Adding speed and height into the Notts squad

A lot of fans seem to desire the skill, flash, and reputation that comes attached to players like Kane Hemmings and Kristian Dennis. Although as we have seen last season, it doesn't always pan out as it would seem. On paper, things like the above often look good, but ultimately it's all down to the service and teamwork.

Last season, Notts desperately lacked height and speed, something that wasn't addressed as such but more with added experience.

I don't want Notts to be branded a club where washed up players come to hang up their boots, or obtain that last good pay day because of the fans support.

I would hope the club could become a team, which not only generates its own stars from within the Notts academy, but also a club that can take on existing young talent and mentor them into good squad players. The reason I feel this doesn't often work, is mostly down to time and the lack of focus.

Notts tends to sign the wrong players, at the wrong age and only positive aspect tends to be their "experience".

Yet, once the club has addressed the takeover and started to build on the infrastructure - I would hope they look to sign players who have the technical ability, height and speed to really add the depth missing from the squad.

people go on reputation, past experience, the amount goals, assists and appearances.

its daft because its how they fit into the squad, notts could sign messi [if we had the money] and he might not be successful. notts just never seems to have the right balance within the squad. i do agree height and speed is something likely, i also feel you are spot on @Chris about the club becoming a last stop for aging players.

the club needs to build a strong camp, break the division and focus on team building exercises.

Richie Bennett is a player I'd be looking at. Tall, strong and can do a job in League 2, nevermind non-league. Inih Effiong as well from Dover.

Pace is something we've been missing. We never exploit slow defences. The one thing defences hate most is pace. Need someone to play alongside a new target man. I can't see Hemmings staying.

New wingers as well. Enzio won't stay. Other than that our only other wingers are Osborne and Kellett (who probably plays better in CAM)

Sometimes to kill time or the oppositions attack I do feel Notts misses someone who can run with the ball, JCR used to get a lot of stick for taking the ball wide and just wasting time. If he had the support or someone to cross to, he would have stood out more as a good player.

But I feel the club misses someone like him.

Enzio is okay at running and then cutting in, yet hes a bit too greedy and his pace tends to be fast and above average depending on his application.

I do feel pace is massively lacking in the squad.

Desire, skill, flash and Kristian Dennis in the same sentence?

Must've missed that one.

A lot of the teams in league two had tall squads or at least big defenders, I think Notts needs to needs to get the right balance.

How people reacted when he scored the hat trick against Doncaster Rovers in the checkatade trophy.

Notts should have tried to bring him into games like the performance did that night, I watched online and he did well. You cannot just blame the player.

Notts missed Shola Ameobi last season, he dealt well with a lot of the physical stuff.

The midfield was bypassed before the arrival of Jim O'Brien and Michael Doyle, someone younger of their ilk would be a good combination. Defensively, Notts needs to sign defenders quick but calm on the ball, just clear or pass it.

I would add talkers into that mix, communication has been lacking.

Neal Bishop used to communicate well with the players around him, Gary Liddle too, it's something Notts has lacked. Jon Stead did it to a degree but nobody further back. Pace would be a useful skill for the squad to have.

Fine tuning the squad is a must.

The midfield last season wasn't quick or creative enough, the defence needs a bit of height. I would prefer to see the club address the age range though, you can't expect a 37 year old to score all the goals. I know they brought Dennis and Hemmings to combat this but it wasn't given a proper chance to work.

adding players that can actually play together would be good.

Dennis has a proven scoring record in none league and league 2 given the right service. Pumping high balls to him is not the right service. Hemmings got 14 goals last season after missing half of it. Scoring goals need not be our problem next season, creating them however might be a different story.

The club has two strikers it should maintain if they want to get promoted or at least try, signing a target man and a player with pace to burn should be a priority.

Having wingers who not only have skill, but are fit and paced would help.

Height at the back is always a must too.
