Terry Hawkridge to Notts?

It seems Notts are being linked with Lincoln City winger Terry Hawkridge, he's Nottingham born and has enjoyed spells with Carlton Town, Hucknall Town and Mansfield Town before establishing himself with the Imps.

What do you make of this rumour? Do you think Terry would fit in at Notts? Let us know.

He's a good age (27), has pedigree in the non-leagues, knows what it takes to slog it out for promotion (and promotion from the Conference is difficult, no margin for error with just one automatic berth - which Lincoln got) , and he's a Nottingham lad.

For me, he's pretty much the perfect candidate. Snap him up.

He needs to be able to do three things. Run quick, beat a full back and cross a ball (preferably to a Notts player and not the stand). If he can do those, then he will be alright by me!

Notts does require wingers who are able to take on their man, pace isn't everything but when you have someone like @Fozzy describes it's fun to watch. I used to like watching Craig Westcarr take players on, I know fans believed he was lazy but he wasn't overly fast - nor was he slow. He had the right burst of energy and he could put a killer ball into the box. We really need some dead ball specialists, as we do players who can actually just cross the ball well.

I'm a little concerned though that all the rumours seem to be about Non-League players, something I support but we need a squad that has mixed experience.

We can't sign too many players who don't have any league pedigree, though I am certain we can find some gems none the less. If we can keep the squad size down, perhaps the Non-Leagues will allow us to afford players like Jorge Grant? Whilst unearthing some real league assets.

I know being rumoured doesn't mean we will sign all the players, though I do think we need to be wise about the recruitment. I know in the corner of defence people will naturally say they'll want success more but some players are happy to fill back down (those that take for granted that they play) - this happens from league players too mind.

yeates seemed to be decent but never really fit, he could cross and get past players but he was the wrong side of quick. so we would need someone who can take players on with a bit of pace about them.

It's a no from me, we have seen players like him come and they do not adapt well. There's just no sign of any sort of quality, so it would be a risk if we actually paid for him. I assume he isn't available on a free?

I read on Twitter that he's out of contract.

Which makes you wonder why this is the case, if he rejected staying with Lincoln - it could be negative either way that you look at it.

Well reading what others have write my opinion on a possitive front with a little negative but  it sounds  to good to be true great age from Nottingham played in Nottingham earned everything the hard way. If he has the speed down the wing that would help massively also he may have family in Nottingham so the chances are his family are county fans. Good players play well when they are excepted by the fans. Any player right now is a chance but I think it's one worth taking.

Sounds like he might be worth a punt. Not only has he been a key part of Lincoln's team over the last two years, he was also virtually an ever-present in the Scunny team that won promotion to League One in 13/14. Didn't cut it in League One by the looks of things but that's a bridge we'll cross when we come to it

For those of you thinking "Conference players aren't good enough", his CV is actually rather similar to that of Ben Davies, who had also recently won promotion to the League (with Shrewsbury) when he joined us in his late 20s.

Reading what Lincoln fans have to say about him, I'm now not too sure as they don't seem overly bothered about keeping him. They cite that he probably wouldn't be a regular in their team next season,. He has no pace to speak of, which is a massive downer for me as it is the one thing our squad needs, but he does play on the left which has been a weak point for us. 

Would I want a left hand side, with Dickinson and Hawkridge playing down it? No, as neither have any pace. Would I have a left side with a new speedy left back and Hawkridge? That I could live with.

If only we could get Marc Bola or another LB like him, allow Bola to overlap and Hawkridge to do the positional play. If he's clever at reading the game, pace can be forgiven - especially when you can pick out a pass or float a cross in which is destined to created chances @Fozzy.

Fingers crossed we will be linked with more pace and players able to chip in with goals from midfield.

Kevin Nolan did say he wanted to bring players in who would be good enough to start but I am in the same boat, not quite impressed with this.

@Chris Who was that lad from Preston who looked class against Crewe and then useless after that? He was able to cross a ball, but had no pace to beat a man. Pace as a winger isn't everything, but how many that don't have it have that ability to create space to deliver a cross? Very few. I can't see us finding a Dave Smith in him.

In other news, Luke Waterfall has decided to stay with Lincoln after being linked with us. Now he was a player I wouldn't have minded, another late developer who has turned into a solid centre half.

Don't quote me but I think he became injured again and hasn't returned to football since.

It's a shame because I thought he looked decent, not just in his debut but in some of his other appearances. He was one of them that never quite seemed match sharp and struggled to get involved due to inability to pass the ball forward.

There is certain things i hate whoever we sign certain people wont be impressed who are you expecting ronaldo messi who? expectations of some fans 

 

Hes 28 and none of us have seen him kick a ball yet kevin nolan has more knowledge of football then we do.

so il trust his judgement one he actually turned down a contract to stay at lincoln also was rumoured colchester were intrested and oxford on twitter again rumoured so 

 

And if you belive in rumours theres certain people claiming liam sercombe of oxford is linked with us cant see it happening tho as oxford want a fee 

Also we dont have any wingers left an grant looks likely to go wigan or bristol 

Lets not do what we have done before spend big money on players like mcleod

According to Transfermarkt he played for 90 minutes in each of Lincoln's last three games, scoring twice in one of them. I understand the issue with pace, our team is quite one-paced as it is, but Yeates was hardly Usain Bolt either yet most wanted him to stay. This is a player who was recently an ever-present in a team that won promotion out of our division. We have to trust Nolan's judgement on this one and support him if he comes.

He's from Nottingham, he's coming into his prime at 27/28, he's very much on his way up rather than down as he has won 2 promotions (scunny and Lincoln) and Lincoln fans very much like him and want to keep him
