  2. Quite a cool way to look at the season.  Things I'd forgotten - Wrexham's slow start, York's collapse, Southend's up and down year (they should challenge next year), Oldham's recovery from an awful first half.

I watched the video showing the National League teams' positions throughout the season and it's really cool! It's fascinating to see how teams have progressed over time, and the video's production quality is top-notch. As a fan of the National League, I highly recommend checking it out if you get the chance. It's a great way to stay up-to-date on the season's progress and get a better understanding of how the league table has evolved.

It's a breath of fresh air to see two teams gain promotion that truly deserved it, isn't it? The animated table really highlights just how well we started the season and managed to maintain that pace, something that's not always easy to do. It's no wonder that we were among those teams that deserved it the most. When we play with conviction and purpose, we can really be a force to be reckoned with. It's heartening to see that hard work and dedication can pay off in the end. It's also a good reminder that we have to keep our eye on the prize and not let complacency set in. One thing's for sure, though, with the right attitude and mindset, there's no limit to what we can achieve. Here's to another successful season ahead!

It's brilliant to see the fans in Germany being so supportive and their clubs potentially offering help in future. It's true that sports can really bring people together. It'd be lovely if UK clubs could do the same, but picturing Arsenal fans in a room might just end up like Arsenal Fan TV! It's still worth considering though, to boost unity among fans.

German fans really know how to support each other, they're a great example of loyal supporters. It's really commendable how they take care of fans who are struggling with depression.

    4. Chris

      Chris

Well we've seen the atmosphere of German football games, it makes you appreciate that all the more and to say they look after their own. It's something some of the Notts trolls could learn about, instead of trying to pick fights and resorting to being pathetic on social media. Mental illness is a serious issue, but sometimes it seems like people only offer support during times when it gains them recognition. Increasing awareness is crucial, but it's important to ensure that those who suffer from mental health issues receive the proper care and support they need.

I used to spend hours on Reddit talking to people in subs related to depression, suicide etc.

Supporting a football team is a great way to take a break from our daily lives. However, I know some fans that were really upset about our team getting relegated. They were concerned about the club's ability to recover from the drop, and it weighed heavily on their minds. I have always tried to support fans.

  3. I am certain that we have all encountered football enthusiasts or individuals who have little knowledge about Notts County, which is a recurrent circumstance for me. I assume it is a one-of-a-kind experience for all of you residing in the United Kingdom. I'm intrigued as to how you acquaint people who are unaware of Notts County with the club?

Do you have any particular strategies for introducing Notts County to new fans, such as sharing memorable moments in the club's history or highlighting its notable players and successes?

How do you persuade potential fans to support a club that may not be one of the most well-known in the UK?

there are a few foreign workers at my work place, i have tried to encourage them to come support notts. they dont speak english very well but are passionate about football. i remember a group of us talking about football, one of them thought we only had one club. i told him about notts, he thought it was nottingham forest. i offered to pay for them to come to meadow lane when the low tickets were on offer but i think they felt nervous.

every now or then i will tell them about notts and they are picking it up. the one who thoughts notts were forest, he now knows of macaulay langstaff and claps every time hes mentioned. :D

Oh blimey, it's quite surprising, isn't it? Even folks you meet at work sometimes don't have a clue. I remember when my workplace offered a chance to watch a local team play, and some Nottingham locals thought Notts County were the cricket club! When I told them it's my team, one person even said they thought they were more northern than Forest. 😂 I do me best to politely educate people about how Notts County is the original Nottingham club, and that they're not about cricket. Gotta spread the word, eh?

    3. Chris

      Chris

I have always tried to make sure that people who follow football, yet live away from their club give Notts a chance. I worked with a lot of Polish people awhile ago; they always spoke highly of football and I suggested that they should go to Notts.

Their background information on Notts was a little basic to say the least. A co-worker who is on here and is of the red side - would pipe up about going to see real football if he overheard me talking about them going to Notts.

I sell the togetherness of the majority of fans, that we would do right by fellow fans and that we're a very friendly club.

Forest doesn't allow children under the age of 4 to attend games, but a family friend named Adam went to at least one game with his family in the family stand.

I could tell some stories about being asked what shirt I am wearing by actual people who should know better and, whilst it's funny. I tend to ensure they get told off for asking such a silly question. :D

  4. I’ve decided to abstain from alcohol for a while, I need to lose some weight before my holiday next month when I know I will pile lots more weight on eating good food and drinking.

So for the next few weeks it’s no alcohol, smaller meal portions and more salads, at the moment I am 13 stone 2 lbs I want to drop to at least 12 stone 7 lbs, lower if I can.

Wish me luck I’ll let you know how I get on.

Jimmy Knowles did well for Notts, I know he had hoped Mansfield would allow him to join us and there was serious interest from Notts. Yet when a young striker does well with a rival team, that managed to get the best out of it. It's unlikely that they won't give him a chance.

I don't think Mansfield would get the best out of strikers that we do; we played a certain way and Mansfield are completely different to that.

Good luck to him at Boston. I recently went past their ground, and it looks nice from afar.

All the best, Jimmy!

There's surely more that could be done by the EFL and FA to stop things like this happening.

It's frustrating to see when clubs haven't got financial means to pay players and staff then are faced with further punishment financially, the thing they're struggling with in the first place.

Docking of points is justified, as it prevents clubs getting further in debt with a financial punishment.

But on the other hand, there are Premier League clubs that overspend but fail to receive any sort of punishment for the similar things EFL teams get punished of.

Does anyone know what kind of fees the club is paying agents? I suppose when the Trews thought it meant savings, you still have to pay a good player and their agent. However, I am interested in what sort of fees we are paying them.

I liked Aaron Collins; his turn of pace and reading of the game was quite good when he came here on loan. It did seem weird that we were loaning a player from Newport, but the same could be said when we took Jimmy Knowles in on loan. Both strikers looked very promising, Collins looked a lot more adapted to life in the Football League.

Aaron Collins appeared capable of improving and scoring goals. As one of the younger strikers the club has had on loan, he seemed like he could go further. His pace, skill and natural finishing ability were a delight.

I think Jodi Jones will be offered a contract. Norwich see Mair as one for the future so they are unlikely to sell him but I think they would let him come to County on a season long loan.

    3. AmericanPie

      AmericanPie

I reckon Kyle Cameron and Aaron Nemane will sign new deals too. They've both been playing well and seem happy in our team. As for Sam Slocombe, I can see him finding a new League Two club as well, it might be the right time for him to move on.

Jim O'Brien is a tough one to call - I hope he stays with us for another season, but I've read those coaching rumours as well. It's understandable if he wants more time with his young lad. Ruben Rodrigues, fingers crossed, should commit for one more season. I don't think he's in talks with other clubs just yet, and Notts will likely have been keeping the conversation going during his time away.

Those are my thoughts on the matter, let's see what happens!

    4. Chris

      Chris

@AmericanPie I can see your prediction and thoughts coming true, I don't think Kyle Cameron will leave. He's settled, and I am not sure any clubs that might be interested can match or better what we offer him right now.

Ruben Rodrigues is the main one, whilst I do agree that he may sign a new deal. I could see something like what happened with Cal Roberts occurring during the season.

In any case, we really need the majority of the players offering new deals to agree upon them.

We need a centre back with pace, hopefully someone who can play as the left wing back too.

Up top, we could do with another option, counting on three forwards would be a bit risky in League Two - especially with all the cup games that will be there. I strongly believe that acquiring Jodi Jones would provide excellent cover in the forward position. He can either side of the flank and can play behind the strikers.

I think we need another midfielder, especially if Jim O'Brien retires. I hope he doesn't, as I have a lot of respect for him, and feel it would befit to see his career come full circle at Notts' he's been a very loyal player for Notts. Also, if Ed Francis leaves, it would need to see strength. In my opinion, Frank Vincent is likely to stick around.

I would like to see a couple of youth team players be added for depth, which is a reason we plan to include them if we needed to call upon them.

At the most, Notts only needs to sign 5 players, at least 3. As I say, now is the time to excel our youth team players and give faith to them. If they're not good enough, the club should stop offering pro deals as it's just a waste of time. If there's a general belief that they can come good, then I am fine with it. In fact, I want to see youth players getting more than a handful of games otherwise they won't progress with us.

    3. liampie

      liampie

it really depends on who stays and who leaves due to their contract expiring. if ruben rodrigues stays, then i agree with @Chris. if he goes then i think that position needs strengthening but i would give sam austin the chance to start there more often.

    4. AmericanPie

      AmericanPie

The way I see it, Notts will indeed need a good depth and cover to ensure success this season. Bringing in a young striker could serve as an excellent backup option, allowing them to gain experience and feature more prominently in cup games. Additionally, signing one or two central midfielders, a centre-back aged between 20-24, and a high-quality left wing-back would benefit not only the team's balance but also help bring out the best in Adam Chickens.

I’d actually be quite happy to see Curtis Thompson back at Meadow Lane. He’s still got a lot to offer and has a great attacking engine. Sure, it might raise some questions about where he’d fit in the squad, but I seem to recall him being shoved into defense and doing a pretty good job. Versatile players like him are worth their weight in gold when it comes to squad depth.

    3. BromPie

      BromPie

It has always been delightful to watch young Curtis develop into a player and I thought he performed very well. Thus, I am surprised that Wycombe have parted ways with him. It appears that it was more his decision, as there was speculation that Bolton were interested in him.

I can recall how supporters were divided in their opinions about Curtis Thompson during his time at Notts, but he's certainly flourished since leaving the club. Personally, though, I get the impression that he'll end up with a League One team instead – his talent and hard work have definitely not gone unnoticed!

I’m not bothered either, it was the best attempt at a crossbar challenge I’ve ever seen. The shot was struck perfectly and it’s a shame it didn’t find its way into the back of the net. I would have loved to see Ross Fitzsimons’ reaction to that - it would have been priceless.

Blimey, that was certainly a bonkers penalty, but I don't reckon it was a bad choice at all! If it had found the back of the net, everyone would be singing his praises. John's been doing it precisely because it flummoxes the keepers, so he's well aware of the risks. No point dwelling on it - at the end of the day, Notts came out victorious, and that's what truly counts!

i also remember watching a youtube video that asked interviewed clubs where they had appointed black managers, they always said they went for the best candidate. i remember there was an ex footballer from the 90s, i think it might have been trevor sinclair who was trying to make everything seem racial. though whoever it was said something that stuck with me, he basically said very few go into management or coaching due to their families lifestyle. Wanting to be close to family etc, that the Caribbean culture is to work hard and enjoy retirement.

if you are good enough, good luck getting hired. just don't stop applying.

if i was looking for a job tomorrow and had 50 rejects, i would not say they judged me based on my autism.

    3. Chris

      Chris

There's an element of people overlooking black managers, but I don't think it's down to racism most of the time.

A lot of ex footballers like Paul Ince and Sol Campbell do live off their reputation. I must give credit to Sol for his attempt to break into the lower tiers of football. However, I recall him expressing his frustration about being overlooked by Premier League/Championship teams and attributing it to the colour of his skin.

Personally, I think Gifton Noel Williams has done what many won't and stepped to a level that is willing to give him a chance. Hopefully, he continues to build a name for himself because I really don't think most clubs operate as with hidden agendas.

I completely understand where you're coming from. Critiquing someone's hair or a single tooth is quite trivial and, quite frankly, irrelevant to their abilities as a professional. It's unfortunate that such comments are made, even if not intentionally racist, as it detracts from the person's talents and capabilities. Every manager will indeed encounter strange requests or unwarranted criticism, but it's essential for them to remain focused on their coaching and improvement. As the saying goes, success speaks for itself – and once someone stops paying heed to trivial criticisms, others will eventually give them the respect they deserve.

Ah, Vicky McClure was on site filming the TV series when she was watching Notts?

I wonder if they will sneak a scene in where she's looking at her laptop, with a quiet football match being heard in the background. 🤣

It's absolutely lovely to see Vicky McClure displaying such enthusiasm and ardour for her team. I reckon she'd have been chuffed to bits to be at Wembley rather than on the acting set. Her passion truly shines, and it's quite endearing, isn't it?

@AmericanPie, I'm unable to access the link you've shared, mate. Could you be a sport and provide a quick summary of the main points he mentioned? It would be incredibly helpful. Thanks a bunch!

  8. Today I spent some time updating my display picture and cover images on social media. I felt inspired by a previous design of mine and thought it was time to refresh things up. Although I'm not keen on making changes without a purpose, occasionally refreshing the cover image and then returning to the primary design seems like a wise decision.

If you don't use Twitter, and feel encouraged to join in with the questions or read what others might have said. You can view the graphics on the links below, in a few days I'll show you what inspired me. 👍🏻

What do you think of the new images? Do you like them? What stands out to you about them?

Thank you, everyone for the kind words.

On 22nd August 2016, I uploaded one of my favourite pieces of graphical work. I captioned it: "Infinite memories, thousands of fans, but only one Notts County!" While I don’t judge my work based on likes, it does make me happy to see it do well. This specific post garnered 80 likes and 6 love reactions. I invest a lot of time in creating things like this; it’s not a 10 or even 30-minute job. Anyway, here’s the inspiration behind it.

I have many things which I have done, that I simply do not have the time to upload to the site's wallpaper section. However, I will try to find time as otherwise I will have just wasted time.

These are fantastic. @Chris, do you still create the graphics that go inside the signature here? I would be interested in obtaining one if you do.

Of course, I am always happy to help members with signatures or any type of graphics.

Excellent job on the cover image and display picture. I’m really fond of the new main PON image. It appears very sophisticated and the display picture is outstanding.

The cover and display images are absolutely brilliant, they truly encapsulate the essence of the content, and engaging for the audience. Excellent job!

  9. What’s new in your world? What’s on your mind?

I thought a general chat would be good to strike up a conversation since we are out of season. With the tumbleweed blowing around as silent as King Charles gratitude towards his civil servants. It would be good to see what’s new, or just to hear what members want to get off their chests.

I love summer, unfortunately it never seems to last as long as winter, which is totally depressing with long, cold, dark nights.

I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of warmth and sunshine for quite some time now. Unfortunately, living in the UK means that we only get one or two summery days, and that's it. This is why I always choose to go on holiday to warmer places. It seems like England is becoming just as bad as Scotland for the persistent rain and unpredictable weather. Here's to hoping for an extended spell of sunshine this summer!

It's quite remarkable how in this region, the heat is a seemingly ever-present factor in daily life. The relentless sun seems to constantly scorch the earth, making it necessary for everyone to don not only a hat but also carry a bottle of water with them. This is especially true during the rather overbearing late afternoons, when venturing out without these essentials becomes almost unbearable. It's interesting to note that even when rain does make an occasional appearance, it hardly lasts for more than an hour, leaving little reprieve from the sweltering conditions. In the rare instances of all-day showers, it feels as if nature has decided to bestow its kindness onto the parched earth. Adapting to this climate requires constant adjustments and forethought to ensure a comfortable existence.

  10. Does anyone watch Team Talk? It’s a show dedicated to all three Nottinghamshire teams hosted by Mark Shardlow, Charlie McParland is a regular panellist then they have guests, sometimes fans, sometimes ex footballers etc. Our own @Chris has been a panellist.

Anyway this week Charlie said he was disgusted that the Council didn’t hold a civic reception for Notts when they did for F*r*st, the F*r*st fan on the panel said it wasn’t the same because the r*ds went into the Premiership, Charlie (bless him) had a bit of a go at him and got quite agitated, I think they cut some of it out. 😂

I’ve got a lot of time for Charlie McParland, he speaks a lot of sense and is very knowledgeable about the game. He also doesn’t suffer fools and speaks his mind.

It appears that I might need to invest in a VPN provider, but I will verify if I can stream the episodes online. @Fan of Big Tone, you may not be the only one in that case. We could initiate a Team Talk review club on here. 😂

I'm a regular viewer of Team Talk and I usually catch it via the Notts TV website as I'm getting myself ready for work or on my way there. The original host was spot on and added great value to the show, however, I'm not quite sure who's hosting it nowadays. Nonetheless, I still enjoy the show and find it very informative about all things Notts.
