Will Fitzsons be County’s number one next season.?

So Fitzsimons has signed a new deal with the magpies but will he be the new number one.?

Certainly hope so!

Until his ‘moment’ - which he’s now said he’s learned from (and still never mentioned the “tackle” assaults he’d been subjected to throughout the match!) - I thought he looked a confident No.1. He made some pretty decent saves - including a penalty - and was very aware of the field of play, from his posts. He’s also very quick, commands his spot well AND never ‘twerks’ in the net when the ball’s coming towards him from the halfway line!

Roll on start of the Season, that’s what I say. Bring it on!

At the moment he's bound to be. ????

Ideally we will sign another experienced player to cover him, but I think Ross Fitzsimons will excel from starting regularly. I hope he does thrives next season.

he will no doubt.

im not sure we will spend money on signing another experienced goalkeeper, i just hope he dont get injured or suspended. :(

Ross must be the number one but I do think we need an experienced goalkeeper as backup.

The young lad does not seem ready, I know you can only improve with experience but he looks in need of a loan spell to get that. I would be surprised if he can do a job in the league.

You can tell with Adam Collin leaving that Ross Fitzsimons will be the new number 1 since signing his new deal.

I think he will be perfectly and he can only improve by playing. I think with confidence hes a great keeper, I just hope some fans who are never happy don't turn on him. We do need a backup, but we could cope I am sure.

At the minute im not to sure about this just cause of the incident with him being sent off ..which he paid for last year and he hasn’t had much game time since. And I’m thinking you build from the back and a exspirence goal keeper would help maybe

If he's not, it means we need a new keeper to be signed most certainly.

I think he will be, it's obvious that Kevin Nolan believes in him and I also believe he will grow with starting more regularly.

I have no doubt that Ross Fitzsimons will be the new number 1 this upcoming season, I don't think Kevin Nolan would have given him a short deal and then offer him a new one if this wasn't the plan of action for the club.

Another solid backup would give me more confidence.

No debate at this time.

If a new keeper does sign then this may change, but Fitzsimons has the backing from the majority of fans and he's a capable keeper. I hope he grows in the position and comes out of his shell more.

He looked very nervous and shaky today, I am sure people will defend him but I do also wonder how many would have criticised Adam Collin for the goals Ross conceded today. I think he will be a great keeper, yet once he's beaten and the pressure is on - he went missing.

At the Basford game he seemed nervous and almost prone to making mistakes, Basford should have scored at least three past him.

Hopefully more game time will lift him, but can we please try to sing or chant his name so that he knows we are behind him? It's fine to say he didn't do well, but I think he needs a lift and he can do a job for us.

i think he needs to find form tbh, it must be hard to be thrown in as number one and have the players in front of you play so badly. he looked lost in the second half, i think he should have played the full 90 mins but at what point do you think about his confidence?

people will defend ross, some will moan and pick on him.

give him time and he will prove himself but i think it will show kn that we need a good alternative backup. if pindroch is so highly rated why has he not featured? its that grof situation all over again.

This was the first game I’ve seen him this season and he was less than impressive, I think he needs to find his confidence he did look nervous.

Agreed most definitely shakey and out of practice to

I missed the first goal as did @Chris totally my fault but all I saw with the first goal was him get a hand to the ball and he didn’t look confident. From there on in he looked shakey nervous.. but after a thought he may be match sharpness short cause he didn’t play the last half of the season ....  I’m prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt cause playing against higher teams can cause nerves

He did look nervous at times but he had no chance with any of the goals and pulled of three excellent saves.

Its a new role for him this year, he will grow into it undoubtedly, he wasn't helped in the slightest by the defence getting the run around, there were a few people sat around me who from the Derek Pavis said he should of done better with the first one!! Love to have seen them faced with a ball being smashed at them from 5 yards away, absolutely no chance.

Also some of the balls back to him were shocking, got to give the guy a chance, that seems to have carried over from last year, the fork it, its now the keepers issue style of back pass

Posted

Think he needs to command the defence, the keeper in the second half was vocal from the other end of the pitch and I never heard Fitzsimons once. I think he's a good keeper tho.

Its nice to see Derby putting highlights up on their YouTube channel.

Fitzsimons should have saved the first, nobody can defend that and say he couldn't.

Second goal he should have saved or done much better with, he barely reacted and if this was Collin people would be up in arms even if it was a friendly. I will let him off with the third because it was 1 on 1 but some other fans would have thought he could save it no doubt.

The club has to sign another keeper who is equally as good as Ross, but right now he must be number one. He will grow in the role I am sure.

I think his form will improve once the league season begins, but I do think the position shouldn't be handed to him on a plate and with that in mind a good backup keeper seems required. If Pindroch can't make any of these friendlies, what does it say about him? His confidence will have been shot down.
