  1. Cheltenham Town: Matt Sparrow and Shaun Harrad join on loan

<!--url{0}--> Cheltenham Town have signed Scunthorpe United midfielder Matt Sparrow and Notts County striker Shaun Harrad on loan until the end of the season.

Harrad, 30, returns to the Robins after scoring 10 goals during a season-long loan in 2012-13 to help them reach the League Two play-offs.

Sparrow, 33, has spent 13 years at Scunthorpe in two spells and played more than 430 games for the club.

Both players go into Cheltenham's squad to face Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

"Matt is a very good player, who will talk to the younger boys," Cheltenham Town boss Russell Milton said.

"I know Shaun very well and his goalscoring record speaks for itself, so he'll be a massive asset.

"Both players have been given glowing references from everyone I have spoken to, but I know a lot about them myself and they are just what we need."

Milton hopes to add another new face to his squad in the near future.

"We are close with a third, who can play at centre-half or in a holding midfield role and all three will give their best for this club.

"They are the sort of characters we need, so hopefully they can go on to become heroes for Cheltenham Town," he told the club website
  2. As the title says, when people say 'I retire' basically it means that they'll tempt fate when given the first opportunity!

Why? I played football and I said I had given it up. Jesus I'm 27, though considering my knee related problems it's understandable but I miss it. I twisted my left knee five minutes in, dropped to the ground in a lot of pain (I actually feared I had dislocated my knee). Man, I was shocking! That's after I got up.:huh::lol:

Mind I did score, either 2 or 3 times but that's not important.

@super_pie did ever so well! He's never played with adults before and I think having @the_dan1 mentoring him, he'll have a bright future.

Before anyone tells me I am mad, this was just a bit of fun but I do hope I can regain some strength in my knees from doing things.

I don't want to fear dislocating my knees or the fear of worse, it's actually a very positive thing because I overcame something I have been quite worried about.

  3. Welcome @NCC Magpie to Pride of Nottingham, brilliant first post buddy! Seems we have made a cracking signing here ;) Care to tell us a little bit about yourself? It's okay if you don't.

Just pleased to see another fan arrive and join in.

    See you around. You Pies!

  4. Oh how times have changed, thinking back to playing Port Vale in August and coming away from Burslem with a 2-0 win. Goals from Gary Jones and Liam Noble sealed the victory for us that day in front of a crowd of little more that 5000.

Here we are looking for players and staff that link the two clubs..There are a few, but this isn't going to be a record haul...

I will kick off with Kevin Pilkington

  7. Hello @mark, welcome to Pride of Nottingham. Thanks for taking the time to join us, I hope you like what you see here and join in when time permits. Care to tell us a little bit about yourself, such as how long you have supported Notts?

    You Pies!

  8. There are so many different brands and flavours of crisps on offer in our local Asda there is a whole row dedicated to crisps and snacks but what's your favourite?

We buy McCoys variety 6 pack from Heron for £1 a pack, they can be double that price in the supermarket. I love the fact that they are thick cut.

I also like those very thin chipsticks but struggle to find them.

  9. Yet another new member.Welcome to @SupersonicPie.Please join in and tell us a bit about yourself.

  12. welcome to pon @batonncfc, hope you like and enjoy what you see here.

  13. Trying to talk the other half into a puppy much later in the year. Will be a good companion for our old dog. I fancy a lab. Anyone else got one?

  14. This thread is for @Canadian who loves biscuits (I hate the Americanism cookies).

Which is your favourite? I love shortcake biscuits.

  15. Which Jan signings are paying off in your opinion?

Darren Bent seems to have found his mojo having scored 5 from 6, Aaron Lennon seems to be fitting in at Everton and Robert Huth seems to be making a difference at Leicester City.

  16. We hear a lot of 'how good are Barcelona to watch'.

Is it just me that they bore to death? It's like watching a Keith Curle side. Pointless passing for the sake of things. OK, their passes are punctuated by individual brilliance of Messi or Suarez. However, their constant sideways-backwards and forward only to come back - is so boring, you are half asleep by the time you get to see the brilliance.

  17. I'm coming to England soon and bringing the lady with me, and as has become the habit we're going to visit a town or city for a bit of a cultural expedition. We've already done London, Coventry, Lincoln and York, and for this time I've suggested going somewhere for a couple of nights, Chester, Durham, Stratford upon Avon, or possibly Newcastle or Birmingham. However, to my surprise she's suddenly developed an interest in going to Liverpool.

Liverpool is one of the places I've never visited. Apart from the "three graces", is it worth visiting?

  18. Earlier today Notts Youth entertained York City at Arnold Town's ground.

Notts were three points off second place while York, who Notts defeated in October 7-1, were a point above the bottom place in the table so hopefully three points were there to be won.

Although cold, the game began in beautiful sunshine.

Notts were well on top in the early stages with the visiting keeper pulling off save after save tipping shots over the bar and round the post to keep Notts at bay.  But after 25 minutes they finally broke through when Yohann curled a fabulous shot into the corner of the net from distance to go ahead.

Five minutes later a left foot strike from Blaney from 35 yards into the top corner of the goal increased the 'Pies' lead to 2-0 with a shot that must be in contention for goal of the season.

Right on half-time Larty Sarpong went on an individual run past two or three York defenders before unleashing a shot into the far corner for a 3-0 half-time lead.

In the second half Notts continued to camp in the York half of the pitch and the pressure finally told when Larty Sarpong was brought down inside the penalty area.  Colby Bishop stepped forward to coolly slot the ball home low to the keepers left and just inside the post for a 4-0 lead.

It was 5-0 soon after when a quality cross from the right wing was headed home by Colby Bishop.

On 55 minutes, in a goalmouth scramble, it became 6-0 when centre-back Rhys Myers put away the loose ball with an acrobatic overhead kick.

Ten minutes later Reco Fyfe, back from his loan spell at Grantham and on as a substitute drove a loose ball powerfully into the net to make it 7-0.

More chances came without being taken but this was a superb display by the young 'Pies putting a below par York City side to the sword.

As well as putting out a team to win the game, Paul Hart and Mick Halsall are clearly looking to next season with two under 16 players and four first year scholars in the starting XI.

Bernstein has called for the FA and EU to boycott the 2018 World Cup in Russia, to try and force reform of FIFA. Should we and do you think that this would work? What else could we do to force reform?

  20. Now I don't think I'm being too negative when I say that we are in a really bad run of form, but why has so much changed from the first third of the season?

Was it loan players going back, the management team losing the dressing room, poor tactics, or simply that we are just playing better teams than us? On a more positive note, what could we do to fix it!

I'd like to hear all of your thoughts.

  21. We've spent the day walking round the NEC at the caravan, motorhome and camping show. We've always been keen on camping in one form or another and have worked our way up from small tents, large tents, trailer tents, caravans (until we had a major accident towing) to Motorhomes (our present preferred camping unit).

The NEC is enormous and there were lots of different sized Motorhomes there to look at, we prefer smaller ones, we didn't buy anything unlike one year when we went "for a look round" and ended up ordering a brand new van! However we had a great but exhausting day, met some friends, had a coffee and a chat.

Anyway that was my day, what y'all been up to today?

  22. just for @notts-joe
