As it says really.

I'm not Scottish so have no pre-formed opinion here.

On face value I hope they do leave the UK. It will make Whitehall sit up and take note!

Although I believe they should remain a part of the UK,if it's what they want let them separate and look after themselves.Just don't expect any help from us.

I don't really care if they do or don't, yet I find the reasoning behind it pretty lame.

The majority of Scottish people don't want this (if media is to be believed) but I know quite a few who are and they're against it. Secondly they suffer from massive unemployment up their and we actually help them with this fall out, so if they go independent - In my opinion they should do so by standing on their own two feet. Why do they want the advantages which come with being 'British' or a part of the 'United Kingdom' and yet they don't want their own currency???

Also, it would be like baling out your children with 'em. If they go indiependent we shouldn't let them have any money from our system, they should balance their own books with their own income.

So, I say if they do - No.

I think it would be a real shame to break up the United Kingdom.

I reckon we should have our own referendom on weather we want to keep the Scots or not ;)

Guarentee the night before, BBC Scotland at 9pm, absolute certainty they'll be showing braveheart. Reckon they should also show Train Spotting, just to even it out lol.

It's a weird one. I'm not particularly politically rounded but I do find it odd how they dont know if they want to be part of the UK anymore, yet half of them seem to come and live in England and spend the whole time telling us how nice Scotland is!

Think it needs to be made crystal clear to them, if they wish to be independent thats just what they'll be, they can't have the best of both worlds. If they leave the UK - no pound currency, no NHS etc. If they wanna leave they sort themselves out, don't see why we should do it for them. I just hope they remember that a few hundred years ago, if it hadn't have been for us, Scotland would have fallen into total poverty and probably worse, when it was virtually bankrupt.

they deserve to be classed as their own nation a way from the uk, i find it sad but its their right. yet i also dont think that they should take the benefits of being within the uk, if they are not apart of it.

I agree if the majority vote for it then that is their right, I just hope they don't vote for it because that would be a real shame, however if they do I also agree with others that they should go their own way completely i.e. no NHS, no pound etc.

Norway was once part of Sweden. When it became independent, people said it wouldn't survive. Look at them now. Scotland has oil and fishing, just like Norway. I reckon they would do fine on their own. If the UK says they cannot use the Pound, then Scotland should withdraw their agreement to pay their part of the UK National Debt. Scotland wants to be part of the EU and the only way to guarantee this is independence as the UK will vote to leave the EU after the next election.

I would prefer if the UK remained as it is and shared the benefits or otherwise but it's up to majority of Scots .If they vote for independence then that is what it should be and  no assistance from the remaining UK.

Alex Salmond is just David Cameron in a kilt, he doesn't & won't give care what happens outside Edinburgh, just like Cameron doesn't care what happens outside  central London. All of the mp's that are claiming all sorts are only worried as their exclusive club might be broken up.

Scotland has the ability to become a very successful & cash rich country in it's own right but like our own it never will be whilst some posh little toff who only cares about what he can get out of it for him & his family & mates is in charge.

If they go good, but they should be gone for good without any help or assistance. If they get rid of that knob Salmond then I can see them becoming a very attractive place to live as our country slips further into self destruction as we let those in charge fleece the country for all it's worth before they depart for a cushty life in america.

I hope the majority vote signals a yes to independence. If it does separate then it's more likely in the future that N Ireland can progress towards a united Ireland.

As an aside RIP Paisley. Couldn't stand the man. Couldn't stand his politics. Respected the way he eventually began to see Peace was and is possible with The Emerald Isle working together, rather than firebrand rhetoric.

It would be a shame to break up the current united kingdom, but if they decide to thats upto them. The main thing that affects us if they do is the importing and businesses that currently operate between the two. Alot of schools also visit scotland with groups of older children and i don't think that would be cost effective if they separate.

Really its only them that decide and none of us in england, wales or ireland can decide. I don't even think most of scotland know what is best for them.

I have a feeling that the YES side are going to win. They have the momentum and a lot of the don't knows seem to be going over to the YES side. If they do vote YES, it will send shock waves across the world. It might make the politicians who have failed the people think again about their doomed policies.

I. Also have a funny feeling that it's going to go to the Yes vote.

I can't even imagine the ramifications around the world.

England, and Westminster are now scrambling to make sure the no votes gets through. Reason: Oil and Gas.

Perhaps this is a wake up call, as previously mentioned. Well, let's hope so anyway

I got really bored of this when it was on.

Scottish people with sword rattling nationalism - nothing could be more of a yawn-fest. Several people were deleted from my Facebook for contributing their mind-numbingly uninteresting opinions on this subject.

News flash: Noone in the UK is happy with Westminster. Leaving the UK and joining the EU, with result in the same thing, being run by Brussels.

I was glad they voted No for one reason only, so that this saga would not drag on for another 2 years.

Scotland will not give this one up if they want independence so badly, I also got tired of this.

Personally I think we should get rid of them now, including the Scottish MP's we have down here. None of them are of much use and just for the sake of it, they can have David Cameron.

Hi everyone. Not been here for a while, so hope all is well with you  :)

Both my parents were Scottish, though my dad was in the RAF, so us kids were born all over the world. I was not entitled to vote but if I had been, I'd have wanted to vote to remain part of the union. I've just come back from Scotland, having taken my parents ashes to be scatttered. I feel just at home there as I do here and feel I have the right to be in both places. I would not want that to alter.

Why the hostility?

Posted

Why the hostility anywhere? Why can't we all just get along together, whether it's minorities within a nation, religious beliefs,neighbours,families-even rival football fans?Answers please on a postcard to the United Nations.

Scottish Independence wouldn't alter your right to be in both places. Given that Westminister looks like it will break its promise of more powers for Scotland, we could be seeing another referendum sooner than we ever expected. Scotland won't be fooled again. I reckon Scotland will become Independent in my life time.

All the Scots I know were against it, all are friendly but just like any walks of life some aren't.

English and Scottish people will always have rivalry.

It should just be respectful.

I know people on both sides of the vote...

I am pleased with how things have turned out, but agree that Westminster will more than likely renege on promises...

Think we could well have another vote in 10 to 15 anyway...

Long live the Union ;)
