Earliest signs of Notts doing well?

I was watching a few football related videos on YouTube and it got me thinking.

What are the earliest signs for you, that Notts could have a good season?

Playing well at the start is a sign, sometimes the signings helps but until you’re 10 games into the season. There is nothing you can really mark things down.

Having a manager that brings the best out of Players too.

The squad looking confident is a sign that I look out for, usually in the first 5 games teams are feeling each other out.

I think you can tell sometimes that something good will happen, if a teams been together over a number of years, this gives some belief. Results will be a big part of it.

Perhaps I take a more critical view...

Goalkeeper : fine

Defence : solid, signing of Lacey has strengthened the central defence

Forwards: Would probably have Dennis ahead of Thomas at the moment.

Midfield: This is where we need to improve. two holding midfielders in Doyle and Rose (too negative/) with outlets in Enzio ( drifts out of the game) and Osborne ( a player who is not afraid to shoot). A diamond may work better with say Booty when fit at the top of the diamond. Will Roberts be a game changer?

I think at the point you realise the squad is capable of winning games and they play for each other, not just themselves you can tell. Back in 09-10 you could see this in the very first game against Bradford City.

Yes, it's about seeing the depth and ability in the players. Nobody saw the season where Kevin Nolan managed to secure the playoffs, the squad was just a group of hard workers that flourished with each win.

The complete opposite is found with the 09-10 squad, we had good players, a strong squad. Players able to fill in for the regulars and more importantly the football was great to watch. Notts won't always have a solid squad, but provided the core is good enough, I would take that as the earliest sign for myself.

You can just tell sometimes, as you can feel it - you might not know why but if there's a good level of optimism in the air. Generally, a magical feeling can be felt. I think once this expands to more than just a minority you can tell the clubs onto a good thing.

Naturally signings help, the the they play together and see the closeness in the group.

When Notts can win a handful of games without losing this shows there's something special about the squad, avoiding defeat and just racking up the points.

Halifax at home. They were 2nd at the time and we were the better side easily, even with 10 men.

Yeovil and Sutton away we looked like we were slowly getting there but there were still other bits missing from our performances. We played well at Huish but just couldn't take our chances. At Sutton we played well but only for one half.

Halifax was the game. We had the defeat to Bromley afterwards but then we went on that run afterwards.

After that dodgy spell in November, the Halifax away game was exceptional. Mitch Rose had the game of his career and we played some lovely stuff and deservedly won the game.

The first question is: what is a good season? In the summer I'd have been happy to have stayed clear of the bottom four, so a proper play-off flirt is a great success in my book. We're still only a couple of poor results away from mid-table though. If we have the pleasure of a second season in the Bananarama League, the bar will be set higher.

The signings we made after the takeover was announced were of a much higher calibre than I was expecting, but that carries its own risks - players dropping into non-league don't always excel. But I remember reading comments from Stockport fans after we played them (and were lucky to draw by all accounts) saying we looked like we'd be a really good side once we'd gelled. That felt a bit novel but gave me hope that it wouldn't be the struggle I thought it'd be.

I dont really like or watch youtube.

If fans seem up for it, positivity is in the air and Notts does well from the word go. That is the earliest sign for me, Notts just tends to lose their way a lot.

i always look out for seeing a good keeper and a solid defence, up front can come with time and effort but we have a tendacy to leak goals.
