I enjoyed going last year, it was my first time to one (at least I don't remember another time).

I will be ready to stick up for the pies tonight, even though I will most likely get a ticking off from @cheeky~k8. It's just a bit of banter but I have to do my part ;)

@super_pie and my eldest daughter have already seen it with school, so it will be nice for our youngest especially because she isn't at the stage yet where schools take her group. She loved it as much as me, so it will be nice to relax and have a bit of quality time where we are all laughing.

Anyone else been recently?

Southgate has signed an extension to his contract to manage the Under 21 side, and apparently this puts him in the box seat to replace Woy...

Does success or not at Under 21 level naturally suggest that you can do it at full international level.

Could he cope with the bigger ego's, what would make him different to any of the previous 15 managers who have tried to emulate the success of Sir Alf Ramsey? Ramsey himself couldn't replicate the win of 66 during the following 8 years.

What do we think?

There has been alarm about new "stealth" speed cameras. Just how "sneaky" are they, asks Tom de Castella.

It goes by the snappy name Highways Agency Digital Enforcement Camera System 3, or Hadecs 3 for short. The new speed camera system was installed in April 2014 between junctions five and six on the M25 in Kent near Clacket Lane Services. But it only became operational on 22 October. By 15 January - less than three months later - 1,513 people had been caught. One of the biggest complaints is that they are painted grey rather than yellow.

The Daily Mail warned: "Watch out, new stealth cameras on motorways." It noted that the high tech camera system will soon be expanded to other motorways.

Hadecs 3 differs radically from older systems. It can cover all the lanes of a motorway carriageway from a single camera mounted on the grass verge or a gantry. If the vehicle is breaking the speed limit the camera takes two photographs of the registration number.

It differs from the average speed system that has been deployed at roadworks or accident blackspots for several years. That system requires a pair of cameras to catch the car entering and leaving a controlled zone. And before Hadecs 3, motorway cameras could only monitor one lane of motorway at a time.

The answer
  • The new cameras are grey and situated on the motorway verge so may be hard to see
  • But there are signs warning drivers of speed cameras ahead

Critics of the new system say that unlike the yellow boxed speed cameras of old, its grey colour makes it hard to spot - "stealthy" even.

The Highways Agency rejects this. It may be grey. But so was predecessor Hadecs 2 - in operation on the M25 near Heathrow. And Hadecs 3 is accompanied by signs warning motorists of speed cameras ahead.

The M25 in Kent has been chosen because it is part of the government's Smart Motorways policy - where the hard shoulder is opened up at times of peak demand and variable speed limits enforced. The new cameras will soon be rolled out to other Smart Motorway sections - the M1 (in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire), M6 (around Birmingham) and a stretch of the M3.

A lot of people have been caught in a short space of time. Of the 1,513 drivers logged by the new cameras, 781 had exceeded a speed limit of 70mph, according to Kent Police. The other 732 had broken a limit of either 40, 50 or 60mph. The Highways Agency says the people caught are a small proportion of the "hundreds of thousands of motorists [who] use this stretch of the M25 every day". But without knowing how many motorists were caught by the old camera systems on a similar stretch of motorway, it's hard to say whether more drivers are being caught by Hadecs 3.

Now, this is something I hadn't heard of..

Some "interesting" points in here... http://www.ncfpa.co.uk/

Had we heard of this? Seems a good thing to me...

Would you pay £34 million to go to the International Space Station for 10 days?

I wonder if Thomson or Thomas Cook could get her a better deal with extra luggage allowance thrown in?

According to The Secret Footballer.... deal already in place for move to happen in the summer...

The Notts County youth team travelled to play Mansfield at a very blustery and cold Clipstone  FC yesterday evening knowing that a victory would put them level on points with league leaders Hull City.  There was a rare outing for striker Alex Kenlock, recently out on loan at Rainworth MW FC.

An accident to the original keeper early on meant that the Stags' very young looking substitute keeper should have been in for a very busy time, especially as Notts had the advantage of the strong wind in the first half.

Notts seemed reticent to shoot despite having the strong wind at their backs.  Notts did the right thing, keeping the ball on the floor and passing well amongst themselves but eventually the ball was played wide and crossing in the strong wind proved very difficult with most crosses usually ending up behind the goal.

Notts were the better side and continued to try and play good football but the wind made it so difficult and at half time the score was 0-0.

Early in the second half the Stags' keeper, using the wind, kicked the ball the length of the field with the bounce completely beating the Notts custodian and sailing into the net.

Trying to get back into the game against the strong wind was always going to be difficult but Notts stuck to their task of still trying to play football but rarely looked like scoring.  With about ten minutes left Mansfield scored a second goal when a free-kick was headed wide of the Notts keeper.

A disappointing result in a game made very difficult for both teams by the weather.  Notts have now failed to score in their last two games against teams in the bottom half of the table and they seem to be missing top scorer Colby Bishop who was there in the crowd to support his team-mates.

There is a proposal to rename the newly refurbished A453 in honour of the 453 British soldiers that died in the war in Afghanistan.

Hero's Way or Bastion Way has been suggested and also planting poppies or 453 oak trees along the route.

This was suggested by a listener to Radio Nottingham and seems to be gathering pace.

What a great idea, what do you think?

If they can name a road Brian Clough Way then I'm sure this can happen.

Ched Evans: Sheffield United allow convicted rapist to train at club

_78302233_ched_evans_getty.jpgSheffield United will allow convicted rapist Ched Evans to train with them following their former player's release from prison, the BBC has learned.

The 25-year-old was freed last month after serving half of a five-year sentence for raping a 19 year-old woman in a hotel room in 2011.

There has been controversy over whether he should resume his football career.

The League One club continues to deliberate on any long-term decision about the Wales international.

He will train with the club for the first time since his release later this week, a move that will be seen by many as the first step towards a possible return.

It is also understood the club contacted the football authorities to notify them that they wanted the player to train with them.

How does this make you feel about Sheffield United? Has he served his time and should be given another chance (ala Lee Hughes) or should he stay away from the game for what he did?

Notts are being linked with Sky Blues striker Billy Daniels.

Notts County are interested in Coventry City midfielder Billy Daniels as they chase their fourth signing of the January transfer window.

The Magpies are believed to have held talks with the frontman in the last 24 hours as he closes in on a departure from the League One Sky Blues.

A deal could even be announced tonight for the 20-year-old who has seen chances of a first-team spot limited at the Ricoh this season.

He had suffered quite a bad injury which required specialist treatment, however like Adams he is highly rated. His youth days he was like with a couple of move to Premiership sides, all nothing ever materialized.

Not a bad player, thoughts?

Locally this has to be up there as the standout tie in the fourth round of the FA cup. Having seen off Scunthorpe, Chesterfield now look to do a Ram-raid on neighbours and championship high fliers Derby County.

The tie gives Paul Cook the chance to put one over on ex England manager and honorary cloggy Scchteve McLaren.

@super_ram surely being the cup, and a local derby, this is the worst kind of banana skin.....

Wolverhampton Football Club are mourning the death of former owner Sir Jack Hayward, a minutes silence was held before the FA cup tie last night against Fulham.

A true Football supporter, who genuinely loved Wolves...

IMO the footballing community has lost another of it's shining lights, but thankfully because of Jack Hayward, Wolves live on.

Steve Davis has warned his men to beware of a backlash from Notts County on Saturday, 3pm.

After a strong start the Magpies are in freefall in League One, having failed to win any of their last seven matches.

They have lost their last four at Meadow Lane, scoring just twice in the process, and are currently rock-bottom of the division’s form standings.

After the Alex’s recent run of good results the gap between the sides has narrowed to just five points, and Davis’s men will be confident.

But he warned Shaun Derry’s men will be hurt by their recent performances, and will view the fixture against a side they have already beaten 3-0 this season as the perfect opportunity to get back on track.

He said: “They have hit some indifferent form, it happens to all teams.

“But they’ll be trying to put that right, they are at home and their fans will be wanting them to perform a lot better.

“We go there at a good time, we hit Oldham at a similar stage.

“But they have a good group of players, they are suffering with confidence a little bit perhaps.

“We’ve gone longer than that without winning, you don’t know how it affects the group.

“They’ll see it this as a big game because we are below them in the table.

“I think we are better than we were when we met in the first part of the season. Hopefully we’ll give them a better game.”

The manager is confident defender Harry Davis, who had his tooth knocked out in the 3-1 victory over Gillingham last weekend, and midfielder Anthony Grant, who has a slight hip problem, will be fit to play.

Crewe have won three of their last four, but haven’t tasted success at County since the 1996-97 season. They have drawn two and lost two since.

The Alex hope to add a back-up keeper to their squad in time for the game.

County signed winger Will Hayhurst on an 18-month deal from Preston earlier this week, and brought in attacking duo Alefe Santos and Kwame Thomas on loan from Derby County.

Davis added: “Everyone feels better when you are winning, there is momentum and spirit around the place.

“In all honesty, even when we were losing, we kept the belief in the group that we could turn it around and that’s starting to show.”

Thoughts?

Our old goalie is on telly tonight as he plays in goal for Ipswich against one of his former clubs Southampton.

Hope he keeps a clean sheet.

Has anyone else noticed these signs that seem to pop up in all sorts of odd places?

I've never seen any police activity going on and they seem to be there for a week or so then disappear.

What's that all about?

I'd like to know what you think about the above article, this is a little bit of an experiment but please do read and share your opinions here in form of a discussion (by all means comment on the article) just head here to tell me if you feel we should be focusing more on our own system, if you agree with me and why or whatever you opinion on the matter is.

I feel strongly about giving any player the chance and although we have times where we voice concern, I know if they do well people will acknowledge that.

Derry could forge a name for being trusted with players, naturally clubs will only let youngsters out at first but I could see a partnership forming where by clubs know we can get the best out of experienced players, especially those who are struggling to get into their first team but the club wants to keep.

Ricky Ravenhill & Junior Brown join Mansfield Town

<!--url{0}--> Mansfield Town have signed midfielders Ricky Ravenhill and Junior Brown on contracts until the end of the season.

Ravenhill, 33, has not been a regular for Northampton Town this season and left the Cobblers on Tuesday.

Brown, 25, had been on loan from Oxford United since late November, and left the U's by mutual consent.

"Ricky will add a wealth of experience. He is someone who has achieved success in League Two previously," said Stags boss Adam Murray.

"[He] is a leader and organiser - specific qualities which I think we needed. Ricky will raise the standards."

Ravenhill began with Barnsley and has made a total of 488 appearances during his career, scoring 23 goals and gaining four promotions.

He also won the League Two title with Notts County in 2009-10.
