Shaun Derry appointed Oxford United manager

Featured Replies

It's not a bad move for him, it's another chance to have a crack at League One.

I felt during his time at Cambridge that he really developed a good understanding as a manager and tactician. They would always have been a difficult side to build from, so at least here he gets a chance to implement his experience and start again with Oxford.

A field where dreams become reality.

Good luck to him, but must admit that I am very surprised that Oxford have chosen him as he hasn't set the world alight so far. Personally, I always liked Shaun, he just didn't have the right men around him when he was with us.

That’s great for Shaun, I sincerely hope he makes a success, I’ve got a soft spot for him, Alan Hardy thinks highly of him too.

He did well at first with Cambridge, linking up with Jimmy Spencer and almost making the playoffs if I recall right.

Oxford United are hardly the most glamorous League One team, so I think they will be thinking he will be able to bring in some players from above the division. Good luck to him, he has the potential to be a good manager.

I wish him well. The real problem at Notts was IMHO his comedy partner... Nolan has a "technical coach" whereas Derry had a comic

This! TBF, Derry was thrown in at the deep end at Notts without a lifeboat from the Trews. The comedian sidekick was a great mate for him, but wasn't a strong support.

Well that's a bit confusing guys, it must be a blow to go from being a manager to just first team coach. I hope he gets the experience required to make the switch back but this topic seems to have caused others to be mistaken.

Oh oh oh ohhhhh, everywhere where we go, watching super County putting on a show!

Just as a passing comment, I do get frustrated as managers (Derry and to some extent Nolan) who have played at the top level of the game  for many years, seemingly discard footballing principles to play hoof-ball?
