  • The move to Rochdale is beneficial for both Notts and Tiernan Brooks. I believe his time in the Irish league boosted his confidence, which is crucial. However, Rochdale will be a bigger challenge that will test his readiness for regular first team football. I don’t think Notts has given up on him, as I’ve seen mentioned. I believe he’s gaining the right experience that will allow him to demonstrate his skills.

This is a great loan move. If the club plans for him to be the future number one, then playing time is important. Rochdale seems like a good club for him to gain more experience. Playing in the Irish League will have helped him, but experiencing different levels at a young age can only be beneficial. I hope he gets plenty of minutes.

I'll start you off with mine.

There are so many to choose from but my favourite is "The Goodies", slapstick at its best, utterly silly and ridiculous that you could never stop laughing.

Here's a flavour.

He might be involved with a bad group, but it’s good that the situation has been handled and the artefact has been recovered. Once in the hands of greedy individuals, it’s easy for such items to disappear, even if the culprits are apprehended.

Please don't, this is @cheeky~k8's favourite new show and I think it highlights how vein people can be.

Everyone as a group works together, behind the scenes in smaller groups or one to one they call each other. It's very annoying to me, there are elements which are interesting, but the show isn't something I would commit to watching. It feels like wasted time, watching people try to outsmart each other. The guy who was being singled out a few episodes back, who got aggressive with his voice - I just wanted to tell him to shut up, the way he would over talk others and bad mouth people in the kitchen.

Its not my fave show, it appears on usually after something ive watched or just put the tv on in the background as i'm in and out the room.

It is full of strange people though ????

i have seen a few episodes and i do think its interesting. mostly the aspect of people playing off each other and how this is making people either suspect the wrong person as a traitor or a traitor fooling others that they are a faithful. it reminds me of the game among us.

The non defending or taking responsibility for their 5th????

  • What concerns me is the disgusting behaviour of the Grimsby player who thrust himself onto the grass without first asking the blades of grass first. That's one of the worst worm attempts I have ever seen; it looks so awkward. Great goal!

Today was the first time I had watched the highlights of the game.

I'm not sure why I put it off, although I had seen Grimsby goals as I wanted to see why people were blaming Aidan Stone for most of them (mostly social media). There's not much he could do, though he does seem easily beaten when the ball is placed high into the corners, but that's the nature of the beast for keepers who aren't agile enough to leap from top post to post.

The defending was woeful, so easy to call out.

i am not critising luke williams but perhaps he reached a point where the focus was a bit more attacking minded than defending to the point something neded to change to bring back that balance? i am hoping stuart maynard identifies the lapse in our defending and can bring a better standard out. we have good players, who can defend.

Northampton 1 Notts County 1, March 1971 In black and white. Just footage of the Notts goal, but what a goal.

A typical headed goal from a Notts County great Tony Hateley, with an assist by Brian Stubbs. Tony was one of the best headers of a ball in Footballing history. He came back to Notts to help Notts get promoted, and he did just that.Β

The match against Stockport is postponedΒ

Β

I'm disappointed that the match has been called off, however it does give Stuart more time with the players before the next scheduled match, which will be at home to Barrow on the 27th.Β

Steve can now work with his players on the training ground which will help our new Head Coach to determine how we line up & whether he will make small changes to our tactics for the match.

So for me this is a big positive even though it's disappointing that today's match won't go ahead.

it gives stuart maynard and his coaching team more time, i am not too fussed. i am more bothered by the complaints directed at the club because i dont think for a second we would choose to not want to play a game or mess our own fans around. we will lose money in the gates due to this, something we would not want.

focus now must be on preparing for next saturday.

Norwich City 1 Notts County 2 Division 1 Nov 1982 featuring Gordon Mair and Trevor Christie, with assists from John Chidozie.

Β

mair almost did not score but managed to get the ball under control. a bit scrappy and poor defending from norwich. the second goal for us again showed persistence in a scrappy situation.

After some feedback, I have decided to shake the forum categories up and structure things differently.

I will be amending each section's description to make it clearer what should be posted within each area, as a means to remove any confusion.

Also, we could consider creating forums for different sports apart from football.

Should we opt for a general sports forum or split them up?

I'm still very much in the process, but as always feedback is important. ????

  • I use the dashboard, but I also look at all activity and the forum. At the moment, I read more than I post. I reckon the Pride of Nottingham is first-rate with the articles they publish. The forum layout was alright before, but the changes now make more sense.

My default is the dashboard so maybe I miss some good stuff on the home page!

i do a mix of things to find content, but the articles put out by @ChrisΒ and the fan written features are very good. i think we do need to encourage ourselves to spend our time on site more productively and at times step out of the normal browsing habits. that way you can find new experiences.

i am really excited by how the community is coming along, as you have said its the pon family but it includes you too. :)Β

the video could have been cut to the final minute and the message would be the same without the scaremongering part. i do get that some people need that though, they need to be awoken. the biggest threat to us out side of global warming is how dumb some people are getting. the woke brigade and the cancel culture, common sense becoming less and less.

every game is important so i dont read too much into what looks like a difficult run, i try to take games by game and i hope stuart maynard shares a similar approach. we are good enough to secure our place in the playoffs, maybe even push for the automatics. all worrying about big games does is bring in doubt.

The weekend has arrived, what plans have you got? Anything exciting happening in your life? Tell us all about your plans or what you’ve been doing.

We are going to our sons for a Burns Night meal tonight, yes I know it’s not Burns night but we couldn’t do it on the 25th. So we’ll be tucking into Haggis tonight, I don’t think I’ve had it before but I can generally eat anything.

Tomorrow of course I’ll be heading to the match to watch how Notts perform under the new Head Coach. Sunday a day of rest hopefully.

  • Why did you join prideofnottingham.co.uk?

I think I joined back in October. At that time, I found myself reading a lot about Notts online, and I thought the site was worth joining. I had been reading the site for a while, but it was the friendliness that won me over.

What is your main highlight of being a member?

I haven't been here long enough.

How much have you seen PoN grow during your time?

I have seen the site make great progress in 2023. When I first started reading the site in 2015, I felt that the content has improved significantly since then.

As a community, what would you say are the three core values to PoN and why?

It's fair to say that this is a great place for discussion. The friendliness is excellent, and you are made to feel comfortable, which is appreciated. There seems to be a large group very committed to delivering good content, and that's a win-win in my eyes. Excellent quality, dedication, and effort sum things up for me.

    WhyΒ did you join prideofnottingham.co.uk?

I found PON on twitter on the Notts County hashtag. I checked the site out on a few visits and liked what I saw, the great content, the banter, & the interesting reading, so I decided to join.

What is your main highlight of being a member?

I really like the content that is being put out every day. There's always something different to discuss with and exchange opinions with members in a respectful way, that you largely don't get on X & Facebook much of the time.Β

How much have you seen PoN grow during your time?

I haven't been here very long, however I have seen an uptick in the number of visitors since the new year. That bodes well for potential new members.

As a community, what would you sayΒ are the three core values to PoN and why?

When I joined PON I was given a really nice welcome by many members and I realised almost immediately that I was joining a good Community of people all united by their love of our club.

And as a Community I have already seen respect, tolerance and understanding between the members, mixed with fun, banter, & lively debate.

So I would say those are my three core values for this Community, because I've seen it.

  • All depends how deep the frost penetrated. Air temperature is different to ground temperature so I would expect a slow thaw throughout tomorrow. Hopefully it will be on but the ground staff are going to have to be busy and work through the night.

Whilst I can understand some fans concerns that we might not be as bothered about allowing tomorrow to proceed, so that Stuart Maynard has longer with the squad. I personally don't think this is very Notts County.

We have had similar things done to us, and it's annoying.

Our grand staff always do their best to make sure games are playable and the ground is cared for. People are commenting about why the club has taken the covers off, I don't believe they have, and the photo will most likely have been taken at a different point in time (rather than yesterday). They will be off early in the morning and preparation will begin to try to make sure the ground isn't frosted over.

There's little point to delay, plus postponing the game will only make Stockport feel we are scared.

If it does get called off, it will be after a second or third pitch inspection and solely due to the conditions. We'll want Maynard to get to see what the squad has now, so that he can make suggestions on signings. Just my thoughts.

  • Paul Rideout was sold to help fund the redevelopment of Meadow Lane, among other assets. I was impressed with how we didn't stick with Neil Warnock. I always felt that he could have turned things around, but it wasn't to be. The creation of the Premier League set us back, and it didn't realistically align with what we could achieve, but our ambition wasn't small. It just could have been better balanced. However, this result was one of those memories from that particular era of our club's history.

@Robbie The signing of Agana was a financial disaster...Β

I still loved him as a kid.

I thought he was quite decent in the games I saw, although I was quite impressionable back at that age and I know my grandfather wasn't his biggest fan. I think it's more the fee we paid, had he come for a lesser fee or maybe on a free, it might reflect better. It's on the person who paid it, Agana always seemed to score when going to matches or played a part in the build up.

Notts County 1 Man United 0 First Division April 1984, featuring Trevor Christie & Ian McParland. A great win over Manchester United at Meadow Lane. Great memories watching this from my regular place on the County Road sideΒ

Iain McCulloch broke his leg in this game which sadly ended his Career.

  • @Piethagoram i read one time when @ChrisΒ or @Joe JonesΒ [i forget if it was before jj left] posted about this as an on this day, someone mentioned that it caused iain mcculloch to retire earlier and how he was not the same after. a few others seemed to suggest that it was done on purpose, but looking at the video it does seem accidental.

some of those saying it was done on purpose suggested the keeper that fouled him was known for his aggressive play.

it looked like a freak accident that should have seen the united keeper red carded.

I wouldn't say Bailey intended to cause injury, but I definitely felt he tried to assert himself. He was known for being quick to charge and often took out players in the process. I remember feeling really sorry for Iain McCulloch; he had a great season up to that point. It was one of the worst events to happen, despite the score being such a positive result. It was hard to celebrate knowing that McCulloch seemed to be out for some time.

Ipswich 1 v Notts County 3. League Division 1 30th Jan 1982.Β A great win for Notts against a very strong Ipswich side. The Notts goals were scored by Gordon Mair, Brian Kilcline, & Paul Hooks.
