The "Notts" style, slow and intricate

This doesn’t mean much, although it’s interesting. Clearly, it’s a style that works for Notts. What would be interesting would be comparing this to last season. That would give a good insight, but provided we are doing well, I simply don’t care.

Whilst we are winning, it’s not something that is a concern. Notts can keep the ball, slow the game down, and then start passing it around as if they’re Barcelona. What’s not to like about that? I can see other teams slowing their game down as it allows for better technique and attention on the ball.

thing is, the way notts plays it makes sense. we dont just run needlessly into space and once the confidence in a game is reached and we understand the opposition we cut out passing the ball backwards. its at that point, usually in the second half when we start to play with more purpose. thats when the speed really comes into it and teams struggle with both slow and fast, because we have a talented group of players.

This style of play won us promotion last year and it’s doing pretty well so far this season, I think the graph is a bit misleading by making it sound as if Notts play a boring style of football whereas the opposite is the truth, I haven’t been as excited at matches for a long while.

Who cares? We look good playing this way. Those types of stats mean nothing. Besides, it would indicate a reason for the high possession, which teams usually need to win games. Of course, finishing too.

I would be interested if it compared all leagues from League Two to the Premier League. I am sure there are other teams who are slower and more patient with their build-ups that are enjoying success. It just happens to be something most teams are not comfortable with, simply because they make mistakes, do not have the right players, etc.

While Notts’ statistics may not be the most impressive, they are far from the worst. Some may complain that we play boring football, but the truth is that we are performing very well. Our style of play is largely responsible for our success, and there is no need for concern or fear. The statistics may be somewhat misleading and ultimately unimportant.

I used to hear this a lot, it applies to this because the stat reveals nothing of value. Is it interesting? Yes. However, it's like a dad joke that makes you laugh once. It's irrelevant after and, the club isn't going to change anything if they see it. Styles of football change, what works for some times and is effective tends to get picked up with time, it then becomes more common. Our style of play could very well be one of these situations, with Notts being on the verge of a groundbreaking style played by no other (or a few).

Provided we perform well, win, and it works I am satisfied. I don't enjoy hearing comments about the football being boring when in fact the game was actually very good. Morecambe perhaps was boring, Doncaster, Grimsby and Tranmere weren't.

Yeah I certainly wouldn't consider Notts to be a slow team. I wonder how they measure and contextualise this. Is it purely to do with long-balls?

The Notts team I watch are aggressive, run hard and attack teams whilst trying to dominate the ball!

We're not a slow team at all. I can imagine they've worked out the number of passes per goal or something to get that statistic. The graphic makes it look like we're trying to play tiki-taka football and boring the whole stadium into submission, but that's not the truth at all. We play some exhilarating and fast attacking football and - most importantly - it works very well for us!

Notts may have been slow, but the statistics could have been from the beginning of the season. I’m not sure. I don’t believe we are slow at the moment because things have settled down. I don’t pay attention to things like this, as comparing us in this manner seems strange.

Notts can be slow, but it’s not always the case. I don’t think this is very fair in terms of reflection on how Notts plays. Williams must be doing something right as we are top of the league, and as @Fan of Big Tone said, it got us promoted last season.

I wouldn’t say that Notts are a slow side either. When they get a grip of the game, they can demonstrate a lot of speed and determination. It would be interesting for someone with time to investigate further how the person who came up with this managed to achieve these results. I bet it’s misinformed! Notts are a very enjoyable team to watch when they are performing well, showcasing their skills and teamwork on the field.
