Changes in life

If you could go back in time and change just ONE thing in your life what would you change and why?

I'm a believer in everything happens for a reason and I'm happy where life has brought me but if I could change one thing then it'd be avoid having my ankle snapped when I was 13. Not only was it a horrific injury to suffer but long term it prevented me playing regular football. Injury after injury to the point on doctors advice I was told not to play competitive football again. I haven't played for a team in 5 years, I only play mess around 5 a sides now.

I wouldn't change a thing, because I did things my way.

If I could change something beyond my own life, I would have given Big Sam the keys to Meadow Lane, my fancy car and all of the money I had in the back and told him to stay instead of going to Bolton.

Get THIS club back where it belongs.

Quite a few years ago (during a previous relationship) I had the chance to have a bit on the side with a redhead. I didn't because I'm faithful and she became my drinking buddy instead. But if I'd known that relationship was doomed anyway, I might well have ticked off that particular bucket list item ;)

Honestly, this can be a raw subject for me but I wouldn't change a thing in principle.

Before the last few years, I would have said that avoiding my first knee dislocation would have been something I would have changed. I have mentioned this a few times if not more on here, however if I had changed that outcome - I don't think I would have known about hEDS (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome). That could be a scary thing to think about, as I might have made it as a footballer and, then suffered dislocations naturally without knowing the cause.

I'm not going to suggest another thing, although my mind has gone their but I have three wonderful children.

I suppose the easily thing, that I know I would do 100% is how I spent time when my grandfather passed on. I was worried that he would see that I knew he had cancer, so I avoided going when I really wanted too.

Instead I escaped playing on my PlayStation and Civilization.

In hindsight, I wished I had made more of this and just gone because it's time I would never have gotten back.

Also, I wished my final goodbye wasn't in the hospital after he had died.

Only one thing that i know i could never actually do. Bring my first born back to life.

Difficult one really. The things that happen make us what we are right here, right now and without them good or bad, a different road would have been taken.

I used to work at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground during my 6th form and Uni days as a steward. Rose up through the ranks and was offered full time head of security and stewards. I decided after four years at uni, I should follow through and go into teaching and it was was the right choice at the time. After leaving teaching after 24 years due to the job being so different and paperwork based rather than me actually teaching...would I make the same choice now? Never know. I did enjoy the cricket stuff though. Loved going in sorting out the Aussie fans in the Fox road stands when they were worse for wear! All good fun though.

@KB1862 No, we were in touch for a long time but went separate ways and are both married now. Apart from the bucket list, it's one of those "Sliding Doors" moments though. If it had worked out, I might have put down roots in Coventry and never gone to Germany. Or it might have changed nothing (apart from the notch on my bed post).

@KB1862 Can't really answer that. Some things are good, others are annoying, but after you've lived somewhere for a while it just becomes normal. If I'd gone to Kiel instead, that would have been different again. What I do regret is moving the 30 miles from Mannheim to Darmstadt - I can't warm to the place at all. So maybe another change is coming up.

@DangerousSausage yeah I get that I'm similar I moved out into another town and it takes some getting used to but then you adapt to surroundings

For a short time I regretted moving to America, now I wouldn't change it.

There is a couple of things that I would have changed in my past, even though you just asked for one. One of them would be that I wish I spoke to my nanna more before she passed away. We all had a massive argument with my dads side and now we dont talk to that side of family anymore, we dont even make eye contact if we see each other in the shops.

Another thing would be as soppy as it sounds, I wish I said yes to going out with @ARLukomski earlier than I did, even though I had a thing for him since we were 12 (sorry to embarrass you Dec).

I would give more time to education, and probably tried to go to Oxford or Cambridge. Or at least to Durham.

@Alex that's a good one mate I've found education interesting since leaving school and self educated myself on subjects I messed round in.

Unfortunately when I was 18 or even 25 years old I was sure that an education is waste of time. I changed my mind in my late thirties. Self education is great but in my opinion formal education is much better not least because you can find and meet interesting people with same mind. Now I am 40 but I don’t think it’s too late. And this is what I would like to change in my life :)

I would change a lot of things I can't really pick

Perhaps getting into playing football at an earlier age? ;)

I wouldn't change anything I have done, it's all got me to where I am now.
