  2. Barcelona tie down star trio as Lionel Messi commits until 2018

Lionel-Messi-Barcelona-vs-Real-Betis_287Lionel Messi has agreed a new contract which will keep him at Barcelona until the summer of 2018.

The three-time World Player of the Year was previously signed up until 2016 and will be 31 by the time his latest deal expires.

And Barca have also tied down one-club stalwarts Xavi and Carles Puyol until the summer of 2016 - effectively for the rest of their careers.

Messi is in the running for a fourth successive FIFA Ballon d'Or, due to be awarded on 7 January, and recently set a new mark for goals scored in a calendar year.

Gerd Muller's record of 85 goals stood for 40 years before the Argentine's double against Real Betis on 9 December took him to 86, and two more followed in each of the games against Cordoba and Atletico Madrid.

Messi will have played 14 seasons at Camp Nou by the summer of 2018, and he already has five Primera Liga winners' medals and three from the Champions League.

Xavi's new deal, meanwhile, is due to expire almost 18 years after his Barca debut as an 18-year-old in 1998 - little more than 12 months before Puyol made his first senior appearance.
  3. Notts County vs Rotherham United

    <!--url{0}-->TEAM NEWS

Notts County have midfielder Alan Judge available following suspension but defender Dean Leacock is a doubt after being hurt in the loss to Brentford.

Yohann Arquin is expected to return from injury, but it is unclear whether fellow striker Lee Hughes will be fit.

Rotherham boss Steve Evans is set to make a number of changes from the side that beat AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Skipper Ian Sharps is suspended after he picked up his fifth booking of the season in that game.
    VIEW FROM THE TRAINING GROUND

Rotherham boss Steve Evans told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"I think we'll go there and give it a go but you have to be careful because it's a one off now.

"They've got quality all over and they're very good defensively so it'll be a very difficult game for us.

"I've got to the fifth round in the last two years and success in this competition is like a drug."

I'm very excited about this, I know I said this last time but I really do love FA Cup games. I'm very lucky that I have been able to attend so many games recently, which my two oldest are also excited about. I think we'll take the game, I really hope that the lads can come out and play some very positive football. We all know that the players are capable, so I'll be singing with my little pies to encourage them. It's going to interesting though, fingers crossed for the right reasons.

  4. Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini has apologised for headbutting Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross.

The pair clashed in the second half of the sides' 1-1 draw but referee Mark Halsey missed the incident.

"I apologise completely to Ryan Shawcross, my team-mates and to our fans at the game. I lost my temper and it was unprofessional," said Fellaini.

Crazy, I heard about this but it wasn't until my dad asked me earlier if I had seen it that I knew exactly what happened. How can a player who's professional carry out this type of behaviour throughout a game? I can't find any videos that show him doing it repeatedly, although I have heard from a few people that it was mutiple times.

  9. Pearce Returns To County!

Defender Krystian Pearce has returned to Notts County at the end of his three-month loan spell at Barnet.

The centre-half, 22, made 17 appearances for the Bees after moving to Underhill in September, and formed an impressive partnership alongside David Stephens.

Stevenage loanee Andy Iro, who has been an unused substitute for the last two matches, could make his debut when Barnet head to Dagenham on Saturday.

But head coach Edgar Davids admits whoever comes into the side will have some big boots to fill following Pearce's departure.

He said: "He'll be a massive loss. He was one of the pillars of the team.

"It's too bad for us, but I hope he will get an opportunity at his club."

  12. TEAM NEWS

Yeovil welcome back on-loan striker Paddy Madden after a two-match absence.

However, winger Keanu Marsh-Brown is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season for a dive in the victory over Wycombe on Tuesday.

Notts County will again be without Andre Boucaud, but the midfielder is back at Meadow Lane for treatment on his knee injury.

Defender Dean Leacock returns after suspension but Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Lee Hughes are still banned.

Having spent time on a Yeovil Town Fan Site and speaking to various fans on other online communities, I feel that this is a game that they would be happy to draw with. Some, believe that they can stop our away form record and seem to have a desire to see their team achieve that. I feel it will be an hard game for us both but one that we should be able to overcome any difficulties. Some fans voiced concerns about not being able to score, so if we attack and get ourselves infront with a nice margin hopefully that would stop them from playing.

I am also interested to see what James makes of the game, as I know he intended to go.

Just open your Facebook go to the FA Cup page and find the photo--> CLICK HERE and comment "GOAL A, Yoann Arquin". That's could be very important for the Club!

  14. Hi everybody this is Italian Magpies.

Joe talked me about this forum so here I am.

I'm the administrator of Italian Magpies, the Official Italian Supporters Club of Notts County Football Club. My project started last January (at the end) and now count over 2000 likes on Facebook fanpage and over 500 followers on Twitter.

All I and my friends want to do is to get more people interested in Notts County.

Of course I'm a Juventus fan.

I was interested in Notts before the friendly game v Juventus on September the 8, 2011. I was reading some books about Juventus history and found out the story of John Savage and the black and white stripes. I really love this kind of stories. It was about 6 months earlier the 8th of September when I became fan on NCFC FB fanpage and started to talk with many people. I've been in Nottingham two times: last January 19-23 (v MK Dons 1-1) and on the 4-5-6 of May (v Colchester 1-4).

Fantastic experiences. First time I was alone, second time with 10 friends. Next time I hope with plenty more.

With the work I'm doing with Italian Magpies, many new people asked to come to Nottingham so I hope next time we could be more than 15 and seat with you all in the Kop once again.

I also host some Magpies for two Juve games: 20th November 2011 (Juventus v Palermo 3-0) and 20th October 2012 (Juventus v Napoli 2-0). For the second time I also planned a meeting between the Notts fans and alot of Juve fans so they have plenty of photos. The story also went on Juventus website: what a privilege!

    I think it's all.

  15. here you go joe, Manny (odd name) is on his way back. i know you've had some defensive issue's, do you feel he will slot back into your team without causing any problems? a knee injury is quite something to get over.

Notts County defender Manny Smith has made his long-awaited comeback for the League One club from a knee injury.

Smith, who joined the Magpies on a two-year deal in the summer, has been sidelined since being carried off on a stretcher 40 minutes into his debut in the Capital One Cup defeat to Bradford in the first game of the season.

The 24-year-old centre-back has resumed full training and played in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Derby's Moor Farm training ground on Tuesday afternoon, which the Magpies lost 2-0.

Smith came through the game unscathed and manager Keith Curle hopes to have him back in first-team contention in time for the busy Christmas programme.

  16. Tonight at 20.45 (italian time) Juve will play in Donetsk against Shakhtar. The ucraine team is very strong, so I suppose it's gonna be a really tough game! They are qualified for the next round, Juve is not. For Juve is enough a draw but I really think Shakhtar want the victory. They're a good team. I hope Juve can draw, maybe we can lose and don't be qualified, but as always we'll play to win!

    Forza Juve!

  17. Who is the team in each league you hate the most??

    for me it's

    Prem: Red Scouses

    Champ: Middlesbrough

    League 1: Millwall + Leeds

    League 2: Bradford

  18. Just a quick forecast on a few matches.Notts to win 3-0.Florest to draw and Rams hopefully back to winning ways 2-1.Shrews 1-0 and what's the chances of Villa beating Arsenal(arsenal scored 5 and villa conceded 5 last week)

  19. TEAM NEWS

Rotherham still have a number of injury concerns with goalkeeper Scott Shearer and defenders Kari Arnason and Craig Morgan amongst those still out injured.

Midfielder Lee Frecklington (back) should be available.

Notts County are without suspended trio Dean Leacock, Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Lee Hughes.

Striker Hughes could be replaced by new loan signing Chris Iwelumo, but it is not yet clear if Watford will give him permission to play.

    VIEWS FROM THE TRAINING GROUND

Rotherham boss Steve Evans told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"It's the magic of the FA Cup, isn't it? We couldn't have had a tougher home draw given their away record. They play like a good Championship club on the road.

"If it's a similar theme to the game as we had when we played Stevenage then the fans will have had value for money.

"The players here seem to have something within them that helps them to rise to the big occasion.

"If we had our full squad available then I'd say we were favourites for this match. I genuinely believe that."

Notts County manager Keith Curle told BBC Radio Nottingham:

"People are going to go there with an expectancy because of our away form.

"From being a division above as well, people are going to think it is automatic that we will go through to the next round.

"I can assure you it won't be that easy. It will be a very difficult task."

Personally one of my favourite points in football, as the league starts to take formation and the start of the FA Cup. We seem to be viewed as a team Rotherham much like they did when we was in league two, I have also read interesting comments on twitter and the odd general football forum regarding some of our players they plan to direct taunts too.

This is a game we shouldn't let out of grasp, it's a side I see us winning fairly easily on paper but we know this competition turns boys into men. (to speak) In Rotherham's case a poor, unless side into possibly one who can knock it about at least against us.

I will be listening as usual to the match on the radio, I'm opting out of the magpie player due to issue's and one personal matter.

  20. So Milton Keynes 'Dons' host AFC Wimbledon in round 2 of the FA Cup. Not surprisingly it'll be shown live on ITV1. Quite a few AFC Wimbledon supporters are not planning on travelling to MK because they dont want to give money to MK. I can also see where they're coming from when they say looking at fans in mk colours would just be too much,

Could be a fiesty affair! Vinny Jones to come out of retirment for one match? ;D

  21. Huge game tommorow at Meadow Lane. Part of me isn't particularly confident - Notts are our sluggish home form versus Swindon with their brilliant away form. But another part of me is confident we'll get a much needed home win and put in a brilliant performance. Lets hope thats the case.

I'll be at Weymouth v Leamington but will be checking the score regularly.

    COYP!!

  22. Notts County have signed Watford striker Chris Iwelumo on loan until 1 January.

The 34-year-old has made eight appearances for the Hornets this season, scoring once for Gianfranco Zola's side.

He could make his debut in Saturday's home match with Swindon.

The Magpies are the 14th club of the Scotland international's career, including spells in Denmark and Germany.

Meanwhile, the Magpies have confirmed Lee Hughes will be staying with them after his move to Port Vale was not completed before Thursday's deadline.

I'm personally optimistic, he's someone who should do well at our level and we have to give him a chance. It's also a short loan, so I'm not sure if this indicates that he'll be a second part player who will be backup mostly but if he does well I'm sure he could force his way into the site.

I was hoping to see a Defender come in, someone who could play on both left and right back.

  23. I'm hoping we can break our recent form which least nobody can say we aren't consistent. This is really a game I'd like to us win, as I don't like the comment I've been reading in the media but not only because of this, I feel Preston is exactly the type of opposition we need to be beating. Having said that, I don't really rate them very highly.

No jinxing but I feel it's going to be a very tight game, I think we'll win 1 - 0.

Changes are it's going to be pretty eventful.

I think we'll take around 300 odd fans. (Hopefully they'll chant and cheer throughout the match) I'll be glued to the radio, listening to uncle colin and deano.

    What does everyone else think?

  24. Im sure this has been discussed many times over the office table over a pub table, so what is your teams greatest ever 11 players ?
