A case for Tiernan to be our number 1
There have been someΒ memorable moments for Notts County in 2023.
What are your memorable moments?

Itβs been a fantastic year to be a Notts fan hasnβt it I guess most people would say that regaining our league status has to be the memorable moment of 2023, itβs certainly mine.
Being at Wembley to witness arguably the best NL playoff final in history was special. My friend is a WBA fan. He was with me at Wembley and he was completely involved. He was happier than me when Notts won ???? The icing on the cake was meeting Shane Meadows. I've seen every film and TV series Shane has made. He was so nice.Β

We are now into Jan 2024 as I reply to this topic.
Dan has been a revelation having scored 10 goals from midfield as I write.
Trouble is, we are leaking goals like a sieve even though we are scoring freely. Dan is doing well but I can't help feeling that the balance of the side is too weighted toward offense to the detriment of the defense.
Yes it is @Robbie__64, LW has stated that he doesnβt like removing a player from attack by changing formation, so he will have to get better defenders.
Crowley has been brilliant, but I would be happy to lose an attacking option on the right as we would still have Crowley, Langstaff, Didzy and Jones on the pitch.
Good point @FozzyΒ we have Jones on the left doing a great job, so he could always move to the right occasionally if needed.
We have Scott Robertson now who I believe is more defensively minded who could do a roll for us in the final centre of midfield.
Nemane may be the person to give way for him or another signing

The favourite isn't always the best
Craig Short for fighting on the pitch in a suit and tie like a drunk wedding guest. Could have been a decent manager is given the chance too.
Neil Warnock for being an all-round legend. Met him away from Notts and football a few years back and he seemed a lovely bloke too.
Martin Allen and Sam Allardyce for the way both of them turned the club round during their time in charge and left it on the up. Sam gets a bonus point for the old-school tache.
And Luke Williams, no explanation needed!
Β "Could have been a decent manager is given the chance too."Β @DangerousSausage
I liked Craig Short, spoke well, might be in with a chance if and when Luke moves on ( hopefully we have Luke for a few more years yet).
However, his signing of his mate, Ben Burgess was a complete disaster
My 1, 2 and 3 favourite Managers are:-
Jimmy
Neil
Big Sam

Looking back, itβs clear how much progress weβve made. Itβs vital to curb the pessimism to make the most of the start Notts has had. The players need our support, so letβs cheer them on. Expecting consecutive promotions is challenging, but if thereβs a way we can assist, we should certainly try.
A fantastic 12 months of success for our great club.
The progress that we have madeΒ during this time is absolutely remarkable, but also well deserved, setting records on the way.
Not only winning promotion, but in a position at the end of 2023 to challenge for back to back promotions.
Roll on 2024.
Horace Vincent Henshall born 14/06/1889 was an English Footballer & Manager, who during his career, played for & later Managed Notts County.
Football Career.Β Β
Horace appeared in non-league football for Bridgetown Amateurs & Crewe AlexandraΒ before joiningΒ the Football LeagueΒ withΒ Aston VillaΒ in 1910 till 1912, where he made 45 appearances & scored 8 goals.
Henshall then joined Notts County the same year, for a then club record fee. He played the bulk of his football withΒ Notts County. He made 164 league appearances for the club, scoring 27 goals,Β although his career at Notts was interrupted by theΒ First World War.
Henshall played for Notts until 1922. He then signed forΒ Sheffield WednesdayΒ in Dec 1922 & remained at the club until March 1923 making 14 appearances & scoring 1 goal, before jointing Chesterfield, where he finished his league career in 1924, with a record of 33 appearances & 3 goals.
During his Football career Henshall made 256 appearances and scored 39 goals, his career being interrupted by the First World WarΒ
Management Career.Β Β
Henshall was Manager ofΒ Lincoln CityΒ from May 1924 to June 1927, guiding the club through a period of financial austerity. He returned to Notts County in June 1927, succeedingΒ Albert FisherΒ as Secretary Manager, and remained with the club until May 1934. He Managed Notts to Division 3 South Champions in 1930/31.Β
Life after Football.Β Β
After leaving Notts, Henshall remained inΒ Nottingham, serving as landlord of the Navigation Inn near the club'sΒ Meadow LaneΒ ground. He died, 7/12/1951 (Source Google)
Legacy.Β Β Β Β Β Β
Horace Vincent Henshall can be rightly regarded as a Notts County great & legend who managed his team to a Championship trophy.
It was simply a sensational performance by Notts, particularly in that first half, and Macaulay Langstaff bagging his first EFL hat trick. This guy is really making himself a legend at NottsΒ
Β
I agree with these posters.
Having been watching football for over 55 years I have seen a decade by decade improvement in the standard of football over all the four top divisions and the top tier of non league.
The top six teams challenging for promotion from League 2 this year could easily compete in the 2nd tier of 25 years ago in my opinion.
And I believe the Premier League has lifted this standard all round, although there remains a big gulf between Premier League & the Championship.
We are probably the nearest we will ever be to total football in this Notts side with so many players changing positions on the pitch during the game. We are basically now playing 3-6-0 with the 6 being broken down into several different formations throughout the game and Bostock at times dropping into the back line to collect the ball or for when either Brindley or Cameron move forward.
We still need to strengthen the back line as soon as possible, but this must surely be the top priority now and Iβm intrigued as to who it may be.

This is very true, League 2 today is a world away from what it was when we were relegated into it in the late 90s. The standard then is more akin to today's National League.
Some of the players we have and the football we are playing are out of this world, enjoy every minute of it!
As we all know, the true meaning of Christmas is to have lots of football. So we have another round of games on Friday! These all kick off at 7.45pm, and don't forget those jokers!

Albert William FisherΒ (Feb 1881 β 4 Dec 1937) was an English professional footballer who scored 23 goals from 56 appearances inΒ the Football LeagueΒ playing as anΒ inside forwardΒ forΒ Aston Villa,Β Bristol City & Manchester City. He also played forΒ Southern LeagueΒ clubsΒ Brighton & Hove Albion,Β Bradford Park Avenue,Β Queens Park Rangers,Β Coventry CityΒ andΒ Merthyr Town.
AsΒ player-manager, he led Merthyr Town to the Southern League Second Division title in 1911/12.
Albert joined Notts County as Secretary Manager, (that's what they called Managers then), succeeding the previous Manager, Tom Harris in Aug 1913 & Managed the club through World War 1 till May 1927. He guided Notts to the Division 2 title in the 1913/14 and 1922/23 seasons.
In all Albert Managed Notts over 444 matches, winning 167, drawing 114, & losing 163 with a win percentage of 39.62% (source Google)

A very impressive performance. Best of the season so far? I think so. The adjustments LW has made are having a very positive impact.Β
Great goal by Macaulay. He's so deadly either inside or outside the box.

I agree @PiethagoramΒ about Jimmy. A Manager that took a club from the 4th Division up to the Ist should have had more recognition from the powers that be.
The achievement may never ever be repeated.
1 hour ago, Chris said:Mary Earps hasn't really done anything to warrant it, I'm not one those people who bash her and go on about it solely being awarded due to feminism. I just think their are far more worthy people, people who have retired and done so much charity work.
It's not just Mary, others are having awards given to them for a spotlight instead of a true legacy.
It's just wrong in my eyes.
I agree @ChrisΒ
When you look at other sporting icons & those outside sport, who were more deserving of recognition & didn't get it. This seems to happen a lot.

2 minutes ago, Fozzy said:Which musical @Fan of Big Tone? We love the west end theatres and try to get to see one every year.
Itβs called Operation Mincemeat at the Fortune Theatre.Β
I don't really like having things bought me, unless I want something in general and usually this isn't the case. I spent the money given to me for Christmas by @super_ramΒ and @GrannyPie on a new mattress topper.
Our mattress is very comfy, but I don't know they always seem to become lacking in time. We had a topper before, but it's not very good. I always pulled it to my side.???? The new one, not only stays put but it helps massively with my back. I think Cheeky's happy with it too.
I know the fan who owns his match worn Notts shirt, maybe they'd be interested in this? The shirt looks horrible though.
I'm not a fan the colour.
Whoβs Reuben Rodrigues?Β
Seriously Crowley has been more than an ample replacement for him, what a signing he has been.
It was always going to be hard to replace Ruben, but in Dan we have a real gem..
Not only is he an excellent playmaker, he also adds to our threat up front too, by the way he glides Into the opposition penalty box like a.centre forward,, to get on the end of those crosses.
It certainly gives Notts an extra dimension up front too.
From Tommy Lawton, Jackie Sewell to Lee Hughes, Notts County has seen its fair share of talented players over the years. Who stands out as the best? What makes him so special to you?

Tom Harris managed our club from 1893 to 1913, a very long period of time for a Club Manager.
They were actually called Secretary Managers in those days.
Tom is the only Notts County Manager that has lifted the FA Cup, winning it in 1894, when Notts defeated Bolton Wanderers 4:1 at Goodison Park.
Notts were actually a Division 2 club when they won the Cup, defeating 3 Top tier sides on the way to their triumph.
Tom also guided Notts to the Division 2 Championship in season 1896/97 and a 3rd place in Division 1 in 1900/01.
Tom is a true legend of Notts County Football Club & his achievement is unique, which puts him equal to all the other great Managers who have served this club.
Β
The positive thing to point out is that because we have the best offense in league 2, we are still in the playoff mix, & we will continue to score goals, but I think we need changes in defense & goalkeepingΒ position & we need to be more defensive minded away.
We have some tough away games to play and if we keep playing like this, we will finish in the lower mid table, come season's end.
