With the Premier League announcing the introduction of a Hall of Fame and the first two inductees to be announced in March, who do you want to see included?

It's got to be Shearer and Giggs or Fergie and Wenger for me.

Alan Shearer and Ryan Giggs would be up there, Tony Adams and Andy Cole to name to other players.

Posted

Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp should be inducted sooner rather than later.

These would be players I'd list,

David Seaman, Tony Adams, Ian Wright, Robbie Folwer, Teddy Sheringham, Les Ferdinand, Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, Dennis Bergkamp, Paul Scholes, Steve Bruce, Ian Walker etc.

I'll keep an eye on who gets voted in.

Any of the top scorers should be considered, no better manager than Alex Furguson. Maybe Bobby Robson?

Posted

I have zero interest in the Premier League now, but I think the honors should go first to those who have succeeded in the history of the league.

@allardyces tash Adams and Cole definitely up there

@Joshua without doubt they need to be

@Chris finally a goalkeeper in the mix and Bruce who is so underrated

Don't watch much Premier league football these days, but.....

Listing in pairs.

First two should be Ferguson and Shearer. Most successful manager followed by the all time leading scorer.

Managers: Wenger, Mourhino.

Keepers: Schmeichel and Seaman

Defenders: Adams & Ferdinand

Midfield: Difficult as first one should be Giggs, but then a toss up between Scoles, Lampard and Gerrard.

Up front after Shearer: Henry, Ronaldo (Would really like to put Cantona in but a little bit too controversial a selection)

@Fozzy they're based on Premier League credentials I'm not so sure Ronaldo will get in when he retires tbf he was OK in the PL but only became a star outside the PL. Its hard to disagree with the rest of your picks though tbf.

dennis wise is underrated, he made a poor chelsea a much better side and peter beardsley.

@liampie absolutely 100% agree

hate to say it but stuart pearce. also gazza.

Stanley Matthews, Tommy Lawton, George Best... or do you mean the Premier League founded in 1992 due to the greed of a few chairmen? I don't like "records" that only go back to 1992, it smacks of a rewriting of history. And English football has such a rich history that doesn't deserve to be disregarded because Sky hadn't yet turned up.

Balint Bajner.

Steve McManaman, David Beckham, David Bentley and Kevin Nolan would be four midfielders who did a lot of the league.

@liampie not so sure they didn't really impact the premier League much tbf

pearce was the backbone of forest for many years, i hate to say it but he made forest partly who they were in the premier league. not an easy thing to do considering he was a left back, if he did not impact the premier league i dont think he would have been called up to represent england.

gazza did well for newcastle and spurs, iconic player.

I think KB is talking about the post-1992 Premier League. Pearce stuck around for a bit, but I don't think Gazza played for Newcastle or Spurs in the PL (I think he got injured and left Spurs for Lazio just before it started). He played for Everton (and Middlesbrough?) a few years later, but he was past his best by then.

93-97

94 - 4th
95 - 9th

newcastle

97 - 13th
98 - 13th (both season he helped newcastle get in to europe)

west ham

99 - 9th

aside from lee dixon, hes one of the best left backs that has featured in the premier league but defenders get over looked unless they played for one of the big 5 teams.

I watched an interview awhile ago where Sir Alex said Stuart Pearce was the best left back in the Premier League until the early 00's, supposedly he tried to sign Pearce after Forest ended up relegated and the contract would be snubbed. Supposedly, Sir Alex believed he felt that Pearce just didn't want to join a side like Manchester United.

I used to think he was overrated but looking back - I don't think he was. He was good at defending, taking free kicks, running with the ball, leading a team as the captain....

The passion he show on the pitch was at a crazy level, not many could beat that.

I think if fans voted, he would certainly end up being named.

@liampie fair points tbf, I just always believed he was better pre premier League tbf. may be worth a mention then.

Wasn't Lee Dixon a right back though?

Posted

@KB1862 Correct, Lee Dixon played right back.

Nigel Winterburn played as left back before Ashley Cole broke into the first-team at Arsenal.
