Leadership at Notts

Featured Replies

I am hopeful that Michael O'Connor will sign a new deal, I would give him at least another two-year-deal because he's a fantastic leader on the pitch.

Last season Kevin Nolan spoke about wanting these types of qualities in the signings he made, where I feel the majority had a good "chemistry" on the field. I don't think we had many true leaders, I wasnt a fan of Richard Duffy having the armband. His nagging complaints to the officials seemed something which always would result in him being given cards, not the way a true captain would behave in my opinion.

Hopefully Michael O'Connor will remain at Notts and continue to be the team captain.

It would be great if we had a few more leaders on the pitch, people capable of picking up other players and focusing on getting results. Do you hope for the same thing?

Yes, I agree with all that has been said I am looking forward to seeing Michael O'Connor lay a full season (fingers crossed), he is head and shoulders above and a born leader in my opinion. I really hope he signs and if he get's the right deal I believe he will because he said on the radio he wants to stay at Notts.

Personally, I'm expecting it to be a one year deal because of his injury, but with a clause to trigger for a second year, just like Stead's. If he can get back to where he was, he will be one of the best midfielders in the division and would give us the freedom to play him alongside someone a bit more creative which is what we have lacked this season.

I would like to see a few more players arrive with leadership qualities, yet I think Michael O'Connor is the perfect player to have as the captain.

He's been missed quite clearly, yet the togetherness is something which will provide an added bonus to the way we play. Previous seasons there's always been groups of players who socialise with each other and on the pitch this showed. Characters like Matt Tootle have really come out of their shell and have been a fantastic example on the field of how to drive the team onto win, I think Matt's got great qualities in this department.

Overall I think leadership is important, yet we do require players who can be committed as a team and focus on getting results.

A field where dreams become reality.

Agree with everything said. Whilst, I wouldn't want Stead to play much in 18-19 I would like him to try and lead the team or insert discipline to the younger players whenever possible

@ARLukomski makes a very interesting point regarding Jon Stead.

He's usually the level headed player on the pitch and this is something that could lead the team well, that said I don't see him featuring much. Alan Hardy has said we want two new strikers and one that score 20+ goals. I feel Michael O'Connor is the perfect choice but we do need more leaders on the pitch. Any player that can defuse situations is also an added bonus, as we do get cards for confronting the officials.

The players have improved their discipline on the field, yet I do feel we argue a bit too much. Sometimes you can't help it like Duffy's yellow card in the first leg but we need to be wiser as these can come back to punish us.

I would say leadership qualities are a must if we want to gain promotion next season.

O'Connor is a very good captain, he's sensible and he always talks to the players. I would like to see a few more players who are able to calm down others and to get the focus back to the task at hand in those important games.

i think michael o'connor is the perfect leader on the pitch.

i dont think he picks up many cards, so hes the opposite to the likes of liam noble who has been okay as the captain. i just prefer captains to be examples on the pitch and lead with experience. a good captain can make all the difference in games and its someone who can bring the best out of players, i dont think theres anyone quite like o'connor at the moment.

yet captains do seem to go on to be decent managers, so its something we should explore.

I would just want to see the club sign good quality players who can play as a team.

Leadership is something anyone can improve on, some are naturals but I think there are several players who can lead if needed. Elliot Hewitt for example is a fantastic player to have when it comes to heads dropping, the times I have seen him try to lift others around him. Michael O'Connor is the perfect leader for us, just sensible in every meaning of the word.

Oh oh oh ohhhhh, everywhere where we go, watching super County putting on a show!

Quality is the key, if we sign a couple of experienced heads this will help with the leadership on the field.

I think the main thing is to sign people who bring someone we don't have or improve what is existing, previous managers tend to bring in too many players who are alike and this only leads to problems down the line. Notts has to think outside the box and Nolan must bring in quality over the summer.

Why did the hidden cameras not work last season?...

P.S. Think the O'Connors might not like that and tbh, nor would the police
