It's good that the club has started a proper women's team, instead of the renamed Lincoln team with high costs and little income compared to when it's done right.4 points

Met Office verdict on freezing blizzard this week with UK set to be colder than Iceland. I’ve had a very very authentic sounding call from o2 offering me 40% off my current bill, I actually fell for it at the beginning. They seemed knew my email address and sent a text message with a code, they then asked me to tell them the code which stupidly I told them then they sent an email with a link to reset my password this is where I got suspicious and terminated the call. I switched my phone off and back on again to make sure they weren’t still on the line and immediately phoned o2 who checked my account and advised me to change my password, they also said they’d never ask for a code number they’d sent in a text which I should have known. Luckily they didn’t get into my account but if I’d gone ahead and changed my password from their link they would have been able to access the account and buy phones etc. I think because they knew my email they were able to try to access my account which sends an official text with a code to my phone which because it was definitely from o2 I was happy to give them. Thankfully the warning bells sounded when they asked me to click a link to change my password. I am normally very wary of calls like this but this was very clever and very believable so please beware if you are an o2 customer.3 points

The forecast is usually never right. We were supposed to have a mega storm over Christmas, but we never had any snow. I know some got a very light covering, but I don't think we'll be affected by this. Usually when the bad weather is coming in, we are alerted at work and have to make arrangements to be mindful of the campus and grounds.3 points

I like the changes, it makes the forum look much neater, and that's a bonus. I don't often comment, but I've always preferred the multiple forum setup here. It organizes things well, on top of all the ways to join in. I think that deserves a comment.3 points

Notts have now played their 27th game of the Season, since their return to League 2. They finished last season on 117 goals from 46 Games in the National League plus the 5 goals they scored in open play in the two playoff games. So in 73 league games since the beginning of last season, not counting the playoffs, Notts have scored 177 goals, a remarkable number, which relates to an average of 2.42 goals scored per game, & with our current style of play & our current attacking force, there seems no end to it. If this current rate of scoring is maintained, Notts will surpass 100 goals again this season, which would be a fantastic achievement. The number of goals that we are conceding is very much a concern, & the Management will want to address it very quickly. What we do know is that Notts are a big threat to any opposing defense in this league and every team will be wary of us, home or away. If we can sort out our defensive frailties in our last 19 games, I am still very optimistic that we can make the playoffs, & if we do, no team would want to face us, with the damage our attacking force can wreak on them.2 points

I’ve been chatting with @super_ram on another topic about quiz shows so I thought I’d open up the discussion on its own thread. Do you watch quiz shows? What’s your favourite? We regularly watch Pointless which is different in that you have to come up with an obscure answer. We also like Tipping Point on channel 4. Whats your favourite?2 points

Yes that’s right or in my case greed But to be honest the reason I believed it at first was that I have had Virgin phone me up before and give me a better deal than I was on I was really sceptical about that to start with but it turned out to be true, that’s why I was open to believing the O2 offer. I’ve learnt my lesson and I’ll be very careful in future.2 points

They're annoying. I don't answer calls from unknown numbers, but even then numbers can be spoofed. It's good to know you didn't get scammed @Fan of Big Tone, I think it sounded way too good to be true, but it's that hope which distracts you.2 points

we either tend to miss the snow, or it ends up as rain or we get covered in it. i dont mind it, i also like football games when the brighter balls are out. from a weather point of view, whatever comes we just have to get on and make the best of it.2 points

I wish he wouldn't share that @Robbie, somebody might find out! We're on course to score 100 and let in 88. Insane. As @Chris says, even our defenders are attack-minded. That's not a fluke, it's a strategy, but we need to strike the right balance and it probably won't be as simple as signing one or two players. That said, it's about entertainment and the last few years have been an absolute privilege in that respect.2 points

Huddersfield Town 1-1 Plymouth Argyle Millwall 1-3 Middlesbrough Northampton Town 1-1 Wigan Athletic Reading v Port Vale - abandoned Wycombe Wanderers 1-1 Lincoln City Accrington Stanley 1-2 Gillingham Doncaster Rovers 0-1 Newport County Eastleigh 0-1 Southend United --- The lack of home wins, and Wycombe's pathetic failure to hold onto a 1-0 lead, means this was a low-scoring round. High scoring teams can commonly be disappointing at the other end, but solid teams make sure that they are comfortable at the back. A good manager can take over a team that is leaking goals, transform them or at least allow them to show their actual potential. Steve Cotterill in 2009 for us is a prime example, I think defensively we were quite good but could have been better. We were able to score, but sometimes we weren't as focused overall as we could have been. We have a fantastic squad now and are blessed with attacking options, but even our defenders are more attacking minded. The stats are very good to see because it shows the work the players are putting in, but our next manager needs to tighten things up and keep the ship more balanced so that we can score without fearing of conceding or conceding then needing to pull level.2 points

I must admit I can’t remember Quizball I can remember other quiz shows from the 60s such as Take Your Pick with Michael Miles. We renamed Eggheads to “Smugheads” those eggheads are so far up themselves.2 points

Please remember never to provide sensitive information to any cold callers! This will eliminate 99% of scams, as without obtaining your details they cannot do anything. It's very easy to be fooled! Don't feel bad about this; it can happen to anyone when their guard is down. The rule of thumb is to avoid handing over passwords, bank details, or gift card codes. Scammers are able to replicate official-looking texts, emails, etc., but be doubtful. If you're unsure, ask to call back later and say you'll phone thep company directly. If they start getting jittery or make excuses, put the phone down. In the US, offers must be extended to allow you to think about them. I am not so sure about the UK, but I would assume it would be similar and therefore not allowed to pressure you into a sale.2 points

Classic "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" is my favourite. I prefer game shows over quiz-based ones; I can't stand "The Chase." The Chasers may have become less direct and more focused on themselves. It just doesn't appeal to me and reminds me of "Eggheads," which was a good show, but with people you can't stand.2 points

I don't think they will appoint someone who has never taken charge of a professional club. If they do, then he must have something about him, but I think you need to have some experience if we are to try to climb the leagues. We won't go up with a manager who is always picking up new things. Luke Williams and Ian Burchnall each had something about them before arriving. I will support whoever comes in, but I think it's a mistake to believe that someone who has never been in charge of a club at a professional level can match our current growth.2 points

POTS so far: Dan Crowley. Best performance: Morecambe. Best opposition: Mansfield. Worst opposition: I'll go with Doncaster too, but Bradford get the honourable mention though for worst 45 mins. Best away day: Harrogate (it wasn't but I've got no other choice here!) Who I'd appoint: I said Stephen Bradley in the new manager topic so I'll stick with him.2 points

I was going to post this on here but you've beat me to it @Piethagoram If I was answering my own question POTS so far: Jodi Jones Best performance: Morecambe (H) Best opposition: Them (if not Lincoln) Worst opposition: Doncaster Best away day: Gillingham Who I'd appoint: Andy Crofts/Paddy McCarthy2 points

You won’t believe this @super_ram but we’ve said exactly the same thing. We often comment “the man with the magnet is at it again” sometimes the counter swerves alarmingly out of its path a magnet is the only answer.2 points
-
I like pointless when it's a subject I'm familiar with so I can join in with.Tipping point is also enjoyable but I'm convinced there is someone inside the machine with a magnet causing the counter to ride or to end up disadvantageously. There are a lot of Quiz shows I like to watch, the 2 above,Who wants to be a millionaire ,The Chase and loads more but one from a while back that I i liked was Wipeout with Paul Daniels and then Bob Monkhouse. I watched A Question of sport a lot when I was younger,too2 points

Maca now just six goals away from making it 100 goals in his last three seasons. 32 at Gateshead, 42 last season for Notts, & the first player in the EFL to reach 20 this season. His value is now in the £millions. Notts have made a great investment, on and off the field. And there's much more to come from our Goalscoring talisman.2 points

I believe Stuart Maynard will be our next gaffer, not due to bookies’ odds but his success with Wealdstone. His career aligns with what the brothers seek, someone stable and unsacked.2 points

I haven't paid much attention to the forum's index page, but reading the discussion, it sounds very productive. I would agree that a general sports forum would be best until we know if any deserve their own, but I think that might be some time off yet. Let's continue to make PON a good option for fans to chat.2 points

Yes, Notts Women's team now has a forum for all their discussions - including any match based ones. So if it's related to the ladies team, that's where it goes. I have also added a general sports forum. Thanks, @Robbie. ---- Additionally, I have updated all the forums descriptions. On the community index page, Notts forums are at the top, followed by PON, then All things related to sports. English, Domestic World Football, International and the 'Sports Stage'. https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/community/forum/27-the-sports-stage-everything-outside-of-football/ Admin announcements are at the very bottom, partly to encourage people to view the bottom end of the site and because I like using the announcement feature to pin important posts, which makes it more convenient to have the section out of the way. As suggested by @Burnz3r0, I will also rewrite the welcome message new members get sent automatically - along with updating the introduction section.2 points

I remember Matty Gill, Gary Mills played him out of position, transfer listed him and he quickly became a target for the boo boys. He didn't have a good time with us, but went on to have a decent career. However, both of our appointments under the brothers have had experience as the number one, so I can't see it happening. As for Stendel, he led Barnsley to promotion but didn't pull up many trees after that. He's currently managing the B team of Hannover 96, who are top of the Regionalliga Nord, Germany's regional fourth division. Not sure how I'd feel about that. But the owners tend to look at coaching credentials rather than the managerial track record, otherwise Luke Williams wouldn't have got the job.2 points
-
I’d be worried if it was a coach who’s come straight from an academy. It would be a massive risk, academy football isn't the same as men's competitive football. Simon Rusk was the next big thing but he didn’t work out at Stockport. And this season David Horseman at FGR really struggled. Most coaches have to start there I get that but I’d hope we’d look for someone who’s progressed into the men’s game at some point, be that as a head coach or assistant coach.2 points

Really pleased with this signing. I know it might be just a game but this has been my go to first loan signing in the past 3 editions of Football Manager. So I hope he's as good for Notts in real life as he has been for me on Football Manager. However, you do have to wonder when Tiernan Brooks will be given an opportunity. I read a comment on twitter that made me chuckle with agreement that read something like he'll be 30 and still being sent out on loan to gain experience. It just seems that whenever there's a chance he could grab an opportunity, it's taken away by bringing in a loan goalkeeper that puts him further back in the pecking order.1 point

If the brothers past 2 appointments are anything to go by, we're unlikely to know who is the running until the appointment. No doubt the usual social media culprits will claim they are 'in the know' but they'll likely know diddly squat. The only way we tend to find out about these movings is if we're after a manager currently employed and the leak will come from the other club, see Altrincham and Swansea.1 point
