Goalkeeper Situation?

I can't help but think we still need a goalkeeper maybe on loan in January. Don't get me wrong Fitz is becoming a good keeper, good shot stopping ability and handling. Kicking and distribution does let him down from time though. Is it worth looking at bringing in a loan keeper in January for 6 months. A keeper who has plenty of ability and experience.

The logical choice would be from across the river. Both Jordan Smith and Stephen Henderson recently completed emergency loan deals to Barnsley and Wycombe. They both kept clean sheets which to say they only spent a week with the team is good going.

Jordan Smith's game: Accrington 0 - 2 Barnsley

Stephen Henderson's game: Wycombe 1 - 0 Barnsley

I personally think that we should be looking to bring in one of these guys in on loan as we need the experience and assurance that we have a fighting chance at the back. I can't help but think sometimes that Fitz struggles to deal with certain shots and is still lacking the experience.

What do you think? Would you be against signing a keeper or for it? Does Fitz need some more experience to become No. 1 next year? We haven't got competition in the GK spot as Pindroch isn't good enough. We need clean sheets and Fitz is struggling to keep them. While the defence is the majority to blame for this Fitz still has a big part to play and has been the goalkeeper since the opening day of the season. So his partly to blame for our current situation.

The goalkeeping position is one of the main reasons we are at the bottom of the league, as our goals against column shows. There’s no denying that Ross does his best but there is much more to keeping goal than shot stopping. The command of the area is paramount. A keeper that comes to claim a cross relieves pressure on the defence and reduces the risk of the ball falling to an attacking player. Distribution is as important as anything and sadly Ross’ contribution leaves much to be desired.

I also believe that the coaching of the keepers is substandard. Because Crossley was a decent keeper doesn’t mean he can coach !!!

I don’t think we have a goalkeeping issue any longer .. Ross is making good saves and has improved since the start of the season. The defence for me isn’t making Ross’s life any easier we get the defence sorted I think it will improve more. We could do with a steady number two to keep Ross on his toes and just incase he gets injured.

Ross has been motm on a few occasions. The goals have mostly been gifted from midfield players sitting back and allowing the opposition to cut like knives through warm butter.

When they play to their strengths, it’s with purpose and confidence. But lacking a strong leader and organiser, they can’t keep it up for 90 mins. Either viagra or a Masson clone is neeed desperately.

Mind you, if Ross gets injured, then we are screwed.

Ross is fine as no.1 but needs more competition as Pindroch is not good enough and Culverwell isn't ready yet

Branislav Pindroch is nowhere near good enough.

Max Culverwell needs time, I agree with Declan that Ross Fitzsimons is capable and seems to be in a good place. However, he needs competition. I'm shocked to learn Pindroch is 27-years-old according to Wikipedia. How the hell can anyone describe him as 'one for the future', if he's not peaked or found his confidence now he never will. I thought he was younger than Fitzsimons.

I wonder how many fans realise that a keeper should be good enough to play week in-and-out at this age? A reserve/backup keeper at the age of 30 is embarrassing and he won't be ready then in my opinion.

Spot on. Yes we need a new keeper, but it is the midfield that needs the real work as we have to find a way to stop the twenty plus shots we are facing every week. Law of averages dictates that a couple of those are going to go in, so we have to beef up the midfield and full back positions to become more solid.

two good keepers at this level seems a luxury but i do feel ross could learn more from a keeper who is still regularly playing.

Maybe so, if we take on board how he was playing at the start of this season, we would definetly need another goalkeeper. Now hes doing much better we can hold out hope that hes going to good enough for now but i do still think we need another to get us back on track properly.
