Decent move for him, I think the more he adapts to the physicality of the league the better he will get. If I had to put a bet on Iโd say heโll score and assist more goals than Grant will for us next season. Clearly wanted to be closer to home and I mean this in the nicest way possible but I hope he doesnโt stellar season, that way we wonโt feel like weโve lost out!

Looks like Sampdoria have been very fortunate to avoid relegation with their opponents getting food poisoning, another being docked points, then Sampdoria being awarded the win by the authorities in the relegation playoff.
Even though Sampdoria survived relegation to the third tier of Italian football, it is still a big low for a side that saw much success in the early 1990s, & had great players playing for them.
Iโve not seen this mentioned so apologies if it has. I was saddened to hear that Dick Edwards has passed away, many older pies fans will remember Dick from the 1960s he played number 5 I think in central defence.
I believe he also played for the Stags and Aston Villa. Once heโd retired from football he played the guitar and sang in local pubs and clubs.

Thanks @Mapperley Pie i remember all those names but Iโm blowed if I can remember Dick playing centre forward?
Iโve got some of those old programmes somewhere Iโll dig them out.
The summer transfer window is in full swing & hopes are high among the 24 teams in League 2 that they might either get promotion or a place in the playoffs.
The three teams that missed out, Walsall, Notts & Chesterfield will have hopes of going one better this season, & the four teams relegated from League 1, Crawley, Shrewsbury, Bristol Rovers & Cambridge will be looking for a quick return.
So who will finish in the top 10 next season, who will be Champions, which two teams will be promoted with them, & who will make the playoffs?
- Show previous comments 3 more
Not us unless we have a sharp upturn in form under a new gaffer from October onwards. I'll wait on my prediction until more transfer business is done
Vardy would have to take quite the pay cut if wanted to come here, he was on ยฃ140k per week at Leicester, even if he took a 90% pay cut that would still equate to wages of ยฃ14k a week!
Again itโs hard to say, I thought MK would do really well last season because on paper it looked they had signed some really good players. They've spent a lot of money again but something wasnโt quite right there and might still not be, I think Crowley only managed 2 assists and 0 goals after he left which tells a story of itโs own. New manager and a pre-season to work with them, should be top 10 this season.
I think from the relegated teams Bristol and Cambridge would by my tips to finish top 10. And then you have the mid-table teams who could potentially move up if they can strengthen, teams like Cheltenham, Barrow and Swindon. Barnet who got promoted could have a good season, I wouldn't be surprised if they snuck into the top 10. I think Chesterfield are an easy bet to finish top 10, they'll finish in the play-offs again at least.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Walsall fall down the table considering how shocking their form was since February, Grimsby too I wasn't overly impressed with them. Even Salford look set to lose some of their better players and might struggle if they can't replace them.
Iโve no idea who the top ten will be, Iโm sure theyโll be some surprises, I hope Notts are in the automatic promotion spots, I reckon Chesterfield definitely will be.
Canโt wait for it to get started now, itโs boring on Saturdays.

Sometimes you hear stories about clubs that have struggled for years but somehow fight their way back to the top. It gives you hope that Notts could do the same one day.
With the Reedtz brothers in charge, I've never felt more sure about the direction we're heading. Theyโve brought stability, vision, and a proper belief back into the club.
Good luck to them in La Liga, if they can be more technical and defensively tight at the back, they might be able to stay up.
As @Fan of Big Tone is on holiday, here is this week's general chat thread.
It's been a lovely day here today with lots of warm sunshine.
Visited the supermarket this morning to buy some tubs for the rest of the summer bedding flowers we have been planting.
Managed to get them all planted and watered this afternoon. All seem to be doing well.
I've also been pleased with the two new Notts signings today. Hope we get further good news as the week goes on.
What could be behind the delay to appoint a new head coach? I suspect it could be one of many reasons. One might be due to the restructuring of our footballing department as highlighted in the announcement made regarding the appointment of Dr Rhodes shown below. โThe news of Dr Rhodesโ appointment precedes an important update we look forward to sharing with supporters in the near future.
โAs well as introducing our new coaching team, weโll be announcing a restructuring of our football department โ and explaining how it will help us achieve our ambitious plans for the club.โ
Any thoughts?

Given all the talk about Hรธjer, the timing is a really strange coincidence. I wonder if he was originally going to be the main man in our new setup. But chances are nobody knew anything and it's just chance.
He was under contract at Huddersfield, so maybe they were angling for compensation. But then what's the point in holding onto him in June, when everyone is on holiday anyway?
I do think itโs a bit poor that it took this long to make what feels like a low-key appointment. Still, as I said, Martin Paterson should get our backing. As fans, we need to support the club through this. If not for the board, then for Notts and the players who gave everything last season.
Martin Paterson, will he be the saviour of the Pies or the creator of our demise???
Personally I think he deserves all loyal fans getting behind him 100%. Welcoming him and his team with Notts County's open arms. He has a difficult enough job to do without all of us on his and the teams back's. Let us judge by the long term not the short fuse.
News has broken that Crystal Palace could be excluded from the Europa League after earning a spot by winning the FA Cup.
Problem for Palace are UEFA's strict rules on Owners who have ownership or part ownership in multiple clubs playing in European Competitions.
If Crystal Palace are kicked out, it would be a massive blow. Hopefully a solution will be found, but it doesn't look good for the club's prospects.
Websites are already talking about Clubs that could replace them should Palace be excluded.

It's frustrating when things get to this point and cause problems. For the sake of fairness, something should be looked at that doesnโt punish Palace fans. In the past, they tried to force owners to choose who they wanted to sell to, but that never worked. The only real option I can see is imposing penalties on both connected clubs if anything suspicious happens during matches.
The situation with multi-club ownership is a bit of a problem. It feels very unfair on Palace, but UEFA needs to ensure that there's no manipulation or "agreed" results. And that's hard to do when the same people sit on the boards if two clubs that could potentially play each other.
However, last season both Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig (who are very obviously controlled by Red Bull despite German club ownership rules) played in the Champions League...
Letโs be honest, Forest always find something to moan about. This time it feels like another case of them stirring the pot for the sake of it.
The irony isnโt lost on anyone, given their ownerโs past links with several clubs. Iโm not sure if heโs still involved elsewhere, but I remember there being rules about him and Greek sides. Thereโs always been controversy around him.
After all the drama they caused last season, itโs surprising no one called for them to be docked points. Youโd think theyโd count themselves lucky, not go looking for trouble.
With Notts highlighting their desire to improve the coaching staff and having appointed a Director of Performance and a Head of Coach Development. Does anyone else think it would be good to get someone like Neil Warnock back in a position to offer support to our next head coach?
Obviously, not as the assistant or anything like that, but in a role where he could still enjoy being involved in football but without the hassle of managing.
Someone like Neil could be a big boost in terms of experience and support. Positions like Director of Football or advisor/consultant.
This was mentioned previously last season when Stuart Maynard's assistant and coach left the club. However, the more I think about it, the more I feel it could benefit the club.
- Show previous comments 5 more
I think the money could be better spent to be honest, especially if their job is basically to offer out a bit of advice here and there.
I struggle to think on a day-to-day basis what would they actually be doing if they werenโt involved in the coaching? And what would happen if the head coach didnโt like the suggestions from the football advisor, would they have to basically do as they say?
I get the idea and wouldnโt be totally against it if itโs not a wasted wage. I just think actually having a more experienced No.2/First-team coach would be a more effective way of solving this problem.
Does the club really need someone as experienced as Neil Warnock involved in any role? His wages could probably be put to better use elsewhere in the club. That said, Iโm not totally against the idea. It might turn out well, but there are still a lot of unknowns at the moment.
I would have thought the club would focus on strengthening the coaching team before looking at anything like this.
Neil Warnock is very much a manager of the past which I do think that it's best kept that way. The best way that we progress, even if we do get a manager which we're not all happy with (Paterson anyone?) then if they back him up with a decent backroom (but not dedicated to the coach - more to the club and the cause). I think if we have an assistant, first team coaches etc, that may or may not have a link to the club then that puts us in a decent position.
i watched a video youtube where it explained the top 10 countries with gold reserves, a method that has been the longest means of securing a countries future if there were to be a collapse in currencies. it explained that for exchange of gold, you were given a piece of paper that would guarantee the value of the gold that you had given. the earliest form of money made from paper, which i thought was pretty interesting.
United States: Holds the largest gold reserves with 8,133 tonnes.
Germany: Second largest holder with 3,352 tonnes.
Italy: Holds 2,452 tonnes.
France: Has 2,437 tonnes.
Russia: Has 2,332 tonnes.
the video also mentioned how canada has sold all of its reserve in favour of investing in infrastructure and businesses that bring in money for them.
does it make sense to you to horde gold, so that if the financial system collapsed there is still something of value or do we live in an age where it makes no sense to stock so much gold? i thought this would be an interesting, but different type of discussion.
its scary to think if something happens, the most valuable things would be gold, food and water.
- Show previous comments 3 more
Gold might not be used in everyday trade anymore, but in a crisis, itโs one of the few things people still trust. That alone gives it lasting value.
I read that central banks have actually been increasing their gold reserves lately. That suggests they still see it as a safety net, even in modern times.
Youโd be daft not to keep hold of your gold. Canada is putting money into building its infrastructure and finding new ways to earn, which makes sense. But having no safety net is a bit naรฏve. I think itโs true that the UK stores gold for several countries, and most of it doesnโt even belong to us.

you just inherited billions and decided to pour it into football but this is no ordinary investment, this is your dream team. how would you build your fantasy club?
would you buy an established top flight side, take a punt on a lower league gem, or start fresh and form your own team from scratch?
if creating your own club, what would you name it and would you lean into tradition or go bold and modern?
would you rebrand an existing club with a new crest, kit, or even a redesigned stadium or respect its heritage?
do you see yourself hands on in running the club day to day, or would you put a strong team of staff in place to handle operations while you steer from above?
what steps would you take to win the fans over and leave a legacy thatโs remembered for generations?
how do you imagine all of this? if you had no budget limits, no boardroom politics and just a passion for football?
- Show previous comments 5 more
Good topic! I would probably stay well away from football to be honest. You have to put in a huge amount of money just to stand still, and spending is no guarantee of success.
But if money were no object, I'd buy the franchise and close it down. Then I'd take over Notts, make sure we had competent people running all parts of the club and give them a good budget.
Then we could sell cheap season tickets to fill the ground and build our support. Maybe even expand ML if necessary. Apart from having my face on the shirts instead of a sponsor's logo and a giant golden statue of myself on Meadow Lane, I'd keep a low profile.
If I had a billion pounds, Iโd buy Notts. The first thing Iโd do is bring in a proper security firm to deal with the troublemakers. Iโd ban them for life. I wouldnโt mind being controversial if it helped create a better atmosphere for the loyal, sensible and committed fans.
Just picture doing this with some of the worst fanbases in the country, some of them make Twitter trolls seem polite. Clearing out the bad apples would make it much easier to build the right team around the club.
I wouldnโt have a problem with criticism, but if someone canโt give proper feedback, I wouldnโt hesitate to show them the door.
Iโd change most of the coaching staff too. Iโd bring in top coaches and really push for developing local talent.
Fans would get a say in key decisions. Iโd also put serious money into the squad so the club could grow and reach its full potential.
I have often thought about how tempting it would be to buy Nottingham Forest, just to prove a point after the way they treated Nigel Doughty. It would also be about restoring the balance and making Notts County the top club in the city again.
Still, I donโt see any sense in throwing money at football. Too many people get involved for the wrong reasons, and they often take the credit when things go well. When they donโt, it turns sour quickly, even if your intentions are good.
Itโs not something Iโd want to put myself through. Iโd much rather spend the money improving Nottingham and supporting causes linked to the Magpies.
Notts have finally released a proper retro shirt that closely matches the original. I hope the club continues working with partners like this to bring back classic designs. Iโve never been keen on the cheap stuff The Terrace has put out.

3 hours ago, liampie said: bonus points to the fans who have the original shirt. ๐
I had the away shirt from that season (a turquoise number with purple and white blotches on it). Do I get a bonus point too? ๐
The badge and logos from that era were made of a nasty plastic foam material that cracked and peeled off. If they've replaced that with embroidery, all the better!
It has a strong retro 90s feel. Itโs nice, but itโs not the best Notts shirt Iโve seen.
Has anyone bought one yet? I'm curious if the sizing is like Puma, where I usually need to go a size up from what I'd normally wear.
I fear I have missed out on my chance at a purple shirt, 3 times this season its been in my basket, ready to checkout and the time its taken for me to type my Debit Card details, shirt out of stock.
The latest offing, email received at 1629 'In stock, Medium' i was on the shop page at 1633, tried to purchase 2, got a 'not enough stock' dropped it to 1, checked out at 1635. wallet grabbed, debit card typed in and BOOM, out of stock by 1638. tried to do it on the computer in case it was my phone being shite and already gone. So genuinely: Do we have the fastest fingered fans in the EFL? or is Notts on a personal mission to prevent me getting a purple shirt? is this Notts' way of telling me purple just isn't my colour?
Seperately, if anyone has bought 1 too many medium purple shirts; I'll be willing to discuss a purchase! bonus if you bought two so I can sort out my marge too but every man for himself in this purple shirt wasteland.
And finally, IF anyone who is in charge of Procurement and Purchasing at the club shop is reading this, if you're gonna run a limited edition next season. I AM BEGGING you, please please ensure supply matches demand...
RIP Purple third kit, gone but not forgotten (at least for this 'pie)

@themightymagpies,I get ya, and agree re; Notts' poor rewards for loyalty, but to counter, I; like many, live outwith Nottingham, I'm definitely a fan, and get to a game when I can; but I wouldn't qualify for that, nor would I stand a hope of, considering it can cost upwards of 100 quid for a ticket down south at times.
I think for Kit, DEFINITELY put a restriction on how many can be purchased; especially for high-demand items (Adult medium for instance) and maybe a 'club reward system' points based, and a certain amount of points equals a level; for example:
Season ticket holder: 100 points
Multiple year season ticket holder: 250 points
Audio Pass holder (piesplayer): 50 points
Per shop purchase: 5 points per 10ยฃ spent.
then levels up with rewards:
50 points = 10% discount in shop
100 points = 1 free video pass for a match not on Sky
etc.
If something like that is implemented, a rewards based system for purchase, they can easily control the demand for things like limited edition shirts, by releasing it in the tiers, so top tier gets access 2 weeks before, mid tier gets access 1 week before, then general release. it also will encourage sign-ups to mailing lists etc meaning they can sell more ad space.
I tell you, get me in front of the Notts Marketing team and we'll be buying Prem Players in no time! ;)
Sadly, we are Notts County, a club where mistakes do happen, and common sense doesnโt always come through.
Thatโs why we have the chant, โI had a wheelbarrow, the wheel fell off,โ because it feels like Notts were the ones who gave it to us that way. All jokes aside, the club is bound to get things wrong now and then, but Iโd like to believe theyโve taken something from the experience.
I canโt imagine the Reedtz brothers were pleased with the reaction or the letdown.

@allardyces tash,THIS is the way.
Are you too fussed about the backup keeper? With Alex Bass already here, and as long as he stays fit and ready, I'm curious to know what kind of keeper people would want brought in. I wouldnโt mind if the club signed a young, promising keeper to work under Bass, while still keeping space for a youth player to step in as the third choice if needed.
If the second-choice keeper can develop, get better, and prove reliable when called upon, that would be the best situation for us in my view.
- Show previous comments 12 more
To be honest, I think Notts could look overseas again when bringing someone in. Iโd be surprised if we didnโt end up signing someone from a smaller European country this time.
Thereโs so much talent out there, and as long as the work permit or placement isnโt a problem, I really think we might do just that.
To be fair it's the most thankless of roles in the squad. Normally it means if they're playing, there's a huge amount of pressure because of injury/suspension so every eye is on the player just look at Brookes a season or two ago. I think it'd need to be someone with a decent amount of games played.
I wouldn't mind seeing Archie Mair back. He never looked the most confident in goal, but there was clear potential there. Itโs been a few seasons since he was with us, and our defence has come on a lot since then. I do think thereโs something in going for someone more experienced.
At 24, you'd expect Mair to have played more games by now. That lack of match time is a bit of a concern.
Maybe we should be looking for a keeper who's had regular first team action, but also knows what itโs like to be a backup. That balance could suit us well.

55 years ago today, one of the best, if not the best international team, won the 1970 World Cup Final.
That Brazil team was simply sensational & they played a very good Italy team off the field.
As a thirteen year old I watched most of the matches on the BBC & ITV. The pictures were grainy but we were all used to that.
The pace of the match has increased, though not every game is this back and forth. It was a fantastic final. At times it felt like walking football, but the quality was still easy to see. Once the goals started going in, the match really came to life. I've watched older World Cup matches, and even when you already know the outcome, they can still be good fun to watch.
i have never had that connection with watching the world cup or euros, not when i was younger. it was only after 2010 when i first showed real interest in football, and that was more notts. i do like seeing games like this tho, you can appreciate how things have improved and its even better when people share their memories of it. watching the highlights, brazil still have no improved that much in defence. by far the best going forward, the level of confidence is off the scale.

Agent Trev makes up a lot of things. Every now and then, something might turn out to be true, but most of the time it's just nonsense. He's really not worth paying attention to. Some people used to think it was just a Notts fan having a laugh and trying to cause a stir.
I keep wondering when the club will announce the new head coach. It sounds like an agreementโs already in place and weโre just waiting for things to be finalised. If the contractโs done and it is the Danish coach, things could still shift if they reach the final. I doubt weโre the only ones keeping an eye on him, but hopefully weโll hear something soon.
Itโs certainly dragging on isnโt it? I guess that could mean this Danish chap could be the man, or perhaps the first choice has turned them down and they are searching again, who knows. ![]()

Hello, @Sheffield Pie. its been great see you joining in so far. welcome to the community from me.
Spot on @Robbie. He's had a tough couple of seasons and I'd like to see him do well somewhere. But maybe not against us!
Not massively surprising, I think heโll be a squad player even for them. Surprised that Barrow who had him on loan didnโt want to sign him, guess that's telling in way but heโd probably be happier there given itโs a hell of a lot closer to his family in Newcastle!
Still intrigued to see where Didzy ends up, maybe heโll have a change of heart (I can dream!). Austin, Morias and Cundy are still without new clubs too.
A good move for them, and I hope he gets into their first team and rebuilds his career. When he first joined us, I thought he looked decent. I just think he needed a bit more backing.
He had a few slip-ups in League Two, but overall I thought he did alright. Aiden Baldwinโs done well at Bradford City, fair play to him.
