Northampton Town (A): Player Ratings

Here we go then guys and girls here are my player ratings for the trip to Sixfields. I attended the game and was well happy with a point and a clean sheet away from home.

Based on /10.

Fitzsimmons - 7.5/10 (MOTM) - Positioning still needs work and will come with time. Brilliant saves made and in the second half stopped us from going 1-0 down. Really happy for him today to finally get this clean sheet. Few silly positioning errors but apart from that spot on and looked like the keeper he was last year. Well Done Fitz!

Tootle - 5/10 - Average. Didn't really offer much in attacking movements but did his job OK in defence. A few careless passes but he was just trying to create something so will give the benefit of the doubt. 

Turley - 6/10 - Another solid performance. Really see this guy fitting in well. He is the definition of 'If in doubt, kick it out' which is something I think we need in the back 4. My MOTM up until half time.

Ward - 6/10 - Decent performance. Did his job well.

Evina - 5/10 - Dropped off from last week but did his job well and read the game well too. Good performance.

Boldewjin - 6/10 - Used his pace well and caused the Cobblers defence a few issues, he switched up and opted to cut on his inside instead of his outside and get shots off so to me this shows that he is unpredictable and really shows his quality and understanding of the game.

Milsom - 6/10 - Solid! Doing exactly what is required of him. Maybe a little better first touch is needed but apart from that no qualms.

Husin - 4.5/10 - Played well but I am still not happy with his delivery. He is wasted on set pieces when we have Evina and Alessandra who can both provide deadly balls into the box. He chased balls he lost though and recovered well. Bit better deliveries and I will be changing his ratings in the future.

Alessandra - 6/10 - Few good shots taken and played well out on the right hand side. Instructions were understood and did what was required. Unfortunate not to get a goal.

Stead - 5/10 - 550th league appearance. Love the man! Lot of effort put in today but was marked well and therefore isolated. But what a career this guy has had. Legend!

Hemmings - 6/10 - Best chance of the game when he hit the bar. Unlucky not to get a goal. Northampton's defence marked him well and he struggled to latch onto loose balls. However he played well and as always the effort is always there with him. 

 

Subs:

Hewitt - 5/10 - Didn't make an impact but held his own.

Osbourne - 5/10 - No impact made but I assume this sub appearance was to boost his confidence maybe for Kewell's future plans with him?

 

Overall I think it was a good point away from home. Northampton had the better chances and if it wasn't for Fitz today we could've lost this game. But overall we are unbeaten in 2 and it's little things like this we can build on. Crewe is a big test for all players next week as in my opinion we should breeze past these at home. They didn't recruit well and are in such bad away form. 3pts next week is a must I think. COYP!!!!

I would swap Fitzsimons rating with Turley's but otherwise I would agree @samwatto2008.

based on my mean of 5/10

Fitzsimons 7.5 A well organised defence in front of him, Fitz wasnt exposed to a constant barrage of headers / shots from unmarked players. Made a superb save towards the end which gained us the point. Really good to see the support giving him a great ovation  at the end of the match. Still a couple of  positioning errors but was a confident improvement on recent offerings. MoTM

Toots 6 a return to the Toots we expect. OK made one mistake which led to a serious breakaway by Northampton. Diligent in the tackle

Turley 6 No nonsense centre half, don't make mistakes, clear when you have to and mark your man

Ward 6 Used his experience well, again marking well

Evina 6 Really neat footballer. Had a real battle with Crooks but tackled well.

Boldewijn 6.5 Northampton had done their homework and made sure his ability to cut inside was limited. Had a great chance second half but a half hearted hit straight at the keeper could have been so much better. 

Milsom 5 Lacks the stature and mobility of O'Connor but does the simple things well

Husin 6 Midfield king-pin. Just don't ask him to take dead balls, which are too "vanilla". Disappointed he was subbed. Showed some fight and willingness to tackle which was absent before

Alessandra 3.5  Offered nothing down his flank. Guaranteed to lose possession if played to him, just lost count. Northampton defenders had nothing to worry about in an offensive mode, it was quite easy for them to nick the ball off him

Stead 5 well marshalled and had one good shot. Thought Barnett of Northampton  did a good job. Having said that, officials missed a blatant penalty for an off the ball shirt tugging foul.

Hemmings  6 One great shot which keeper got fingertips too. Still not the goal scoring threat expected for 100k wonga

 

Subs 

Hewitt 4 another lesson in giving the ball away, though covers the ground

Osborne 5 Good to see the lad given a few minutes

Fitzsimmons - 6.5/10 - 2  great saves but still not commanding his area Positioning still needs work and hopefully a confidence booster today.

Tootle - 5/10 - concentrated on defensive duties. Steady game.

Turley - 7.5/10 - MOTM solid performance. Great to see somebody with a voice at the back.

Ward - 6/10 -  Did his job well.

Evina - 5/10 - Will get better.

Boldewjin - 6/10 - Not quite as effective this week.

Milsom - 6/10 - Solid display again. Good to have him back.

Husin - 5/10 - Decent performance & will get better.

Alessandra - 6/10 - Always works hard.  Unfortunate not to get a goal.

Stead - 5/10 - tried his best. Should have had a penalty.

Hemmings - 6/10 - Best chance of the game when the keeper pushed his shot onto the bar. Unlucky not to get a goal. Love the boy’s commitment & effort.

Notts must have performed better defensively yesterday, its just finding that balance now I feel.

Fitzsimmons - 7/10  - He had moments of madness but overall a large improvement and it's good to see him being vocal.

Tootle -  5/10 - Not his best but just an average performance by him. 

Turley - 6/10 - Very solid at the back, he played well. 

Ward -  6/10 - A few moments but generally his experience came through when needed.

Evina - 5/10 -  Good first away game but he could have done more and played better.

Boldewjin - 6/10 - He tried but he was very quiet, he wasn't able to work his magic much. 

Milsom - 5/10 -  Quiet and average but that's Milsom sometimes.

Husin -  4/10 -  I'm not sure why he's starting so much, I felt he was the worst on the pitch for Notts.

Alessandra - 5.5/10 - He struggled to get involved or to influence the game but he did okay.

Stead - 4/10 - I don't knock his effort he worked hard to try to get in but the service to him limited his performance for me.

Hemmings - 5/10 - Like Stead he made effort but a part from the odd chance he didn't do a great deal. 

 

Subs:

Hewitt - N/A - I can't rate him because he seems lost with what his role is exactly.

Osbourne - 6/10 - Looked good when he had the ball and confident which is good to see.

Fitzsimmons - 6.5  - Much better performance but Northampton didn't test him much bar the odd shot

Tootle - 4 - He looked sluggish and not like he normally would 

Turley - 7 - Outstanding and confident throughout the game 

Ward - 6 - Reliable and did his job 

Evina - 5 - Looked unimpressive for the most parts

Boldewjin - 6 - Worked hard but never got going

Milsom - 5 - Average by his standards but did well at times

Husin - 5 - Not that impressed with him, I felt he lacked 'fight' 

Alessandra - 5.5 - Tried I admit but looked empty and useless for the most part

Stead - 5 - Not his best game but like others have said there was hardly any service 

Hemmings - 6 - Looked more likely to score off his own back, he had a couple of good chances and helped create one

 

Subs:

Hewitt - 5 - Not the player he was last season

Osbourne - 6 - Looked interested and keen to get on the ball

No, I didn't go, and even worse I'm off on holiday on Friday so I'll miss the next two home games.

Fitzsimmons - 6 - Good game, commanded his defence better and generally looked fine.

Tootle - 4 - He seemed off by his own standards, he could have done a lot better.

Turley - 7.5 - Outstanding performance, centre back is his position and he made a real difference.

Ward - 6 - Solid and reliable, he did very well. 

Evina - 5 - Average game, he could have done so much more. 

Boldewjin - 5.5 - Missing link, unsupported by those near him but he tried.

Milsom - 5 - He did okay, that's all I can say. 

Husin - 3 - He didn't do well in my opinion and rightly noticed by Kewell.

Alessandra - 4 - Not his best game, he seemed off after his last performance. 

Stead - 6 - He ran his socks off, held the ball up nicely and drawn some good fouls that Grant would have taken if here.

Hemmings - 6 - Played well, he probably should have scored but he worked well.

 

Subs:

Hewitt - 3 -  I see no reason why he came on, he looked unsure and fairly out of the game.

Osbourne - 5 - He did okay and looked comfortable but he did not have much to do.

I will try to always give my opinion on the games I go to see, it's great seeing more fans do the same.

Great job with the ratings, I might stick a post up comparing the last 4 or so games to see where certain members think they could improve.
