Iโ€™ve just watched a video of fans celebrating the England goal in the nest, it seems the latest fad is to chuck your beer up in the air. Iโ€™d have thought the price they pay for it they wouldnโ€™t want to throw it away or is the beer that bad?

Iโ€™m glad I wasnโ€™t there, I donโ€™t fancy getting a beer shampoo.ย

We come to game nine of the County Championship for Nottinghamshire as the take on Lancashire at Southport, starting at 11am.

Notts have won the toss and will bowl. Notts team ????ย

  • It was a pleasant catch-up, and it was nice to hear his opinions on the new arrivals. I would have preferred if this had been done after all the recruitment was completed, but thereโ€™s always the possibility that the club will conduct another. Iโ€™m curious to know Stuart Maynardโ€™s views on all the new signings. Iโ€™m delighted to see him looking cheerful and better prepared!

Get behind the club, and hopefully Stuart Maynard. What do we have to lose?

I accept opinions, but I find it sad how some people are still criticising Stuart Maynard. Do these fans just want to be right for the sake of credibility? There's no need for negativity now.

Hmm, not sure about Thursday night fixtures.

Unfortunately I also have a clear memory of that match. In fact I don't think Peter Bonetti ever played for England Again. I know Bobby Charlton said in his Autobiography on the flight back home from Mexico, Alf Ramsey came and sat with him and said Thankyou for all your efforts for England. He said I knew then my England career was over. Another Quote about the same match came from Franz Beckenbauer the German Captain. England were 2-0 at half time and Ramsey took Bobby Charlton off, to rest him for the Semi Final. We couldn't believe it Charlton was running everything in Mid Field and England take their Best Player Off, this gave us the advantage and determination to go on and Win The Match. Which they Did.

Save of the tournament. It's definitely up there and in the conversation for one of the greatest match saving saves of all time. It's remarkable how some people are now re-analysing it and downplaying just how good the save was in the importance of the occasion.ย

As far as comparing it to Gordon Banks v Brazil, I see where people are coming from but wouldn't put it in the same category myself.ย

I think who ever wrote the Piece about the Save Got a Wee Bit Over Excited. And I think there are other Saves available to watch on You tube which are as Good. Like it's been Stated it was the headed Save and the Excitement of that the Save which got Turkey through to the next round whichย  perhaps brought out the Banks comparison. But Really there is No Comparison. Despite an Excellent Stop, it's No where near as Good As The Banks One.

Latest from the England Camp. UEFA are looking at a gesture made by Jude Bellingham. Apparently he Grabbed his Crutch in Front of the Slovakia Bench after his Late equalizer in the England vs Slovakia Game. According to him it was an inside Joke aimed at some friends who were in the Crowd. However this isn't the First time he's made the Gesture and if found Guilty he could end up being Fined and Banned.

For Pity's sake Grow Up Bellingham, You're supposed to be a Role Model for young Kids.ย  Not only have You Let Yourself Down England Down, But Those Who Look Up To You. Hang Your Head In Shame.

I don't think Jude Bellingham should have made the gesture, but it's being blown out of proportion

100% agree with this. Shouldn't be blown up as much as it has but I suspect with it being someone like Jude Bellingham, an English player making moves, that's played a part in making it as big as it is.ย

I remember reading about two players in Italy doing the Nazi salute. I don't know if they got banned, but what's worse?

Wayne Hennessey made a Nazi salute but got cleared because he didn't know what the salute was. There's plenty of political/provocative gestures during games in the past some go punished some get cleared.ย

    Hopefully Jude learns from this.ย

    @Chris

Yeah, I remember reading it and thinking he's wormed his way out of that one with an unconvincing lie. I still find it hard to believe how he could have gone his whole life without knowing exactly what that meant.ย

He's finally done it.

The players look really happy to be back for preseason training.,ย

They have much to be happy about.

Six new quality players joining them. A squad to challenge the best teams in the league.

  • I assume the first day back is all about checks and measuring where the players are, maybe some light gym work. Possibly some jog exercises and nothing that would shock them too much, even though they will be in shape - I can imagine there's a lot of recording of dietary and health stats.

By now, I would assume they have kicked the ball around and tried to emerge the new signings.

The first day back can be very exciting, with the club sharing pictures - I am pleased they all looked very determined and happy. Just wait until the actual training starts and you start doing laps at Meadow Lane. ;)ย

We've been surprisingly quiet in terms of posting bits and pieces about the players returning for pre-season... Last season we had lots of videos and pics but it's been very quiet so far this time round. Anyway I noticed a pic from the club website and couldn't quite tell who this was...

    Notts Player.jpg

Is this someone new? Itโ€™s not Alex Bass, itโ€™s not Nick Tsaroulla and I donโ€™t think itโ€™s Matty Platt. The last person with the No.12 squad number was Tiernan, but I donโ€™t think itโ€™s him eitherโ€ฆ Am I wrong though? He looks familiar so have I missed someone completely obvious?

  • I have great admiration for Connell Rawlinson. His decision to work with Notts and to mutually agree on his release I believe allowed this to happen. I'm not sure that he would have been Chester bound otherwise. I really hope he can settle down, get himself on the team sheet and help Chester move forward.

It's a great opportunity for him.

This is a positive move for Chester. Rawloโ€™s addition to the team could make a significant difference. His tall stature could be advantageous. Since his departure, he has quickly managed to get things in order. This swift action leads me to agree more with @Chrisโ€™s viewpoint.

I ponder whether footballers who earn millions regard themselves as fortunate. Regrettably, Tommy Lawton was born too early to receive the earnings he merited. Despite this, he was an exceptional player.

In his twilight years, he should have been treated like royalty. If he were still with us today, things might have been vastly different. Itโ€™s a thought that makes one reflect on the changing times in football.

i went to look for the other parts but could not find anything further on this. it might been wiser to comment them all in a row. i would have liked to understand it more. i will add he seems to have an interesting account.

So this is the crunch time for England. They are Scheduled to play Slovakia in the last 16 of Euro 24 at 5 pm BST on Sunday evening.

Can England get through to the quarter finals? England may have won their group, but they have stuttered through the games they played & flattered to deceive as they really struggled to show any cohesion in those three games.

England will need to up the ante against Slovakia if they are to progress to the next round.

England will be hoping they can.

If England do get through they will meet Switzerland, who impressed against a below par Italy side in their last sixteen match today.

ย

A good insight to what they see as an England tactical issue by Peter Petrov & Hancock Analysis.

It's alright having the best players but should they be placed in the same positions as they are for their clubs just for the sake of it for instance?

Problem is, these players might be playing in similar positions for England but the other players are different, as is the overall balance of the England side, compared to their club side.

So therefore those players may not perform as well as they do for their club side.ย

Do PON members see any tactical issues with the England team that could jeopardise England's chances of going far in Euro 24?ย

There are many headaches for our next game. I hope Luke Shaw is ready to join in. The suspensions will mean changes. I hope England adapts.

Personally, I think Luke Shaw should be sent on the plane home. Hasn't played since February and not played a part in the previous 4 games. We can't be bringing in a player who's had a lack of football like he has into a quarter final match. We've already been underperforming without a semi fit left back.

I would rather see Kane up the field leading the attack and not being in his own penalty area half the time.

England are supposed to have World beating midfield players, so why is the Manager giving Kane, what amounts to be a free role.

Cloughie would say " Young man, I pay you to stick the ball in the net so get up that pitch and do just that, or I'll pay someone else who will"

Fully agree. Let the midfielders do their thing, focus on your own job being up top and get the goals. Shearer has wrote a column on the fact Kane should be staying forward. It's annoying to see how deep he drops.ย

There's been a few comments about how England don't provide enough for him but it's hard to provide a striker who's never in the box to receive the balls.ย

Southgate should be strictly instructing him to stay up and avoid dropping deep but the fact that he drops deep every game speaks volumes that Southgate is allowing him to do this.ย

Either instruct him to stay up top or bring someone like Toney or Watkins to partner him so he can drop deep leaving one player up.ย

Somethingโ€™s got to give, but the new faces could be a boon. If Cole Palmer doesnโ€™t make the team, Iโ€™d be gutted because heโ€™s been exceptional every time heโ€™s played.

Sad to see him go but probably for the best.

  • @super_pieย was telling me about him as we watched Germany vs. Scotland. Supposedly, the German manager told him he was wanted, whereas Gareth Southgate wasn't as bothered. Jake's also mentioned how he's good friends with Jude Bellingham. It's a shame we are losing this type of talent, because he could be making us stronger as a nation.

That said, if it's true that Germany showed more desire for him to play for them - I completely understand.

Would have loved Musiala to have selected England over Germany but unfortunately Germany offered him the opportunity where as England didn't do that. He's a world class talent that's able to showcase his ability for them, I'm not sure he'd have gotten a look in with the England set up as it stands. He'd probably be like Cole Palmer with the ability but only enough to see him sit on the bench and look on. Unfortunately, he probably made the right decision.ย

Nottingham RFC play in the Championship, English Rugby'sย  2nd tier. .

This is the up to date Championship table.
