  1. Let's get him moved swiftly on, pat on the back, good luck with your career, thanks for the season and a half. Looking forward to seeing the new manager and his ideas.

  2. I missed the chance to celebrate our promotion with fans, although I did have the pleasure to speak to Luke Williams once. He was very kind. I had done a portrait of him prior to Wembley and had been trying to give him a copy. He was just as he comes across in the press conferences, I didn't have his print, but I showed him what it looked like via my phone. It impressed me how down to earth he was, as I could tell he realised how nervous I felt and the way he spoke to me helped settle that. Funnily enough, I strolled through Messenger and the conversation I had with @Ryan Raynor. He noticed all the player prints I had made and asked about each one, if the players had seen them etc. I actually did my best to scroll through it as fast as I could, as I knew the last image was the portrait I did of him. He told me to go back to the reception in the future and ask for him, however, I never did because that felt too much of a bother. I don't like feeling like I am bothering people, but I felt so proud by his reaction. Hopefully, whoever comes in next will have a similar approach to fans. I really enjoy listening to the way Luke Williams speaks in his interviews; he always came across as detailed and insightful.

  3. It could be, but these are professionals. This is a job for them, no more no less. They may enjoy it more at one club or another, much as the rest of us would enjoy working for one company or another. I suspect the players know the score, and several will have been having conversations themselves (Macca and Cov maybe). So, from their point of view I can't see it will make much difference after a short period of adjustment. How it will affect LW himself is a different matter, and that would depend on why the deal fell through (if it does). If he called it off, then I think it enhances his position - I came, I saw, I prefer what I have. If Swansea call it off then there will be disappointment, if Notts refuse to play ball then there could be resentment. I can't see it falling through at this stage, although I would have expected an announcement by now if things were running smoothly.

  4. The current Manchester United Manager will have a lot more free time soon and would do well at a proper club! Is Agent Trev a decent source @Piethagoram? A lot of rumours sites just regurgitate message board speculation.

  5. Well if the make the decision of the new manager on who looks like Williams they could ask to speak to Pep Guardiola.

  10. Nathan Rooney - Formerly managed Bruno's Magpies in Gibraltar and has worked at Port Vale, Crawley, Blackburn and Fleetwood in coaching roles. Highly thought of in the game and a great up and coming coach Andrew Crofts - Current first team coach at Brighton. Was on Oxford's wishlist before they appointed Des Buckingham. Paddy McCarthy - Current assistant manager at Crystal Palace. Former coach of their under 21's as well. Highly thought of at Palace Stephen Bradley - Current boss of Shamrock Rovers. Won 4 league titles in a row and was close to the Lincoln City job a year or two ago. Harry Watling - Current Rangers first team coach. Used to be at Watford and QPR. He was on Plymouth's shortlist recently

  12. We don't know apart from rumours and hearsay that he's actually had talks. All the rubbish spouted so far has come from Wales online news, nothing announced this end, apart from East Mids Sport Reading the Wales Online story and believing it.

  13. It could be a little awkward if the deal falls through now - then we'll have a head coach who's been discussing terms with another club, demanding loyalty and commitment from his players at Notts. Not sure that's such a great look.
    4 points
  14. Yes @Fozzy We are all waiting probably for the inevitable, but let Notts take their time. Notts must be properly compensated. If Swansea want him, there'll have to pay for him.

  15. I just hope the season doesn’t go downhill from here after Williams goes, I feel most of the players will be gutted and it may affect their game, however they are professionals and have probably seen managers come and go before. A lot hinges on who the new manager will be but the owners got it right last time so let’s hope they do again.

  16. How much does Steve Cooper really love the city of Nottingham, he’d have had a good pay-off after being sacked… Surely that can compensate for the fact we can’t pay him £10k a week… I’m not really that inspired by anyone in the league below in terms of being at the same level as Luke Williams. Stuart Maynard is an interesting shout but the only memory I have of Stuart Maynard’s Wealdstone is how we beat them comfortably, twice. Was that just down to having superior players, surely a well-coached team would’ve done a bit better. I really don’t know, though, it’ll probably be someone I’ve never heard of!

  17. So it's official and we can all move on. As disappointed as I am that Luke Williams has chosen not to build on his fantastic achievements with us over the last season and a half, it is an understandable move for him in some ways. His stock is high and he knows he's only ever a few bad results from the sack, at Swansea certainly but at Notts too. There's no loyalty in football any more, but that's the case in both directions. I'm also impressed at the stiff upper lips Notts fans are largely showing, especially when compared with the velocity with which toys are propelled from the pram when we lose a game. It's a world away from the uproar when Sam Allardyce left under not dissimilar circumstances. He did a wonderful job for us and will forever be remembered as the manager who restored us to the Football League. But maybe it's a blessing in disguise too - maybe a new head coach can bring fresh ideas and new impetus so we can mount a serious and sustained bid for promotion to League One.

  18. Both Slocombe and Stone have disappointed me this season. More so Stone. As a goalkeeper myself, I do understand that when your defence isn't that great and they make mistakes, which there have been quite a few this season, it does hamper a goalkeepers confidence which then results in goalkeepers making mistakes themselves or not doing as well as they perhaps should. Having said that, some of the goals that have been let in are shocking to watch and more time than not it does make you think that they should have done much better than that. I wouldn't mind seeing Tiernan Brooks being given a shot. I've said it for the past couple of seasons now that perhaps it's time he should be given a run and with how poorly both keepers have performed this season, it might be a good opportunity for him.

  19. I wish him all the best! Some fans will be a bit annoyed, but it's not like Ian Burchnall and although Luke Williams is by far the better manager. I think it makes a lot of sense as to why he decided to go to Swansea, I didn't believe it until it was confirmed, but I respect and understand why. There's some anger about him leaving us mid-season, but we are in a good position to find a new manager who can get the results we need to push on. A bit of time to access who to bring in, get onto the recruitment of players and allow the new manager to have the final say once the squad is accessed by him. Luke's left us in a great position, so it's hard to feel annoyed. He, unlike who he replaced, hasn't bad-mouthed us (at least yet) and I don't think he would allow a small minority to do so.

  20. how enjoyable did listening to the manager become under luke williams? kevin nolan, harry kewell, neal ardley, ian burchnall all had their own ways of talking, some of which seemed more about themselves than the club. i really disliked litening to kewell because he came across a bit arrogant and like the problems we faced was our issue not his as the manager. none of this negative stuff can across with williams, he owned his mistakes and he took account of everything. his style if a rare insight into football and i think you could ask him anything related to football, to which he would give a response fans would be happy with. its been a great journey with him, i am saddened to see him leave us.

  21. it feels like its the end of era and one which has been more than a few years. luke williams restored hope within the club, the way he conducts himself and has established himself amongst the players. i respect how he lifted the whole club as its not something easily done. i am disappointed to see him leave, but there is not much notts can do and i understand why he wants to go. its a great opportunity to for him.

  22. A huge thank you to Luke. It has been fantastic to watch Notts play under his leadership. I wish him the very best of luck.

  23. Absolutely we can. We have been on a relatively poor away run, and whilst we are doing well we aren't without issues that have been present for a good while. So, there is an opportunity for new eyes and new ideas to positively impact the team. That plus some new blood and I don't see why we can't make the play offs, and, let's face it, automatic isn't out of the question yet either (albeit much more of a long shot).

  24. Not really @DangerousSausage, he only has 100 odd Twitter followers. Name thrown out there that I never thought about is Mark Bonner, sacked in November by Cambridge Utd. Could be thought of as being slightly unlucky as I’ve always considered them to be punching above their weight for the last few years.

  25. @DangerousSausage @4everapie @Ohh Tommy Johnson I think the silence by our club despite all the speculation & the lack of denial tells us something is coming. I can't remember something like this going in for so long though. There must be intense negotiations going on or some sort of disagreement.

  26. There is obviously been some sticking point, possibly over compensation, or the amount of back room staff he wants / is allowed to bring in. I would seriously doubt it would be terms, maybe the amount of influence he will have on team matters. Looks like it will be morning now before we here confirmation, at least we can then forget about him and start focusing on the future again.
    3 points
  27. Seriously doubt he would leave Chesterfield for us @Robbie, plus he doesn’t really fit with the obscurity of our last two selections. Would be an interesting choice though. I reckon it is more likely to be another youth team / no. 2 appointment and not that old.

  28. I have no idea who it will be, but they normally go a bit left field. If I was to pick someone who like to play football and is ready for the move up, it would be Stuart Maynard.

  29. I'm sure the the Reedtz brothers know who they want. I don't think we'll see any one on the bookies list, or any former Managers of Notts Who ever they choose may well be an upcoming young Coach who wants to play open football, but with a hint of caution too with a plan B if plan A doesn't work. The owners have picked well up to yet and I'm confident they'll do it again.

  31. I think we have a good system, and the Head Coach and players are just cogs in that system. LW will go, probably to Swansea, but if not to one of the next opportunities, Macca will go, Crowley will go etc (eventually, one day - I'm not being a doomster about this window). The thing is our system means we will have replacements ready to slot in with minimum disruption. LW has earned his chance to move to a bigger club and he should absolutely take it, if it is what he wants. We will find another, probably young up and coming manager, and the chances are they will slot in and continue to move the club forwards. So, I'm happy for LW and positive about the future. Remember LW wasn't perfect and there are improvements to be made. I would be more confident in reaching the automatic slots than I was before.

  32. In terms of points, we definitely can. 80 points will pretty much always get you a playoff spot. We're currently on target for 74, which might be enough too but isn't always. However, we've got a lot of work to do. We need more quality at the back and more competition everywhere. If LW leaves that'll be a hammer blow as the players clearly love working with him and we'll need to find a worthy successor. And that raises the chances of us losing important players this month. Ideally you'll have one or two areas for improvement during the transfer window. This season hasn't gone as smoothly as hoped and I think we've got a bit too much to do to fix the issues we have.

  33. All depends on two things now. How quick can we get additional signings in that hopefully improve the side. How quick can we replace Luke Williams (if he does go), and who will be caretaker. I think we will fall short unless we improve our defence before the Grimsby game.

  34. The festive period fell a little wayward and, I apologise that this hadn't been completed sooner. November was a great month for PON, which led nicely into the final calendar month. There was a lot of fantastic effort by the community, which is pleasing and although things did become quieter (quite naturally) nearer to Christmas and the New Year, I still believe it's important to wrap this up. Between myself, @cheeky~k8 and @Burnz3r0. We have decided upon the nominations for each member group as to who should be named December's Member(s) of the Month here on the Pride of Nottingham. NewPie of the Month goes to: @Robbie. Member(s) of the Month goes to: @menzinho and @Piethagoram. Team Member of the Month goes to: @TheSkipper Congratulations to the four members! This is a fantastic achievement worth celebrating. So, many excellent contributions and posts during December and, we go again in 2024. Please take a moment to wish everyone well.

  36. I’m not angry but I am really disappointed that he’s leaving, I do understand his reasons it’s a no brainer really a with it being a championship club and near his family, he’s ambitious and you can’t blame him for that.

  37. LW always managed to handle himself very well when it came to post match interviews, the style of play he bought into the club was to be admired and how much he's achieved at the club, there's no surprise that he was sought after but honestly wasn't expecting it to be this soon. As gutted as I am about his departure, will be grateful for the memories he has given us and I wish him all the best for the future.

  38. it makes sense, but i hope we can find someone before our next game just so that they can take the helm. i am sure jim and the coaching staff will do a great job and i hope we find people who can take each role. it would be nice if we could get jim on board as a coach for us, i think he would be great. if we do need jim to take charge of a game, i am sure he will do well.

  39. @Super_Danny_Allsopp When I glimpsed at this, I had a sinking feeling, but I still believe we are in the best position to hire someone else who can continue the journey, much like Williams did after Burchnall. https://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/2024/january/luke-williams-departure-040123/

  41. Paul Cook of Chesterfield could be considered. He guided Chesterfield & Portsmouth to League 2 titles 2013/14 & 2016/17 respectfully. He also guided League 1 Wigan to the title in 2017/2018.

  43. It won't be Burchnall. I reckon he was there about Tipton. I don't see what returning brings to him, never mind us. I think it most likely that we will see someone from the NL, or someone in a similar position to Burchnall or Nolan at a Championship club. One thing is a sure thing, they will be a modern Head Coach, as opposed to a Manager, they will be young and hungry and play a modern style of football. Other than that.. who knows?!!

  45. Interesting reading some of the comments on Swans message boards. “Suppose we better get used to watching Martinesque ball again. Hope he doesn’t prioritise a ball playing keeper over a shot stopping keeper - (oops) We’re letting in more goals lately so defence needs sorting - (good luck with that) We need a new striker to play that kind of football - (5 mil and let’s talk about Macca) We also need an attacking midfielder with vision and guile - (you can keep your eyes off Crowley) The more I read, the more I think this could go badly wrong for him. I will wish him good luck though…. I think he will need it.
