Tragic news from the club today that our former manager has lost his fight with cancer. My thoughts are with his family and everyone who knew him.

Rest in peace, Steve Thompson. May you sleep peacefully, and may your memory live on through the clubs you played for and the fans who remember you.

Oh oh oh ohhhhh, everywhere where we go, watching super County putting on a show!

A sad day for our Club & Football
Condolences to his family, friends & those who knew him.
RIP Steve Thompson.

Proud to be a supporter for 58 years & counting of the oldest professional football club in the World. COYP

Such a sad thing to hear. Steve Thompson was a proper football man, straight-talking and honest in how he shared his views. He was a very good player too. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Rest in peace, Steve Thompson.

Rest in Peace, Steve Thompson.

He was in charge back when I was a child, and I don't remember much about him. It doesn't change how sad it is to learn about his passing, and I wish I knew more about his time in charge of Notts. I am sure his legacy will live on, and I am thankful for his contributions to our club's history.

A field where dreams become reality.

Very sad news - gone too soon.

He was a great character and his post match interviews were often very amusing. His wit and personality were highlighted every time he featured in the media.

A loss to the NCFC fraternity but a greater one to his family and those who knew him.

RIP Thommo.

He was definitely a big personality and highly driven. When he arrived in 2006 (to the dismay of many having been part of Colin Murphy's regime a few years before) he brought with him a list of mainly Lincolnshire-based players he wanted to sign. He might even have presented it at his interview. Bearing in mind this was only a couple of weeks before pre-season training was set to begin and we barely had any players. A flurry of transfer activity followed. That team probably cost buttons, but what it lacked in quality it made up for in spirit and he achieved our highest finish between relegation to L2 and the Munto takeover.

It’s really sad to hear that Steve Thompson has passed away after battling cancer. He was a kind and thoughtful man, and his love for football always came through in the way he spoke.

Anyone who got the chance to chat with him will know how much he cared about Notts County and Lincoln City. He had a great sense of humour and shared his stories with real warmth. He had a sharp football brain and always made his views interesting to listen to. You could tell he’d seen a lot and enjoyed every moment of it.

Rest in peace, Thommo. You’ll be missed by many.

Thommo knew the game. He didn’t get the success he wanted as a coach, but he earned respect. He gave everything to the job. It’s a real loss to football and to those who knew him.

Rest in peace, Steve Thompson.

I played cricket against Steve a few times back in the day whilst he played for Collingham, always insightful and still had the insider knowledge on the happenings at Notts (before his return). A good bloke who will be sadly missed.

As a side note for anyone that doesn’t know, he used to play for the same cricket club as (then starting out) referee David Coote.
