  1. Next weekends match away to Leyton Orient has been postponed due to a number of International call-ups. It's a shame for me as I might have been going, would have been £25 on the train.

Still, it'll give us a free weekend and time to regroup a bit

  2. This Saturday the 7th of September is the 3rd annual Non League Day. Fans are encouraged on this day to go along to support their local non-league clubs. Ofcourse, getting people through the turnstiles is tricky for non-league clubs in this day and age but it is their main source of income, and many of them will be doing promotions and admission deals this weekend. Hitchin Town for example are offering AFC Bournemouth season ticket holders half price admission for their game this weekend if they show their season tickets.

With Notts County not being in action this weekend this is a perfect oppurtinity for Notts fans to get involved with this.

    Local non-league matches this weekend:
    Alfreton Town v Woking
Hucknall Town v Swanwick Pentrich Road
    Eastwood Town v Chasetown
Arnold Town are at home in the FA Vase

    Hinckley United v Weymouth (COYT! :D )

There are probably a few other clubs I've missed off from here but go on, get yourself down to your local non-league club and support them. Non-league clubs need you now more than ever. Eastwood Town, Hucknall Town and Hinckley United in particular are all going through tough times at this moment in time so your prescence would be great for them.

Seriously, go to a non-league match on Saturday if you can. Some of you may have never been and will probably look at it thinking it'll be just 11 beer bellies huffing about a field for 90 minutes but you'll be pleasently surprised. I guarentee you'll enjoy it and you'll come away thinking it was money (and it'll be cheap) well spent.

    Think about it :)

  3. I listened to last night's match talk and a caller said that he had heard that Mrs. Trew was abused by some fans after Saturday's match and he wanted to apologise to her on behalf of decent Notts County fans because she was apparently really upset. He hadn't witnessed the incident but had heard it second hand, I really hope this isn't true, don't these people realise what a huge debt we owe to the Trew's especially Mrs. Trew who persuaded her husband not to put us into Administration when it seemed the logical choice.

If @erindoors reads this I hope she will realise that the majority of our fans are decent people and the people who abused her (if true) are not real Notts County fans.

Also on the programme the Jim Rodwell was on briefly and was asked about any movement on deadline day and he said it was very unlikely and that we had to make best use of the players we already had, further cuts are possible as Notts try to stay within the FFP guidelines.

  4. You know the drill by now :)

    This Saturday's fixtures:
    Barnsley v Huddersfield Town

    Doncaster Rovers v AFC Bournemouth

    Colchester United v Leyton Orient

    Oldham Athletic v Tranmere Rovers

    Portsmouth v Chesterfield

    Wycombe Wanderers v Southend United

As always, any new members are more than welcome to take part. You can see the other threads for an example of what its about but basically you just have to post your predictions for the above matches by 1:30pm on Saturday. 3 points for a correct score, 1 point for a correct result.

    Good luck! :)

  5. I'm delighted to see a fellow Irishman join Notts and very excited when that player is of the quality that Enda Stevens is.

Enda played in the group stages of the Europa League for Shamrock Rovers and made a handful of appearances in the Premiership. He's a solid defender and will attack at will. He's a bit like Seamus Coleman who plays for Everton.

  6. Hopefully we will see a more relaxed game, though it would be nice for the same principles applied at Anfield. I don't agree that there's now expectations, least not in the same context that some media sources have been mentioning at least. The ability to score and create chances are there, we just need to make it happy and to make sure that we attack games. It's easy when you think about it, the only way to take pressure off, is to attack well.

I'm not going to say we'll walk Rotherham over, they've been doing okay and anyone who attended last season's cup game will tell you they know how to punish us.

The difference this year is the fact we have Bart available to call upon, a keeper can make the defense feel so much calmer and this isn't aimed at a dig to Liam Mitchell who's moved onto life at the stags.

We need to find some form some sort of consistency and although I agree we should be beating teams like the millers, this doesn't mean we have the divine right

I won't at the game, I'm sort of gutted but it's time for me to have a seaside trip with my family. I think @super_ram deserves to relax a little also.

Personally I think we will create more chances but I really don't know if we will win, I really hope so but I feel a draw might happen.

    Your thoughts?

  7. The past month we have seen some new members join the ranks of our little community.

I really feel I should try to sort out some structure when I do this, although I think winging it isn't to bad. I tend to look the previous months for an idea anyway.

Firstly I'd like to thank all the members who have posted and visited.

I'd like to give a special mention to the following three members - @MuddyPatchPie @Dripsey3 and @upthepies.

This doesn't take anything anway from anyone else's contributions and it's really nice to see things picking up again for the site. On the quiet front of the close season/pre season I think we've made some fine ground and made some new friends along the way.

This Months - Member Of The Month goes too... *Drum Roll*

    @Super_Danny_Allsopp

He's really become apart of the site and his views are always interesting. The depth of some is good - along with his 'Where are they now posts' which @super_ram doesn't quit mentioning to me - Like I haven't read 'em myself! LOL

Well Done SDA - Not bad for a new signing! Please take time to congratulate him. You Pies!

  8. A warm welcome to new member @MagpieMania I hope you enjoy being part of our friendly community.

  9. Hi, Ian, Millers fan here, if Joe's around, i've answered the questions he asked for the Opposition view.

Good luck for the rest of the season after Saturday of course.

Around 1500 of us coming down to ML at the last count, hopefully more, so enjoy the game everyone!!!

  10. Welcome to the site @garyb :) Always nice to see new members joining the site. Don't hesistate to join in the discussions or predictions league, we don't bite....

  11. You'll probably all say this has been discussed and that I have lost my marbles because I commented on it but I was just reading the programme from the Fleetwood game, (yes I know it was 3 weeks ago  ) and I noticed that Joe and his two kiddies are pictured on page 45. It's a picture from the Galatasary game.

Fame at last eh Joe?

  12. For those who haven't seen it there is an article in the Guardian about Liverpool v Notts which mainly deals with Notts flirtation with oblivion after the Munto fiasco.

Shame they got the date we were founded wrong.

Notts County savour visit to Liverpool as sign of happier times to come Football's oldest professional club travel to Anfield for their Capital One Cup tie thankful just to be alive

    The Guardian

Around 3,000 Notts County supporters will travel to the Capital One Cup second-round match at Liverpool on Tuesday night hoping to see a proud display at a floodlit Anfield – and giving thanks, too, that their old, weathered club is still around to play in such a game.

Now battling in League One under their manager, Chris Kiwomya, Notts were plunged three years ago into one of the most extraordinary crises among many that the world's oldest professional club have faced since their foundation in 1864.

The saga, barely believable now that normality has been restored to Meadow Lane, featured new owners, Munto Finance, who claimed to be backed by Middle East multi-millions, and that they were negotiating for North Korean mineral rights and the BMW Sauber Formula One team. They hired Sven-Goran Eriksson as director of football and signed high-profile players such as Kasper Schmeichel and Sol Campbell for a "project" to launch Notts County into a Premier League "brand".

But County's brand mostly stands for doughty survival, not global glamour, and the visions of glory with backing from an investment fund, Qadbak, unravelled into a morality tale frighteningly quickly. The money promised when the supporters' trust, which owned the club, signed it over, never materialised, and an apparent bank guarantee for £5m proved worthless. The involvement in the Notts venture of Russell King, who was linked to the collapse of a company, Belgravia, under investigation for alleged fraud in Jersey, dispelled the mystique around the deal.

Campbell, the former Tottenham, Arsenal and England stalwart, walked away after one game at Morecambe, complaining that promises of improvements to the facilities had not been fulfilled. Eriksson, who had actually gone to North Korea with King and been promised huge earnings from Swiss Commodity Holdings, a company linked to the new owners, later told the Guardian he had been duped.

Peter Trembling, who took the job of executive chairman on similar assurances of mega-money, has since revealed that in fact he had to pay the newly inflated wages himself and now says he lost about £630,000. Within a few months the dream of mingling with football's elite had crumpled into county court judgments for petty debts and a winding-up petition brought by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

The club was facing a serious threat to its existence six years after it had been saved from administration and the supporters had come to own it themselves. Trembling took a traumatised club, with contracts it could not pay, off Munto for £1, then in February 2010 passed it on to a Lincoln businessman, Ray Trew, who has since wrestled with stabilising it.

County's accounts to 30 June 2010, covering the period Munto were in charge, show that the club's debts increased by £6.2m to £8m. Eriksson, his status as a football man shaken by the episode, accepted two months' money and walked away, rather than hold out for a huge contractual payout. Schmeichel agreed a settlement of the huge five-year contract he had signed and left for Leeds in May 2010. Other players signed for the Munto journey, including Ade Akinbyi, were also offloaded.

County did, though, win promotion, 10 points clear, going up with "unsustainable" contracts and a dire financial situation, according to the club's current chief executive, the former Rushden and Diamonds defender Jim Rodwell.

"The wage commitments were completely unaffordable," says Rodwell, who also sits on the Football League board. "It was a firefight from the beginning, there was a shortfall of cash every month and there has pretty much been a shortfall ever since. Now, after a lot of hard work by many people including some long-serving staff at the club, the position has stabilised and it is probably not very different from other League One clubs – difficult."

The club's latest accounts, in fact, show debts have risen again, to £5.5m, which Rodwell says is mostly owed to Trew, the cost of financially salvaging the old club and continuing to fund it.

Trew announced that he had asked Nottinghamshire police to investigate what happened at the club; investigations are said to be continuing in Jersey while King is in Bahrain, but so far nobody has been charged with any offences. Kiwomya, the sixth manager appointed by Trew in three and a half years, will take his squad of mostly free signings and young players to Anfield following Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Stevenage Borough, which was watched by 3,925 fans. Most of those people will be at Liverpool, watching their side play Brendan Rodgers' stars, grateful that their club is there at all, in its famous black and white, and hoping some far-fetched dreams can come true.

  13. I went to take my seat at the Rayo friendly, as I approached a steward he asked to see my ticket. I told him I knew where I was sitting and he then responded "It's reserved seating, can I see your ticket?" in a polite manner. I shown him and he pointed me up into the middle of the stand, I thought it was odd because it said row "C".

So I walked across and asked another steward, he pointed me in the direction about 8 rows less than previous steward.

He also mentioned double checking, so on the way up I asked this very kind elderly gentleman. He told me row "C" was nearer the pitch. I don't know about @super_ram but I was starting to get fed up.

Until he actually went to walk it, he apologized and explained the marker in paint had worn away.

Personally, I didn't mind him. Surely 1st or 2nd guy upon entering could have pointed me in the right direction? I think I will have to request to have my seat moved because there's no way I'm going to sit towards the back of the kop. Just a warning if you're like me and sit with other people or move around :)

  14. Another new member to welcome, hi Stabber, good to have you onboard.

  15. Hello,

My name is Ger. I live in Cork in Ireland. I've been a Pies fan since the 80s. I don't get to many home games because it's difficult since they cancelled the Cork to East Midlands flight. I do get to games aganst London opposition but I must say I dislike the away end at Leyton Orient!

My all time favourite player is Tommy Johnson.

  16. Capital One Cup - Liverpool vs Notts County
Live from Anfield at 7:45pm (On Sky, Local Radio and Magpie Player)

    Match Summary

After the last game against Stevenage things appear to have deflated further, although the special thing about cup games is the upsets and you can never write off underdogs. This will be Notts County's chance to show us fans that they're trying and we should expect a certain length in transition for the players to gel but last Saturday was very disappointing. All we can really ask from the players is to go into the game and believe, if we try... I will be happy, just need to see that spirit and early signs we saw from the friendlies and hopefully they'll enjoy the game.

    Li
verpool will no doubt be confident, will they field a strongest squad? I'm not sure myself. I think we see some players introduced to make up numbers but I hope to see Gerrard for example.

No prediction from me, just going to enjoy the game with @super_pie :)

    Thoughts?

  19. A day of rest today after the exertions of yesterday with the kids.

We had a bit of a lie in this morning 7.30am, when I came down stairs there was the distinct aroma of beer pervading from the direction of the kitchen so I followed my nose and found my home brew barrel had sprung a leak and was oozing my precious home brew all over the new kitchen work tops, Mrs. H was not amused but I was more concerned about losing my beer. :panic:

The barrel was under pressure and there was a slight stress fracture (I have had it about 20 years!) and the pressure was forcing the beer out of a very tiny hole. A mopping up exercise followed whilst Mrs. H looked on tutting in the background. I did consider licking it up or mopping it up with a sponge and squeezing it back into the barrel but decided against it because of hygiene reasons. Luckily I have a spare barrel and was able to syphon what was left of the beer into that. :phew:

I think I lost about two pints so not a disaster but it looks a lot on a kitchen worktop. The barrel was consigned to the bin and it looks like a trip to the home brew shop will be a dinstinct possibility in the near future.

Apart from that I have had a day catching up on a bit of website work, sitting in the garden relaxing and getting ready for our camping trip tomorrow.

What's your day been like? Good, bad, indifferent?

  20. It all began to boil over last week when @tonyhateley posted a video delcaring that the prediction league was already won, that it was his. However so far the County legend has failed to show he can back up his bold words ;) The table is very close, and last week @upthepies showed that one big score can shoot you up the table. His 9 point haul took him from near the bottom to 3rd in the table.

That shows it dosent take long to catch up either, so lets try and have a few new members joining in this weekend. You can see the other prediction league threads to get a good idea of what its like but essentially I'll post six fixtures every week and you just have to post your score predictions. You get 3 points for a correct score and 1 point for a correct result. Come on, jump in! :)

    This Saturday's fixtures:
    Leicester City v Birmingham City
    Sheffield Wednesday v Millwall

    Bradford City v Sheffield United
Milton Keynes Dons v Bristol City

    AFC Wimbledon v Scunthorpe United
    Northampton Town v Torquay United

Deadline for predictions is Saturday at 1:30pm.

    Good luck everybody :)

    http://www.italianmagpies.com/2013/08/6-questions-for-bartosz-bialkowski.html

Hi Bartosz, thanks for having accepted and taking the time to answer our questions. You had a great first season and the supporters truly love you.

#1Your second Magpies' season has started. What do you expect from this season?

"I want to still improve on my game and as a team. We want to be competitive. I know we've had a hard start of the season, but, you know, the season is long. We want to start our season in the next game against Walsall and hopefully we gonna win that game and move forwards".

Do you think the team is stronger? And where you think we can finish in May?
"Yeah, obviously we've lost a couple of decent players, but also we signed few good ones. Danny Haynes, Mark Fotheringham and few others. On the paper we are looking really good and we got spells in the game where we're playing some football. We need to keep going".

#2What is the worse feeling: to pick up the ball out of the goal or to take a kick in the face by Alan Sheehan? Also in Italy the newspapers talked about that scene.

"Ahah. That was quite funny to be honest 'cause I didn't expect it. He kicks me...obviously he didn't mean that, it was quite painfull, but I was right to be fair. It wasn't a nice feeling to be honest, but it's happened, but you know...I think the worse feeling is picking the ball out of the net, because in every game my target is to keep the cleansheet and I hate to concede a goal. So I pick conceding goal as the worse feeling".

#3When you were a child in Poland, which team did you support?

"I've always supported Man Utd, that was my team. I had posters, items on my wall. Man Utd, especially Peter Schmeichel, he was my hero".

#4Who's the best player you've played with and against?

"I think with he's gonna be..Ricky Lambert. He was unbelievable. He proved last night scoring for England and I'm so happy for him, He's such a good person and unbelievable player. In training session is scoring for fun and in the game as well. I'm so happy for him. Yes, he's the best player I've played with. And against he's gonna be probably..quite few like Tevez, Ryan Giggs, Sergio Agüero...you know, hard to pick. They're all like the best players in the world".

#5This is a thank you from Paolo, who's asking a question from his son Romeo. After the Stevenage game (season 12/13) you gave Romeo your gloves, it was a really nice gesture from yourself. Romeo would like to ask how do you train for penelties and how did you became so good at goalkeeping?

"I started in goal when I was only ten, and the only reason I was in goal was because I didn't like to run. I become a professional goalkeeper 'cause I has always worked hard set my target really high and then play as best as I can. That's what I can say..keep working hard and follow your dreams.".

#6What would you suggest to eat to someone making their first visit to Poland?

"We've got many nice traditional dishes like pieroghi, bigos, soup made from beetroots. It's very nice. My wife cooks polish food..I really enjoy polish food.".

We'd like to thank you once again for being so king replying our questions, but most of all we wish for you to be strong and have a great season as Notts County's goalkeeper.

    "Thank you".

Many thanks to Batosz Bialkowski, Andy Black and Dane Vincent.

On the same day, Bartosz had the interview for the Magpie Player. He was still wearing the Italian Magpies' scarf.

  22. Time for my daily rant, well, it seems like I find something to rant about every day    so if you cant be bothered reading it I take no offence to you not bothering.

Still here? Well here goes then...

Farnborough Town are in pretty dire straights. They're in administration and are very close to liquidation. Their first two Conference South games have been postponed for numerous reasons and as yet it remains unclear if they will be able to complete this season.

Betting giants Paddy Power have recently offered the club a signifficant sum of money to help them out. Thats very good of them isn't it? But are they doing this out of the kindness of their hearts and not wanting anything in return? Oh no!

What Paddy Power want is for the Farnborough players to legally change their names to that of a legendary player who played in their position - i.e Best, Messi, Beckham, Schmeichel etc. They even wanted the owner Spencer Day to renaim himself Jose Mourinho! (No, its not April 1st).

Now, I'm sorry, but have you ever heard of anything so ridiculous in your life? I think its outragous myself! It just shows what these big companies think of non-league football. They see it as a bit of a laugh. They see it as a circus where the people involved will do anything and perform like seals if you wave some money in their faces.

I think it shows a real lack of respect to grass roots football myself, and also a bit of naivity in the sense that they feel that clubs at that level will go and basically make themselves look stupid for a bit of money. Its ridiculous. Its pathetic, its an absolute joke!

The conference board called it a silly publicity stunt and I agree, its a bit like what Budweiser did with Wembley FC in the FA Cup last season.

I hope Farnborough told Paddy Power to get lost.

    Rant over :super:

  23. Finally!!!

I'm glad to say it but we will see the one and only 'Gary Liddle' return to the mix. I hope to see the defense come together now and even if Manny retains his place, I see no reason why Gary wouldn't make the return the centre of the park. We've missed him and although I have read some comments about his actions at Sheffield United, it's still a case for me that he's done enough to warrant fans to stand by him.

We certainly need his calm head!

Now I see this one as being a game where Stevenage will try to disappoint us, although I feel we have the quality to see this being a game where we notch up our first 3 points and come away from Meadow Lane with smiles on our faces.

    My team would be...

    Bart
    Dumbuya - Liddle - Leacock - Sheehan
    Haworth - Boucaud - McGregor - Bell
    Showumni and Haynes (if fit)

I would like to throw Zoko into the mix, although considering the game. If Bell and Haworth are fit, it would be interesting to see how they do on the field at the same time.

    My prediction? 3-0 to Notts

    COME ON YOU PIES!!
