Welcome to PON @Wheelbarrow repair man. ????????
some of the comments from fans is quite embarrassing, i have been to every away game this season and countless times i have had my view blocked. not everyone can stand for 90 minutes, i can but choose to sit because i dont want to block other fans views. i do this out of respect, which some fans seem to forget that our fanbase needs to get along with each other. yet there are some calling those who sit, which is just silly.
those who want to stand just go to the back of the stands, allow the front to see.
notts fans cant help but being embarrassing at times.
I get why fans might be annoyed, and it's easy to assume which section of our fans is causing the issue. But as a fan base, Notts has to get a grip, and everyone should try their best to be considerate. I wouldn't want to pay for a game, especially with the away travel, and have my view obstructed. It's not rocket science to stand where others are, so I'm a bit lost for words now.
Occurrences like this make me despair about people's thoughts. I believe our time in the non-league has influenced some fans negatively, but we should strive to treat others well. If they can't, stewards should intervene.
Notts County supporters have turned away games into a special occasion, something to anticipate even when the team is in poor form. While winning and good performances enhance the experience, I often find myself obstructed by taller individuals, typically in their mid-20s to early 30s, who seem more interested in socialising than supporting Notts. Some of our fans are embarrassing and lack a connection with fellow supporters.
Is it time that the EFL introduced, Goal Line Technology for all games in the EFL?
We continue to get contentious decisions where there has been disputes by players and fans on whether the ball has crossed the line or not.
We have seen two examples in recent weeks, Mansfield v Notts and MK Dons v Wrexham where the ball seems to have crossed the line, but the Ref on both occasions thought different.
It shouldn't be to hard to set up the technology at all grounds. It could prove very useful to Referees.
I would welcome such a move by the EFL.
Here's the example from the
MK Dons match v Wrexham.
If it came at the expense of the league, then yes, but it shouldn't be imposed on clubs as the payment would be unfair. I'm all for goal-line technology, but the price could be a hindrance to its implementation.
It appears that goal line technology is not infallible and sometimes the cameras and sensors don't confirm that the ball has crossed the line when it clearly has. Just like VAR then.
https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/efl-admit-goal-line-technology-7546692
It's much better than VAR, especially in terms of reliability. If the cost can be more practical, expanding it throughout the EFL would make sense. Otherwise, they could introduce it gradually in phases over a period of five seasons, delivering it to one league after the other.
Last season, Salford City made the playoffs in 7th place with 22 wins, 9 draws, 15 losses & 75 points. I think to be safe in the playoffs this season 80 points may achieve it for Notts this season.
Notts have accrued 42 points from 26 games So far. So 38 points minimum from 20 games left is doable. 12 wins and two draws would do it, allowing for 6 additional losses. Anything more from those 6 games would be a bonus.
It is going to be a stretch though. We have some tough games still to come against the top four, Mansfield, Barrow, Wrexham, & Stockport, & all the other games will be tough too, but I am confident we still have a good chance of making the playoffs.
Thoughts?
Do you remember that joker Oliver King he used to write about Notts on Nottingham Live ? He once wrote Notts were owned by Derek Parvis, ring any bells ? Anyway he writes for Football League World now. He seems to think if Notts don't get promoted or make the playoffs it's a disaster . Why ? I've said it before and I'll say it again Notts aren't ready for League 1. It may happen 2024/2025 it all depends on recruitment this Summer. I still think Notts are a side capable of attracting quality players to the Lane and over the past couple or so season's the Recruitment team have unearthed some Top Talent without breaking the Bank. Lets wait and see.

That's ridiculous. Why would it be a disaster for us not to make the play offs? The owners have repeated that it's all about progression. We have the 10th biggest budget in the division according to the CEO so play offs would be a stretch based on that. We've demonstrated you can find absolute gems if you're a well run club with good people - Jones, Macca, Ruben, etc, etc, all came to us as a Non League side (I know Jones was only on loan) - so if anyone leaves, I'd think there will be no shortage of players happy to replace them.
@Simon Clark I agree. Many clubs in this league would love to have players like Bostock, Crowley, Jones, Robertson, Didzy & Macca in their side. There's a very valuable bunch of players there for starters. These players wouldn't be out of place in League 1.
No it’s not a new player coming to Notts so don’t get excited.
I’ve just been in the garden and at a quick count there are 8 frogs in our small pond.
Anyone else seen signs of Spring?
You'll know when Spring is really here, because as Max Bygraves used to sing When It's Spring Again I'll bring again Tulips from Amsterdam. I'll get my coat.
We’re going to get a lot of rain this year, with not much sun. I hope this is wrong but I don’t see the weather getting much better.

You’re a cheery soul @StanfordPie
Still not convinced re McGoldrick on Saturday. Shouldn't the rule be renamed arm-ball?
Not handball, I don’t think there’s much of an argument to be made and I think the referee made the decision too quickly.
I don’t think the referee made the correct decision. I believe if David McGoldrick felt he handled it, we would have seen a reaction from him and the Wrexham players.
Based on the highlights, I just don't see it, but perhaps the referee had a better view? Maybe it was the wrong call. I think it looks like the goal should have stood, but I do understand the decision. We wouldn't be complaining if this happened on the other foot, would we? It doesn't make it right, but we will be fine.
A year ago today we lost @GrannyPie who a lot of members will remember for her kindness and gentle reprimands, if she thought it needed she’d threaten to get her sticks out. ????
Our thoughts are with @super_ram @Chris and all the family today.
I hope you can get through the day with peaceful thoughts and happy memories.
Granny Pie was one of us. It was incredibly sad when she passed away. She was proud of @Chris and her grandchildren. @super_ram I'm sure the many happy memories are a comfort to you.
It’s easy to underestimate the significant role online forums play in our lives and the impact of contributors who make it a place we enjoy visiting. I was deeply saddened when I heard about GP, as she seemed to be a delightful woman with a great sense of humour. My thoughts are with the PON family, not only the immediate members but everyone who has lost someone truly special.
I can't pretend I knew Granny Pie, but I wish I had. She seemed like a lovely, spirited person who cared about others settling in. I feel terribly sorry for her family; it's such a sad loss, and you can tell how much she meant to people. That says a lot about her. I send my thoughts to the family, and I hope @super_ram can smile and raise a glass to Granny Pie.
What are your favourite Notts County Players/Managers nicknames of all time?
I'll start you off with "Killer" Brian Kilcline & "Deano" Dean Yates.
Me again. The most obvious Macca for Macaulay Langstaff and then Didzy for David McGoldrick. How about Jodi Electric Jones ? Just made that up myself.
33 minutes ago, Wheelbarrow repair man said:Can we also have Managers nicknames as well Robbie ? Like Big Sam, Mad Dog Martin Allen. Players Ian Charlie McParland Stubsy or Stubbins Brian Stubbs. Hughsey Lee Hughes, there should be more but my minds gone blank, that's me , not a Notts players nickname. The Don, Don Masson. Tommy Johno Johnson.
The Irish Messi, Alan Judge was an exceptional player; even though Cal Roberts is considered the Geordie Messi, the original Irish Messi remains the best.
Looks like Messi is begining the MLS season with a bang by orchestrating this great move for Inter Miami
Football to the Yanks involves blokes in padded uniforms and helmets, and in the words of Jeremy Clarkson, a bit like Rugby which is played by Real Men.. Have you ever seen the Soccer (as they call it) chants the Yank supporters come out with? There's a comparison on you tube showing the difference between American Fans and English Fans. The most daring chant the Yanks have is I BELIEVE WE CAN WIN . I Kid You Not.
It was a good straight run, with good passing but the goal is standard and even if it was scored with any other players not many other than those fans of the players would be talking about that.
It was a commendable run, but labeling the goal as extraordinary suggests bias or limited exposure to impressive goals. Regarding passes, Messi has executed more exceptional ones in his career. By their standards, it's a straightforward play and a neat finish.
Good news. Alassana Jatta's visa application has been approved and Notts are expected to welcome him to Nottingham this week!
It is certainly going to be fascinating to see if Stuart picks Jatta either to start, or put him on the bench on Saturday.
I hope that Stuart might rest Didzy and Jatta replaces him up front supported by Macaulay.
When you see people, Jatta is one who looks like a professional athlete and possibly a footballer. I hope he proves his worth here because we need more goals. When you look at our score, there aren’t enough goals. We should have a fair number over or at 5 goals. Many simply haven’t scored or are stuck at one. It would be great to see him bring his scoring boots.
Notts has high hopes that Jatta can make a difference. It might not be immediate, but he’s here and could be someone who might be more useful next season. Now he might need to settle in and get used to things.
£24m loss 2022

When the parachute payments are so blatantly unfair to the vast majority of Championship Clubs, it's hardly surprising that clubs are going to get into trouble financially, trying to keep up with these much richer clubs.
You only have to look to the current top of the Championship to see this unfairness.
There needs to be a drastic change, starting with abolishing parachute payments and putting a cap on wages & spending on players.
Football is a big gamble, but many aren’t ready to invest over several years and establish measures to enhance their financial situation. Teams like QPR spend heavily to reach the Premier League and depend on the parachute payments for support. It might be time to abandon this approach in favour of methods that ensure teams can maintain their operations if they get relegated.
i am not the biggest fan of pancakes either, i dont make them myself even though i could. i prefer to eat healthier things, when i was younger i would have them with sugar but i dont think its something that i enjoyed as much as i would with other food. its a traditional thing which i understand, but i would rather make a cup cake.

I haven't had any English style pancakes for over 25 years. I don't have so many now because I have to watch my diet, but I do love American style pancakes.
Just think of a pancake as a fried Yorkshire pudding as they are practically the same.
As a desert, try Yorkshire pudding with either syrup or jam, bloomin’ delicious!!

I’m in awe of skilled photographers. Wildlife and aeroplanes are all challenging subjects to photograph, and when you see someone with a natural talent, it’s deserving of praise.
why is the accrington chairman getting involved with other clubs when its non of his business? hes the first to complain about others outside of stanley making comments on them. hes becoming quite an annoying figure, yes sometimes he makes sense but the days where he was interesting and insightful have long lived out their days with him being on social media.
4m is not a lot for a club at this level, maybe crawley will recoup some of their losses eventually?
Andy Holt might be on his high horse again, but he's not wrong here. 4 million pounds is a staggering amount of money to lose for a club their size when you consider the TV money and solidarity payments that League clubs get. That's well in excess of an annual wage budget at League Two level. Where on earth did it go?
Includes Jodi Jones.
when we start to see more notts players in the team of the week, it will show only positive signs. i am very pleased for jodi jones, as he does deserve to be in it.
good player, i remember him ripping was it walsall a part whilst he was here? his career seems never to have lived up to his potential which is sad.
Another round of Magnet links on Saturday Notts take on Crewe. How many links can we find between the two clubs? I’ll start you off with Geoff Thomas who left Notts in 2001 after making 8 appearances and rejoined Crewe where he spent an earlier period in his career.
How many more can we find?
we have free ports? it does not seem to make much sense. surely its better to have a fair import tax rather than free ones. i might be missing all the information but it sounds like something which needs to be stopped.
i remember when pon first started in the early 2010s. it was one of those historic parts of our history that made me happy to know about.
Crowd 19,978 and me!
i remember when we drew to them 1-1, then they demolished us at thier ground in the fa cup. man city was not a big team in the 90s, but its still interesting to learn about.
Occasionally, circumstances may prevent members from frequently posting on the forum, or they might leave for various reasons. The recent increase in former members and the sad news regarding Who r ya?? You Pies!! has triggered some personal reflections.
Which PON members have you been missing lately? For instance, I have noticed that our invaluable contributor @Super_Danny_Allsopp hadn't posted for quite some time. I enjoyed reading his views on games, as he offered valuable insights, made common-sense arguments, and demonstrated a thorough understanding of how Notts played and how they could improve. I also recollect a young lad by the username @weymouthPIE. I found pleasure in reading his tales of football and, certainly, his thoughts on Notts.
What about you? Just in case they may be lurking, who do you miss?

I think I'd forgotten I was ever a member! I live 3.5 hours away. I've got back into going to games over the last 18 months since my Mum died and I've been up in Notts to see my Dad every couple of weeks. He's about to move to Suffolk to be near me, but now that I've got back into the habit... Plus my daughter starts at Notts Uni in September, so I can combine seeing football with seeing her. May even drag her to a game.

Sorry to read about your mum, @GrannyPie (my mum) died in February, and it's a difficult thing to overcome. It's good that you are managing to get to see your dad, though.
It's positive that you are getting back into Notts, not because of PON but for family reasons.
Let's hope we have a good season again.
You may make a fan out of your daughter! All the best to you.
im thankful for the members of pon who give me something to look forward to, i feel i have made friends and its given me somewhere i feel able to communicate. i know people will come and go, but the majority of posters are people who make me feel like i do about the site. when someone drops off or loses their way, some might not notice but i do.
everyone is probably busy right now but i hope that no matter what religion, politics, race etc we can continue to make the site fun.
i would hate to see anyone active leave.
Coronavirus do you think it will spread further into the UK? Every 5-10 years, something like this happens but it's the first thing the media here has me concerned about.

The issue I have with “Breathless” is that Dr Rachel Clarke is politically motivated and so it won’t be a totally true account of what actually happened.
I saw an interview with her and the main actress the other day and she still stated that over 200K of people died ‘of’ COVID in the country, and not ‘with’ COVID. Unfortunately we will never probably know the true number that actually died because of COVID because of the willingness at the time to write all deaths off as COVID on death certificates just because they tested positive.
Some Shrewsbury supporting friends were saying Cotterill doesn't much like the new director of football club structures
if it works for him and fgr so be it, cotterill clearly is a manager who likes control of his own future. director of football can help, but i dont think many lower teams are setup right enough for them to work. the money is better spent on players.
Well, the weekend is here again. Now as you regular readers will know Friday is curry night in the BigTone household, well we are breaking with tradition because my tummy is still a bit delicate from a Norovirus bug, so we’ve got a nice bit of braising steak which has been sitting in the slow cooker all day with some onions, we are having it with celeriac mash. If you want a healthy non fattening alternative to mash potato try celeriac it’s an ugly looking thing but tastes lovely, available from Morrisons.
Tomorrow I’ll be listening to the match, I don’t feel fit enough yet for a park run so I’m giving that a miss.
Not sure what’s happening on Sunday yet.
So what are you up to this weekend? Travelling to Wrexham? Shopping? Time with family? Let us know in this topic. Let’s chat.
friday i ended up doing more overtime, with all the layoffs that have been occuring its put a burden on those who have remained. im very against the reduced staff, but at the same time i want to make sure things are handled well. besides extra pay is never a bad thing, its going to be put to good use. ????
i went wrexham saturday by myself, @CliftonMagpie has been unwell and @TheSkipper was not able to get down to nottingham in time.
i actually enjoyed it, despite the awful officiating.
sunday i fetched my mums shopping and stayed over for sunday dinner. in the evening i went out with my dad and uncle for a couple of drinks.
