Notts County head coach Stuart Maynard has expressed his full support for forward Cedwyn Scott, who has been granted a leave of absence due to ongoing struggles with depression. The 25-year-old player, who has endured a difficult period on and off the pitch, has been lauded by his manager for his bravery in openly discussing his mental health. Maynard, speaking ahead of Notts County’s clash with AFC Wimbledon at Meadow Lane, revealed that Scott’s battle has been ongoing for some time. "He’s been struggling for a while, Ceds," Maynard admitted. "He’s had a very difficult time, and even if you go back to last season with his injury, being out for most of the season, footballers want to play. It’s a release in a sense, playing week in, week out on the pitch in front of the fans. I think Ceds has struggled for a while, and we’ve been talking about it, but as a football club, we support him and back him. The key thing is supporting and backing him." Maynard emphasised the importance of Scott’s decision to come forward and speak about his mental health, acknowledging how much courage it takes to do so in an environment like professional football. "It’s huge credit to himself to be able to come out and talk about it because it’s a massive strength. I feel that we, as a football club and a management team, we’re a supportive club. We talk to our players a lot about lots of things because we want to make sure that if you’re happy off the pitch, when you come into work it’s got to be a good environment. Then you perform to the best of your ability." The Notts County manager stressed the role of the club in creating a positive, open atmosphere where players feel comfortable discussing their personal challenges. "We’re always talking to the players and making sure they’re okay on and off the pitch. It’s a huge credit to Ceds to be able to come out and openly talk about it. We wish him the best, and we’re supporting him in every way we can to make sure we get him right and back enjoying his football as soon as possible." Scott, who has struggled with injuries in the past, has faced the difficulty of being sidelined, a challenge that many footballers find isolating. "It’s a lonely place when you get injured, especially long-term injuries," Maynard explained. "Initially, you’re around the group, but then you end up with different rehab programmes, whether it’s gym sessions or not being out on the grass for a long period of time, so it’s very lonely. People think it’s always a team environment, but it’s very different for a player who’s not able to train and be close to the group." When asked about the resources available to players like Scott, Maynard reassured fans that the club is doing everything possible to help him during this challenging time. "There are means in place to support him and get him help with a counsellor. The PFA (Professional Footballers' Association) has been very good and supportive as well. There are lots of channels that you can gain support from, but the biggest thing is admitting it and wanting help, and that’s what’s brilliant with Ceds. He’s admitted he’s struggling, and now he can get the help." Despite the setback, Maynard remains confident that Scott will return to football stronger and ready to contribute. "We back him. We know he’s a top player and that he’ll be influential for us when he comes back, but there’s no pressure. We’ve just got to support him in the right way, and he’ll be back when he’s ready. There’s no timescale for us." As Notts County prepares for their upcoming match, the focus remains on providing support for Scott. The club, in line with Maynard’s vision, is committed to ensuring that their players’ well-being comes first, both on and off the pitch. A lot of respect for Cedwyn Scott. Hope he comes back stronger. Massive credit to the club for supporting him so well.6 points

Stuart Maynard really highlights how lonely it can be for a footballer dealing with long-term injuries. I can’t imagine the frustration Cedwyn must have felt being sidelined for so long, and it’s amazing that the club has provided the support he needs. It's such a relief to see that the conversation around mental health is changing in football, where it used to be a taboo subject. Cedwyn speaking out is not only a massive step for him personally but will also inspire others in similar situations.6 points
-
It’s great to see the club backing Cedwyn through this tough time. Mental health is just as important as physical fitness.6 points

I'm very pleased that the Club is supporting Cedwyn. I know that the club will ensure that Cedwyn gets all the support he needs.5 points

There has been talk about something not quite being right. It's a shame that some people thought his performances were about him not being good enough for League Two, but how were they to know Cedwyn Scott has been struggling mentally? I wish him all the very best. I hope he can come back happier. His injury has caused him some issues, but I am sure he will come good. I wonder if his depression is also impacted by the loss of his friend, Macaulay Langstaff. Either way, it's not nice, and I send him my fullest support.5 points
-
its good that the club and that stuart maynard are supporting cedwyn scott, i hope the time helps him and that he still plays a part in attending games because he should not be alone. he just needs to do what is best for him, the club is doing their part and as fans we can do ours.5 points

You could post some comments/replies, log out for the day and then the next day log in to be greeted with a list of notifications all with “your comment has been down voted”. It probably would put you off posting. I know most wouldn’t take it to heart, but some would and it would be sad to think they are either upsetting people or not posting good points. I think the way we can quote certain parts of a post is good enough if you want to disagree and reply to a comment.4 points

Cedwyn Scott masks his struggles well, as I would never have guessed. I think it's a shame that he has taken so long to open up about it. Don't misquote me, it's good he has, but the moment it becomes a problem, I would hope any player would know the majority of fans would only want him to be happy and that Notts would support them. I guess Scott tried to be brave and keep it inside. It's good he's come out and is seeking the help needed.4 points

@Wheelbarrow repair man I have to admit I don’t read every post on here and I’m sure the other mods don’t either but if you seriously think that someone is being insulting or abusing you in personal messages then you should report it to @Chris or the mods.3 points

It’s good to see Notts handling Cedwyn’s situation with such care. Mental health issues are often swept under the rug in football, but Maynard and the club have made it clear that they are fully supporting Cedwyn Scott through this tough time. As fans, we sometimes forget the pressure these players are under, especially when injuries keep them off the pitch for extended periods. It’s great to hear that Cedwyn has found the strength to talk about his struggles, and hopefully, he’ll return to the pitch when he’s fully ready. Hats off to the club for treating this with the seriousness it deserves.3 points

I personally don't think it is necessary to have a down button. If you don't agree with someone's post then you simply don't have to like it. The post will go unliked. Of course no one is going to agree on everything in this World or even in relation to Notts sometimes. But I think that having a down emoji would be a negative move. I think that a down button would just reduce debate, which we need to encourage, not discourage. What I would like to see is more engagement & debate on PON. We hardly ever see any debate on the Articles posted by PON news for instance3 points

Well as I say it’ll be @Chris’s decision so we’ll have to see what others say and what Chris thinks, personally I don’t think an anonymous thumbs down or whatever would do anything to promote harmony, I’d rather put my point across and if people disagree then we agree to disagree amicably, we can’t all agree all the time.3 points

All The Very Best Cedwyn. Not really Surprised the Poor Guy has Struggled to get his Career back on Track after the Injury he suffered, and Playing a Different Role which he's found difficult to Adapt too hasn't helped with his Recovery, there will be all kinds of things going through his Mind and Questions he'll be asking himself. Thankfully there is Help for Modern Footballers from Experts. Where in the Past a Player may have resorted to Alcohol or Even Drugs, these Days hopefully Ceds will Get The Expert Advice he needs to Regain His Confidence and He Will Be Able To Come Back Mentally Stronger and Produce the Performances in a Black & White Shirt We All Know He's Capable Of. Good Luck Fella, Notts Fans Have Got Your Back.3 points

could his injury niggle be a bit more serious and in turn causing cedwyn scott to have a harder time? he always seems a pretty happy guy, but it goes to show. it leaves us a bit short but his wellbeing in important. i am glad notts has given him some time off. has it been stated for how long he will be on leave?3 points

Good news for Notts, Rod McDonald & Lucas Ness are coming back to match fitness & in Rod McDonald's case, he is available for selection. Up till now, Stuart Maynard has had a settled back line for the first ten games, Lewis Macari, Jacob Bedeau, & Matty Platt have done superbly, with Rob Cundy filling in off the bench Stuart McDonald has impressed Stuart when playing for Notts in two EFL trophy games & Lucas Ness impressed playing his first 45 minutes of the season in the 2nd of those games. There has been talk of McDonald replacing Macari in the first 11. Question. Do PON members think Stuart should make a change to the back three for the upcoming games or stick with the three defenders who have performed well of late?2 points

After several Attempts to get in Touch with the PON Team only to be Told that they weren't able to My Receive My Message, I've decided to ask my Question in Granny Pies General Discussion Section here on the PON Website. My Question is, Why isn't there a Down Vote of Dislike Button on the PON Website? After All We're All Grown Ups and I'm sure a Down Vote or Dislike against on Your Comment on a Certain Debate, isn't the End Of The World. I'm sure Fans on here a Big Enough To Accept the Fact, that Other Members Don't Agree with them on All Subjects, the Nearest thing to a Down Vote is a Sad Emoji which Doesn't Really Cover Everything. There Must be a way a Member can Down Vote Something, But Not have their Name Attached, in case there's a Worry it make start an Argument between Members. Personally If I Don't Agree with What's Been Said by a Certain Member at the Moment I Simply Ignore that Comment and Don't Engage With Them. But I would like the Opportunity To Register My Disagreement. It certainly Wouldn't Bother Me, If Another Member Disagreed with Me, As I Feel It Would Make The Debate More Open. Or is this Considered to Controversial ? Or Is it Simply Not The Done Thing? Or It's Been Tried Before and Stirred Up To Much Hassle Between Certain Members? I Would Genuinely Like To Know. And Are There Any Other Members Who Would Like A Down Vote Button? Thanks.2 points

Yes, I was under the impression that that's why we're able to give feedback. So, there seems to be a setting or bug issue. I have asked a friend well more reversed in the settings, I go back to using this software when it was alpha of the first version. However, I openly admit the ACP changes so much over the years I haven't really kept with it. Permissions has always been a bug bear though, as there are several areas and other forum solutions do seem to keep them in one logical area. You have user permissions, moderation permissions, group permissions etc. Some features have their own, which isn't very organised, but I will look into it.2 points

I haven’t seen anything like what you describe @Wheelbarrow repair man I don’t think anyone on here behaves like that at least I hope not.2 points

@Wheelbarrow repair man I certainly believe that there should be certain words that bring up an alert such as ludicrous, (Seriously in a condescending context) Any sort of comment that is posted to belittle, wind up or upset. Did you know you can hide topics that you don't want to see such as politics. You can also hide members you don't want to converse with Personally, I wouldn't hide anyone because you don't see any threads they've started on your Dashboard.2 points

Cheers @Robbie It's Kind Of You To Say. It would seem that Most Fans in these Comments are Not In Favour of a Down Vote Button, which is Fair Enough. However Personally I Think there are Reasons for One. But I Guess I'm in the Minority. One of the Main Reasons I'd like to see a Down Vote Button is the Fact that Certain PON Members Show A Total Lack of Respect for Others on this Platform. No Matter what's said There are Members who will disagree has they seem to Get Some Kind of Kick to Winding Up Their Fellow Members, and a Down Vote Button would certainly Show which Members are trying to Destroy the Harmony within the Site. Even if One was Introduced I Don't think it would be used a Lot, but it would Certainly be better than Somebody Losing Their Cool and Send Insulting Messages to a Fellow Member and Receiving an Insulting Message back. Then the Battle Lines would be Drawn with one set of Members siding with one Member, while others will Side with the Other Member. And that Could Happen Because People Will only Be Pushed So Far, Then BOOM All Hell Breaks Loose. I Have My Own Method of Dealing My Anger and That Is I Step Away from the Site for a Couple of Days or I Simply Don't Engage With That Member, Ignoring What they Say When I See Their Name In My Reaction Box. But Thanks To All Members Who Have Expressed Their Opinion. Even If You're All Wrong and I'm The Only One Who Is Right. PS What About Having The Ability To Block A Member From Reading Your Topics? To Much? Maybe.2 points

By the way I think it is good to have this debate too. Kudos to @Wheelbarrow repair manfor starting the topic.2 points

Good to see Maynard and the club handling this with care. Cedwyn’s health must come first, no matter how long it takes.2 points

Cedwyn Scott has done the right thing by opening up, asking for time, and seeking the appropriate support channels. This won't be an easy challenge for him to face, but we as fans can't allow him to feel like football is more important than his happiness. At the same time, we must offer him the support needed to show that once he does return that we will continue to be by his side. As a Notts player, his wellbeing is important but on a human level, his happiness and mental health is even more vital. Speaking from personal experience, people say it's brave to open up but some, like myself, can find speaking openly helpful. The worst part is if you don't have that support network, or if you seem to lose those you thought were your friends whilst struggling. Loneliness can be part of it, but depression is much more. It's a horrible thing to experience, so offering support is what helps. Again, I stress this isn't me making it about myself - but I relate to it.2 points

Really sad to hear, I just hope he gets the answers he’s looking for and that time out to just reassess everything in his life. When you have a season out and then come back but keep picking up injuries, it must be very frustrating. And he’s watched two players he was very close to in Ruben and Macca move on and into the Championship. At 25 he’s still young and capable of achieving a lot in football, I really hope he comes back refreshed, in a good place and able to have a good second half of the season with us.2 points

@CliftonMagpie Absolutely. Unfortunately I would think like Most Men Ceds would have thought his Problems were Something he had to Cope with alone, after all he's a Bloke and Men Don't have Problems That is A Sign of Weakness and Men Don't like Showing their Weakness, So they Hide It. Most Male PON Members have gone through something like this themselves. Ignore It and It'll Go Away, whether it's Going to the Doctors or the Dentist or Whatever. Thankfully ( and I use the Term Loosely ) something May have Happened to Ceds while he was with Family or Friends and It Suddenly Clicked and he Realized He Didn't like the Person he was becoming, something like that became his Eurika Moment and He Knew He Needed Help. Thankfully there are Experts that Can and Will Help Him.2 points

@Fan of Big Tone I was just Interested in Why there was No Down Vote Button. The Reason Why I don't write Down My Disagreement with PON Members I Don't Agree With Is even if I put forward my Disagreement with them, in a Calm and Respectful Manner, it Strikes Me there are Certain Members on this Platform that Just Disagree with Me and Other Members Just for the Hell of It. They Come across across as they'll Agree With You Providing You Agree with their Agender But should you show any Slight difference of Opinion, they Come Back with Further Disagreement, Even If You Provide Facts. Unfortunately that is the Way of The World Nowadays. And I just thought a Down Vote Button that can be hit Anonymously could be A Way of Displaying your Disagreement without getting into an Online Argument, which wouldn't be beneficial to Either of the Two Members Arguing Nor the PON Site As A Whole. Even @Chris or any PON team Member comes back to me and Says We Don't think a Down Vote Button is a Good Idea, Then Fair Enough it's just the Opinion is available in Other Places, I just wondered Why Not PON? Regarding Not Being able to send Messages to the PON Team that might be a Left over thing from My Laptop Playing Up On Another Occasion. Originally I was going to ask a Team Member the Reason Why there wasn't a Down Vote Privately, because I thought it maybe a Controversial Question, then after I couldn't get any answer, I decided to Ask the Question Anyway.2 points

I’m not sure whether a down vote is a good idea it may cause a bit of unrest but I’m sure @Chris will consider it and if he thinks it’s a good idea will make the necessary adjustments, @Wheelbarrow repair man if you disagree with someone’s post surely you can politely say so and tell them why you disagree? That’s what debate is all about, if you put forward your counter argument in a polite way I think everyone here would respect your opinion. Incidentally I’m not sure why you can’t message people there shouldn’t be a problem.2 points

Hi all, back in 2010 I purchased 1 of 100 commemorative bottles of whisky celebrating 100 years at Meadow Lane. It's in the loft for the grandchildren. Has anyone else got one, there were 100. Has anyone opened it? Is it a decent dram? I've done a search online and there's no record out there.2 points

at some point we will see someone have success with 442, and more teams will revert back to it. sometimes tactics are not as much about what we think, but more about the quality in the team. some good managers can give good instructions and set their teams up well. i do think most tend to have talk of tactics but really its just staying to the same system they have been working on. tactics for me adapts and changes when needed.2 points

the scenarios you could do with something like this, even if both contestants did not fight or foul each other. it could be very funny! the cross bar challenge is something, but its always pretty safe. get the third choice keeper to be in the net after an obstacle course and allow fans to take a shot to win a grand prize.2 points

Wimbledon should be pushing for promotion this season. They are a well organized side. The kind of side that does well at Meadow Lane. I sound like a broken record but we need to start beating the sides around us. I don't think we'll do that this weekend, an away win is my prediction.....2 points

So Wimbledon in their first 4 away games haven't really done much. They've scored 1 goal and that was in the only game they won. They've draw one and lost the other 2. I can't see it being a big scoring match, I'll be pleasantly surprised if we score 3+ because I think Wimbledon are going to follow the approach of both Gillingham and Port Vale. I'll be dreading it if they take the lead because then they really will just sit back, cos even a 1-1 would be a good result for them. We've got to show some signs we know how to deal with teams that are just going to sit deep, consider Gillingham and Port Vale the practice matches now, this one is quite a big game in a way. I like @Robbie's team but I'd go slightly more attacking and put Austin in for Robertson. Didzy and Jatta as a pairing, with Crowley and Austin slightly ahead of Palmer in flexible 3-5-2 formation, just have Palmer sit and stop any counters through the middle.2 points

His nationality doesn't matter. What is important is his ability to get the best out of the players he chooses and his knowledge of tactics. All this "I would have rather had an English manager" is a fairytale belief because there are few good enough English managers ready for such a big appointment. Unfortunately, this is just how it is. While I would love to see Eddie Howe in the role, he has plenty of time yet for this to happen. If not Howe, then who? Lee Carsley was an interesting decision, but I don't think the F.A wanted him either. All this complaining is part of the issue with England. We have a manager now, and we need to get on with it.2 points

I agree with @Wheelbarrow repair man on some of his points but as I said previously, I think a down button would just open a can of worms. If a post hasn't been liked in a conversation or a debate I think that is enough to send a message. Let's be honest, the report function is used very sparingly on this board because 99.9% of the time there is no issue. I've only seen the vast majority of issues with the political threads that bring out lots of emotions, but political threads are now tucked away in its own sub forum. Again. If we can agree on words that should be avoided that could cause offence, I think that would solve any issues that any members may have.1 point

@Fan of Big Tone I have Never Had any Personal Messages of Abuse Aimed at Me. No My Gripe is with People Who Continue to Show Disrespect to Members who offer their Opinions and who seem (to me at Least) to go out of their way to Disagree with the Members Comments on Purpose. That of Course is all down to the way people see things what seems to be Disrespect to Me, May Not Appear to be Disrespect to you, and even the Poster of the Comment may Not Consider It Disrespectful ,just another Members Opinion, but with the Placing of a Down Vote Button and it's use May give that Person Pause For Thought Before Continuing Their Negative Repeated Comments.1 point

Stuart Maynard must be pleased that his team is continuing to show character determination and the will to fight back when they concede goals. Stuart should also be pleased that his team selection worked out quite well for him too George Abbott played so well at right wing back, a position he hadn't played for Notts before, but you wouldn't have thought that was the case, he was so comfortable there. Stuart's substitutions worked out well too, Didzy came on and scored a goal after his penalty was saved by their goalie. Notts's unbeaten away run goes on & long may it continue. All they have to do is win at home in their next match against Wimbledon.1 point
