I feel sorry for him in a way, always seemed a player to play in a number of positions but one could never say he could be classed as an out and out specialist in any, when compared to other squad members he was competing with.

As the title suggests, what would your ideal team and formation be from the current squad? I don't think it's as easy as it sounds as other than defence we actually have a quality squad.

I would go for at home

                       Carrol

Hewitt     McKenzie   Bennett   Milsom

                      Swerts

Snijders    Aborah    Noble     Valencic/Campbell

                     McLoed

Away from home the back five would remain the same, I would be inclined to go a little more narrow and play Spencer / Stead alongside McLoed with either one replacing Snijders.

Quite a lot more difficult than I first thought!! ha ha

Loach,   7.5  Not really tested but extremely competent

Wildin,    7   Another match, I am convinced he will Right Back for years to come

Amevor  7  Cool and comfortable

Audel    6 Good in defence, distribution let him down

Sharpe, 6.5 Improving...some good crosses

Noble   6.5 sub'd at h/t

Valencic  6.5 some nice passes

De Silva, 6.in central midfield, did a reasonable job

Gibson  7  grew as the game progressed, good goal

Bishop 5 still not seeing any real hope in terms of goal scoring threat.

Snijders 5.5 disappointed that he failed to make most of his opportunity. Well marshalled by their defence

Subs

Clayton Naute 4 Too lightweight

Sarpong  5 Nothing of note

Aghatise 6 Pencil in for central defence for next seasons squad

Layton not on long enough to rate

I know I'm supposed to wait for the match thread to appear in the forums, but I can't wait. No doubt a virtual punishment awaits me....I can take it.......:)

We lost 2-1 at Wimbledon back in September. Hayden Hollis gave us the lead but 2 goals in the last 5 minutes meant a deserved victory for the home side. Hayden gave an interview where he said he had a plan to deal with The Beast, but it clearly didn't work as The Beast scored a last minute winner. Not too many can handle The Beast so we'll forgive Hayden....

Wimbledon are 8th in the table, 8 places above Notts. They have 39 points (6 more than Notts). They have scored 38 goals (same as Notts) and conceded 32 goals (12 less than Notts. They are on a 5 game unbeaten run. They have dispatched Cambridge, Exeter and Mansfield in their last 3 games and have looked mighty impressive in doing so.

Wimbledon have been using a 4-3-3 formation but they abandoned that at half time against Mansfield as they were 1 down at half time. They went to a 4-4-2 formation and dominated the 2nd half. I think they'll go back to 4-4-3 at Meadow Lane as the wide pitch will allow them to get the ball wide and get crosses in or diagonal balls to open Notts up. They are dangerous because they have options. They could go down the long ball route to take advantage of Notts defensively. That worked back in September.

Wimbledon's main creative force is Tom Elliott. If it is 4-4-3, he'll play on the right side. His ability to pick a pass is something Notts have to be aware of. Their main goalscoring threat is Lyle Taylor. He has 10 goals so far. He's full of confidence at the moment. If Wimbledon go 4-4-2, expect Azeez to start. He's a pacey player and knows where the goal is. He will make an appearance at some stage if he starts on the bench. George Francombe is injured which is good news for Notts.

Wimbledon are a well drilled side. They are difficult to beat. Playing at Meadow Lane won't faze them. It's up to Notts to make it uncomfortable for them. The Beast destroyed Notts back in September. Hopefully he starts on the bench. It will be interesting to see their line up. If The Beats starts, expect a direct approach. If he doesn't, they'll attack us out wide. It should a fascinating battle. Who'll win? I haven't a clue. It's 50/50. I'll sit on the fence and go for 1-1.

What's that noise in the background?

Oh yes it's  sort of sizzling sound.

Time to go for food. Anyone for a squid?

At the moment I see no reason to spend a Saturday afternoon attending the lane. Season ticket or not, you've still got to make a decision based on pure facts.

The fact being we were s!#t. We still are. We have a manager that has never ...Well...managed before and his tactical (or lack of) knowledge will show through.

Oh well. At least he can do a good PowerPoint hey?

Damp squib = wet firework that fizzles out. No bang, no boom, nada, nothing.

Damp squid = fish-out-of-water, highly likely to die, probably a bit stinky.

Either phrase could sum up yesterdays game??

Elite has already posted elsewhere... I would respect a reporter to at least be objective. If that was a 6/10 performance especially for the likes of Bennett, well I am a Tarkers like damp squib / squid.

Amending Jimmy's famous words...The best team always win, the rest is just a Powerpoint presentation (only gossip)

Bennett got a 6/10 for what avoiding the ball all game and hiding Jesus Christ do these journalists watch the same game or was he at the one with Fullarton.

Cause according to fail margin we was in the ascendency until they score no we wasn't and if Adams scores the game changes no it doesn't.

We played defense for 90 mins had one midfielder wingers no point as we just hoof it or play a left back on the wing.

Its moniz all over but zero experience players out of postions thinking we was in charge when we was never also what's this obssssion that Hewitt is a centre back?

I don't rate him at right back as he gets caught out far to easy stead is 6ft3 an has the strengh of a packet of crisps wind blows him over.

So we play hoof ball an he thinks hmm I need a change let's take of McLeod who won more balls then stead all game off his chest or head an let's bring on Murray who's 5ft6 Max.

But yet we have a 6ft2 target man who's first touch is better then most you'd see in the championship and is physical an strong but na lets bring on the small man an hoof it up to him.

I can't wait for the plan at Luton alrite lads 8 at the back 2in the middle 1 up top an hoof it

I was interested in hearing peoples stories and tales about notts!

This gentleman was telling me how he would always see Pedro Richards after matches and Pedro would give him a cigar that another player had given him, but one match we weren't playing very well in the first half, so this gentleman sees Pedro after expecting a cigar like usual, only for Pedro to turn around and say he had smoked it at half time after such a stressful first half!

On the latest PONCast we discuss whether Notts County should be looking to play attacking football and entertain the fans. Notts Joe thinks we should. I think we should just look to grind out wins first and foremost. Listen to the discussion on the PONCast and tell us what you think.

Quote. Glenn...  (well Leigh, you have certainly formed your own opinion on what is "quality")

The qualitity of the players being left out also is very surprising/concerning, not to mention the exclusion of many if not all of the continental players. Could this mean that there are transfer-window activities going on for those players which we don't yet know about? I would especially think that those who were specifically recruited by Moniz can't wait to get out.

Who do you mean, Glenn? What quality? Aborah is injured at the moment after picking up a knock in training on Friday. Not sure who you mean outside of that.

I make no apologies for re-marketing an old invention of mine, here on PON.

Some may say that I am trying to make money from poor, misguided Notts fans.....my reply is that we have all thrown so much cash at Notts over the last few decades that surely an extra few quid is meaningless....plus I get rich...yum yum.....here goes........

I have noticed, in our current run of bad form, that I am becoming more agitated and upset on Saturdays.

At my age, my Mexican Doctor friend has told me to "calm down" and watch the old ticker, and just lately I find my Friday night rompy-pompy session with her lacking its usual verve and vigour.
Why?...because I am worried about Saturday, and even those little blue pills leave me half-hearted!

Something has to be done...so I have a cunning plan.

Only watch the half of the pitch that Notts are attacking...........................................Tarkers you are a genius I hear you cry.

Yesterday I practised for 90 minutes on an old Youtube footy video with one hand over one eye...very tiring, plus the crowd noises were off-putting whenever a goal was scored in the half I couldn't see.

I sorted the sound issues by plugging my ears with cotton wool and humming the theme of Dambusters!

I have now come up with a prototype model of what I think everyone will agree, is the perfect Matchday solution.

Obviously this is just the basic model, and that is reflected in the bargain price of £2.99 (plus shipping via Bandito Air)
The added bonus, is that when you remove the prototype from its box, you can copy the location of eyeholes etc onto the remaining box and give it to the Mrs as a Valentines/Xmas/Birthday present...she will be delighted!

OK, here are the instructions.
1).....Take box to ML.
2)......Sit near the halfway line (obviously this will not work in the Kop unless you lie down horizontally)!!
3)......Once teams have decided which half to attack, pop out the perforated eye-hole in the side corresponding to the opposition goalie. It is extremely important to get this bit right as watching the wrong goalie in action may increase the risk of a heart attack!!
4).....Insert cotton wool from accessory bag into ears.
5)......Start humming Dambusters.
6).....At halftime, patch up original eyehole with sticky tape from accessory bag and pop out the other eye-hole (alternatively you can keep original eye-hole and just stand on your head............ or pretend you are an opposition supporter and walk around to the JS stand). Note do NOT attempt to stand on head if you purchase the Super Deluxe version,,,,see below!!

Depending on the success of the prototype, I have plans for a deluxe model involving the last of the Google Glasses and repeats of the Notts v Brighton Play-off final.
Imagine the surprise around you, as we are getting thumped by Bodgers XI and you are shouting..."Go on Tommy...yesssssss, you beauty"

The Super-Deluxe model involves 4 cans of Double Diamond, strapped inside the "helmet" and an intricate array of tubing!
Currently having problems with this model as the balancing causes sideways slippage and all the sucking caused me to blackout yesterday!

Welcome to the Pride of Nottingham @BarcelonaPie, hope to see you chipping in with your views.

Feel free to tell us a bit about yourself too. You Pies!

What is the point???

I can't see myself going back for a long time.

Why can't we stop thinking outside the box and just appoint someone with proper experience.

Very badly disappointed and can only see the conference on the horizon.

If young kids lost respect for him how long is it going to take relatively highly paid league 2 players??

Absolute joke baiscally

"Think he's very good on the ball. He's one of the best passers, but defensively he is not good enough to play holding midfield. He lets players run off him and doesn't track runs. Go and watch the first half of the Oxford game and see how much they used it to their advantage. Until he improves that side of his game, I don't think we will see much of him unless it's a position further up the pitch. "

If he is reflecting Jamie's view ( I am not saying that he is, by the way), I am very concerned. The best dead ball deliverer we have at the Club.

Seems that the most obvious thing is being done immediately.

Well done Notts and I hope to see Bennett get a fir crack of the whip now, starting with Saturday.

http://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/article/scot-bennett-recalled-from-newport-county-afc-2879031.aspx

Hate to say it after Saturday's hoof football against a side who are clearly physical and good in the air I think it's clear to see we can still go down this year.

And for Fullarton to think we were in the ascendency he was smoking some strong stuff we hardly had a chance other then Blair Adams hit the post.

We offerd no threat no attempt to pass and move we offered McLeod stead zero service or chances we parked the bus at home in 0 mins we made mental descions.

We have wingers such as valencic Snidjers Burke but we play Adams as a left mid who didn't do a lot zero pace we played Bennett as a midfielder an a swear with my own eyes he was avoiding the ball at all costs hiding out the way.

He clearly wasn't comfortable there also Hewitt is not a CB its there to see his postional sense is a joke holis just hoofs it at every chance doesn't look for a pass Stanley will not fit this system as he can pass move pass move .

Honesty I can't see us beating Hartlepool or York or Stevenage or mansfailed I think we are in serious trouble in next few months still no assistant either I also saw we played with one midfielder in Curtis who I felt very sorry for and surprised he didn't lose his rag.

He was chasing trying to get on the ball an make something happen as Bennett didn't even try to get on the ball Spencer I really don't get big strong physical good in the air holds his own gives as good as he gets but can't get a game in a league that suits his style.

Murray lively quick battler doesn't give up chases losts causes can't get a game at home outrageous Murray does more then stead does in 5 mins also if we are going to play hoof it which looks clearly the plan put Spencer in at least wel have someone who can hold it or do somat with it.

I hate to say it if this gets into a relegation scrap the gates will be very short soon an someone may have to give cooper a call becuase Saturdays show showed no sign of football other then Wimbledon who hoofed it all game an had joy from it

I didn't get to go as I needed to work even though I'm self employed. So what where peoples thoughts on the game against the Wombles of Wimbledon?? I thought the idea behind changing the manager was to possibly make a serious challenge for a play off place. This clearly isn't the case with the same old problem of wrong team selection and playing players out of position AGAIN!!!! As soon as I saw the line up and the way JF had set them up I could only see one result, a lose!!

So if the plan is to tread water this season what is the point me spending my hard earned cash at Meadow Lane in the future?? Over 35 years of supporting Notts I've never had this feeling of very little hope and boy have we been in some dire situations in the past.

Adam Murray of Mansfield has said that he wants to sign Adams on a permanent deal, this maybe a good deal for both parties if we bring in Sheehan, I didn't think Adams was too bad last year but Moniz just didn't like him

Saturday's Fixtures:
Bolton Wanderers v Milton Keynes Dons
Middlesbrough v Nottingham Forest
Oldham Athletic v Bury
Southend United v Coventry City
Bristol Rovers v Plymouth Argyle
Portsmouth v Oxford United

The following reserve fixtures in the Final Third Development League will be played at Meadow Lane this month:

12th v Doncaster Rovers (2pm)

19th v Scunthorpe United (2pm)

26th v Hartlepool United (2pm)

Prices are £3 Adults, £1 concessions.  I have fond memories of attending reserve games in the old North Midlands League way back in the 70s and seeing players like Pedro and Benji graduate to the first team, so I'll try and give these a go.

This is something I've been doing for years, but it seems to cause controversy with many.  Some say it's disloyal and shows you're not a true supporter, but I don't understand why.  It has no influence whatsoever on the match result however much is staked.  I pretty much paid for my season ticket backing the opposition in McParland's full season.  I could see we were an awful team so I took advantage of some very generous odds.  That didn't mean I wanted to see Notts lose.  I only bet modest stakes, usually a fiver of tenner, and 3 points gives me much more pleasure than a few quid in my bank account.  Does anyone on here who has a footy bet ever bet against Notts?

Ray,

I'll make sure a team in stripes wins to nil at ML every game....

We've shared some nice milestones together as a set of fans, This includes our first 1k of posts, the first member of the month (also the one's which follow) each members who break a milestone in their own post count. The first time one of our articles reached 10 facebook likes, first 100 likes on our facebook page and many more which I may not of mentioned. Each one is very important to a growing community, I have to admit I do get easily excited about these things but it's for good reasons.

Today, we reached one I am very, Very PROUD about.

Pride of Nottingham now ranks no.1 on google if you was to search 'Pride of Nottingham' using the search engine. This for myself, well I'm delighted. I stupidly ran down stairs, called my parents and scooped poor Jake and Ava up and started singing 'We're number one'. Stupid for the reason it's a tad bit of weight for my knee! LOL

I'm also happy for the reason when Tony first appeared and then briefly disappeared, he came back mentioning searching for us and this has always stuck with me. I'm happy to say if any of our dear friends searched, you shouldn't be scared by what you find at no. 1!!

Thank you very much! GREAT COMMUNITY EFFORT.
Joe

Just out off interest our do members off this site travel to away games? do you use official travel  or none official
