Morecambe will hopefully find a better owner next time, provided this one gets pushed out. It would be a shame to see them suffer further due to their owner refusing to pay his responsibility.

Morecambe is in desperate need of a lifeline. Their owner has the financial means and should settle his debts. If he’s lost interest in his plaything, he should allow Tyson Fury to purchase them without trying to overcharge him. I’d be thrilled to see a charity match where Fury, blindfolded, goes up against Sarbjot Johal. I believe Fury would detect Johal by his perspiration and secure a clean victory with a single punch.

It’s horrible to see this becoming a common occurrence instead of a rare thing. I hope Morecambe overcomes the issues. They have a decent ground for this level and have earned their status in the Football League. It would be a shame to see a stubborn owner undo all this, especially one so young and clueless.

  1. Stone 7 - difficult to rate because he didn't have a serious save to make, but did what he had to do well.
Rawlinson 7 - looks good on the right side of a back 3, great to see him score the winner.
Brindley 7 - switching him to the centre was an inspired move, he looks so much better.
Cameron 7.5 - impressive today both defending and going forward.
Nemane 7 - scared them in the first half, but a bit mixed in the second.
Palmer 7 - does what Palmer does. Always available and keeps us moving.
Bostock 9* - A majestic display. Didn't waste a pass and won the ball back regularly. Today Bostock looked like a Premiership player dropped into a League 2 match. Head and shoulders above any other player on the pitch, a travesty he didn't get MOM.
Jones 7.5 - classy, provided some quality crosses that deserved a better end product.
Crowley 7 - always composed on the ball, some good creative moments.
Langstaff 7 - everything but a goal, and he should probably have had a couple. He was still in the right place and his work ethic can't be faulted.
McGoldrick 7.5 - showed more of what he offers. Great finish for our first and could have had more.

Subs 6.5 - all did their job. Hope Scott's injury is a minor one.

An impressive performance today, the scoreline really didn't do us justice. Another brilliant attendance, the thought of us getting over 10,000 for a home game against Tranmere would have been unthinkable last time we were here.

From where I stood behind the Kop, he chested it expecting contact that never came and threw himself to the floor. Player reactions on both sides indicated the same, but also I've not seen the incident back

I saw it on iFollow (including a replay) and you're right - he was expecting contact and none was forthcoming, so he did a kind of belly flop. That's the sort of thing that goes viral if you're unlucky. No need for it at all. But in his defence, there seems to be three of him on the pitch at any one time and we missed him when he went off.

Other than that I don't have a lot to add. Bostock just oozes quality and we're going to have a lot of fun with Crowley. I'm also pleased for McGoldrick that he got off the mark at home. He really looked the part yesterday after a couple of games where not a lot of things he tried came off, and he was so unlucky to hit the post too.

Being right close to the action, I was listening to the radio via my phone as I watched the incident unfold. There was contact, but I think Matt Palmer made the most of it. The Tranmere Rovers player certainly did touch him, I am not sure the cameras would have got the angle, but a slight touch was made to the ball (Palmer was caught first).

He did go down like a sack of spuds (@GrannyPie and @super_ram saying), either way he made a meal of it. Yet there was a clear penalty, which were when Tom Davies smuggly handled the ball.

It's hard not to give 7's acorss the board, I though Matt Palmer and John Bostock bossed the midfield.

  3. There’s a special feeling around the club right now. The bond between the players, club, and fans is stronger than ever. It’s important for us to do well on the field, but it’s also important for us to enjoy the football. We can talk about key match moments and reflect on performances, but at the end of the day, we have a squad we’ve wanted for years. The club feels like we’re on the up. Games are exciting to attend because we’re making the stands echo with our support. It’s something the players appreciate.

Just how much are you enjoying Notts right now? What are your thoughts on our fans’ support at games this season? Let us know in the comments below!

The fans were amazing again yesterday and I know the players appreciate it the way they react at the end of the game. I noticed Chicksen came on to applaud the fans even though he was an unused sub and not involved as such. The bond is very good at the moment long may it continue.

  4. Thank you, @Chris, for my display picture. I have been using an Aussie club’s badge since arriving at Meadow Lane, but they don’t play our football. I asked him if he would make the necessary changes to make it more Notts related. I think he has done a superb job; it’s a lot more detailed now.

I think it's RB Leipzig where some of the original supporters still don't like the rebranding of the club.

You're thinking of Salzburg, who were already a top-flight club when the fizzy drinks company turned up, changed the name and colours and attempted to delete its history. In Leipzig they took over an amateur club's league position and drove a coach and horses through league rules in a country where a company cannot "own" a club outright. Shame on the authorities for letting it happen. I'd rather Bayern won the next 50 Bundesliga titles than Red Bull's marketing gimmick get near to it once.

This looks like another Salzburg in the making. A huge shame for that club's loyal supporters.

  5. Welcome to our live discussion about Notts County's performance in the League Two season! 🙌🏻

Notts County suffered a shock in their opening game, but they have steadily improved since then. Are they now on the up? Are they settling into life in League Two? These are some of the questions we'll be discussing today.

    • Notts are 9th in League Two
    • LWDW - current form
    • Currently sit two places away from the playoffs and are six places away from the automatic promotion places.
    • Scored 7
    • Conceded 8

Join us as we delve into Notts' journey so far in the League Two season and share your thoughts and opinions with us.

It will be interesting to keep this discussion going over the course of the season, drawing back to points in which we have already mentioned. It will be a good source to see how things truly reflect say by 12 games in.

As it does look like we are progressing very well right now.

Luke Williams and the squad, just need to handle any potential set backs.

    3. Joshua

      Joshua

In my view, the journey thus far has been largely positive. I’d like to see the team concentrate on becoming more robust and controlling matches with the same resolve we witnessed against Doncaster. There’s no reason why we can’t be among the leading teams in this league.

    4. Nocturnal-Magpie

      Nocturnal-Magpie

The journey is just beginning, a few more good results and it could put us in a very healthy position. The issue with entering that mix, can we avoid the nerves for the long term? I think so, the club is heading in the right direction and performances are getting better. As others have said, there may be some setbacks but it’s how we navigate around them. Each time a potential setback happens, we must work harder to form a new unbeaten run. It’s promising, a few wins and we will see what happens! Then again, we could get a string of draws. It’s football, it’s not an exact science.

Macaulay Langstaff signing a new deal is a big thing for Notts. It gives us fans something less to be concerned about. I hope Luke Williams pushes for the club to start talks with other players, but any other contract renewals would be hard-pressed to match the importance this deal has on the club.

    3. allardyces tash

      allardyces tash

Fans might be fearless about losing Macaulay Langstaff. Notts has done well in certain areas by retaining players, and it’s good that we haven’t lost anyone at a crucial stage in any of the recent seasons. I know some felt disappointed to see Cal Roberts leave. However, Aaron Nemane is a far more threatening player, and we don’t need to make him the focal point of our attacks. Likewise, Langstaff doesn’t need to be the focal point, but we just have to make sure he gets plenty of chances. It’s great news regarding the extension he has signed.

    4. Nocturnal-Magpie

      Nocturnal-Magpie

This was by far the best news I have seen, to read that Macaulay Langstaff had committed to a new deal. It’s like winning the lottery, having your birthday, Christmas, having your first child and getting married all in one. I just hope he continues to shine for us.

  6. I don’t travel to away matches but enjoy listening to Radio Nottingham. After Charlie Slater I’d not been too impressed with his replacement until todays game, I thought Dave Bracegirdle was excellent although I missed Mark Stallard who was absent, Ian Richardson stood in.

The young commentator who did the first games showed his inexperience but he’ll learn, whereas Dave Bracegirdle really was very assured and competent his interview technique for the post match interview with Luke Williams was really good he asked all the right questions whilst being respectful.

The coverage for Notts is always enjoyable. I think once they settle, everyone will agree. It’s important that the people who do it are passionate about the club. I don't expect any apologies, but it's nice when a player does it unprompted because it shows that they care. The players didn't really need to do it after the Sutton defeat, yet from the political point it keeps fan on aside and less likely to complain.

    4. Nocturnal-Magpie

      Nocturnal-Magpie

Credit to Kyle Cameron, but I don’t think he needed to say sorry. Some fans will expect that, it’s fine. Whatever. I would like to see what has happened since, a positive reaction on the pitch. That goes a lot further than words, but I do appreciate it.

On an unrelated note, a fan of football might be intrigued to learn that “Tom” Hateley, the grandson of a certain individual, played for Tranmere Rovers. I’m not aware of any other Notts players who haven’t already been mentioned.

  8. I am curious what people think, if Notts needs to sign one or more to cover? We are yet to see what Ollie Tipton brings to the team, and Richard Brindley has done superbly in the middle of the three CB's.

However, we may need cover in this area and with Geraldo Bajrami's injury, I could see Tipton playing in the DM/CB role when needed.

Despite the feeling of needing a CB who is tall and can play the ball out. I have a feeling we won't bring anyone in, and I am fine with that. As we can review the situation in January. Thoughts?

I'm puzzled as to what the Tipton loan is about, he doesn't make the squad.

As for Baj, it's a bad injury to have because he covered that defensive midfield option and a ball playing centre back.

I think we’re more likely to sign a defensive midfielder, probably someone who can fill-in in defence if needed.

It’s an interesting thought, what with John Bostock and Jim O’Brien. I wonder if Luke Williams plans to bring in Tobi Adebayo-Rowling to cover. Personally, I would say that the squad has cover, and if there are no worries about the centre-backs, then Ollie Tipton should be given time before we bring in someone else. Williams has said that he can play both positions, so we might not need to rush out. The transfer deadline closing may present a problem, but I would imagine an emergency loan may be an option.

    4. CliftonMagpie

      CliftonMagpie

While a tall centre-back could be beneficial, we do have sufficient depth in our squad. I don’t foresee Luke Williams bringing in any new players. Ollie Tipton might see more action in defence, but he also has the capability to provide support in the roles of Jim O’Brien and John Bostock.

I like Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. The character of Frank Spencer is someone most people can relate to. We have all met a ‘Frank’, who may not be over-exaggerated, but the similarities are there. It’s one of the sitcoms I could easily re-enjoy rewatching. A lot of the stunts Michael Crawford did are exactly what makes it timeless. It’s a very funny and well-written show.

What plans have you all got this weekend or if you’re reading this late what did you do?

Today is set to be wet so I don’t suppose I will be going far, tonight’s tea will be one to look forward to, Mrs. T is doing one of her famous home made curries, Chicken Jalfrezi.

Tomorrow I’ll be doing the 5k Park Run at Long Eaton then listening to Notts commentary.

Sunday we are going to our sons house for a bbq and to watch the Lionesses in the World Cup Final. Our son and family are returning from a holiday in Croatia so it’ll be great to see the grandkids and give them their Notts shirts which they’ve been looking forward to.

I have been focusing on taking things slowly. Some may have noticed that I haven’t been on much. That is due to me spending a bit of time in the Florida Keys. It’s one of the most beautiful places I have been to, which is a nice change because I haven’t had many chances to have a vacation. I went to Mexico before with my neighbours in their RV. Health-wise, I still have issues, but I am focusing on living. I won’t go into that.

I’ll take an away point, promising things and equally some bits we need to improve upon.

Starting with the good, Stone looked very comfortable on the ball and was happy playing outside his own box. Nemane is looking like he’ll be a big threat to teams with his pace in behind as will Jones with his crossing, they were our main threats. A clean sheet is always a good thing, the defence has taken a bit of bashing by some so yesterday should be a real confidence boost.

We were dominate on the ball, made 600 passes but only had 9 shots. Morecambe made 130 and had 13 shots. I know shots doesn’t account for dangerous crosses/opportunities and nearly getting a toe on them moments, but both sides had a few of them.

It’s great we’ve carried on from last season in terms of style, but the criticism after that game, given the amount of ball we had, was failure to create openings. I agree with others on here that Morecambe could’ve been got at more, we just needed a bit more sharpness and cohesion with the runs and passing. Quicker passing at times too.

I think over the course of a long season we’ll create more as teams start to tire the chances will open up, right now everyone is fresh so the patient wait for gaps approach is not as effective.

He exhibited proficiency in ball handling, neatly concluding his goal and contributing significantly through his hard work. I would need to witness his performance on several more occasions before I could confidently assess his capabilities. Nonetheless, amidst their struggling squad, he managed to stand out.

He was fairly threatening on the day and had something about him. There was another lad, tall, gangly black youth. He looked good too. Couldn't quite tell if he was a chaos maker but a headless chicken, ala Elisha Sam, or he had genuine quality.

The issue I have is when you are playing in a poor team like Doncaster. It’s easy to think that the players who are performing well would look good because they stand out more. Yet they could be completely dire when embedded in a squad like ours, where the quality and standard are high. I would be less inclined to look unless he scored a handful of goals.

  15. Stone - 8 - though he made some excellent saves and let down for the clean sheet. Distribution good on the whole.

Baldwin - 6.5 - Decent, too many wayward simple passes.

Brindley - 9 - Again excellent in that role. Reads the game so we'll and his technical ability is excellent.

Cameron - 6.5 - Good on the whole, couple of cameron-esque mistakes. Not sure how he didn't get a yellow for diving on the ball and purposely handelling it.

Austin - 7.5 - A bit quiet in the first half, but his constant energy caused them issues in the second. Good deliveries.

Crowley - 7 - more quiet than usual, but kept it tidy and put some great balls in the box.

Palmer - 7 - quiet, but kept things ticking.

Bostock - 7 - looks a step above at times, however always has an error in him and almost did a Boreham wood V2 where he sells the defender short on a pass.

Jones - 8 - Menace down that side and got the goal he deserved.

Mcgoldrick - 5.5 - Didn't really work for him today.

Langstaff - 8.5 - Almost got his hat trick and was a little bit more involved in some play today. Warrior.

JOB - 5 - Looked good when he came on, but caught on the ball in our own box to surrender our clean sheet with seconds remaining.

Nemane - 6 - Didn't do a lot going forward, but tidy enough elsewhere.

    Rawlo - 6 - Decent.

    Chicksen - 6 - Steady.

Scott - 6.5 - Thought he looked good when he came on. Few nearly moments.

I find it challenging to assign distinct ratings to the performances; I believe the initial assessment provided is reasonable. David McGoldrick faced the challenge of handling difficult passes and had limited involvement in the game, so I'm inclined to concur.

The players were all above an acceptable level; there was no one lacking effort, and the team performed well. Might I suggest that we start giving a general score for the team’s performance as a whole?

Thank you for sharing the player ratings. I watched the game and thought we played very well. I was a little disappointed when they scored, and after Chicksen’s goal was deemed offside. I think we stopped attacking the game creatively after that point, and it became more about holding the ball, which led to the mistake that allowed them to score.

It looks like a good machine, if the ink is used completely before it’s empty, and it doesn’t cost you the earth to buy the ink. You will have made a great purchase with that.

Didn't get to see the game on Sunday. Went to Skegness Aquarium and trip to the beach but got back to the caravan for the 13 minutes added time.

Plenty of people were out and about around Ingoldmells and Skeggy in England tops, face paints and flags. Great to see how far the Women's football has come.

From what people have told me about the game and from the read up on the game, it didn't sound like the Lionesses played particularly good which is a shame really. But all that aside, it's a great achievement reaching 2 consecutive finals and it's only the Lionesses first competitive defeat under Wiegman.

The Lionesses can hold their heads high despite defeat.

    4. KB1862

Another bit of positivity the Lionesses can take from reaching the final of the World Cup is that they managed it at half capacity.

Leah Williamson, Fran Kirby and Beth Mead all out injured. Millie Bright was a doubt for tournament leading up to it Not to mention the likes of Jill Scott and Ellen White both retiring.

If they can achieve what they did with these sort of problems, imagine what they could do at full capacity.

It was a fantastic victory, a very impressive performance. I concur with the observations regarding Notts County gradually finding their stride within the match. I don't intend to come across as negative, but if Doncaster had adhered to their initial approach, we might have ended up with a draw. This is because they didn't tighten up the space that emerged as a result of their attempts to recover in the game. Therefore, while I won't criticise Jim O'Brien or any player for that matter, it's imperative that we eliminate the errors that lead to conceding goals. Furthermore, we need to devise strategies to make the teams we face spread out, instead of remaining in a defensive cluster. The support from all who attended was outstanding, and securing the 3 points was wonderful. I'm absolutely thrilled for Macaulay Langstaff.

The match provided a truly enjoyable viewing experience. Our impressive turnout of supporters added to the joy of the occasion. Even if we had brought along just 1,000 fans, I believe their enthusiasm and noise level would have been just as remarkable. Such passionate backing is truly remarkable and must be sustained. The special bond that has formed between the fans and the club needs to be nurtured. Victories like this should serve as stepping stones for the future. The goals scored during the match were all expertly constructed and executed.

Some of our fans have been saying that we only beat Doncaster Rovers because they were so poor. Surely, they didn’t go to the match? We may have had a bit of luck at times, but the referee seemed to be on their side. So, Notts still had a lot to do.

It was a confident performance in the second half. Even if we didn’t take our feet off the gas, someone out there would complain.

  19. I was watching the EFL highlights last night and in the game between Rotherham and Blackburn, Rotherhams Onyedinma was given a second yellow for gesturing to the referee for a Blackburn player to be given a yellow.

This is something that has irritated me for years when a player immediately goes up to a referee to try and get a player booked by gesturing a card with their hands. So it was great to see the referee hand out a yellow to a player doing just that.

I believe it was Julian Dicks mentioned this particular thing on That Peter Crouch Podcast. He said he was involved in a game where a player tried to get another sent off by gesturing to the referee about handing out a card. But as he put it, why are you trying to get another player carded or sent off?

Hopefully, this happens more often where players are booked for telling the referee to hand out cards.

On a side note, I did notice that Suttons number 9, who waved Stone off last weekend, was sent off and a Barrow player did a double wave when he was given his marching orders 😂

I see no room for debate on this matter, at least from my perspective. Even if a referee misuses this approach, its implementation would still deter players from engaging in such conduct. The issue of simulation and other unsportsmanlike tactics needs addressing. When a player rolls around as if he's been severely injured, it's usually a clear indicator that he isn't genuinely hurt. Genuine injuries are often accompanied by restricted movement or visible signs of distress. Most of the time, it's quite apparent who is genuinely injured. Additionally, players should receive cards for making gestures to influence officials into making the same decision.

Some refs do seem very trigger happy with the cards this season so its not a surprise. I didn't see the game though so can't say if it was right in this occasion.

    4. CliftonMagpie

      CliftonMagpie

It will require a considerable amount of time for the implementation to be executed in a manner that avoids resulting in a yellow card, a concern given the excessive number of such cards being issued to players this season. Alongside the occurrence of some puzzling card decisions, the game's consistency is being compromised. However, I do concur with the underlying principle.

A few players from Doncaster gestured towards the referee, one of them even managed to rise from the ground, seemingly after having been fouled, to signal a card motion. In a matter of moments, he transitioned from appearing injured to confronting the referee directly, yet he escaped a booking.

  20. I ordered two shirts for my grandsons last Thursday it said they’d be despatched the next day first class post but I’ve not received anything, I’m assuming they are busy with the shirts being just released. Do they send a message when they’ve dispatched them or is it just a case of waiting to see if they turn up does anyone know?

Let’s keep the discussion focused on the fact that the shirts are safely in the topic starter’s possession and that they’re content! It’s been resolved, so let’s celebrate that!

      KingMaynard

What size did your grandson end up obtaining? It's great that you got it sorted out. Well done for not complaining. Many other people would have made quite a mess of this experience, and although I feel there's room for annoyance, I don't think it should result in anything more than pointing out the mistake. That's the best way to learn.

Not exactly fortunate, but it would have been worse if they had sold out all the shirts and none were left, as you would then be compelled to await new stock or receive a refund. Kudos for handling the situation adeptly, @Fan of Big Tone.
