Newport didn't win their first game of the season until Sep. 26th. Terry Butcher left at the beginning of October and was replaced by John Sheridan. Results didn't improve until Oct. 20th when Newport went to Wycombe and won 2-0. They have gone 7 games unbeaten since then and have progressed to the 3rd round of the FA Cup. That's some turnaround.

Newport are 21st in the table. They have 19 points from 20 games (6 points behind Notts). They have scored 21 goals (6 less than Notts) and conceded 29 goals (1 less than Notts). Newport's main threat is Scott Boden. He is top scorer with 6 goals, 4 in the league. He scored the winner at Barnet in the FA Cup on Saturday. Lenell John-Lewis is one to keep an eye on. He has 5 goals but it's his speed that causes teams problems. Mark Byrne is their main man in midfield. He's a quality player at this level. Newport will have to make one change for this game. Scot Bennett is on loan from us and he will be a loss for them as he has been playing regularly and playing well.

Newport play a 4-4-2 formation. They like to get the ball out wide and get crosses into the box. They also have plenty of pace to go through the middle. They are a completely different side since John Sheridan took the reigns.

This is a game Notts must win. Anything less than a win and I think RM will be on his way out. I don't think this will be as easy as some fans think. Newport are dangerous and playing with confidence. They are above us in the form table so we shouldn't take them lightly. I think it will be a Notts win but a hard fought one. Notts coming back from 1-0 down to win 2-1.

Newport 3 us 1 if they have pace in the middle we are doomed smith has no pace Stanley is class but not much pace Audel will get shredded up on the wing .

And I think they will jus win new manager firing on all cylinders and I think it's bye for Ricardo just shows how bad it is 6 points off Newport kind of embrassing.

Newport are very much the underdogs this season, what with them spending less and I see they have done enough to push a way from the relegation pack.

Yet 7 points may not be enough and although I expect people to assume we'll win (or lose due to our away form) depending on their opinions - I do think this will be something in the back of the minds of their players and could potentially make the game difficult. They have not be setting League Two alight, though neither have we with our consistency but I do feel that our home form is enough to seal the points.

I want to see Notts start the game like we did against Gillingham, if we can score two goals before half time, that will give us confidence.

We need the points to push onwards now. COYP!

I think this will be a narrow win, 1-0 or 2-1, hopefully it will be an enjoyable game.

i think we have more than enough to go home happy, i think it will be one of the better performances from notts. 2-0

Posted

Home form should see Notts through this, if we can keep heckles from the crowd to a minimum.

I am far more confident about games at meadow lane this season than I am about us being on the road, how times have changed.

Get Murray up front, McLeod or whoever to be the physical forward and we should be fine. 2-0 Notts

Posted

if McLeod plays up top with Murray every ball has to be measured and on the floor McLeod is not aerial or much physical he is a taller version of Murray.

Play the ball thro the gaps to him he will get on the end of it an cause issues hoof it to him hel get frustrated McLeod is a Murray type he plays off the big man and gets behind.

Perfect player for Spencer of stead Murray and McLeod would cause problems if played to there game

Well, Murray is no target player and McLeod does okay at times holding the ball up (with pressure) but I'd never refer to him as a target man myself. It's not what I would say Spencer does like no one else, despite his injury taking a little of that match sharpness from him.

I have to admit, I would rather see Murray up top.

We have enough wingers and forward attacking midfielders, what we lack is someone to change the game from attacking play within a strikers position.

We cant afford to keep letting teams like this, beat us.

With the recent break it gives the players a chance to go into the game fully prepared. Notts cannot let them get the better of them! We must get the points that are on offer.

I'm happy with any win tbh, we need to get back on track. It seems to go like this every christmas though.

I can't believe that were treating Newport like a cup final that's how bad it's actually getting.

Im gonna be honest and straight talking Newport are rubbish in all fairness no disrepctf there a team with zero money full of kids we should be hammering these teams.

It just shows you how bad we are under achieveing when you open you're eyes we haven't been no higher then 10th all year.

im not saying we should be top but we shouldn't be struggling to beat rubbish teams which lets be honest there are lots of them in this league rubbish teams over achieveing massively examples Accrington Wimbledon are up there Mansfield ain't anything special.

We have spent and spent and are worse off by miles sorry to be realistic we aren't going anywhere under this set up or system sometimes you just have to honest and admit it .

Thats my view only that's how I see it

Newport have something we don't have, an experienced manager at this level. A manager who gets the best out of what's available to him and it's working. We have an array of talent but haven't been getting the best out of them. RM has to take responsibility for that. I'd swop RM for John Sheridan in a heart beat.

I'm not sure that I would swop John for Ricardo myself, I think John goes missing above League Two and if anyone is going to take the hot seat at Notts - I would hope that they could take the reigns for a few years and not whilst in League Two.

I also feel Ricardo and his men will have prepared for this, it has a lot riding on it and several fans who have interacted believe it could be his last game if things don't go to plan. Nobody will know for sure, yet I think this will be in the mind of the players - who need to give much more in games because we can play very well. That is what I want to see against Newport, I want us to look at how weak they are with defending and the amount of time that could be given if we attacked them correctly.

I've been saying for the last month moniz should of have gone but you look at the squads Newport should be the ones happy with a point .

In this league we should be one of the top contenders not the bottom 7

Posted

We have the better players no doubt, it is down to how they perform and how moniz sets them up to play.

I think we should win being at home. I am driving up on friday, it may be the last game for me until the new year. 2-0 is my prediction!

Posted

We should beat them but knowing us we wont, they are much like mansfield and we all know how that turned out.

Posted

I will be setting off shortly, fairly optimistic but a level of nerves are kicking in. I'm concerned what could happy if we don't make the game comfortable for ourselves, hopefully if we get chances - we can take them. COYP!

At 2-0 down, I started guzzling the coffee liquor.....it worked as I am obviously now seeing things......lying sideways looking at the screen, it says 2-2......I will keep drinking!

Posted

Now I know I'm p***ed......the score looks like 4-3 to us.......hahaha......off for another bottle of this stuff!!

Typical RM performance, rubbish at the back, electrifying going forward. Having to score 4 to beat Newport doesn't inspire one with confidence. Defend like that against Wycombe and we will be battered. We know we are Clark Kent away from home.

Whatever you think about the match you've got to say it was entertaining.

2-0 down after 10 minutes and the booing started, the defence were clueless then came a stroke of luck as their goalie made a mistake and gifted us a goal via Noble, from then on we were a different team full of fight and passion. Hit the bar twice and went in 2-2 at half time. Second half we went ahead 3-2 thanks to McLeod with his 2nd.

When they pulled it back to 3-3 I thought we'd blown it but Nobles goal in 6 mins of injury time was fantastic, I thought we deserved to win after that fantastic fight back.

Negatives the defence looked very shaky to say the least especially from set pieces Sprockel had a nightmare game and was rightly subbed, we looked better when Milsom came on but we missed Steady Eddie.

Positives we looked like we could score at every attack, McLeod got two goals to silence his critics eh @magpiejue? Noble moved on to 8 goals with his brace, not bad for a midfielder and best of all they showed guts and fighting spirit and turned the boos into cheers.

i nearly didn't go to the match because of the weather I am so glad I did, top class entertainment.

congratulations to the team and IZALE the bloke has took stick every game lately but clearly when we played to his strenghs today he looked very dangerous .

those 2 goals will do him the world of good and Noble two but everyone played well shakes defence both ends.

Hopefully now people stop saying oh yea he's crap we don't have a striker blah blah he proved today you play to him hel bang you goals but I'm just happy overall and goin to enjoy my night 🍻 have a good weekend everyone 👍🏻

Firstly why can't people who attend games stop acting like petulant teenagers and actually back the players through the difficult periods of games?? Moaning has never and will never help and encourage anyone.

Newport came out the blokes really well helped by our midfield not really being in existence until Noble scored, Izale played really well once Stead worked closer to him, in-fact he seemed to come alive once he knew he had more support, lets hope he gets this support in further games. Stead was excellent, Alan Sheehan was MoM for me, kept the very talented McBurney in his pocket the entire game, Milsom looked very good, just a pity that Noble only ever looks to his right when he gets the ball as Milsom and Izale made some brilliant runs that weren't picked out, reckon Milsom / Aborah would have.

Audel & Sprockel are absolute crap, they have the positional sense of hedgehog in the middle of a road, all of our problems are caused by their lack of positional sense, Hewitt was excellent today, he's gonna go onto big things, we have to throw gold & diamonds at Sheehan to make him stay, Thompson looked very good as always, Burke is a waste on the wing, he has no pace but he does have excellent close control and came alive when he drifted more central. We are not very far away from a team that will sweep opponents aside at will, we just need to stop playing the league 2 game and play our game as we blew them away when we did. IMO we need to play McKenzie at centre half alongside Sheehan and play Milsom at left back if he can't get into the middle of the pitch
