We have confirmed our retained list following the conclusion of our 2019-20 Vanarama National League season.

Ten players remain under contract for the forthcoming campaign, while seven others have been offered the opportunity to extend their stay at Meadow Lane.

Sadly, however, five players have been released following the expiration of their contracts and our manager Neal Ardley has praised the contributions they have made towards the club’s resurgence.

“This is always the toughest day in a manager’s calendar, but it’s especially difficult this year as we are saying goodbye to great lads who have given their absolute all to the cause,” said Ardley.

“The relationship I have with these boys goes beyond that of a typical manager and player. They have all bought into mine and the club’s philosophy and helped take us to a play-off final and an FA Trophy semi, achievements we could only have dreamed of at this stage last year.

“Unfortunately football is a cruel sport and disappointing news is par for the course in any player’s career. All I can do is publicly thank each of them for their efforts and wish them all the very best for the future.”

Really surprised that Crawford has been released. Last season, I would have understood it. He came on so much as a player this season though. Rose released so no surprise to me there. Hope Doyle and JoB are there as experienced heads occasionally when needed (more so Doyle tbf.)

Disappointed about Tom Crawford and Regan Booty being released, both looked like assists.

In the National League, economics dictate that one cannot carry "injured" players for long. Booty is a casualty of this. Disappointed about Tom Crawford, but with JOB and Doyle (edit: if he signs a new contract), there maybe wasnt the space for him in the budget

😮 shocked that the club have let go of two good young players, more so with Regan Booty.

Michael Doyle isn't under contract, he's been offered a new deal.

Neal Ardley spoke about getting rid of the "old guard" image that had been picked up, but has allowed Tom Crawford to go. I can't see Jim O'Brien and Michael Doyle being that successful when played together.

Just have to hope that those departing are replaced with quality and players the gaffer will actually start.

I admit I am a bit disappointed with Crawford and Booty being released.

Wow, well the staff definitely weren’t sitting around feeling sorry themselves. I knew today was the day some meetings were taking place but I didn’t expect it all to be done today!

Lacey is one I’m desperate to see sign though, Dennis a close second too. They could quite easily have interest from clubs above though. Could maybe see Brindley have offers from above too.

I’m pleased Ozzy’s been offered a new deal, he’s always looked lively when given his chance. Big season for him now though and he’s got some tough competition in Enzio and Roberts. I think he’ll resign along with Doyle, Kelly-Evans, McDonnell.

Doyle was always going to be offered a new deal imo, maybe I’d have kept Crawford but with Rose going (probably to a higher level if the rumours are to be believed) as well there’s space now for a whole new CM pairing which is potentially very exciting, especially with our recruitment record at the moment…

I imagine the Regan Booty decision wasn’t easy either, but in these surreal times were our income is slashed we really can’t afford to be paying someone who can’t play. I obviously wish him well and I hope he can get his back problem solved but it sounds like a bigger issue than everyone first thought.

Disappointed at the fact Crawford didn't get a fair shot to prove himself. Reckon that'll be a bad decision. Booty going is a disappointment too. Rose was always gonna go, might of only been useful as back up that's it. From the looks of it, they're gonna strengthen the midfield and possibly a few at the back.

Only disappointed in Booty going to be honest, but the bloke is injury prone so can fully understand why.

Looking at who has been offered contracts, it will all come down to who offers them the most money.

Disappointed in Booty and Crawford being released. Both young, creative and can still develop. Booty showed that when he played, he could create chances and that he had a good pass on him. Crawford was forming a good partnership with Doyle in some games last season and he would have only improved with his experience

I think most can see Booty was skilled, but a serious injury worry going forwards. With cash tight, a player with “no end in sight for his back injury” you can understand why they’ve released him. Maybe he gets himself sorted six months down the line then comes on trial? Either way, understandable decision.

Crawford. A better approach this year, but let’s not forget the past few years of obvious lack of application, open accusations of laziness and not training at acceptable level, been referred to as the quietest of all the players. Maybe Ardley thinks we need a hard trainer with a gob, that does have creative talent. Unlike Doyle, who obviously trains superbly, is vocal, but is on his way out.

I feel for Booty. Looked quality when he played, but the back injury obviously hindered him. Hope he can recover and find another club to showcase his talents.

I though too that Crawford could have played a role, but he has been here two seasons already and not been able to hold down a position in the worst Notts team in history and one with a 38 y.o Michael Doyle and Mitch Rose in it.  Will have to trust Ardley on this one.

The only other 'shock' is Mitch Rose. To be honest, I might have kept him, but if Ardley thinks we can get better, then I'm not overly distressed to see him leave.

Key also for me is Lacey re-signing. Glad that Sam Osbourne has been offered a new contract.

i wonder if he really had a back injury or if it was due to him not being given the first team opportunities which brought him to the club. things change and at least he respects notts, its also nothing like the aborah saga but i do feel he ended up being more of backup than a player who suffered from too many injuries.

It's a shame about Booty as he was obviously talented, but as NA likes to run a leaner squad we can't really afford to have players who aren't available for long stretches of the season. Hope he gets fixed up somewhere.

Like most other people I'm surprised about Rose and, to a lesser extent, Crawford. I have a feeling that Rose already has an offer from elsewhere and told the club he wouldn't be signing, pure conjecture though. I can imagine Crawford being interested in joining a middling NL club just to get more games under his belt, he must have splinters from sitting on the bench all his career.

As for the ones we've offered, it's highly likely that Dennis has been offered reduced terms (we were spending silly money when we signed him) and a goalscorer is always in demand. I can imagine Lacey waiting to see which offers come his way too. I hope they both sign though.

It all leaves us with a bit of a hole in CM, so it'll be interesting to see who comes in. We might already have our Booty replacement in Rodriguez, but we still need a Bishop type.
