Colin Slater MBE the tram

Heard on radio Nottingham this morning that Colin Slater has had one of the trams named after him.

What a great idea and a lovely tribute to Colin who has been commentating on Notts for 47 years. A can't actually remember Notts County without Colin and I am REALLY old.

Its nice to see someone all notts fans know about or have met be on the new trams. I do see more people living in Nottingham using the trams, rather than people further out anyway.

Great that Uncle Colin has had a tram named after him. Would like to see one or even two with the names Jimmy Sirrel and Jack Wheeler on them.

I am so pleased for Uncle Colin, he does deserve this and more.

When I noticed @Joe Jones has put it up on our social page, I just felt very pleased to see that he got such a response from the fans. He's a good help to the club and having spoken to him several times, I feel honoured that he's someone who backs me and my own efforts.

A field where dreams become reality.

Absolutely deserved and merited. Colin Slater is not just a Notts County legend, he's a Nottingham icon, and it's great to see the city reward him with such an honour.

When will get his own statue? The committee for J&J should be onto this.

When people ask what 'American Pie' is about, they're missing the point. The song isn't about the lines themselves - it's about what is between the lines. The song is about what isn't there.

I understand that this tram has been specially engineered so that every now and then it will rattle along in no  real direction, inexplicably stop, and divert off to  Mansfield. lol

Like the man himself its priceless

Congrats

I can't imagine him using a message board, but congratulations anyway. Must have been such a proud day for him.

If it falls off a bridge, will it be a "high dropping tram"?

The more recognition for Uncle Col the better.

(though to be fair last night listening to the stags match on the radio it was a refreshing change to know what was actually happening on the field when Charlie Slater did his sections! Colins great for being Uncle Col, but for ball by ball he does tend to wander! You only really notice on times like last night though as they split the match into four sections to give each guy a fair crack.)

There'll never be another uncle Colin he is a true gentleman and a dying breed, I hope they name a stand after him in the future as a lasting memorial.

Edit: just re read that and I make it sound like he has died but you know what I mean, I hope he has many more years reporting on Notts.
