It looks just in to me, you decide.

Looks inside, Walsall fans called it right but hey ho. No need to cry over spilt milk :P

Just to play devils advocate...

Holiis is definitely inside the box, but is his arm forwards meaning the ball never actually made its way into the box.... does a pen in these circumstances depend on the ball or the player?

Posted

His arm probably went up, which would have been hand to ball. Not ball to hand, really it's a penalty no matter what.

For me it's definitely a pen & Hollis could do with a couple of games on the sidelines to reflect on his season so far as by all accounts he was absolutely shocking yesterday and not much better last week.

He has come on leaps & bounds recently but he also needs to understand that what he has been doing wrong

@tonyhateley Thanks for sharing.

In the movement of the game this would have been hard to call, I was not sure if the ref gave it or the assistant but this shows it was the right call.

I thought at the match that it looked outside but seeing this picture it's very close call but I think it's inside the penalty area....just.

i felt the same, difficult really. glad we was not robbed but that the ref made a good call.

@notts-joe can you edit this?

I could have sworn it was just outside, it just shows how differently the fans view things.

Very marginal decision, but there's no clear evidence the officials were wrong, so to me it's fair enough.

I don't want banning by the Football League! :P

We have had some wonderful Centre halves at Notts, Watson, Needham Yates, We have also had the likes of Stubbs,  Kiiler, and Sims who lacked a little in the fine arts of the game, but were happy to stop those who possessed them. Hayden Hollis falls into this bracket. He has been a major part in our run of success, winning the ball, and stopping opponents. He is a stopper! It is only when he tries to  do more than this that things go wrong,

We may wish him to be a sports car, but he is a JCB. that works very hard for the team. Lets not criticise him things he will never be able to do.

AS for the penalty:

  • his foot is on the line
  • He is leaning forward so his body is in line with the foot.
  • His arm is stretched out in front of him.

Can the ball be in the area?

The important thing is that the referee, who is not in the picture, and has no8 possibly obscuring his view. needs to be 100% sure it was inside before he can give a penalty. I dont see how he can give it

Disappointed in the decision, it was harsh. That close up you are always likely to catch something, it should be decided if it was on target. Looking at the pic, it looks like it might have been well wide.

Like the majority of their chances!

Some interesting comments there guys and. for what its worth, I thought Notts deserved a share of the points whether it was in the area or not. I said all along I thought it was just inside the box. I'm a  believer that over the course of the season these things even themselves out and there will be such a decision that will go your way.

So the penno has it on a split decision

Posted

I felt it was harsh, i still do.

It does show it was inside so it is the correct decision but it is a pretty cruel way to lose the game.

I feel a draw would have been fairer, however the defence made a couple of errors. We need to see how they react now, though I am confident that me will move on from here in a positive way. This sort of thing last season would have been more difficult to digest.

I don't think we should blame Garry Jones or Haydn Hollis though, we was just unlucky.

It was a penalty all day long, it was never in dispute.  I spent ages trying to placate the bloke next to me who swore it "was outside the box" - not sure whether some people are simply half blind or just completely blinkered.

Half of Notts fans moan about the referee when the don't actually understand the laws of the game (i.e.Carroll's penalty faux pas), and/or can't exercise balanced judgement themselves (when any fk is awarded against Notts or a Notts player falls over).  It is quite amazing really, but there we are.

@Piety, apparently the ref signalled a free kick then changed his mind because the linesman said it was a penalty.
