  7. you learn something new every day, i never heard about the backstory of it and its a great read. i wonder if johnny bostock can count himself lucky that cedwyn scott scored in the playoff final? otherwise some notts fans might have took his miss out of him more than what happened.

  9. i wished it would have been something i experienced during my years of supporting notts, we were pretty average and woeful until munto came along and the fake money lifted us. so thankful for the years we have had now under the reedtz but the 90s is a special time.

  10. Another lovely morning here. Not a cloud in the sky. Both of us put in the garden early weeding & tidying things up. Now taking a rest & going online for a while. Switched off the gas fire for the first time in months. Looks like it is going to be a relative scorcher today.

  11. I think it’s a bad sign when the manager, or assistant manager in this case, starts to criticise the players publicly, it doesn’t actual sound if there’s much togetherness when that happens, I don’t mind them being honest and saying it was an awful performance but I’d rather hear them say “we are in this together, we all take responsibility and together we’ll work hard to put it right”, or words to that effect. If the manager throws the players under the bus they aren’t going to want to play for him, they are in danger of losing the dressing room in my opinion.

  16. Do you think that if Notts were promoted this season, the club could improve enough to remain in League One? It’s a much tougher league, with teams that have far more quality. My concern is that most supporters may not be patient enough to see Notts rebuild and take the time needed to strengthen. With the performances we’re seeing now, I wonder if we should focus more on addressing the team’s form to better support our promotion hopes. I might be in the minority here, but while I hope for promotion, I also realise it would take a lot of work, and Notts might not be ready for it yet. I would prefer for the club to be well-prepared and capable of staying up. The current poor form might even reflect some doubts within the team itself.

  17. @Fan of Big Tone has his holidays, @Piethagoram appears to enjoy nature and visiting places where he can get to grips with nature. i enjoy going for bike rides when the weather is nice, i also enjoy regular walks but not so much when its cold. aside from work and football, i dont do a lot and i am stuck in a very routine way of life. its a good thing, as i dont like making changes if i can because its harder with being autistic. i do think its good to explore other things though, so i wonder if the community feel like sharing what they do outside of football?

  19. It's an interesting discussion. I’d like to believe that Notts are capable of staying in League One, but some effort would definitely be needed. The club would have to ensure that the squad can deliver goals across the whole team, especially in midfield and attack. If the club can work their magic like they did at the start of the season, I’d back them to get it right. However, we need to be cautious about injuries and perhaps avoid bringing in players with a history of them. As for the fans, most would likely understand what’s required and recognise that the club is trying to move forward. We've been fortunate in recent years, but if we want to see Championship football again one day, we need to support the club as it progresses, rather than holding it back.

  20. Where is the motivation to get the best out of Junior Morias? While he’s a professional, his morale must have taken a hit after being recalled and realising he hasn’t been given much of a chance before. What will change now? I feel this season should have been the deciding factor on whether Morias can step up, and I truly believe he’s been mismanaged. It’s disappointing to see a footballer treated so poorly by the club I support. If the club didn’t think he was good enough, they should have worked harder to move him on, rather than relying on him in desperation. This does little for his morale, confidence, or career while tied to Notts. We can only hope he gets a proper chance now and wish him well if he does.

  22. i agree, dont use var for penalties and make sure the ref watches the player striking the ball and the assistant watches the keeper. i dont believe the penalty should have been disallowed because it was all in one movement and even watching back, you cant tell which foot strikes the ball first but with it being in one instant motion i think that is a enough to apply common sense.

  25. how am i only just learning about this, the comments are funny but at least hes speaking some sense. i do think hes speaking more out of frustration which is making him a little too honest. its not the response you want trying to secure a league one place. mansfield fans will like it, but he is blaming the players and taking no accountability for his or nigel cloughs actions.

  28. I agree with @liampie that the majority of the current crop of players are generally good enough for league one. I do believe however, that the squad needs strengthening to ensure that those players on the bench are capable of maintaining the strength of the team if they need to come on. At the moment, I don't think that is the case. I also believe that Notts need to ensure that the players they bring in don't have a history of injuries that could cause Notts problems during the season. Then we have to factor in the possibly that some of our best players could be sold off. Jatta is one that could be sold & Bedeau has impressed too witch may interest other clubs. I don't expect Notts to challenge for promotion if they do get promoted. The owners have basically said that they won't rush things, so it may be a season of consolidation.

  29. i think we have a good squad regardless of where the budget puts us. there are players who would need time, and others that would easily make the step up. as a team notts would need to be stronger as a group. i feel there could be improvements made, if we could score more goals from open play and without relying on being as direct as we are right now. then that would help. most people would be patient enough i think, but it would be a challenge. my concerns about promotion is if we start off like mansfield did and be up within the promotion area, only to drop off and the doom and gloom mongers start to be more vocal when really it would be an overachievement. mansfield start this season is a vital sign as to how important early form is and how teams newly promoted can struggle in spells. i can see us being similar if we were to get promoted.

  30. I hope Junior Morias gets a chance this time. He has a lot of pace and brings qualities that Notts are missing at the moment. He could fit into the squad in so many ways. His natural finishing ability would be a huge benefit if Notts could create chances that aren't just tap-ins or attempts to walk the ball into the net. Few players seem confident in taking shots from distance. I feel he deserves an opportunity, as he is one of the players who has been treated unfairly.

  31. Plenty of sun this morning but has gone cloudy this afternoon. Spent a couple of hours in the garden with the wife wedding, cutting the lawn edges & a general tidy up. Remove some more moss from the lawn. Using the scraper is giving me plenty of exercise. I suppose I'll suffer for it tomorrow morning being stiff as a board.

  32. I did not see that one coming. We have often heard that players won't be signed just to make up the numbers, but that appears to be exactly what has happened with Junior. Not really fancied by any manager he played under since arriving. Strikers are generally confidence players and need a run in the team to get going but I can't see him getting it, at best a few appearances from the bench waiting for Jatta to return and Traore to get fit. On Traore, he was thrown in sooner than normal after arriving so hopefully just needs time. And it seems they are not sure what to do with Jarvis. Talented lad, again hopefully with some game time we'll see a bit more from him.

  33. i am a little annoyed by it, why do we keep recalling him and never giving junior morias a proper chance. i almost expect him to be sent out on loan in a few days time, just as we start to think he has a chance. imagine being morias with how notts have prevented him from playing, and basically signed a player to not actually play much at all. i really do hope he gets a chance. its very odd behaviour by notts.

  34. This is a surprise. I always wanted Junior to be given a chance, but it didn't seem that he was in Stuart's long term plans. Jatta will be on international duty soon, so this move must be to cover for him while he's away, & to give Notts more options other than Didzy & Traoré. I'm hoping that Junior does get an opportunity because just sitting on the bench is not what he wants I'm sure. I must say I'm a little concerned about Traore's fitness, & it doesn't seem as though Notts feel that Will Jarvis can do a job in the centre forward position.

  35. I'd say we were passing the ball about at a quicker intensity in the first half, than in any of the last few games combined. Yet again though, we missed chances and that brings up problem number 1 (Ruthlessness). Too many times we don't take our chances, which I have said before is a team problem. Port Vale (A), Newport (H), Fleetwood (A) and Gillingham (H). All games we failed to take our chances in. Even in games we won, we missed chances to increase the winning margin which include Accrington (H), Harrogate (H) and Carlisle (H). Whilst those 3 ended up in victories, it still shows our lack of ruthlessness in front of goal. The latter of the three was a particular poor performance. In the 2nd half, we allowed them more territory and more possession. During this we had everyone bar Jatta behind the ball and we were only just past the hour mark. Both goals come from us dropping so deep and giving them all the time in the world to pass the ball around. Nobody is closing them down, pressing them. That brings me to my 2nd problem (Mentality). We're too happy with mediocrity. After we equalised, we should have the momentum and energy to go again and get the winning goal in front of the Kop against our local rivals, but no not us. Instead, we retreat and are happy to settle for the point. We literally retreat to how we were before they opened the scoring. Where is the want and the will to go for it? Where is the fire in us? The performance was alright apparently and guess what? We lost, again. It's ok though because we've got injuries. If you are having to rely on Didzy, who is 37, to try and inspire some fire inside of you to win in a promotion battle and fight for this football club, you are in trouble and you need to take a look at yourself. Didzy and Jodi barely a combined 15 minutes at Cheltenham, in what was arguably our best away performance of the season. Injuries also don't stop you doing basic things like running with the ball into space, pressing and playing 5 yard passes to a teammate. This basically sums up point number 3 (Urgency). There was a bit more of it yesterday (in which we still lost) but that does not excuse the lack of it throughout the season. The last thing is intensity. The lack of it throughout the season, which has lead to our consistent unconvincing performances.

  36. Simple solution. Don't use VAR for penalty shootouts except for goal line technology. I'm surprised they don't use VAR slow motion to see if the goalie moved before the kick was taken, or the goalie was off his lineas the kick was taken. I still feel that VAR is ruining the game & should only be used for goal line decisions.

  37. Mansfield's situation is surely a lesson for Notts if they manage to win promotion. Notts will need to ensure that they have the players that can step up another level & if not, be prepared to go into the transfer market, to ensure they do not struggle as Mansfield have done.

  39. He's not a happy chappy is he? Credit to him for telling it how he sees it. Nonetheless, it's a bad sign when the assistant manager gets wheeled out to do interviews. 15 matches without a win is shocking, but I think the points gathered early in the season will help get them over the line. They're still eight points clear.

  40. Tell us how you really feel Andy! Wow, they only lost 2-0 but you'd have thought it was 8-0! That's 15 matches without a win for Mansfield… They’ve had a couple of draws but most of the results have been losses. They’ve got a tough run in too but I think they’ll be just about safe come the end of the season due to the bottom four having too much to do. To be fair to them, League 1 is really strong at the moment. Bottom 4 aside their aren't really any 'dud' teams...
