  1. As a Sheffield Wednesday fan, I’m curious to know how confident Notts County supporters are feeling about their club gaining back-to-back promotions. With a strong squad on paper and the addition of Will Randall, it seems like your club is in a great position. Are you all still feeling the magic from Wembley?

There’s no reason why we can’t believe in our chances! I definitely think Notts are good enough for a top 5 finish. There are some strong clubs at this level, but I believe that the morale and chemistry within our squad right now will help us get results even when conditions are tough - when it’s windy and raining or when we face setbacks and have to fight like we did against Boreham Wood and Chesterfield. I think we’ll be much more competitive against Wrexham this time around, especially at their ground.

I’m feeling confident about our chances, but I’m also aware that there’s still a lot of work to be done and that other clubs are constantly improving their teams. I think we should aim to finish in the top half of the table at the very least. Even if the club doesn’t publicly declare it, I believe they have ambitions for promotion.

I believe we’ll have a good season and that we, as fans, will play an important role in determining where we finish in the league. I hope those who complain when we lose games will focus on the bigger picture instead of declaring the season over after a single defeat. That kind of attitude makes us look extremely bad. If we struggle, I won’t cry or complain about it - instead, I’ll try to offer constructive criticism and support.

  2. According to the latest rumours Nemane is going to either Portsmouth or Cardiff and Cameron is going to Stockport.

Anyone else a bit worried by the lack of news regarding new contracts being signed, I sincerely hope we don’t see most of the side being lured away, I believe we have a real chance of back to back promotions if we keep most of our core players.

These people who are supposed to know everything don't seem to know when the deals will be finalised. But I think I know the reason, let's just say it's ironic. Personally, I think the longer Ruben takes to make his decision, the more time we have to persuade him to stay. But hey, I'm just a young teenager, what do I know?

    4. Simon Clark

One thing worth remembering is that most contracts end on 30 June. So players taking a pay cut would most likely want to stay where they are until then, and clubs giving a payrise will most likely not want to pay the new player in June when they're on holiday.

It won't work for everyone, of course, and a player in demand may well need signing sooner to avoid the risk of losing them, but a lack of activity at this stage isn't anything to worry about.

How desperate are Newport County, to sign a player like Enzio. It would undo a lot of their good work. Enzio would be better at a side like Orient or Stevenage where the defenders are brutes who can handle their own team mates errors.

I  want to thank you for your kind words and support for my team, who faced a tough challenge against Barnsley in the League One playoff final.

Barnsley were a formidable opponent and gave us a hard time throughout the match. They deserved to be in the final and I respect them for their performance. But I’m over the moon that Sheffield Wednesday managed to edge them out with a late goal and secure promotion to the Championship. It was a tense and exciting game, similar to the one Notts County had, and I’m glad we both came out on top.

Well done to both teams and their fans for making it a memorable season!

  4. Hi there Magpie fans,

I just wanted to stop by and send my best wishes for your efforts to return to the Football League. Given your impressive form this season, I don’t believe Notts should miss out on promotion. I’m hoping you’ll be able to make that long-awaited return.

As a fan of Wednesday, I have many fond memories of Meadow Lane and Notts County. I hope you all succeed in gaining promotion to League Two. By the way, Macaulay Langstaff seems like an excellent striker.

  5. There seems to be a lot of talk about David McGoldrick returning to end his career at Notts. Some folk swear blind that it's a done deal. What do you all think?

Personally I'm not sure at all, he just doesn't fit our recruitment strategy and would surely be in demand in League One at least. The bloke was playing and scoring in the Premier League two years ago and just scored 22 times for Derby, so he still has it.

I'm not sure what effect it would have to have a "star" in the dressing room, but then Ameobi was a similar case and did well for us. But now we have Langstaff - who would play? Would we change the formation to accommodate him? Or is he the replacement?

    Thoughts?

Joe Jones used to tell me, if a credible source reports something, mention them as the source. For example, Luke Williams told BBC Radio Nottingham or, The Nottingham Post and the BBC, has reported that David McGoldrick has been offered a contract by Notts County.

      Quote

According to reports, Notts County have made a contract offer to Derby County forward David McGoldrick, with his current deal with the Rams set to expire. McGoldrick impressed for Derby last season after signing from Sheffield United as a free agent last summer.

According to reports, it doesn't give any accountability, it's how rumours and fake news spread.

This is one thing that peeves me, it's lazy, and I am not even trained. Yet I believe in standards because I don't want to mislead people, clearly the Nottingham Post doesn't. It's apparent that it's too much work to do investigation journalism. Yes, the NEP has joined this race. I don't believe it, I won't report on it unless Notts announces him as a signing and that seems unlikely.

    3. Nocturnal-Magpie

      Nocturnal-Magpie

If Jim O'Brien signs, do we really need any more experience? Notts might get one or two seasons out of him before he needs replacing. Why not just sign a younger player and forget about David McGoldrick? As forwards are concerned we already have enough.

    4. allardyces tash

      allardyces tash

I will believe it when I see it, this rumour solely came about due to David’s appearance on Notts TV’s Team Talk. I think we have more chance of signing Charlie McParland!

  6. From the Notts website:

“We have completed the signing of wide player Will Randall on a two-year contract following his departure from Sutton United.

The 26-year-old has been one of the Londoners’ top performers since joining them in 2019, playing a key role in their promotion from the National League and helping them establish themselves in the EFL.

A statement from our board of directors reads: “Will is a player we tried to sign earlier this year, so we’re delighted to eventually bring him to Meadow Lane.

“He’s direct, an excellent set-piece taker and a goal threat who is comfortable on both flanks, while also having the qualities to cover the number-eight role.

“Importantly, Will is also very disciplined out of possession and is a great character who we think will add a lot to the squad.

“He’s known to Luke Williams and Ryan Harley from their time together at Swindon, so we’re very confident he’ll be a brilliant addition.”

It was at Swindon that Randall began his career, graduating from his hometown club’s academy and making several appearances for them in League One.

His potential was clear to see and, after rejecting a bid from AFC Bournemouth, Swindon sold the 18-year-old to Wolves in 2016.

He would go on to sign an extended contract at Molineux, playing for their development squads and picking up more experience with loans at Walsall, Forest Green Rovers and Spanish side FC Jumilla.

After leaving Wolves, he had a short spell with Newport County before joining Sutton ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.”

I am pleased with the signing, but I do understand and agree with the comment about it being a signing fans wouldn’t be that chuffed about due to only finding his feet with Sutton. It should be a good friendly and test for our Notts squad. Both teams are making improvements to their respective teams, so previous games won’t be the same. I have found past games to be unreliable in friendlies. Besides, it all depends on what the manager wants.

    4. Ohh Tommy Johnson

      Ohh Tommy Johnson

I guess the thing is friendlies are there to achieve definite outcomes, the fans wishes probably being the least important.  Teams will be chosen for a variety of reasons, style of play, locality, testing out new things, standards setting etc.  I think last season's match against the lot over the river was there so the players could see what standards they need to aspire to, and proved to them that they could meet those standards.  I would think the Stoke game is similar this year, whilst games against lower league opposition would be to test new systems etc.  I don't think pre-season friendlies really give any indications individually, or collectively until we are several games in and can see what lessons were learned during that period.  So I don't have a problem with any game.  Mind you, I live so far away I can't get to any anyway (unless we play Gillingham, Ebbsfleet, Dover, Maidstone or Margate!!), so it probably affects me less.

  7. Who’s going to watch this one?

  8. New contract: Slocombe

    Experienced keeper extends stay

Sam Slocombe has become the second out-of-contract player to commit his future to us.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper has signed a new two-year deal, following in the footsteps of fellow long-serving Magpie Connell Rawlinson.

And both Luke Williams and our board of directors look forward to welcoming him back to Meadow Lane in pre-season.

A statement reads: “Sam, like Connell, is such a valuable asset to us on and off the field.

“He’s an immensely experienced goalkeeper who has demonstrated his quality and consistency over his four years at the club.

“The role Sam played in last season’s promotion cannot be underestimated. He was a vital component in our team and many of the outstanding performances we produced would not have been possible without him.

“Equally importantly, he’s one of the best professionals you could ever wish to have in your squad. The way he conducts himself day in, day out is exemplary and we see him as the perfect role model for our younger players.

“We’ve enjoyed open and constructive dialogue with Sam over the summer to explain our intention to bring in a new, senior goalkeeper to work alongside him and Tiernan Brooks.

“We see this as an important element of our long-term squad development and Sam fully understands our position.

“We know he will continue to drive high standards from those around him and provide extremely tough competition for a place in our starting line-up.”

It's absolutely fantastic to see Notts County securing the services of Sam Slocombe with a well-deserved two-year deal. Slocombe has consistently displayed remarkable skill and composure between the sticks; his shot-stopping prowess and commanding presence make him a true asset to the team. I feel genuinely reassured about the strength and stability of the squad, knowing that we have such a reliable and experienced goalkeeper to rely on. This move certainly signals the positive direction in which the club is heading, and I wholeheartedly commend them for making such a judicious decision. Keep up the great work, Notts County and all the best to Sam Slocombe in continuing to shine throughout his time at Meadow Lane!

It’s truly amazing to say that they’ve gone from the Non-League to the Premier League. It’s important they don’t undo this progress by neglecting how they spend their money. Blackpool and Bournemouth both struggled after investing money into their grounds, rather than into the squad. Kenilworth Road does need some major work done to it, but they need to invest smartly if they want to stay up. I hope they don’t throw whatever money they can at whatever sticks; they have the chance of being a team that any fan of a club outside of the Premier League will be hoping to see them do well.

  10. Hopefully this isn’t a controversial subject but here goes.

I never watch Good Morning Britain and have absolutely no interest whatsoever what Philip Schofield has or has not been up to, does anyone else think the papers (gutter press) are hounding the poor bloke? Surely his private life should be that…..private.

Leave him alone for goodness sake otherwise it could have tragic consequences, god forbid he finds it too much and takes his own life but it’s happened to celebrities in the public eye before and can happen again.

I read 'Schofield' in a headline about being arrested due to alleged relationships and incident acts with minors. I instantly assumed it was about Phillip. I didn't know he had a brother. But there's something within their past that makes me feel this behaviour seems normal.

Phillip did an interview where he said he was shocked when his brother told him, it sounded scarily causal.

He mentioned that he told his brother to shut up and that he didn't want to know. That he had his brother swear it was just the one time but decided not to report it. I'm sorry, that alone is suspicious. Firstly, Phillip should've gone straight to the police instead of keeping quiet. Why did he say he wanted to talk to the police but also wanted to protect his brother from getting in trouble? Phillip even went as far as stating that he didn't hate his brother!

I wouldn't have been so coy about it; I would tell them to either hand themselves in or I would call the police.

I don't care, this stuff is serious, and it ruins people's lives. I wouldn't hide it, swear to secrecy. The fact Phillip has been on record saying this stuff, it makes me wonder if he was mindful about his own life choices. I actually liked Phillip at one point, but I think his trustability and actions have been questionable ever since all this news came out.

      https://www.thepinknews.com/2023/06/02/phillip-schofield-interview-this-morning-affair-bbc-the-sun/#page/1

I hope the police investigate Phillip. The press should not harass people. However, Phillip could have helped himself and the situation, but he didn't.

It is rather interesting to observe the complex nature of public figures like Phillip Schofield. While his decision to come out on This Morning was a personal one, it's understandable that some could view this as a potential diversion. It is essential to approach such topics with open-mindedness and critically evaluate all aspects before forming judgments.

Moreover, it appears that there might be certain elements of Phillip's personality and actions that are not immediately visible to the public eye. It is not uncommon for individuals to have multifaceted characters. As for Holly's interaction with Phillip, it could be mere speculation to assume her intentions without any concrete evidence.

Having said that, discussing such matters with diplomacy and respect for all parties involved is crucial. After all, we can never fully grasp the entirety of someone's life through the lens of media portrayal.

I don’t know about you all, but I am absolutely fed up with the constant coverage of the Phillip Schofield drama. Every time I turn on the TV or scroll through social media, there it is, staring me in the face. It’s like we can’t escape it!

Don’t get me wrong, I understand that it’s a big story and people are interested in it. But honestly, it’s just getting to be too much. It’s taking over everything and it’s starting to really annoy me.

Can we please just move on from this and focus on something else? There are so many other important things going on in the world right now that deserve our attention.

  11. Lets welcome @Lydia to PON. I hope to see you on here.

It's impossible to watch 'Wembley Uncovered' without experiencing goosebumps. The video is truly remarkable from beginning to end, capturing the essence of what makes Wembley so special. One can't help but be fully immersed in the awe-inspiring atmosphere that it creates, making it an unforgettable viewing experience.

It’s a great day that we’ll always remember when watching this back. It marks the start of a new era for our football club and community. We’ve grown so much.

Ricardo Moniz will soon be back in employment. He is never out of work for long and I believe that as long as he feels happy managing a team, he should continue until he decides to retire.

Ricardo Moniz, one must commend the man for his seemingly uncanny ability to secure employment within the European football scene. In comparison, such noteworthy and well-seasoned English managers as Harry Redknapp, Steve Bruce, and Big Sam appear to have achieved rather less in terms of attaining management positions across the top two tiers. It would be truly wonderful to witness Moniz ultimately triumph, reaching a level of success that would allow him to gracefully retire and bask in his accomplishments.

Good coach, but I think he's flawed somewhat as a manager. Everyone has their opinion, but I think a good manager knows you can't concede too many goals.

  12. Notts County are the oldest professional football club in the world, but they are also one of the smallest in terms of fan base. The Magpies have struggled to compete with bigger and more successful clubs in the region, such as Nottingham Forest and Derby County, and have seen their attendances decline over the years. They have also failed to appeal to younger generations, who may prefer to follow Premier League or European teams instead.

In this forum post, we want to discuss how Notts County can attract more young fans and grow their fan base. What can the club do to make themselves more relevant and attractive to the youth? How can they increase their exposure and reach in the media and online? How can they foster a sense of loyalty and identity among their fans? What are some initiatives or campaigns that Notts County can launch to attract more young fans?

Share your ideas and suggestions with us and let’s help Notts County grow.

Best - Dover, April 26th 2022. Won 3-0. It wasn't the game itself that made it memorable, but the coach journey there and back. Never laughed so much on an away day before. Rocking into Cambridge services at 1am. Surround yourself with good people and you get these days.

Worst - Oldham, January 1st 2019. Lost 2-0 and cold. Very cold. Antarctic levels of cold at the coldest stadium in the country, in a miserable season for Notts. Oldham score a cross-shot. I missed Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain getting sent off. I thought he was being subbed off 😂😂. One of the worst experiences I've been through.

@TheSkipper the text of your post and the title don't match up. I'll respond to the title - the rest is a MUCH longer discussion!

I don't travel away often, but the best was probably at Lincoln in early 1998. We were gunning for our ninth consecutive win and were really starting to pull away from our rivals, so we took a strong following - about half of the crowd was made up of Notts fans and the atmosphere was great. Sincil Bank is a great little ground too. We won 5-3 after going 3-0 up and then letting Lincoln come back and equalise early in the second half, just to keep things interesting.

The worst (Wembley 1996 apart) was a trip to Cheltenham in about 2006, it was Gudjon Thordarson's only season in charge, we were plummeting down the table and couldn't buy a win. Cue a spineless 3-0 defeat setting up a final day showdown against Bury. Luckily we stayed up thanks to results elsewhere, but that day I thought we were going down.

I'm not sure what my best is but my worst is away game is definitely Swindon due to relegation obviously but we are back up now.

  13. Notts County is a club with a rich history and a loyal fan base. Whether you have been following the Magpies for decades or just recently discovered them, you probably have some memorable moments watching them play. Maybe it was a thrilling victory, a stunning goal, a heroic comeback, or a funny incident. Maybe it was the atmosphere at Meadow Lane, the camaraderie with other fans, or the feeling of pride and passion.

In this forum post, we want to hear from you. What are your fondest memories of watching Notts County live? How did they make you feel? What made them special?

Share your stories and photos with us and let’s celebrate the joys of being a Notts County fan.

its difficult for me not to mention seeing notts county gain promotion to the football league via playoffs at wembley, this moment will stay with me for the rest of my life. i think aside from this watching notts in the playoffs at meadow lane against coventry, we were robbed blind. the 2009/10 season was incredible, seeing ben davies, lee hughes, craig wesrcar and kasper all makes me thankful for getting into notts.

I went to Wembley for the first time in the early 90s with my grandfather. I remember him putting me on his shoulders and celebrating like we had won the Anglo Italian Cup.

Other fond memories include booking an executive box in the earlier PON days, bringing my dad, Mark, and meeting Tony.

There are many other times I could share, but I will leave it with this too. I am very lucky to have so many wonderful memories of Meadow Lane, some memories I have pictures of but don't remember have escaped my mind.

Probably my fondest memories were during the 90’s, when I finally had transport so could travel to away games to watch Notts on a regular basis. Used to have some great days put up and down the country.  I very seldom go to away games nowadays, but hoping to go to a few this season with them being more local.

Other than that, all of the Wembley visits have been special, and I’ve been lucky enough to go to all apart from the Covid year. Got to say though that I preferred the old Wembley experience to the new, the area has changed so much since my first trip there to watch us beat Tranmere.

  14. Notts County have played in many different stadiums over the years, from the iconic Wembley to the humble Field Mill. Some of them have been memorable for the right reasons, such as the atmosphere, the facilities, the views, or the results. Others have been memorable for the wrong reasons, such as the poor conditions, the hostile fans, the bad location, or the defeats.

In this forum post, we want to hear from you. What are the best and worst stadiums you have seen Notts County play in? How did they affect your experience of watching the Magpies? Which stadium was the most impressive or enjoyable to visit and why? Which stadium had the best or worst pitch and how did it affect Notts County’s performance?

Share your opinions and stories with us and let’s compare notes.

weirdly, i went to see notts play chesterfield in league one. i liked their ground, i have been to another away game, i think it was solihull moors buy i am being forgetful. not sure how you can forget where you went but i have. 😂 the best is by far wembley but i assume it does not count, so then it would be chesterfields ground.

Best, Anfield, Keepmoat Stadium (I know it's changed now), Lamex Stadium (great away day, though the fans who were hurt/killed is haunting).

      Worst... Northampton and Gillingham.
