Game 33 - The Hatters (A)
Team: Stockport County
Date: 12/03/2022
Where: Edgeley Park

What line-up should Ian Burchnall opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?
Have your say below, join in with the Pride of Nottingham match discussion.
Mitchell and Jaros will miss the Boreham Wood and Chesterfield games to play for their respective countries.
Also Jim O’Brien messaged and rightly so called out some so called fans that used the news to have a dig at these players. Commenting like that right under the post just isn’t on.
Brindley and Cal have been called up for the England C team with Woots and Palmer on standby too. They play Wales C on Wed 30th March, no idea if they’ll miss any games but that’s in between the Chesterfield and Southend game…
We are struggling with illness and injuries at the moment, great news for the players but it's not come at an ideal time for us!

Bit disappointing to go out at this stage but we always had bigger fish to fry this season, unfortunately we look like ending the season as also rans unless something changes very quickly.

Jaros 6.5 Couldnt be faulted for any of the goals. so nearly saved the penalty for Solihull's opener, then wrongly adjudged by the hopeless ref for a 2nd penalty, linesman overruled
DKE 6 Combative, bordering on a red card
Rawlinson 6 Game made for his heading
Lacey 7 Great header to score from a corner
Chicksen 6 Got exposed defensively at times for not putting in a challenge
Francis 5 sometimes too easily challenged in midfield
Vincent 5 effort yes, but quality wasnt there
Brunt 5 hit the post, coudnt make things happen
Ruben 8 motm .... 2 goals 1 assist
Wootton 7 a better game than recent performances, lovely through ball to Ruben
Roberts 5 Anonymous 2nd half

Another two points we could scarcely afford to drop, at precisely the moment when teams who are serious about promotion are building momentum. Was it as bad as I've been hearing?
It was worse @DangerousSausage
Started off quite promising for the first few minutes. Yeovil started the game with the high press, but we managed to get through it and created a couple of really good chances. We then went right off the boil and the rest of the half was pretty average.
Second half we were woeful. Awful header from Francis to put us in a mess and although Jaros managed to block the first effort, he had no chance with the goal as he was out of his area.
Never put them under any real pressure and got lucky with the equaliser.
Highlight of the day for me was the Melee. Tempers were frayed, so our response was to bring on that timid soul DKE! Their number 14 was subbed to stop him getting sent off from another foul and I thought Ruben was going to go with his reactions to the ref not giving him anything.
I think at the moment unless something changes, we'll struggle to make the playoffs, we're not a big or physical enough a side and if teams press us we struggle as we only have one playing style.

That's a good summary. Based on the clear cut chances we created in the first half it's a game we should have won, but once we had given them a goal we were truly awful and a bit fortunate that their marking was lacking in stoppage time. We look good when we are on it, but hard working, well organised, but limited teams like Yeovil cause us more problems than they should. I think we'll make the playoffs, but winning them looks a bit of a dream at the moment.

Woking can be difficult to break down. Given the number of chances Notts need to create to score a single goal, it could be a long afternoon. 0-0 I reckon.
Good result, but I would have been disappointed had we not won.
Good result, and great to hear that Eli Sam is hitting form! It's looking tight again and if we don't fritter away our game in hand we could be right in the mix for the top three. Need snookers for top spot, but it's not impossible.

Artist NameJohn Alfred Arnesby Brown (1866-1955)
TitleVictorian Nottingham City Landscape 1887
Description A superb British Victorian city landscape oil painting by noted Nottingham born artist John Arnesby Brown, painted in 1887. This rare early work is a product of Arnesby Brown's time studying in his home town at Nottingham School of Art in the late 1880s. Even at this date Brown revealed himself to be far ahead of many of his contemporaries in his approach to subject matter. Rather than a tightly painted topographical record of the city, he presents us with an already impressionistic and highly evocative view of an industrial city centre, together with the restless bustle of its street life. The work is rich with contemporary reference; the wall of advertisements in the background referring to a performance by one of the most lauded sopranos of the century, Adelina Patti, on a tour to Nottingham's recently opened theatre with Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado (one of the duo's most successful operettas). A really atmospheric twilight view of Nottingham's Victorian past by a noted Nottingham artist.
Signed with monogram and dated lower left AB/87.

As of today there's a new, six-part podcast about our very own fake sheikh Russell King and his ownership of Notts. I'm going to listen to the first episode in a few minutes, but I'm sure it'll be an interesting listen.
It's on the BBC Sounds app or at this link:

Agree with @Fozzy. However, its just another game, where we concede another "stupid" goal. Sharpness in front of goal, Wootton had another of his "off" games. Ruben and Cal couldnt find the space for their shooting skills. Sam, really close to scoring with another 2 efforts. Is it just me, but when Kairo comes on, I have no confidence that he will score
Top spot is a big ask, just feels like we've been eight for an eternity now, luckily our game in hand is against Dover...
Yeah, I hate this whole thing with referees that once they’ve sent someone off they all of sudden become very lenient with that team. The one thing you could’ve guaranteed if one of those penalty shouts had been at our end Halifax would’ve got one.
I’d like to know the stats regarding us (or just the teams in the NL) and red cards, is it really a big advantage anymore? We usually do okay whenever we go down to 10! I remember the first game against Halifax in this league, Doyle got sent off but we scored and got a 1-0 win. Last night Solihull went down to 10 and they won. Woking also went down to 10, they went 1-0 down but got a goal back and drew...

Really comfortable on the ball
He came through the youth system at Crewe

Jaros 4 Decision making all wrong for the halifax goal. Should have been more decisive in coming for the ball.
Chicksen 6 Comfortable in possession, though wish he could get to the by line more
Cameron 6 Missed a crucial chance when seemed easier to score
Brindley 7 Reading the game much better now. Some strong runs
Richardson 6 Better 1st half, we just seem to miss going down the right second half
Francis 6 Looks better alongside Palmer. Needed more positivity going forward
Palmer 6 Tidy but the unlocking pass just wasnt there
Rodrigues 6 Some good movement but sometimes no one was making the run needed
Roberts 6 Again better 1st half, well marked
Sam 7.5 (motm) a thunderbolt of a shot, saw one cannon off the post. Looks "a player" rather than a clumsy liability... well deserved motm award too
Wootton 5.5 Sharpness eluded him, some good chances missed

There seems to be a bug/illness in the squad. Players vomiting at half time. No wonder the performance wasn't up to scratch. I think Notts should request a postponement of the next game. No way players will have recovered fully by Saturday.
A bizarre one then, it leaves me with more questions than answers.
Could we have actually postponed that game? I don’t think you can do it for Covid now...
But if 50% of that matchday squad were ill, then why even bother playing them. We were never going to get anything from the game if we had players trying to play when they were clearly in no physical condition to do so.
And then does that mean we had fit players on the bench? Lacey and Rawlo were highlighted as particularly struggling. I’d have played only non-ill players and just taken the hit. Just explain to us that you can't postpone the game but some players were just too ill. If that meant Woots and Chicks as a center back pairing and Doyle and D-KE as the CM pairing, so be it. Chances are the result would’ve been the same anyway.
Also sadly for what is our season defining month, it’s not going well. I still think we have a good chance of finishing in the play-offs we’ve got an easy run in (on paper) but I just think if we have to play a team in the play-offs away from home (very likely), right now I just can’t see us progressing.
I thought we requested a postponement for this and Dagenham @Dripsey3... This would have been a hard enough game without all the illness, Stockport are a very different proposition now to earlier in the season.
Instead of playing ill players, I'd have dipped into the youth team. But that's easy to say after the event, and the result wouldn't have been any different.
