Alan Smith released

No, it didn't surpise me all that much to be honest.

I do hope we have retained him as a coach, I feel he's someone young and experienced players can lookup to and I do think he's a reliable coach with the years of knowledge he's picked up from playing the game at the heightist level.

As a player, he's lost his legs and did what he could but the times right for him to step aside.

I would be more surprised if he didn't retire TBH, surely he knows his time has come and that he should focus on coaching? I know he wants to become a manager one day, so it's time to prepare and learn the staff side of things rather than playing.

A field where dreams become reality.

I am not that bothered if Alan Smith remains as a coach or not, its just good to know he won't be playing as part of the squad next season. I appreciate all hes done but hes been nothing more than a trophy player for Notts.

Good luck to whatever he does in the near future.

Oh oh oh ohhhhh, everywhere where we go, watching super County putting on a show!

The club should confirm if he will be remaining as a coach, I read something awhile back about him being linked with Leeds United but I do think he has the ability to be a good coach.

I am undecided if he has the attributes for much else but his playing days are well behind him.

im not bothered if he returns as a coach tbh.

his scandal with that car dealership was bad press and i think theres better people to have around the club. he has quality in the terms of being an ex player but he just seems a bit overkill for where we are now.

No real loss or surprise, I would have thought his contract expiring would mean he needs a new deal to remain as a coach. We will have to see if any news will be announced on OS until then we can only assume.

"Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value."

At 37 years old it hardly comes as a surprise at all.

He's a good person to have around the dressing room but I feel the wage he probably attracts could be spent better elsewhere. If he signs as a coach this would be good, provided the amount he's paid doesn't come at the cost of signing any players.

No, not really. No surprise at all I thought Alan Smith would be released and I think the club would have announced him as a coach within the released list if this was the plan.

So I don't expect him to remain at Notts.

I thought he would stay on with the way things with Nolan was and he seemed to come on during every game I thought he would. But after the home game against the Coventry the way he left with his head not wanting to speak to anyone I thought it may be on the cards.
