  1. When supporting football, some fans tend to focus only on players who are from the same nation as them or who play for a team from their country. However, some supporters have a soft spot for players from different nationalities, even those who have no relation to their country. As a Notts County fan, have you ever supported players from countries like Australia, Trinidad and Tobago, Portugal, Algeria, or any others?

Did this happen because of a former Notts player or just because you have a particular affinity for that country? Let's discuss it...

      Likewise with @liampie.

I always try to support Australia, but I feel they've become quite dirty over the last few years. Columbia is a great place to be in. I had a soft spot for Mexico once. Other than that, I try to support nations that are considered to be underdogs.

I don’t watch many international football matches anymore. I still tune in for the Euros and the World Cup, but I’ve stopped watching tournaments like the African Nations Cup and the Copa America.

Got a soft spot for Spain me. Was lucky enough to usually holiday there when I was young. And I was your classic case of a football mad kid on holiday annoying his dad to buy him a knock off Spain shirt with "Raul 7" on the back! Probably only cost him €10, but you would've thought I was wiping out the holiday budget with the resistance he put up. My parents probably had to peel that shirt of my body for it's first wash, I remember wearing it for days...

Always like going back now, when I can. Weather, food and people are always great.

Agree with @liampie too, I'll be tuning into England v Malta next month to cheer on our Jodi!

I think Notts is trying to attract more fans to Meadow Lane ahead of the new season, which could prove to be a masterstroke on their part. I hope they find another good club to play against at home.

  2. I actually started working on this cover back when Jodi signed on loan, I didn't get very far with it. However, I thought I would persist and with him signing permanently I thought it would be worth sharing it with him.

    Richard Brindley

    Tobi Adebayo-Rowling

    John Bostock

    Matt Palmer

    Luther Munakandafa

    Sam Austin

    Cedwyn Scott

    Macaulay Langstaff

    Offered new contract

    Sam Slocombe

    Kyle Cameron

    Connell Rawlinson

    Aaron Nemane

    Jim O’Brien

    Ruben Rodrigues

    Loan players offered permanent contract

    Jodi Jones

    Released

    Ed Francis

    Frank Vincent

    Kairo Mitchell

    Loan deals expiring

    Archie Mair

Our head coach, Luke Williams, said: “As any head coach or manager would tell you, saying goodbye to players is one of the worst parts of the job – and that’s been no different with Ed, Frank and Kairo, who are all fantastic people and professionals.

“Ed trained brilliantly with us every day but he needs to play more minutes. He’s made key contributions when he’s played and has been unfortunate not to have more time on the pitch. He showed his quality on loan at Gateshead and I’m sure he’ll become a key player for his next club.

“Vinny is someone I regard very highly for the way he works day-to-day. The matches are a small part of a long week of work and his incredible personality shines through every day. While his gametime was limited here this season, he had a very successful loan at Aldershot and I believe he’ll be a star player for somebody. I don’t think I can give him what he needs at this stage of his career but I’ll be watching with great interest to see how he progresses.

“Kairo is another terrific guy, who we shouldn’t forget scored some really important goals for us early in the season. I think any striker would have suffered in the wake of Macaulay Langstaff and he didn’t get the minutes he desired. Despite that, he played a big part in what we went on to achieve and will now become the focal point of someone’s team.

“On the players we’d like to keep, I’m delighted that we have offered new contracts to Sam, Connell and Jim – all experienced campaigners whose immeasurable contributions aren't completely visible from the stands.

“They’ve all had brilliant seasons and bring added value in their composure and words to their team-mates. Their natural leadership qualities surface in difficult moments and there have been many times this season when I have left them to share their wisdom with the group. They tow the line and show respect towards me, as I would expect, but I also want them to be able to show their own individual character and personalities. All of them do that in a really powerful way.

“We would also love to keep Kyle, Aaron, Ruben and Jodi, who have all experienced five seasons’ worth of drama in the space of one campaign. We're aiming to retain a core of players who have been through the challenges we have faced together and understand the expectations of playing for this club.

“The players, as many of our supporters will know, are now being given some well-deserved breathing space. It’s important that they decompress – and once they’ve done that, those who are considering contract offers will be in the right frame of mind to evaluate the pros and cons. They’ll also have advice from family, friends and agents, which is really helpful in ensuring they’re able to consider all sides of the argument.

“Once they’ve had the time to go through that process, probably towards the end of next week, we’ll look to meet with them and see where we are.

“If someone has something which potentially changes their life in a huge way, we know that might lead to them leaving us – but if any offers aren’t hugely significant, we feel confident of surviving them because we can offer a package which goes beyond finances.

“We have an incredibly passionate and engaged fanbase, a beautiful playing surface, an iconic stadium, brilliant training facilities and driven staff who are producing fantastic work across all departments.

“These are all things which are exciting and appealing to players, whether they’re at the club already or thinking about joining us.

“Now we know where our destiny lies, work has already begun on recruitment. New information will be coming in on a daily basis but I won’t be involved in that, nor do I want to be. There are far better people than me to deal with it because my life revolves around maximising the performance of the players already in the building.

“Of course, I will be involved in the process at the right moment. I’ll give my opinion but it won’t be final – and, again, I wouldn’t want it to be. The club is more important and bigger than me and needs to function independently from any head coach. Whatever the final decision is on any new player, I’m always happy and motivated to work with them.

“Earlier this week, after the initial celebrations had died down, I returned to the stadium having had my first thoughts about how we can make 2023-24 another brilliant campaign. Alongside those thoughts came a feeling of pressure and expectation, which naturally falls upon me as head coach.

“I was met with the incredibly reassuring and inspirational sight of our office staff still with their foot on the throttle, showing no signs of complacency.

“In football you of course have to take good moments and enjoy them – but you very quickly remember that you have to keep going because bad moments can follow if you don’t.

“I was so happy to witness this hive of activity and to see how everyone connected with the club is united in our shared ambition to drive forward from here.”

I’m quite confident about all the players renewing. I see there are a lot of fans believing that Ruben will leave, but he could sign a one-year deal with us and still make a move higher up. If he did well in League Two, I think clubs higher up would be more inclined to go in for him.

It's now the end of the week and so far only Jodi Jones has re-signed. He was obviously very keen! Everyone else still mulling it over I guess, although I am surprised we've not had a couple more players re-sign.

Anyone worried we might be losing a few players?

    4. JohnTheBost

      JohnTheBost

@menzinho I believe the football players are currently on holiday. Jodi mentioned on Twitter that he had tickets for the Coventry playoff match, but he is playing for Malta. It seems he is trying to ensure his future without losing focus. Meanwhile, some of the other players will be more relaxed, as they won't be playing for some time.

  4. I'm curious to know - what's the furthest you've lived away from Meadow Lane?

Where have you lived up until now and how does the place you live compare to where you grew up?

As a lifelong resident of Nottingham, I don't have an exciting background story worth sharing. Despite this, I have contemplated leaving the city several times. Yes, they weren’t biased towards us compared to other teams and said plenty about Notts. You could say they didn’t do the same for Wrexham, who did receive some praise at times when it wasn’t truly deserved, but that’s to be expected.

  5. You may remember that there was a former member in our group who used to go by the name "Who r ya?". You Pies!!", he was a frequent member who enjoyed sharing his views on Notts County with us. He roughly spent 3 years with us and during that duration he posted 1,263 times.

In 2019, a few months before he disappeared. He told me that he had been unwell, he said that it wasn't anything serious and that he would be fine. I wished him a speedy recovery, not thinking much more about it. It turns out, he passed away unexpectedly. I don't know the cause, the details are very vague, but I reached out to a relative who earlier today confirmed his passing.

There have been a few members who in the past have died, and it's been known, however, I find it quite saddening that despite my initial concern. A member who had established himself as a very kind and caring person, could pass away without us truly knowing. I have tried to reach out, it's difficult because the email address used seemed to be a shared one. That e-mail links me to an account on Facebook which at the time I tried to unearth what happened seemed dormant.

It's with my deepest regret to inform members that he has passed away.

    Rest in Peace, Pete Day.

  6. I see they have managed to escape relegation from the Premiership, I was rather hoping they would go down, I’m not sure why I feel that way, jealousy probably.

I do however applaud the way they kept faith with the manager and didn’t panic when things looked bad, I feel the fans played a big part of that decision, there is a lesson to be learnt by other clubs.

How do others feel about our neighbours?

    Pleased for them?

    Hate them with a passion?

    Indifferent?

I hope that both Nottingham Forest and Notts County can have success in the future. While some fans may not represent their clubs in the best way, it’s important to remember that both clubs have a rich history and contribute to the city of Nottingham. It would be great to see more collaboration between the two clubs, such as sharing youth players and showing mutual respect for each other’s history and achievements.

I am a Countyman, nothing else. I can’t pretend that their survival is a huge thing when some of their fans can’t appreciate how big our return to the Football League is. I mean, they struggled to get out of League One, blamed their chairman and made his life hell. He sadly dies, they love him again. They would be in trouble without Nigel Doughty and all his efforts. No, I don’t care for Forest and I never will.

I've often thought about joining Twitter, but the thought of dealing with negativity and hostility has put me off. I don't particularly enjoy confrontation, and from what I've seen, Twitter seems to be like a wild jungle where anything goes.

While there are certainly benefits to being on Twitter, such as engaging with a variety of people and staying up to date with news and events, the potential downsides seem too overwhelming for me. The constant barrage of unsolicited opinions and comments can be exhausting and draining, and I'm not sure I'm ready to deal with all of that just yet.

Perhaps in the future, I'll change my mind, but for now, I'll stick to other social media platforms that are a bit more manageable and less intense.

  9. Morning all, it’s a cloudy start to the day but at least it’s not raining or particularly cold. Hopefully the sun will be out later.

I’ve noticed the forum doesn’t get going until around tea time sometimes and then explodes into life in the evening.

I guess I’m lucky in that I am retired so can laze about in bed with a coffee first thing whereas most of you are probably getting up for work, school or college or just having a lie in.

What’s everyone’s plans today? Or if you’re reading this late what have you been up to?

I am going shopping with Mrs Fan of Big Tone, it’s our sons birthday soon and we want to pop out to get him a few bits. Then we’ll probably spend some time in the garden toning our tans if the sun comes out, in this country you have to make the most of any good weather. 😆

I try to avoid getting up too early unless I have something to do before work. Otherwise, I steer clear of anything before 7am. I’m like a vampire, but instead of avoiding the sun, I need plenty of sleep and don’t like being woken up too early.

    3. AmericanPie

Back when I used to drive my truck, my mornings would start as early as 5am, and I'd spend most of the day on the road with a few stops in between to rest and recharge. Those were the days when I had to hustle and work hard to make a living, and I didn't mind the early start as it was just a part of the job.

Now that I'm retired, things are much different. I don't have to follow a strict schedule, and I can wake up at a more leisurely time than before. These days, I find myself waking up at around 7:30am, and to be honest, there's not much point in getting up any earlier. I don't have any pressing deadlines or appointments to meet, and I can take things at my own pace, which is a luxury I appreciate now more than ever.

I really enjoyed listening to We are Notts on BBC Radio Nottingham. It was a great show that captured the highs and lows of our journey from the heartbreak of relegation to the joy of promotion. David Jackson did a fantastic job of telling the story with a lot of passion and attention to detail. He interviewed some of the key players and staff who made it happen, and also gave a voice to the loyal fans who stuck with the club through thick and thin. It was a very emotional and inspiring programme that made me proud to be a Magpie. Well done, David and BBC Radio Nottingham!

  10. Since his arrival, Jodi Jones has been nothing short of a game changer. His quality on the pitch has been evident in every match he’s played. He has brought a new level of skill and energy to the team, and his performances have been consistently impressive. His talent in generating opportunities and delivering goals has made him a priceless addition to the squad, and his input has significantly driven their achievements.

Jones has garnered a lot of attention due to his impressive talent and commitment to his craft. He has received praise from both fans and critics and is widely considered to be a rising star in his field. With his hard work and dedication, Jones has the potential to become one of the top players in the industry. He has quickly become a fan favourite, with supporters eagerly anticipating his next move on the pitch. Jones is very dedicated to his work, always looking to improve and be the best he can be in every game he plays. His impact on the team has been undeniable, and he continues to be a key player in their success.

I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on whether Jodi Jones will sign for Notts on a permanent deal? If so, how long do you think he would sign for?

His performance with Coventry was impressive, and upon entering the game against Chesterfield, he exuded that same determination to contribute and help his team succeed. Naturally, the question arises whether he will continue in the same vein, and while I sincerely hope he does, it's difficult to predict. Undoubtedly, such talent would pique the interest of rival clubs as well.

    3. KingMaynard

      KingMaynard

From what I see, he's still talking to Notts on social media, which could mean he may sign with us. However, Jodi Jones seems to be in high demand by many clubs, including us. This means other clubs may make better offers we can't match, making it hard to get him. We need to be careful and realistic about our chances, and understand what we can do about it.

  11. I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) that we can now have seven players on the bench next season which will be a lot better because we’ll be able to have a goalkeeper on the bench, I’m always really nervous when Slocombe gets injured although schmichael Doyle did ok didn’t he? 🤣

Having 7 substitutes will make life a bit easier for Williams. It will give him more options during games and we may see players rotating between starting and coming on from the bench more frequently. It’s something the National League needs to modernise.

    3. AmericanPie

      AmericanPie

Firstly, it allows the manager more flexibility when it comes to team selection. With two additional substitutes, the manager has more options in terms of tactics and can make changes depending on the match situation. This can help to keep the opposition guessing and give the team a better chance of winning the game.

Secondly, having extra substitutes provides opportunities for young or inexperienced players to gain valuable game time. This can benefit both the team and the player, as they may be able to gain more experience and improve their skills.

Finally, having more substitutes ensures that all players can be rotated and given rest if needed. This can help to prevent injuries and keep players fresh throughout the season, which can ultimately lead to better performances and results.

It already is @Chris, my iFollow app (I subscribed for radio coverage) carries the tagline "the home of PiesPlayer". So all the PiesPlayer videos and highlights will be available on iFollow, and you'll be able to choose what kind of subscription you want and whether you want streaming.

I've had a look at Luton's offering for this season, they charged 140 pounds for a video season pass for overseas fans and 45 pounds for the (frankly pointless) commentary and highlights package in the UK (most matches aren't streamed in the UK due to the 3pm Saturday blackout and the Sky broadcasting deal). The good news is that they stream midweek matches that are not broadcast live on Sky for 10 pounds apiece in the UK too, so you shouldn't miss out entirely.

  13. Morning all, it’s a lovely start to the weekend, how are we all? Has anyone got any special plans for the weekend?

This morning I’m off to Long Eaton to do a 5k Park Run, I try to get to do it every Saturday, it’s great for mental health, you get a bar code and get timed how fast you do it. You can run as fast as you want or just walk the course if you want, no one comes last as they have tail walkers, there will be around 400 there of all abilities, ages, shapes and sizes, there’s even a chap called Harold who is over 90 years old who walks the course with his sticks.

I usually do the course in around 32-34 minutes the fastest do it in around 15 mins and the slowest in around an hour.

When I get back our youngest grandson is paying us a visit, so he’ll keep us busy. Tomorrow we are having a bbq, summer has arrived.

    Whats everyone else up to?

I may not have much to contribute at the moment, and I certainly don't want to sound repetitive, but I eagerly anticipate sharing my insights in the upcoming discussions. Although I have plenty to attend to at home, I have embraced the role of a supervisor, allowing others to handle the tasks at hand.

I don’t believe we should be too critical about the drinking. Let them have fun and as long as nothing happens that could cause problems, then it’s really just them letting off steam after having such a successful season.

I’ve seen some videos of the players celebrating after the promotion, but it doesn’t bother me at all. This season was a one-off and so is any drinking. I’m sure Luke Williams will know how to handle it and what to say if anything is needed. They deserve to enjoy this moment after all they’ve been through.

Based on the comments, it seems that Ruben's excessive drinking has raised concerns. While celebrating and indulging in a few drinks is understandable, it appears that Ruben might have overdone it. Such behaviour can potentially cause a multitude of issues. It's important for players to enjoy themselves responsibly and exercise moderation during celebrations, ensuring that it doesn't lead to any adverse consequences.

The area looks completely different now and I’m not sure if the changes are for the better. In my opinion, some of the older buildings were more attractive than many of the new ones. Judging from the picture, I can’t imagine people parking in town like they used to.

Observing historical photographs of Nottingham evokes nostalgic memories of my upbringing in this vibrant city. Over the years, as I matured, a multitude of transformations occurred, altering its landscape exceedingly. When I revisited the city a few years prior, I was astonished by the extent of these changes. The bustling atmosphere seemed overwhelming for the relatively modest size of Nottingham.

If there was serious interest in Macaulay Langstaff, I imagine the Nottingham Post would have reported on it. It’s more likely that clubs are scouting him and considering making an offer. Once one bid comes in, it could trigger a bidding war. Wouldn’t that be great?

    3. SpellbindingCaskey

      SpellbindingCaskey

I don’t believe Macaulay Langstaff will be leaving anytime soon. I think it’s just people trying to scaremonger and deceive others in order to get clicks. While I don’t doubt that there is serious interest in him, I do doubt that anyone is close to making an offer for him.

    4. AmericanPie

      AmericanPie

Selling Langstaff following the previous season would undoubtedly be a significant blunder, regardless of the potential transfer fee. Although finding a replacement for Wootton appeared challenging, the team eventually managed to overcome it. However, parting ways with their star forward after achieving promotion could lead to a disheartened squad and a highly detrimental atmosphere.

  16. I’ve not been on here for a while but after @Chris and @liampie reached out I thought long and hard and here I am. I’m sorry to Chris and Liam that I didn’t respond positively, I’ve not been in a particularly good place of late.

With the new season approaching and back in the league I’m looking forward to chatting football with you all and renewing my banter with my old sparring partner @super_ram, how are you my old mate?

It’s great to have you back, @Fan of Big Tone! The world seemed somewhat incomplete without you. Your contributions were missed, and we are all thrilled to know that everything is okay now. When I first joined, I had found your perspectives captivating, and your character intriguing. The mystery behind your persona was incredibly captivating, and that unforgettable episode of Meet the Fans that you did was a classic PON moment that still resonates. Your return is a breath of fresh air, and we look forward to hearing more from you soon. Welcome back!

Thank you @AmericanPie I’m still an international man of mystery and will remain so 😆, it’s great to see a lot of the old names that I remember from way back, thanks to you and everyone for the warm welcome back.

Why was Tony, the international man of mystery, always the life of the party in London?

Because, @Fan of Big Tone had a "licence to thrill" and his humour was always on His Majesty's Secret Service!

  17. So, I've been mostly reading the site since 2019. I've noticed other members returning and decided to give it another try. I enjoy the site and never intended to cause drama. It was frustrating when someone commented that we were on drugs.

I'm more mature now and while I don't think the comment should have been made, the fan did apologise and I accept that. I should have ignored it and continued posting on the forum.

This isn't an announcement, just a note to say that @NottsTastic and I are back. We hope you'll welcome us. I've changed my name from KingVanaramaPie to KingWilliams. I dare to use the manager's name for once - something I wouldn't have done before! No way! I'd have had to keep changing it.

It's great to be back, and from now on, let's concentrate on sharing posts and enjoying a good laugh together. Honestly, the majority of the comments I've seen have been fantastic, and none have prompted me to question them. You can count on my respect, as well as that of others in our lively community.

It was quite an interesting scene during that free kick, which had everyone wondering what the player was up to. It almost looked like he wanted to take a seat on the ball, and in doing so, he clumsily handed it into the net. The funny bounce that led to Ruben Rodrigues’ goal was quite embarrassing, to say the least. With such a display of ineptitude, it’s safe to say that Chesterfield fans must have heaved a huge sigh of relief upon his exit from the club. Honestly speaking, why anyone would want a player who looks like a serial killer having a bad day, wearing comedy clown gloves, and continually falling apart on the pitch is beyond me. It's almost painful to watch, and I can’t help but feel sorry for Scunthorpe!

I remember meeting him at the YoungPies Christmas event back in 2018. Despite appearing a bit grumpy, he was actually quite nice, polite, and friendly. However, later that same season, when my dad and I met him again, he didn't seem to remember me. He didn't sign my autograph book and even used some inappropriate language towards my dad when he reminded him that I was just a young fan. Since then, I haven't liked him much, and I feel like he deserves the consequences of his actions.

    4. JIMBO

      JIMBO

He has been known to take credit for accomplishments but behaves rudely when things don't go his way. In my opinion, he bears a significant responsibility for the downfall of Notts County, as he did not have the necessary level of skill and experience. This was apparent to anyone who observed his performance, regardless of whether we were playing against his team. Given his salary, it seems unjustifiable to continue employing him when a more competent goalkeeper could fill the position and contribute to the team's success.

The scenes of coming home after a big win are truly unforgettable. It's amazing to see the way that players and fans come together in celebration, and it's moments like this that can really help to build a strong bond between the club and its supporters. If clubs want to get their fans on board and drum up excitement about upcoming games, then moments like these are absolutely the way forward. There's something magical about seeing players and fans alike so overjoyed and united in their passion for the game, and it's hard not to feel inspired and uplifted by it all. I hope that we'll see many more moments like this in the future, and that they continue to remind us all of the magic and camaraderie that football can bring to our lives.

My dad drove me down to the event, but it was rather difficult for me to see much. Some people were constantly jostling and bumping into me, so my dad mentioned that we would attempt to meet the players in the future. Although I was a bit disheartened, it was lovely to see the fans rejoicing with the players in the video. I do hope that the club would consider the experiences of fans my age and younger in the future.

    4. JIMBO

What amazing scenes they were! It was truly an incredible experience to be a part of something like that. To see the club finally return all of the support that the fans have been giving them through all of their struggles over the seasons was truly special. This journey has been one for the books, and the ending was nothing short of magnificent. And now, it's even more exciting to think about what's to come. With League Two up next, who knows what kind of success the team might find there? There's a whole lot of potential for this club yet, and I can't wait to see what happens next!

  20. What do you guys think about this?

Feels like they've underestimated Notts and not been prepared for such an occasion.

As you can imagine it hasn't gone down too well on social media.

The decision to prevent a city centre celebration, in my opinion, was a missed opportunity. The celebration could have potentially boosted the local economy by generating income for the city's bars, pubs and food establishments. It's unfortunate that they didn't consider the positive impact that the celebration could have had on the community. Perhaps they underestimated the passion and enthusiasm of fans and underestimated the importance of communal celebration after a significant event. It's a shame, but there may still be opportunities for different types of celebrations in the future.

They've missed the boat, it's all a bit pointless now. In July we'll all be thinking of next season, and some of our promotion heroes might have moved on by then. Very poor.

@DangerousSausage: This is why we should host our own open day. It would benefit the club to save no thank you to Nottingham City Council and just proceed with something in the new season.

When we won League Two we had a brilliant open day before the first League One campaign.

If the club did their homework, they could turn the day into a profit by changing vendors to be present. Or, they could just do it for free, but I would imagine drinks, food etc would be a popular selling point.

It’s a positive message from the owners, presented in a way that keeps us informed about what’s happening. It’s also nice to see them giving credit to everyone for the amazing season. I hope one of them will provide updates like Jason Turner did, unless they hire a new CEO. I feel it would be beneficial for them to be a bit more involved.

I truly cannot express my gratitude and admiration for our club owners enough, as they have consistently ensured the smooth running of Notts County with its continued success as their primary goal. It is unfortunate that I haven't had the chance to convey my appreciation face-to-face. However, their preference to not engage in social media or engage in online forums reflects their focus on what truly matters – steering our club towards greater heights.

It is truly heartening to see the owners share an optimistic outlook on the upcoming season while also reflecting on the past campaign. Just like their players, they too deserve a well-earned break from their responsibilities at Notts. We all eagerly anticipate what the next season will bring and wish them the best of luck.
