  1. Slocombe 8 - Distribution good and made two excellent saves

Brindley 6 - Bit asleep in the first half. Got slightly better in the 2nd

Rawlinson 6 - Did well coping with Inih Effiong. May have been at fault for the 2nd goal

Turner 6 - As with Connell, dealt well with Effiong and passes the ball well. Sometimes caught napping

Bakayogo 7 - Got well down the left. Defended strongly

Osborne 6 - Did ok first half. Got better as the half went on. Substituted second

Rose 6 - Penalty tucked away nicely. Works hard but too many times he goes back with the ball

Booty 7 - Always looks for that forward pass. Was our best hope of unlocking the Dover defence. Comfortable in possession

Boldewijn 7 - Ran forward with the ball and bought the play into Dover's half. A constant threat.

Thomas 5 - He gets into good positions but should have had two goals. His miss in the second half is embarrassing. If he could finish he'd be in League One

Wootton 5 - Worked hard and bought the ball down well in the first half. Second half largely ineffective

    Subs

Shields 6 - Bag of energy. Constantly trying to make an impact on the game. Played well

Dennis 7 - Wasn't a great performance when he came on, then the 88th minute arrived. Scenes

  2. I was having a think last night, we have used a lot of players over the last 5 years, we've had players we've loved and forgot about (Stanley Aborah who?), players we loved and now dislike, (Liam Noble) and many, many players who have come and gone in between. We have had good loan players like Jorge Grant, Mackail-Smith to name a few. So my question to you fellow PON users is, who is your favourite player from the last 5 years? And to make things interesting, 1 permanent and 1 loan signing.

So scratch your brains, have a think and let me know!

I will be watching from the Pavis, I am a little nervous.

I would take another draw TBH.

Get in! We seem to be building some momentum now. It's great to see us flirting with the top end of the table - to be quite honest I was expecting a relegation scrap.

I'm really chuffed for Dennis scoring again too. While he's a great option to bring off the bench and change a match, he's our top scorer, and your top scorer really ought to be on the pitch.

Great win! Fans who want Notts to okay pretty football for 90 minutes, aren't likely to want the club to remain in this league  for long either. Momentum is building, the team seems confident too.

We are now at the point where Notts historically disappoint. Another win on Saturday would really put us into the mix. Dover haven’t performed too well at home thus far so if the boys could pull this one off it could be the real beginning of our season.

Dover are a decent side. They haven't the best home record, but I have a feeling that will change tomorrow. 2-1 to the home team. Inih Effiong with both goals for the home side.

Decent result considering, I am pleased that we battled for the point.

To some degree, it sounds as if Notts was lucky because Dover did well from what Charlie Slater and Mark Stallard said.

  6. does anyone else think that these two could form a better partnership in midfield than that of michael doyle and jim o'brien?

they seem like two players imo that notts could gamble on. we know that crawford can score goals at this level and both appeared to perform for the enjoyment wanting to express themselves. i am surprised that ardley has not given crawford a start just to see what he can do. i dont think you can overlook every option when you want to succeed so maybe ardley will learn this?

  7. Former Notts County player Luther James-Wildin has won the League Two Goal of the Month for August, receiving 45% of the public vote for his superb strike against Macclesfield Town.

A good performance would show signs that the clubs adjusting well after being written off, I think after last season the new signings have arrived wanting to prove a point and the club finally has a squad now.

I would just like to see Notts attack the wider areas of the pitch.

If Enzio doesn't improve, he needs dropping. You can't justify having a player who can have one magical moment, or scores a worldly goal over someone who can assist for longer. It's getting to the point where he does need to shine, I hope this is proven wrong but he's one I don't think deserves to start.

      Watch him score now!

It will be a good trip, long but enjoyable for those that can make it.

3 wins in a row would be a big step up, I am expecting a draw but its good to see Notts doing better.

    4. BromPie

      BromPie

I'm hoping Dion Kelly-Evans and Nathan Tyson are available to return.

These two gives Notts a lot of attacking options, plus pace. Dover will be expecting us to go for it, so they might counteract this by defensive. It could be a scrappy sort of game.

  9. Has the despair and disappointment settled yet?

I was just re-reading the brilliant article by @Simon Clark and his thoughts about the National League. I would encourage you to give it a read if you haven't already done so.

Nobody wanted to see Notts relegated, or for the club to lose its title. I do have to say I am surprised by the standard of football, it seems better than expected but the officials are somewhat weaker I feel.

To say I am enjoying the trips I've made, wouldn't be entirely honest.

I have enjoyed the change, I think the clubs in a good transitional period and if this continues I do feel it will go a long way to resolving the years of mess that Notts County has found itself in. I also believe that the season for us hasn't quite started and that in a few more games things should become a little more livelier. Don't get me wrong, relegation still hurts but we have a club that is adjusting well.

  10. are we do a mediocre season?

i think with all that is going on and has happened since the clubs relegation from the football league, we are doing somewhat better than i thought. i feared that we would be nearer the foot of the league and for things to be like what is happening at chesterfield. it makes you wonder tho, as the majority of the vocal complaints come from the same mindless drones who always believe themselves to be the one who is right. it makes you wonder how they would get on supporting a team worse off.

i do get that some will want notts to be improving but it takes time, i would take a season where we have some good wins and the rest is grinding out results and draws. it dont seem that bad considering how poor notts was last season.

    Danny Rowe

Showed why he was on Notts's shopping list under Nolan

  12. Hi everyone. I've just signed up to PON, having read a number of the interesting articles on here in recent months.

On Saturday I was travelling back from Bromley to Preston by train (every match I attend is an away match for me) and struck up a conversation with a Barrow fan returning from a day out in Ebbsfleet. He organises all their away travel, which is very much self-funded. Sometimes they have enough fans to hire a minibus or even a coach and for other matches they travel by train. A group always travel by car too. I promised that I would provide him with contact details for a suitable pub that would welcome him and probably 50-60 of his fellow away fans (they expect to be bringing a coachload down) within, say, a 20-minute walk of Meadow Lane. I gather that he usually makes personal contact with the landlord or landlady some weeks prior to the match and always ensures that the fans are well behaved and respectful of their surroundings. I actually was very impressed with him. They would arrive about 12:30 and stay until 2:00 or 2:30 depending on location and enjoy, as so many of us do, a proper pub serving decent beer, rather than a pub that is part of a chain such as Wetherspoons and their like.

Having not lived in Nottingham for over 40 years, could someone please recommend somewhere that I could suggest to them please? It would be great to be able to ensure they had a brilliant experience of Notts' hospitality before leaving pointless on their long journey home. Actually do spare a thought for Barrow fans. Unlike Carlisle fans, they have to travel for one hour before even reaching the M6 and so probably suffer some of the longest journeys of any supporters in the EFL or National League timewise.

    Many thanks,

    LancsPie.

  13. Mean of 5

Slocombe 6.5 A match winning save but saddled with some woeful distribution

Brindley 6 Not able to get into position to deliver his crosses

Bakayogo 6 Athletic but not quite delivering in forward positions

Rawlinson 5 Switches off too much for me, never comfortable in possession

Mccrory 8 MotM how the match sponsors chose Slocombe??? McCrory didnt connect from a good corner move in the first half... powerful header from Bird's flick on

Boldewijn 4 One great sliding tackle , perhaps the first in a season and a quarter,,,,, anonymous again, needs a right motivational talking too, performances are not acceptable to the talent he has

Rose 6.5 Took on the defensive midfield king pin role successfully

Booty 5 Good corner for Bird's flick on but continual failure to pick up the second ball frustrating

Wootton 6.5 Cannot fault his work ethic , just wasnt well supported

Thomas 7 Class finish for his goal

Osborne 7 A player that can get shots on target is a real plus. Tired and got subbed

    Subs

Dennis 5 runs well but understanding with Wootton needs working on

    Shields 5 Nothing special

Bird 7 shows his jumping skills to flick on..should be ahead of Rawlinson on the team sheet

Good performance, a little slow at times but I felt Notts played very well.

The goals scored was excellent too.

There's got to me much more focus and effort on working hard tonight, Neal Ardley has to ensure nobody switches off or drops below an expected performance level. It should be a better game for us, they're a decent side but the type Notts should do well against.

If the momentum of this past Saturday isn't addressed, there could be an issue leading into the weekends fixture.

We can't afford any more injuries, yes, we have covered but Ardley doesn't seem to know how to play certain players. We have to be expecting more from the creative players such as Enzio Boldewijn, Regan Booty etc.

Every man worked hard, Rose stood out as one of the hardest workers in the team, was impressed with the keepers vocalness! Great finish by Ozzy! We knocked it about nicely, think it's all starting to come together now! Hopefully we can push on, on Saturday(how many times have we said that this season?)

A great win, i know it wasnt todays match.

  16. Slocombe 6 - Normal goalkeepers day. Couldn't do owt about either goal

Brindley 6 - Has a good cross on him. Not a great day, not a bad day

Rawlinson 4 - Basic passes misplaced. Belongs on the subs bench. Partly at fault for the first goal

    McCrory 6 - Did ok. Made yards. Isn't a centre-back

Bakayogo 4 - Not great going forward. Partly at fault for the first goal

O'Brien 6 - Passed it ok. Went off with a suspected broken arm

Rose 5 - Tried. Goes back with the ball too often when the forward pass is available

Booty 6 - Played a good ball to Wootton for the goal.

    Boldewijn 5 - Meh

Wootton 6 - Brilliant goal. Battled with the Bromley defenders. Didn't receive any service second half

Dennis 5 - Had one shot which was well saved. No service

    Subs

Bird 6 - Passes the ball well and is not afraid to battle it out physically. Needs to start vs The Wood

Thomas 4 - Nothing of real note to say

Osborne N/A - Came on for O'Brien in added time

  17. My names Luke, I have supported Notts since the late 80's.

The 90's gave me and our club some fond memories, such as the playoff trips to Wembley. My favourite all time player is Tommy Johnson where my nickname originates from.

I thought I would say hello since this is my first time on the site.

  18. What's happened at the club between now and last season's game against Swindon Town? I need s crash curse, just humour me! Yet, in all fairness I would appreciate a small snippet of text about the things PON members feel I should know.

Update this State side Pie. 👍
