It's a big word is hate and I always class it as a wasted emotion. We have an inferiority complex were Forest are concerned. They have been top dogs in Nottingham for so long. I am probably one of the very few on this board who can remember a time when Notts was the team that recruited new supporters.

My uncle and cousin (who I was very close to) were Forest mad and if I wanted to see a proper pro game the only way was to go with them to the shi tty ground. But when dad could get the time off work on a Saturday I had the chance to express my real love.

I remember holidaying in Skeggy and kicking a ball about on the beach with Paul (my cousin). These two guys near us were doing some impressive tricks with a ball and eventually they joined us.

We were stunned. One was Ron Wylie (then an inside forward at Notts) the other was his mate, Jack Burkitt (a Forest evergreen). To our amazement these two were pals and had brought their families on holiday together. Being only kids we had assumed that County and Forest players barely spoke to one another and bore feelings of enmity towards each other.

I can't hate Forest. In fact, because I am a Nottingham exile in Yorkshire, I want them to have a good result.

BUT

if they go up it will set us back years. If they advance to the Prem as we slip back to League 2 the consequences are too horrific to contemplate.

Our relationship with Forest is like two brothers in the same family. One is confident and successful and inclined to arrogance, (known as The Prodigal Son?); the other has a stutter, often screws up, now and then puts in a diamond performance, but usually disappoints his parents.

No, I don't hate Forest, but I have to admit being a bit envious of their fans. I wouldn't mind a bit of that.

Pleased to announce that we are now well over the £50,000 mark, a tremendous achievement from all the friends and supporters of the statue fund.

We are also getting a little help from Derby County FC and their supporters, this is in the way of them auctioning a bust of their legend, Steve Bloomer, see link for details.

Although we have had  an increase in the plinth names available we will be closing the list in the near future.

We also have a weekly payment scheme in operation for anyone that wishes to purchase the limited edition mini-statue,this eases the situation of finding £150 in one lump sum.

Also, for those with any Junior magpie children there is a  unique opportunity to let your child be in with a chance of having a hand in the making of the statue at the WedgeWood studio in Stoke On Trent, please see team Magpie web site for details.

Anyone here taken up the offer put on by Notts to sell their stock of shirts and selected items?

50%!

Adult Shirt - £20
Children's - £15

I believe some of the other items are included such as the training tops, polo shirts. I kitted out my youngest, Ava and Ellie love their away shirts! Ellie's should be her birthday present but we wanted Ava wearing hers.

after the blades won tonight we are back  in relegation zone and saturday home tie against shrewsberry is now a vital win as anything less would see us having to do the great escape. A win for us and a lost for trammere  crew and crawley  would see us climb out the bottom three.  I don't think i could face the great escape sat there having to check sore from other grounds and starting the prayer I'm alone here or not.

Which Ref do you feel's been the best so far this season?

We've had so many poor match officials, however we have seen a few decent ones.

I left the radio on last night ,after the Rams match.Radio Derby join up with other local radio stations and they had a 'phone in'The subject was- What is your claim to fame'This could be -have you met anyone famous, have you ever been in the news, etc.Do any members have a claim to fame?

Reduced ticket prices on offer for crucial Sky Bet League 1 clash...

Notts County are delighted to announce that ticket prices for adults and children have once again been reduced for our next home game, against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday 22 February.

Having climbed back out of the relegation zone with a 3-0 win at home to Coventry City on Saturday, the club would like to thank those fans that have backed the team this season and are keen to make sure that we take full advantage of a good home support during the run-in to the end of the campaign.

And to help ensure that as many people as possible can make it to Meadow Lane for what promises to be a crucial match against Shrewsbury, the Board of Directors have agreed to cut adult ticket prices to just £15 and under-16 prices to just £3 each.

Hopefully we can get a bumper crowd! Well Done Notts!!

This one is big news today.

Apparently there is not much love lost between these two - and the dislike is not an affectation.

On the one hand you have the charismatic overstated articulate self-admiring showman that is the Chelsea boss; on the other you have the studious, somewhat mumbling, self-effacing Arsenal tactician, whose English is as fractured now as it was when he arrived.

My question is this: which of them do you prefer?

Further to that, if you were to spend an evening in the company of one of them, which would it be?

Would you give the same answer to both questions?

I suppose I should attempt my own question before signing off.

Well, I prefer Wenger because I think he's less likely to say things just for effect

but

I'd spend my evening with Mourinho because I think he's a riveting conversationalist.

Perhaps if we get 20 or more responses to this we could do a head count.

Crawley v Tranmere------H/D

Orient v Stevenage------H

Coventry v Carlisle-----H

Hoping for these results, but football's a funny old game.

Notts County vs Shrewsbury Town this Saturday, will you be in attendance? How many travelling Shrewsbury Town fans do you think will make the trip? Our own?

It's confession time! Let PoN know..

Can all those who haven't read @super_ram's excellent article on the early history of the FA Cup please do so otherwise you will be accused of procrastination (look it up) and you don't want that. :joker:  It's all about the FA Cup when Super was a lad and they kicked pigs bladders around. :rollonfloorlaughing:

Seriously it is an excellent article and the old boy has obviously taken a lot of time and trouble to write it, I know I couldn't do it, so have a read and see what you think.

the first ever pon notts county hall of fame. Which player deserve a place in pons hall of fame. Vote now past or present

well there is a lot of players who could go in to the hall of fame Steve cherry, Mark Draper the list is endless but my vote is for Tommy johnson.

I believe this is good news for us on two counts.

1. We love to see that lot get turned over especially by the lowest team left on the competition.

2. The longer Sheff Utd's cup run lasts the more the players will lose focus on their league plight.

After another PP Crawley seem to be struggling to get all their matches in.

2 schools of thought on this.

One, they will be knackered so fatigue should set in and help us out.

Two, they put a few wins together and the momentum helps push them up the league playing twice a week for a while.

Difficult one to judge as you never can tell at the bottom of the league what will really happen

It's been a interesting month for us all here, having decided to give the former "Member of the Month" @liampie the chance to nominate 6 members for this months, as a reward for continuous effort (secretly I didn't want the tough choice). Liam told me via PM that he was unsure, he didn't feel up to deciding, however I asked until he agreed.:lol:

This month I wanted to do things different, so there's another slight twist to the Member of the Month.

Firstly I'd like to thank each and everyone who's signed in, contributed, looked around and even visited. Without people doing so, the site would grind and for me it's rewarding to see people enjoy the site. So, a huge thank you!

I would also like to note that yesterday we reached the most unique visits in a day! Nearly 650! also, the most online at one time was beaten with 252 (mostly guests). Two achievements impossible without your support!

So here we go - 30 votes later, we have stumbled upon our winner but before I named who that is.

@Canadian - You've contributed a vast amount since you joined us, it's richly deserved and I am happy to say. You're PoN's Bronze MotM (basically 3rd place)

motmbronze.png

@Joe Jones - Where would I be without you and your articles? I don't know but I do realize that your efforts help the site immensely. Liam said he couldn't believe you had never won this award before, so I think it's safe to say we're both glad that you're named PoN's Silver MotM.

@hissingdwarf my small but very tall friend! You won outright and it's richly deserved. I think the fact that the poll reached 30 votes and 10 of which you received shows how widely your contributions and posts are appreciated. Congrats for being named our Member of the Month for January!!

Please take the time to spread the community spirit and congratulate all 3 members. YOU PIES!

I have now written a brief introductory article about football up to the time of Notts formation in 1862 and will continue with more:-i.e. The formation of the F.A. and Football League and come up to date with, hopefully, interesting and informative articles. I enjoy reading about the history, players, and ups and downs of other clubs. I hope other site member do also and will add their own comments to give us all a better insight into football's rich history. Notts-Joe has asked me to write up about the history of football, not just relating to Notts County.

Article - Read Here

I know quite a bit about Derby County, and I'm still learning more ,even at my age. I know a fair bit about football in general, including other clubs and I look forward to reading other people views. Your thoughts?

So, what have you all been upto today (or currently plan to do)?

I'm preparing to go out, decided to take the children to the part. It seems like one of those days that you wouldn't want to waste sitting inside and doing only vitual things. The plans to go to Vernon Park, we used to go all the time when Jake was younger but with things the way they are these days it's a little awkward.

Plus the children was looking forward to seeing Granny and Super Ram, with them being at their house. It leaves us with some spare time!

I will of course still be around, though limited compared to normal. When I get back I need to do some admin tasks, along with some other things. YP!

Share what you have been upto/doing. :)

I received this email today, I know not everyone get's these emails so I have (hopefully) uploaded it here.

Apologies if this has been talked about but I read or heard on the radio that McGregor was a bit petulant and showed his displeasure when he was substituted against Wolves on Saturday, Derry said in an interview that he was being immature and he took him off for the good of the team.

I hope that it hasn't soured the relationship between player and manager and it was just a heat of the moment thing.

What do the people who were there think, was Derry right to substitute him or should he have stayed on? What form did the petulance take? Was he right to be annoyed?

Discuss.

We took our Grandson George to the YMCA Day Camp today, they spend the day there and do all sorts of activities which keeps them occupied and hopefully wears him out. We walked there it is about a mile and all the way he was singing "Its fun to stay at the YMCA" at the top of his voice, this was at 8am in the morning, our street is occupied by mainly  retired people, a lot of curtains were drawn no doubt hoping to have a lie in, goodness knows what they thought.

I get really confused when reading posts that people have quoted, sometimes I can't tell what is the quote and what is the reply, anyone else have this problem? It is particularly bad on the phone app.

My question is @notts-joe is it possible to differentiate better between the quote and the reply? Make the quote a different colour perhaps. When I am quoting a post on the desktop I try to remember to change the colour of the quote myself to make it more readable but you can't do that on the phone app.

Obviously there's a lot of adverse weather around at the minute, so if any of the matches included in the prediction league are postponed or abandoned, they will be void, and no points will be awarded.

This Saturday's fixtures:
Doncaster Rovers v Barnsley

Millwall v Bolton Wanderers

Crawley Town v Carlisle United

Preston North End v Leyton Orient

Hartlepool United v Newport County

Plymouth Argyle v York City

Because it seems to be 1 step forward and 2 steps back. We are gradually running out of games, we can't keep expecting other teams to slip up, can you honestly see us putting a long unbeaten run going. Which is what is needed. Forever hopeful tho.
