  1. The PON prediction league will be getting underway this Saturday. Those of you that took part on the trial (you can read the trial thread to get an idea of what its about) will know how much fun it was but I'd love to have even more people involved here. You don't need to know your football or be good at it, just get involed! It's great fun and a real laugh :) The more people we have taking part the better!

    How it works
Every week I'll post a list of Six fixtures taking place in the Premiership, Championship, League One or League Two and all's you have to do is post your predictions for the results of each game.

All of the Saturday round games will be posted in the middle of the week, probably on a Wednesday, and the occasional Tuesday Night round fixtures will be posted on a Sunday.

The scores will be posted and tables updated on Saturday evenings/Wednesdays (hopefully that all makes sense).

    Scoring System
Essentially you'll get 3 points for a correct score, 1 point for a correct result, and no points for an incorrect result.

    For example:

My prediction for a match: Notts County 3-1 Stevengage

Game ends in a 3-1 victory for Notts - 3 points
Notts win, but not by a score of 3-1 - 1 point

Game ends in a draw or Notts lose - 0 points

So then, this weekend's fixtures are:

Leeds United v Brighton & Hove Albion

    Middlesbrough v Leicester City

    Peterborough United v Swindon Town

Preston North End v Wolverhampton Wanderers

    Exeter City v Bristol Rovers

    Torquay United v AFC Wimbledon

Please, do get involed :) You'll enjoy it

  3. Another newbie here! Found my way here cos the Mad board appears to have died (is it just me?)

Notts fan since 1977. Notts mailing list lurker since the mid 90s. Once known as ArnoldPie on Rivals and Mad and more recently as ManchesterMagpie on the latter. Don't get to as many games as I used to (combination of geography - i live in Lymm, cheshire + match day costs + can't be arsedness to be honest!) I am however optimistic for the future of the club and believe it's in good hands.

  4. It's the day everyone's been looking forward to since the end of April, the start of the new season.

Everyone comes into it full of hope and optomism, thinking this will be their club's year. Everyone starts off on a level playing field. There are new managers, new players and new stadiums. Over the next 9 months heroes and villains will be born and memories will be made which will live on forever.

The next 9 months will be full of drama, controversy, highs and lows for every club involved.

Will any of our youngsters begin to write themselves into Notts County folklore? Will any of our newbies become heroes and legends of the lane? Will Chris Kiwomya become the next Neil Warnock?

All those questions will be answered over the next 46 games. Bring it on, enjoy everyone! COME ON YOU PIES! BLACK N WHITE ARMY!!

  5. It reads rushed for me, I don't know what to make of it but Chris is calm and he puts his thoughts across well.

"Chris Kiwomya: Notts County youngsters are not ready yet"

Notts County manager Chris Kiwomya is not convinced his young players are ready for League One.

But he admits he has little choice but to put faith in teenagers such as Curtis Thompson and Romello Nangle.

He told BBC East Midlands Today: "They are not ready. But sometimes you don't know until they get on the pitch."

The club's budget has been cut by 30% and experienced players, including midfielders Neal Bishop, Alan Judge and Jeff Hughes, left this summer.

    “

There are bigger teams than ourselves with bigger budgets, and that can get you better players, but once we cross the line we have to find a way of winning games.
    ”

    Chris Kiwomya Notts County manager

Defender Hayden Hollis, 20, is the oldest of a host of emerging players who recently signed contracts to stay with the Meadow Lane club.

Nangle, 18, made seven appearances and scored once, while the 19-year-olds Tyrell Waite, Greg Tempest and Thompson also featured under Kiwomya last term.

Goalkeeper Fabian Spiess , 19, who also came through the club's youth academy, was given a run in the side when Bartosz Bialkowski was sidelined with injury.

Notts finished 12th, nine points off the play-offs, last term after getting off to a strong start under then-manager Keith Curle.

His side missed out on a play-off spot on goal difference in the 2011/12 season, but the former Manchester City, Wolves and England defender was sacked when County dropped to 10th in the league and five points off the play-off places in February.

Kiwomya was promoted from development squad manager to caretaker boss after Curle's departure and signed a three-year deal in March.

The 43-year-old won five, drew seven and lost five of his 17 games in charge last season, with his first full campaign at the helm of the Meadow Lane outfit starting at Sheffield United on Friday (19:45 BST).

Kiwomya expects the young Magpies to grow in stature as first-team responsibility is thrust on them.

"I think once they play games they will become better players, but they need to show commitment first," he said.

"It is up to the players to go out there and have commitment, work hard for the team and give 100% - that is all you can ask."

Kiwomya is convinced he has struck a good balance of youth with experience in the transfer market.

Ex-Charlton Athletic and Ipswich Town striker Danny Haynes, Mark Fotheringham, David Bell, Mustapha Dumbuya and Andy Howarth joined the club in the summer.

"I trust in the players that I've got in the squad," Kiwomya said.

"There are bigger teams than ourselves with bigger budgets, and that can get you better players, but once we cross the line we have to find a way of winning games."

I don't hear Chris say anything about the youngsters not being good enough, the interview is one of my pet hates. He makes me cringe.

  9. Morning all...

I'm new to this forum so I thought I'd say a big hello to you all; 7 days to go!!!

  10. Finally!!!!! :D

Home game and against such a huge European team. It's odd how a Turkish team enters European contests and yet their national side enters African cup of nations. I can recall reading them attempting to get classed as a member of E.U - Divided between Europe and Africa. Regardles we'll be playing their best league team (who are like United over there!)

I hear that our friends @shrewswill and @friendlyshrew side lost to them, I hope for our case we can do one better.

Wouldn't mind losing but to score would be nice! I actually think if we controlled the game, we might be able to sneak it but of course I've said this and I jinx things.

Personally I wouldn't risk Danny or some of our main players too much tho, they've got some hard tacklers who make Vinnie Jones and Roy Keane seems like pansies.

Might be a friendly, though as we all know the risk could be our loss.

    COME ON YOU PIES!!

  11. Notts County Football Club has made an off-field signing this week with the recruitment of a new head of commercial.

The potential here is enormous and I’ve been really impressed with the facilities here at Meadow Lane."

Steve Prescott has arrived at Meadow Lane after leaving his post at Lincoln City, where he has been the Imps’ chief executive for the past two years.

Hopefully this will be good thing for the club, there's many ways Notts could be making money and so I think it makes commercial sense. ;)

  16. Hi Andy,

Welcome to Pride of Nottingham! I'm very glad to see you've joined. I thought another Andy B might have rejoined for a moment but of course I was wrong. We've only been going since last December, so things tend to be quite slow but none the less it's great to see another member.

    Thanks

  17. Just noticed we have another new members. Welcome to our community @jackncfc. Hope to see you around on here mate :) Look out for the prediction league starting the same weekend as the new season

  18. The last of the friendlies!

After this Ladies and Gentleman the season starts and it all becomes important. We can finally reflect on the football we've seen and hopefully we can share the positives, as I have seen many myself. This game we will no doubt see Chris stick to a side he would have as his first 11.

So most likely less changes during the game or at least, we won't see any until the 70 minute.

Ipswich will be a good test, although I don't not rate them. I really hope we can go into the season having beat them, yes friendlies don't mean much but it can be an added boost. One which might tell our boys to go into Sheffield knowing they can win, which we can. We have to believe we can do this! Isn't this exiting?

  19. I can remember Joe posting a on the PON facebook page a while back asking people if they had any favourite football chants and as I remember it got a fairly good response. Thought I'd ask on here, are there any particular club songs that people like or just chants in general? Dont have to be County related. There are a lot of songs I like.

I especially like a lot of the Glasgow Rangers chants. I think they're some of the best fans in the UK when it comes to atmosphere. Thankfully they seem to have eradicated most of the secterian songs.

    I like this chant:

Their pre-match song Penny Arcade is good too:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-rDZqFNPIQ

Think my favourite club song is Hibernian's Sunshine On Leith, its beutiful:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YXmLE9K-S4

And Sheffield United's Greasy Chip Butty song is great, got to be one of the most creative songs about lol:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jA14bKuuSms

Cant not mention Liverpool's Fields of Anfield Road either:

What do other people like then :)

  21. Well Done to the lad for earning this!

Notts County Football Club is delighted to announce that highly-rated goalkeeper Fabian Spiess has agreed a new long-term deal.

It’s a big club and I’ve been here a few years now and I’ve loved every minute of it."

    Fabian Spiess, Goalkeeper

Spiess, 19, graduated from the Academy in 2012 and went on to make a big impression during his first professional season.

  22. 47 Years ago tonight I was enjoying the first night of a weeks holiday in Blackpool with 4 of my mates and by this time of night was slightly inebriated along with the majority of fellow holidaymakers.Nothing unusual there, except we all had one very good reason to be celebrating.Yes,England had  just won the world cup .I don't think there are many members old enough to have shared the experience(Tony will struggle with his memory :rollonfloorlaughing: )but just in case there are-What do you remember?

  23. I see Matt Green has signed for Birmingham, that's not a bad move for him, from non league to championship. It will be interesting to see how he fares.

  24. I tend to listen to Absolute Radio rather a lot, I recently heard a song I hadn't for a long time. My father used to enjoy listening to R.E.M, as a child he pretty much drove me crazy with it. I grew up to appreciate his taste of music, especially since it got drummed into us all. Now, I know he will say 'I had to listen to yours', though I tended to use 'headphones'. ;)

Cheeky will back me up on this, I tend to sing it. LOL

This brings back some fond memories

After I clicked on this out of interest, we all know how "Youtube" like to keep people playing videos.

  25. It appears Krystian Pearce has signed for Torquay.

    http://www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/story-19583704-detail/story.html#axzz2aTd1KHLz?4073310729&redirected=true

I had great hopes for Krystian it is a great shame that things haven't worked out for him but I hope he manages to resurrect his career at tbe Gulls.
