Premier League B team plan for JPT backed

Premier League B team plan for Johnstone's Paint Trophy backed

<!--url{0}--> A majority of League One and League Two clubs are backing a proposal to allow Premier League B teams to participate in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Although not a formal proposal, minutes from an AFC Wimbledon Supporters' Trust meeting reveal the League Two club was the only one of 48 to oppose plans.

The Football Association announced a plan to boost English football in May.

The four-point blueprint included the creation of a new league within the pyramid for Premier League B teams.

The Football League responded by saying they had "no appetite" for the new league, but said they would "continue to work with the FA to help find solutions that will be supported across the whole game".

Peterborough United beat Chesterfield to win last year's Football League Trophy, while Walsall play Bristol City in the final of this year's tournament at Wembley Stadium on 22 March.

I noticed @Dan and @2piesonmyshirt discussing this, I added my two pence worth then.

I wonder which teams voted 'yes' because I bet you could link a reason behind that, I expect the likes of MK Dons, Swindon Town and some of the other sides which gain from their close connections to the Premiership but this would enhance the JPT.

The only logical thing I can see, is that it would market the League One and Two teams to potential players, it will enable fewer players to become lost from the Premiership who don't make the grade. Players like Adam Coombes because he's truly lost now. So perhaps there will be some benefit with it but for me the whole thing is just very weird and I cannot gather why League One and Two teams would vote for it.

It's not going to increase attendances in my opinion.

A field where dreams become reality.

I fail to see the logic, so you're not the only one @notts-joe. Could this see the sides making a push to get into the football league? Is there any wonders the modern game is losing its appeal? Bad move for me.

They can shove it where the sun don't shine. Just another way of helping the rich get richer and bigger and the poor become poorer and smaller. Can anyone honestly say they'd enjoy watching their club play Hull City's B team in an empty stadium? It's not like there'd be any away supporters. Scandelous

I quite like the idea to be honest. Who really  cares about the JPT at the moment anyway, other than the team who wins it? If Notts did ever win it, I would probably use the fact we won in a sarcastic way saying how we are the best team in the Midlands or something.

If us playing a Chelsea B team meant that more people came out to watch the games at the lane, I'm all for it.

Even if it's not the JPT, some sort of competition wouldn't be too bad an idea.

No thank you. not for me. I have a real issue with decent players being paid to stay out of teams. What I mean by that is that all the cream goes to the top, fair enough you say! BUT the top clubs sign players who are a decent standard and then just do nothing with them. They don't play competitive football they fester in the training grounds and 'inviting' them to join the JPT reinforces the need. Some clubs may hold on to, or even sign more players to go for the silverware. This will inflate the half decent player prices for our club, reduce the loan system players and may remove another part of the market!!

Some may like it but I like to go to a cup game with a realistic chance of winning.

Arsenal B, Chelsea B, Liverpool B, Man City B, Manchester United B, Tottenham Hotspur B

Would always be in the running, there squads could easily compete at Championship level and open up the JPT takes the dream away from 48 professional league teams. It will open the door to over 7 elite teams who will filter down good players into the B team just to enable them to strengthen their first team squad. And what happens when these players are getting regular game time? What does this mean for the loan system? More importantly what does it mean for teams like us whereby we rely on getting the good upcoming players on loan.

If the B teams played each other (similar to the F.A Cup with Non League teams) and it was filtered down to say 6 teams who entered the main JPT stages it wouldn't be so bad.

I just see this ruining an already declining competition.

If this happened I would imagine that one of the big clubs B side would win the trophy every year, it's the smaller clubs only realistic hope of getting to Wembley at the moment, if this plan succeeded we can forget it.

I wonder how long it would take for a B' Team to win it.

After that, you can kiss the JPT Goodbye. and like people have said, Once you open the Door, Just put your foot in and the rest is history.

:( :( Sad Sad day.

What an absolutely dreadful plan. Why hasn't our club opposed it?

Firstly, it'll be the final nail in the coffin for the JPT. At least there is currently interest in the final stages. If, say, Colchester and Burton make the final, it'll be a big day for those clubs and towns. But could you imagine a Spurs B v Stoke B final? Not even the fans of the respective clubs would care about it. The whole thing would be an utter embarrassment.

Secondly, this is the thin end of the wedge. The PL wants its members to have B teams in the League and they see this as the first step in making this happen.

And on top of that, it doesn't solve the JPT's problems. I know from my own experiences in Germany how unattractive B teams are and how unappealing it is to watch your team play in a virtually empty stadium or in front of an empty away end. It wouldn't help the JPT at all and could take away the prospect of a Wembley trip.

The B teams were cited as a way of offering match practice to the ridiculous numbers of young players who are rotting away in the stands at Chelsea etc. and are not getting any competitive football. The PL wants to "solve" this by allowing B teams to take part in national competitions and trashing the lower leagues in the process. It ignores the actual problem: the top clubs are hoovering up all the talent, stunting young players' development and depriving fans a chance to see them in action. Clubs are actually buying players just to prevent their rivals from buying them. Surely a simpler way to address this would be to limit squad sizes, thus ensuring that young players are spread around more clubs and actually get a game.

i really dont like the idea of this, i think it will be another step towards ruining football and only a matter of time before they are added to the league ahead of non league teams which deserve it.

worst idea i have read for awhile for english football. :(

Just say no and fight it.

With all the money from the rights, why bother about the JPT? I reckon that its just to test the water for them to enter the league.

I hope not!

Interesting read on the OS site - http://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/article/football-league-trophy-premier-league-2313225.aspx

Seems to steady the nerves and calm down my thoughts, though why do they differ?

@notts-joe That's a Better Understanding of this situation.

The thing that struck me was the fact that the B'Teams would never Enter the Football League Pyramid. THANK GOD!!!!

I guess we could Trial it for Next season.
