Royal family

What are your views on the Royal family, do you think we need a king or queen as head of state, would you abolish the monarchy? If so how would you replace it?

I don't remotely care about them, my Grandfather (@GrannyPie's father) was a royalist but I do not care myself.

When people are celebrating the queens third birthday, I treat it like a normal day. As I do when people are piping on about royal births, what the queen worn going out and all that baloney.

Each to their own mind.

I respect other views on this, but I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I would abolish asap. Tax payers money should be used to help the tax payer. Especially when the recent round of cuts effects so many hard working people.

Tradition and the tourist excuse just doesn't do it for me. Get rid of the family and make Buck house a chargable walk around and make some cash!

Then again when I read about 17billion to refurbish Houses of P as well I go crazy. Move them around some of the wonderful cities of this countryt and let them sit in one place for a set period.

Either that or just rebuild somewhere central, Like Notts!, and stay there. Do not waste billions on the falling down buildings. And while they are at it get rid of all the rubbish that goes with it traditionally as well, including the pantomime jeering and processions etc...

Modernise the country by modernise the parliament!

And similarly it should come as no surprise to hear that I also am a Royalist... still plenty of room in Australia's interior for the rest of you he he he

@hissingdwarf and @PTID1862 are like chalk and cheese complete opposites

My mum was a royalist she used to love watching the Queens speech on Christmas Day, we all had to be quiet.

I haven't inherited her loyalty to the crown I think they are a waste of money, there's no wonder they all seem to live well into their 90s they lead a cosseted life and want for nothing while having the best healthcare money can buy, whilst most ordinary pensioners struggle from day to day with a meagre pension and increasing health problems that an over stretched health service can't cope with in spite of their best efforts.

If thats an offer to pay my airfare for me and the kids (might leave the wife behind though as I've always thought both Minogue sisters were quite nice!) pay for accomodation, and all associated costs, then I take up up on it kind Sir!

I'm not overly fussed either way tbh, one thing I will give them, well the office of William & Catherine is they made my daughters day by sending an individually addressed letter complete with a royal seal, which contained a picture of the new parents and their daughter, thanking her for sending a letter to congratulate them on the birth of their daughter. My daughters class wrote a joint letter and they all got an individual response.

Didn't need to do it and very impressed they did.

The Queen's speeches are fantastic, I enjoy listening to them but not at Christmas, only when I need help falling asleep. It does the trick for me! ;)

I am not bothered, I do not mind them but I think we really need ruling by anyone. These days its more a title, so I see no harm in that.

Oh oh oh ohhhhh, everywhere where we go, watching super County putting on a show!

Not really for or against them. I would be interested to see an independent study of how much they actually cost us opposed to how much they generate through tourism etc...

If people want to get excited about some snotty nosed kid whose wardrobe cost more than most people earn in a year, then all power to them, but it's not my gig.

It's the extended royal family that annoys me,the ones who are on the freebies. If they 'work' for the country I don't have a problem but I agree with @liampie that they should be more self sufficient and not be given taxpayers money.
