Friendlies

I know, not many people are interested in friendly games but it's a good chance to access the playing squad assembled. I also acknowledge the results are meaningless, as we can play poorly pre-season but ever so well in the league and visa versa we can do well but struggle to scrape together results within the league.

Personally I am excited about what could be announced.

What type of friendlies do you hope are announced?

Hopefully we are very selective about which Non League teams we decide to help out this year, I would certainly avoid Arnold Town personally.

I hope we go for League Teams, try to pull local teams like Forest, Villa, Wolves etc down to the lane.

Teams of similar standard to ourselves, so we can properly access our squad. So any League Two promotion contenders and poor League One teams will do me.

Hopefully a few crowd pullers at the lane for the fans who enjoy them, but in all honestly I fall into the 'not bothered' category for them, like a lot of other fans. No real meaning, results are pointless. For me the trips abroad are more meaningful for the squad so that team building skills are put into place, but I know finances often say no!

Not Arnold Town, play bigger clubs to fully commit and test ourselves.

Not remotely interested, as I don't attend them any way. I will make regular match days where the results matter.

If we got big teams down people would care, no one would reject watching any of the elite big boys but never seem to pull those types off.

Any, I will be there! its a good day out watching county, win, draw or lose. it will be good to catch up with people at the games again.

Midlands based teams would be nice.

A tour of somewhere like France would be nice, get some coaches on and get the fans on board.

So, the first friendly is against Port Vale and it will be played at Vale Park on Tuesday July 21 as part of their pre-season programme.

What do you think about this folks?

I think the clubs has better things to spend its money on to be fair. A good mix of local-ish teams fits the bill quite nicely. If you stick to non-leaguers it's hard to know whether any trialists are actually up to the task of League football, if you have too many big names you risk demoralising the team. Hopefully we'll learn a lot from the Vale and Grimsby games.

Mansfield at home would seem nice, or f*rest, seeing as we like to get some of the local teams in (e.g Derby and Birmingham last pre-season)

Friendlies always look depressing until the season starts, these are not bad.
