The latest round of the County Championship pairs Hampshire v Nottinghamshire

The Notts eleven to face Hampshire at Utilita Bowl is in!

The hosts have won the toss and Notts will be batting first.

Aside from the fact that the players and staff are in Germany, what could be behind the the lack of new signings?

Could it be that spaces still to fill in the squad will be made from the current trialist and we are just waiting to see who is good enough? Are we still actively searching for a new number one goalkeeper or is the trialist Maks Baruc the likely candidate? Could it be we waiting to see if there are any outgoings, if so who might leave?

Has Meadow Lane got safe standing in place for this season? If so is anyone on here going to use it? Iโ€™d be interested to see what they thought when theyโ€™ve tried it, not that Iโ€™ll be standing my back wouldnโ€™t hold up for ninety minutes so Iโ€™ll have a seat when I go but Iโ€™m sure a lot of youngsters will make use of it.

  • I would hope that it generates more vocal support, as being at the back does have that benefit, and it's an area where most fans do stand already, so it does make more sense than some might think. There is scope that it could be expanded; we need to know more about it to speculate further on that.

We need to see what the club says; I am sure something like this will make the news when it's ready.

Iโ€™ve not heard anything about the safe standing being finished. Youโ€™d expect the club to have announced it by now, especially with a new season coming up. Iโ€™m interested to see what it looks like and whether fans take to it as much as the club seems to expect.

The problem with safe standing areas is that they are the same price as seating areas. Why can't they have safe standing areas without seats & at a lower price? The club could still control the number of people standing in that area

Hospitality | Luke Williams special guest for Notts Count...

Worth all of the ยฃ65 ๐Ÿคฃ

A very good interview of Martin Paterson. Well worth a look.

What I picked up from this excellent interview by Paul Mace accompanied by Mark Stallard was that the current Notts squad is not the finished article as far as Martin is concerned.

Notts are still looking to bring players in for areas that have been identified as needing players that can improve the squad. I picked up that all options are open regarding the make up of the final squad to take us up to the Jan window.

The Magpie Circle is excellent with its video interviews and vodcast.

Martin Paterson speaks well, as we saw in pre-season. He comes across as having ideas and a clear plan for the season.

There are good insights when he talks about his vision and what he wants to bring to the club.

Walsall midfielder Jamie Jellis is charged with misconduct for alleged breaches of the Football Association's betting rules.

Before joining Walsall, it was rumoured Notts were interested in him at Tamworth

Sad news from the Music World tonight.

Ozzy Osborne best known for fronting the Heavy Metal Rock Band, Black Sabbath has died. RIP Ozzy

"The probability of scoring a goal from a penalty kick is generally high, with statistics showing a success rate around 75%. This means on average, 3 out of 4 penalties taken result in a Goal."

"However, this can vary based on factors like the skill of the penalty taker and the quality of the goalkeeper."

The third & final match of Notts County's Pre Season German tour sees them take on 4th tier club Stuttgarter Kickers on Tuesday 15th July at 6 pm. BST

Head Coach Martin Paterson will be looking to finish the tour with a good performance & a positive result to lift the spirit of the players & the fans after being defeated in their previous two friendly games.

I think Martin will want to see a composed & workmanlike performance from the lads this time. The lads will need to show plenty of energy & a steely determination to come out on top.

Martin has been talking the talk, now it's time for his team to convert that positive talk into positive action on the field of play.

I hope to see Jodi Jones get some time on the pitch & for Martin to begin to put together the team that he believes could be his strongest team available.

Our second pre-season game and the first of our European tour is upon us, so as the local boy I thought I'd open a match thread (feel free to merge if another one is scheduled)!

Darmstadt will be tough opposition - they're a solid Bundesliga 2 side and are also further along in their preparations than we are. Their new signings include centre half Patric Pfeiffer - rejoining the club after helping them to promotion to the Bundesliga during his last spell, while another man to watch is big striker Fraser Hornby, who came through the youth ranks at Northampton and Everton and has played for Scotland up to under-21 level. Expect them to play an attacking style with a high defensive line.

The home side started their pre-season with a 24-0 win against the mighty force that is SV Traisa, and at the weekend they beat Viktoria Aschaffenburg (fourth division) 4-1.

As for Notts, it'll be interesting to see which of the Alfreton trialists make the trip and whether there are any new faces. It'll also be Barry Cotter's first appearance in a Notts shirt. It'll be interesting to see how MP intends to play, but realistically it's about getting minutes in legs at this stage.

I've no idea whether there will be a live stream yet, but if they do it'll probably be on the Lilies' official YouTube page.

The 2nd match on Notts County's three match tour of Germany is against Bundesliga 2 side FC Kaiserslautern on Saturday 12th July at 12:30 BST at their Fritz Walter Stadium.

This match will be another tough test for Notts, but Head Coach Martin Paterson welcomes these matches against higher league opposition.

Martin believes that Kaiserslautern will be an even tougher test for Notts than Notts faced in their first match against Darmstadt & that match was tough especially in the first half.

We could see Martin play what he believes is his strongest team as his starting eleven however, I believe he will continue to give the whole squad & trialists a run out at some point in the game.

  • I hope Martin Paterson isnโ€™t just saying things to please the impatient or unrealistic fans, it might backfire and give them something to hold against him. Iโ€™m sure he wants us to compete, and of course winning is great, no one plays to lose. But youโ€™ve got to stay grounded. I believe Notts gave it a proper go, but the quality at this level is a bit too strong right now.

Still, Iโ€™m confident that once our fitness picks up and weโ€™re facing teams closer to our level, weโ€™ll be alright. All this talk on the clubโ€™s socials about not having good players is really frustrating, it doesnโ€™t reflect reality at all.

I didnโ€™t get to watch the match on YouTube as Iโ€™d planned for reasons I wonโ€™t go into but Iโ€™m probably glad I didnโ€™t now.

Of course the real test will begin at the start of the season when we take on teams at our level so I certainly do think thereโ€™s any need to worry at the moment.

Sad news from Italy. Brescia are facing expulsion from the Italian Professional League system after becoming Bankrupt.

Brescia beat Notts 1:0 in the Anglo Italian Cup Final at Wembley on 20 March 1994, so we have that connection.

  • I think that we are very fortunate to have owners in the Reedtz brothers who are very careful financially & keep a tight reign on the the Notts County purse strings.

Bringing in players that have the potential to grow by either free transfer & low transfer fees, & then later selling those players for profit is good business & can keep the club financially sound.

I really wish they would say what the charges are properly. It could be anything, and fans should be told right away when itโ€™s announced. They donโ€™t have to explain every little thing, just give us a clear idea of whatโ€™s going on. That way, people arenโ€™t left guessing.

Itโ€™s bad for the fans, but itโ€™s good that they are being looked into for breaking the rules.

But when some clubs can get away with charges or put them off, you canโ€™t help but wonder how fair the rules are. They are supposed to keep football on a level playing field and stop clubs bending them to suit themselves.

Itโ€™s hard to believe someone could be smiling near a court, especially when facing a driving ban. Even if the photo was taken earlier, it comes across as careless and a bit smug. Iโ€™ve never liked Paul Ince, so Iโ€™m pleased heโ€™s been made to answer for his actions. Speeding isnโ€™t something that can be brushed off, it puts lives at risk.

Thereโ€™s no excuse for it. If anything, the length of the ban shouldโ€™ve been longer to properly reflect the seriousness.

Speeding is against the law no matter who you are, so he got what was coming to him. Fame shouldnโ€™t mean special treatment.

As for his football career, it seems like his name has done more work than his skills. Heโ€™s known more for getting jobs because of who he is, not how well he manages. Thatโ€™s never a good look.

Good morning, itโ€™s a cloudy start here and I noticed about six spots of rain on our bin so I donโ€™t suppose thatโ€™ll fill the reservoirs. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Itโ€™s a bit cooler outside but still very warm inside so the fan was on in our bedroom last night.

Whatโ€™s everyone up to? Anything exciting going on in your life?

Alassana Jatta and Jodi Jones were both on the scoresheet as Notts beat Port Vale 3-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Vale Park this afternoon.

ALSO MINUTES FOR: Trialist, Robinson, McDonald, Macari, Hinchy, Edwards, Kouhyar, Reynolds, Jarvis, Traore, Jatta

  • Shame there's been no footage released from this besides a short match report it's hard to gauge how well we played. Clearly given we won there'll have been a lot more positives than negatives. And I'd be happy to see Jodi given a chance to play as one of the attacking midfielders, he's got the quality to do it.

I still don't get why it was behind closed doors though. I wonder if clubs actually lose money by putting on friendlies, given the cheaper tickets and lower attendance?

Perhaps they thought Notts werenโ€™t a big enough draw? As you say it might cost them money to pay stewards, staff etc.

It was a good result against a side that showed their quality last season. They may not have gone all out, but as a friendly, itโ€™s a positive sign for Notts. Still, weโ€™ll need to see how things go once the season kicks off before getting carried away. Thereโ€™s always that bit of unknown until the real tests begin. Iโ€™m glad Jodi and Jatta played. Theyโ€™re both key to how well we do, and having them involved early is a big plus.

Just got out of Hearts v Dunfermline in the Scottish League Cup. First time at Tynecastle - I wasn't expecting such a big crowd and a whopping away following, looked far more than the declared 1,500, much bigger than what we usually see at Meadow Lane.

The stadium seemed bigger, but the official capacity is just a dozen more than Meadow Lane. I was stunned to find out the attendance was only 12,940, when we regularly declare 10K+. Either they're undercounting, we're overcounting or it's some kind of optical illusion!

  • Although it is not universal, a lot of clubs always count the number of season tickets sold when they publish an attendance figure for a League match. This may mean that there is a discrepancy between the actual total & the stated total.

Yeah, itโ€™s pretty clear we moved to that system under the bros. Bradford were an even more obvious case last season. I support it, itโ€™s good for morale. If thereโ€™s no standard way of counting and declaring crowds in the EFL thatโ€™s a surprise. Youโ€™d have thought the FA would have guidelines to follow

The draw of the San Sirrel can be a bit misleading when it comes to how busy it looks. The Family Stand sometimes seems empty, but when more people sit there, it looks different, probably because fans space themselves out rather than sitting close together.

Iโ€™ve always liked traditional football grounds. You donโ€™t see many of them now with all these new stadiums being built. A lot of the modern ones feel lifeless or have strange shapes, some even look like soup bowls. The charm of old-style grounds is getting lost.
