Notts County's head coach, Luke Williams, has provided an encouraging injury update ahead of the highly anticipated match against Stockport County. In a pre-match interview, Williams revealed that both David McGoldrick and Kyle Cameron are back in contention, having trained well during the week. However, the team will still be without Will Randall, Lewis Macari, and Junior Morias due to injuries. *Williams expressed his satisfaction with the team's overall health, stating, "Both those guys are back in contention. They've both trained this week, so that's good news for us. We're pretty healthy." Looking back at last week’s game, Williams didn’t shy away from recognising the hurdles the team had to overcome. "We've been on a long crusade since I arrived here. We cannot stand still. If we stand still, we go backward, and that's where I have to continue to try to push the group," he emphasised. Williams highlighted the importance of maintaining a high level of performance and not solely focusing on results. "We have to demand more from everybody. We're controlling the game, but we're missing that spark. It's my job to push the players to continue," he added. Regarding the long-term absence of key midfielder Matt Palmer, Williams admitted its impact on the team. "He's a player that gives us a heartbeat and a rhythm that we don't have. He's irreplaceable," Williams stated. However, he emphasised the collective effort required to compensate for Palmer's absence, saying, "We have to find a way, but yeah, without Matty, something is missing." When it comes to the team’s recent performance, Williams was clear - it’s all about keeping a steady pace. "We haven't changed. We haven't changed. We know where we are, and we know what we need to do to improve our performance," he clarified. Looking ahead to the upcoming match against Stockport County, Williams praised their opponents, acknowledging their impressive run and progress over the seasons. "I think they're doing incredible things. They're quite clearly the standout team. I'll be amazed if they're not champions this season," he admitted. Finally, addressing recent rumours linking him to Swansea City, Williams responded, "It's very flattering, but I need to concentrate on doing my job here." He clarified that there had been no official contact from Swansea. As the anticipation builds for the upcoming clash against Stockport County, Williams' focus remains unwavering. Despite the challenges and the injuries, his commitment to pushing the team forward is evident. His respect for the opponents and his humility in the face of rumours shows a leader who is grounded and focused. As fans, we can only wait with bated breath for the match, knowing that Notts is in capable hands. Explore the ‘topicfeed’ page on Pride of Nottingham, a hub for our forum content. I think Luke Williams is absolutely right in calling the loss of Matt Palmer a major blow to our rhythm. Palmer is one of those players whose influence is tangible every time they're on the field. A great side doesn't always have to have star players, but when one of your leaders is absent, it does affect the chemistry of the team. That being said, his absence also provides a perfect opportunity for other team members to step up and prove their mettle. This is what separates good clubs from great ones, the ability to make the team work regardless of changes and loss of key players.11 points

I agree with Williams about Stockport County's impressive run this season. They've been standing out as a tough team to beat. But rather than being intimidated, our team, guided by Williams, should take this as a motivation and challenge to step up our game. Resources and strategies are important but ultimately, it's the grit and determination on the pitch that will dictate the result.11 points

it's heartening to see a coach who's realistic but determined. Williams' emphasis on continuous growth and learning is the kind of leadership that defines an era for a football team. 'We cannot stand still' - these words should be the club's rallying cry as we navigate our journey throughout the rest of the season.10 points

Williams' transparency in addressing rumours linking him to Swansea City showcases his unwavering commitment towards Notts County. Amidst the speculations and possible distractions, he has maintained his focus on improving the club's performance and getting the team ready for the upcoming matches. As a long standing fan, I greatly admire his integrity and dedication to the club.9 points

We need to recognise our current situation and put an end to the drama. If the players can address what’s hindering us, a positive outcome is all we need. I doubt this will happen against a strong Stockport County, but I’m weary of the constant negativity as if we’re facing relegation.9 points

Williams’ dedication to the team’s health is commendable. He grasps the significance of keeping the momentum going in the game. The team’s resilience is evident in how we tackle obstacles, particularly when dealing with player injuries. It’s encouraging to see Williams’ efforts to maintain team morale, despite the absence of some players due to injuries.8 points

similar to @Joshua, i want us to snap out of this feeling sorry for ourselves. notts needs to regroup and forget the previous fixtures, with christmas coming up we need to make every effort towards making it an enjoyable time. if we lose tomorrow, so be it but lets come back stronger and more determined.8 points

A massive loss not to have Matt Palmer around, but this is what we mean when we say, it's a team game. Everyone else needs to step up!7 points

If Notts can somehow score first, that would be a good thing. Usually, that alone boosts our players’ confidence. I don’t have high hopes for the game, I think it’s hard to believe we will win. At the same time, I hope they don’t find it easy to break us down because that would be an extra setback that will make it harder to recover from. The team just needs to work hard and try to get through the game as best as they can.7 points

A big welcome to @StanfordPie we’d love to learn a little more about you, how long have you been a Notts fan?6 points

Indeed, it's about raising the standard of play rather than merely focusing on results. Wholeheartedly agree with Williams' take on this.6 points

So pleased to hear that McGoldrick and Cameron are back in training. Their presence on the pitch will make great difference.6 points

It's going to be interesting, our support hasn't faulted and still continues to sell-out what allocation we get. I hope for the travelling fans that effort is put in and that they have something pleasing to show for the journey. We know what Kyle Wootton is all about. Yet they have a squad full of good talent, and they aren't lacking attacking options. I think we need to get a feel of the game before we even remotely think of bringing the ball back. That just adds pressure onto us from the start; we need to get natural movement and work at creating chances at the other hand. If our midfield can hold onto the ball and use it well, we have the players who can turn the tide at the other end. I'm just worried that Stockport are in such fine form, with all of their attacking options. It will make Notts lack the confidence to apply themselves, and we really should be making teams work harder to get results against us. It's not worth thinking about, Nay. Hopefully Notts can make it much harder for them than we have made it easy for others.6 points

Stockport's confidence is sky high at the moment. They have been playing well. That 8-0 win against Sutton could easily have been 10 or 11. Notts have lost their way. There's a game plan but the players don't seem to have any confidence in it. I'd imagine a home win will be the first entry on many betting slips this weekend and you can understand why.6 points

Ideally, we need a positive result. There was a time earlier in the season when I thought we could get something from this game, but we’re currently lacking in many areas. If Stockport play to their potential, it could be quite a spectacle for them. A bit of spirit and fight would be welcome, as would avoiding self-destruction. But the most important thing is to strive for the best possible outcome.6 points
-
I miss the feeling of potential victory, as now it seems like we’re destined to lose, and I have a feeling it will be due to our own mistakes. Stockport County could have a great game against us if we don’t show up or play our best. I would have predicted a draw before our recent form, but now I feel they will win. They have everything in their favour, and we’re still in a slump with no signs of getting better.6 points

It's like if EMR had admitted the percentage of times a train actually set off on time from Nottingham station. It's only going to cause negative fan reaction. Already this season Notts have been on the end of poor officiating, as mentioned by Luke Williams at the fan forum. Sutton (A) - Joe Kizzi leans in with his elbow and gets away with it Grimsby (H) - Aaron Nemane getting booked for taking too long with a throw, despite us being 1-0 down Salford (A) - Aden Baldwin being kicked to bits in the first-half and Salford were just allowed to get away with it. The referee making it all about him in the last 15 minutes, handing out 8 yellow cards, 2 of them second yellows, resulting in Kevin Berkoe (Salford) and Aaron Nemane (Notts) being sent off Wrexham (H) - Paul Mullin does some Lucha Libre spin kick on Jodi Jones and doesn't get sent off for kicking out, with it being right infront of the linesmen. Jodi somehow gets booked despite being the one that's kicked Crewe (A) - Take your pick. Shilow Tracey diving in the penalty area within the first 5 minutes, Aaron Rowe, Joe White and Conor Thomas also taking tumbles to the floor after barely being nudged. The linesmen being completely behind play all game, culminating in Courtney Baker-Richardson and Ryan Cooney both being offside for an attack late on in which the lino doesn't start running from the half way line, until after the ball had reached Cooney. Bradford (H) - Aden Baldwin taking it past 2 players and then being upended, for which the Bradford player doesn't even receive a booking. Bradford committed 12 fouls in the game and didn't get a single yellow card, whilst we received 3. Wimbledon (A) - Isaac Ogundere manhandling Jodi Jones all the way through the second-half and not receiving a booking Harrogate (A) - Brindley and Nemane taken out after the ball had gone but both times, the referee failed to caution the Harrogate players. Baldwin gets shoved in the back with nothing given, allowing Chicksen to play Harrogate in for their third. This might seem like sour grapes but Luke Williams has mentioned it before. The officiating is inconsistent and in my opinion, the lack of common sense used is unacceptable. Any others you can remember?5 points

Facing Stockport will undoubtedly be a challenge, but I firmly believe that Notts has the potential to make a significant impact. Given our recent form, it’s crucial that we react positively and swiftly. We need to harness our strengths, learn from our past games, and put forth a robust performance. A draw, in this context, would be a commendable outcome. It would not only halt our recent slump but also boost the team’s morale. Remember, every game is a new opportunity, and with the right mindset, we can turn things around. Let’s keep our spirits high and hope for the best.5 points

It’s a challenging forecast to make, given Stockport County’s impressive form and our recent setbacks in the past dozen games or so. Writing ourselves off entirely stems more from the frustration and disappointment of defeat. If we can set aside certain key issues, Notts has the potential to compete with any team in this league, and the game’s outcome will ultimately depend on who performs better. If we seize the opportunities, Notts could secure a significant and commendable victory. A loss, however, would perpetuate this downward trend that seems nearly insurmountable, particularly in away games. Luke Williams and the team certainly have the ability to hold their own against any opponent.5 points

Be prepared to brace yourself if things take a turn for the worse. Social media might become a negative space and I believe we should avoid that at all costs. Here’s hoping for a draw, but a win would be great. Sometimes you have to be bold and hope it works out, even though I’m not expecting much.5 points
-
Arthur Read would be a great addition, but I don’t think Wrexham would let Luke Young leave. Conor McGrandles could bring experience and distribute the ball well for us. I’d be happy with Read and McGrandles. Defensively, Adam Senior would be a good choice.5 points
-
I fully trust that King Williams can guide us through this rough patch and deliver a strong performance against Stockport County. That’s what we need. If Stockport enters the game thinking it’ll be easy, it could work in our favour, as I can see some teams underestimating us as we have done with others. Let’s hope for a win before Christmas!5 points
-
great post @ARLukomski! the stats the efl mention probably suite the message they want people to believe because unless the game was captured fully, then who is to say they are correct or not? a foul could have been committed before one is given, so many times we see officials miss incidents. i dont think it sounds like sour grapes because i suspect it happens to every club except for wrexham. salford were dirty, i thought the officials in that game missed no end of incidents in their attempt to keep the game playing. quickly is was stopped when on the other foot but clubs like them get it due to their owners.5 points

I’m scared of losing, and so would most people given how well Stockport County are performing. It would be fantastic to achieve something, and I agree it could boost our confidence. I don’t think we need to fret if we lose, but hopefully, we’ll see signs of progress and determination.5 points

January can't come soon enough for us with the gaping hole in our midfield and defence, in need of reinforcements and squad depth looking a bit empty Having lost Cedwyn Scott and Geraldo Bajrami, plus our most influential player Matty Palmer to injury, it's clear the squad is in need of signings. We were right to stick by the players that got us promoted, but we should have added more to the squad in the summer. Now the mantra is progression over loyalty Since the start of this month I've been putting together a list of possible choices for the January transfer window. Split them up into tier 1 and tier 2 targets. Tier 1 is realistic and accounting for budget (depending on how ambitious we are being). Tier 2 is less likely options/players. Players I will take but would prefer if we signed the tier 1 players Tier 1 Centre-Backs Tier 2 Centre-Backs Tier 1 Central Midfielders Tier 2 Central Midfielders4 points

I’m pleased to hear this, for my age I consider myself reasonably fit but I do struggle sometimes when I get a ticket near the back of the stand. I remember when I could bound up those steps no problem. Well done Notts.4 points

If Notts can maintain their formation and effectively pass the ball, I believe we have a good chance of proving the doubters wrong. The problem is that the recent games have hit us hard, and our reaction hasn’t been strong enough. I suspect Stockport fans are feeling as confident as we did during our winning streak, so I hope we can replicate our performance against Walsall, doing just enough to secure the points. Dan Crowley, David McGoldrick, and Jodi Jones will all be key players. However, Luke Williams is correct in saying that we shouldn’t solely focus on defence, as that would invite defeat. We need to adopt an offensive strategy and work together as a team.4 points

The Macari Foundation is a charity set up by ex-footballer Lou Macari, and they’re doing some fantastic work for the homeless in North Staffordshire. They’ve got this place called the Macari Centre in Stoke-on-Trent, which is open every day of the year. It’s not just a shelter, but a place that provides support and helps people get back on their feet. They even refer to the people they help as ‘guests’, which I think says a lot about their approach. This is such a heart-warming thing to learn about.4 points

With the larger home crowds, it only takes one person to slip in the aisles, a domino effect could have serious consequences. This is good decision making by Notts in respect of risk assessment. It would also help towards the Ground Safety Certificate in dealing with larger crowds4 points

A big salute to all the fans who have attended every away game this season. They truly deserve some joy. We shouldn’t entirely dismiss our chances. All we need is to score a goal and prevent them from doing the same. It might seem unlikely, but we have players who can find the back of the net. If we can bring a positive approach to the game and defend well, anything is possible.4 points
-
Well for obvious reasons this will be a very difficult game, I am hoping for a good performance even if we lose, a draw would be a bonus and a win….. well…. I might just run round the room naked with my underpants on my head, I’d draw the curtains first though. I hope you manage to get that picture out of your head.4 points

I think it’s a strange appointment and the sacking seems to be just a move to bring in someone for the sake of it. Steve Cooper has done well with Forest. They can spend as much money as they want on the players they sign, but they are only at a certain level compared to other established Premier League teams. Cooper has done well so far. I don’t see how Nuno Santo is a step up. He’s been lucky in English management to have moved from Wolves to Tottenham because he hasn’t looked anything special and just a very generic manager.4 points
-
I think all supporters will gain, but it’s nice to see more improvements to the ground like this. Some stewards might grumble that some people are taking too long to move. Just be patient and wait.4 points
-
its going to be interesting to see how we do against a team in far better form. a good result could give us no end of confidence but on the other hand, a heavy defeat could cause further complications. i dont expect to win, so i think i would take a draw. hopefully the players are feeling more ambitious as our away games seems unlikely to see where the next win will come.4 points

This is something that’s been necessary for years, especially when you’re at the top of the stands. Sometimes you need something to grip, particularly when it’s cold or slippery. It’s not just the Pavis stand, the KOP is also steep and challenging for some.4 points

On the night before Christmas This poem was written by Caroline Wells in 1900 but it could just as easily fit today. .............. On the night before Christmas there’s something amiss With your placid, habitual slumber; You suddenly find that your overworked mind Is harassed by cares without number. You are stirred by the thought that the gifts you have bought Are less than your friends have expected; And your heart is beset by a nervous regret That the things were not better selected. You cannot lie quiet, your brain’s in a riot, And fears for the dinner oppress you; The goose may be tough or the cook in a huff, Or the children’s behavior distress you. You can’t get your breath, you’re worried to death Lest the weather may turn out unpleasant Your eyes ache and burn as you toss and you turn And think over every one’s present. That Dresden affair, expensive and rare, Is really quite wasted on Dora; And you’re tempted to wish you had given the dish To Alice or Ethel or Flora. Dick never will look in that beautiful book, So you think you’re transfer it to Maisie; Then you’ll have to give Dick that ebony stick – But by this time you’re just about crazy. As you tumble and roll, a feat thrills your soul Lest some one left out should feel slighted. Though you doubt if you’re able to seat round the table The guest you’ve already invited. The cream may fall short – there’s only a quart — And some one may keep dinner waiting; Then the soup will get cold, and Edward will scold, And give the late guests a berating. You flounder and sigh – you’re ready to cry – Coy sleep won’t allow you to win her; Oh, the night before Christmas holds nothing of bliss, If you’d asked your relations to dinner.3 points

It’s remarkable how a poem written by Caroline Wells over a century ago can still resonate with us today. The anxieties and stress associated with preparing for Christmas, from buying gifts to worrying about the dinner, are feelings many of us can relate to. It’s a clear indication of the timeless nature of human emotions and experiences.3 points

Mick Walker went right down in my estimations after this game as I felt he showed no class whatsoever in singling out Dijkstra for his mistake. I laid just as much blame on Cherry as he came rushing out when there was no need to as Dijkstra had it covered. Overall, it was a more than fair result on the night as Derby had by far the best chances, but Gary Mac could have put the game out of reach but shot too near their keeper when normally he would have buried it. That Derby side was an expensive unit as well with Tommy J, Shorty, Paul Kitson, Paul Simpson and Gabbiadini in it (I think Gabbiadini was on the bench).3 points

This will be quite exciting coming into the New Year, I really encourage those who are active to be a part of this as the aim will be to really grow ourselves as a community. I have to be honest, I don't recall who has joined up previously or not - it's an area that I really need to invest more time in. The previous list grew with only emails, very few names and that makes it difficult to track who is who. This will be amended once the first email goes out, but it will be something I encourage everyone who enjoys PON to get behind.3 points
