  1. Thanks for the new blog @TheSkipper it’s a great insight into the build up for the new season the more I read the more excited I start to feel.

  2. With this level of strategic additions, it's clear that Notts County are really investing in their success this season. The balance between experience and fresh talent is key, and it seems like the team has managed to strike that balance well. Particularly noteworthy is Dan Crowley's addition as an attacking midfielder. Given his experience with the Arsenal academy, he would likely be a star performer. If the team takes advantage of his skills, I think they could really pose a serious challenge for the League Two title. The key word in my thoughts is "could", we need the results to go our way and remain optimistic as a fan base.

  3. Very fair and to the point, @TheSkipper. This is a very good blog. I believe it is widely accepted that we are in need of another centre back, someone who possesses similar qualities to Aden Baldwin but without the injury history. Baldwin is a key player from last season that helped to improve the defence, but it is unfortunate that he is so injury prone. All the signings are smart additions, capturing Jodi Jones' signature will be a key decision because he looks quality whenever he's on the ball. Randall also had a great collaboration with Sam Austin, and together they were a deadly force that could easily dismantle unprepared defences. I think our quality in the attacking positions is excellent, defensively we are fine, but one addition would cement a solid squad.

  4. It's inspiring to see the team showing signs of improvement. Jodi Jones has really been a game-changer for us! Good blog!

  5. in the clip of the fans, that is @Chris at the bottom right side. i like reading your thoughts on what fans and is posted on social media, i agree with what you say. its good to see more fans warming to stuart maynard. at times it has seemed personal, ever since the bbc did the piece about him giving up his bt technician job. some of those comments seemed unfair and it did take me away last season from wanting to discuss notts. i think the signs are there, we just need to have faith.

  6. The comparison between the current state of affairs and the Fullarton era really puts things into perspective. It's a reminder of how far we've come and the obstacles we’ve overcome. Yes, the situation isn’t ideal, but turning our dissatisfaction into boos only adds to the pressure on our players. They need us now more than ever. Let’s channel our energies into positive support and help reignite the spirit of Meadow Lane. We’ve weathered storms before; we can do it again together.

  7. i think much of the reactions against sutton were caused by frustration, the way the sutton players behaved and got on to our fans would only in turn put the pressure back on our players. i do wonder why some fans consider themselves supporters but thankfully thats few and far between, twitter can be an ugly place for any football fans but i do agree that we are in this together. i would have the club to be in the jamie fullarton times again. despite the poor transfer window, its our first back in the efl and i am very thankful for the investment of our owners.

  8. I’m hopeful that this is just a temporary phase. Most supporters are fantastic, and while I don’t blame them for booing, I personally wouldn’t do it. I agree that we’re going through a tough time, but the situation with Jamie Fullarton was completely different. As a younger fan, it makes me appreciate where we are now and what our current owners are trying to achieve. We’ve had some bad luck this season, especially with the loss of Luke Williams, but I’m committed to giving my full support.

  9. Reading this blog, it's clear that there is a wave of optimism washing over Notts County ahead of this season. The new signings offer reason for optimism, from the quality of skills and positions they cover, to the blend of experience and freshness they bring. Every player will bring his unique attributes in a way that will empower Notts. This is an enjoyable read.

  10. I think it's essential for fans to get behind Stuart Maynard, especially considering the progress we've seen so far. Changing managers often disrupts the team's chemistry, and we're beginning to see better football under his guidance. The defending against Tranmere Rovers was particularly impressive, and Maynard's tactics seem to be more effective each game. It's not just about immediate results but building a sustainable future for Notts. If fans rally behind him, it could create a more positive atmosphere that benefits everyone involved.

  11. I don’t boo at matches I just don’t clap or show any appreciation if I’m not satisfied with the performance. Having said that I can understand some fans wanting to voice their frustration with boos BUT some fans go too far and start verbally abusing players and the manager which turns the atmosphere very unpleasant and not something I’m comfortable with, I don’t want to sit at a match with my grandson and listen to the bloke behind me shouting obscenities at the manager, it puts me off going to matches to be honest. I hope it is only a temporary thing and we get back to a pleasant atmosphere enjoyable for all.

  12. I grasp the disapproval following the Sutton game, but I can't comprehend why certain fans haven't given Stuart Maynard a fair opportunity. Instantly desiring a manager to be dismissed isn't a positive reflection for a supposed supporter. Unfortunately, some individuals, particularly in this era, simply relish a good complaint. I acknowledge the reaction after Sutton; I wouldn't have jeered, but losing to the team firmly at the bottom of the table and conceding 9 goals against them naturally stirs heightened emotions. If this persists in substantial proportions, that's a distinct concern. It would be regrettable to see the connection established with promotion severed so early.

  13. A poignant reflection on our current times at Meadow Lane. This article resonates with the sentiment that we, as supporters, have a significant role in shaping the club's atmosphere. It's a reminder of our shared love for the game and the club. While it's easy to fall into a trap of negativity, especially after disappointing performances, it's crucial to remember the bigger picture. Our support can make all the difference in turning the tide. Let’s be the positive change we want to see in our club, cultivating an environment where players and fans alike can thrive.

  14. i hope we do sign a couple more, i think two should do it but if we are talking about having depth i am still unsure who will be keeping adam chicksen on his toes. he performs way better when he knows someone else can take his place. a centre back would be a welcomed addition, i agree with everything you wrote @TheSkipper. i think if notts can win the likes of wrexham, tranmere etc we could be in a title race. i will take it as it comes but i feel very optimistic.

  15. Great blog! I completely agree about holding an enthusiastic and positive outlook for the Notts County team this season. From the looks of the preseason training and the new additions made to the team, it seems they are determined to leave no stone unturned in their quest for success. The new players, as outlined in your post, bring a blend of experience and youth that I believe will form a formidable force against any adversary. The roles filled by the new players seem strategically planned. Jones and Randall, with these two wingers taking charge of either side, the attack line should pose a serious threat to opponents. McGoldrick’s championship experience should provide crucial guidance to the team, and Crowley, with his experience could impress us with his play-making skills. Stone, as a goalkeeper, could provide the defence strength required. Assuming that they will positively impact the team on a consistent basis, the upcoming season could potentially be highly successful for Notts. I would go so far as to say that a back-to-back promotion should not be deemed improbable for a team as promising as this, especially given the optimistic sentiment expressed by the fans and the solid start to the preseason.

  16. Nice blog @Joshua Well put together. Wow, we do have talented writers on PON. I'm just pleased for Stuart. It was rough for him taking over from a legend like Williams. However Stuart has come through all that, and the signs are very good with the team he's building. There will always be people who will be negative, but I believe there are big positive things going to happen in the next few months with Stuart's team.

  17. We have a lot to be optimistic about. The first game against Sutton will hopefully show us a bit more. The depth is a good thing, and Luke Williams has a clear plan for how he wants his team to play. I think he knows what his starting 11 would be, even if he’s not publicly saying so. I also believe that we may try to start the season without signing any more players.

  18. What a lovely blog and a great insight into the birth of PoN, I’m pleased that @super_ram didn’t have enough tickets to take Chris to Derby otherwise we wouldn’t have this wonderful community. Thanks for the blog and for persuading Chris to be the interviewed and of course thanks to @Chris keep up the good work.

  19. brilliant blog @allardyces tash. i dont think most of the notts drama is caused from performances or on the pitch, more from fans and rumours which is why i dont really like seeing them being spread without valid cause. your blog is very funny. 22. What a fantastic blog! I love the optimism and enthusiasm that comes through. Notts County's preseason preparations sound impressive and it's good to see how well the new faces have integrated with the team. The diversity of skills and previous league experience brought in by players like Jones and McGoldrick can only boost the squad's performance. A seven-way tilt at the title isn't just possible, it seems plausible. Let's get ready for a thrilling season and hopefully, back-to-back promotions.

  26. Completely agree about the squad needing to knuckle down for the rest of the season. Losing Crowley and dealing with injuries to key players like Ness and Robertson is frustrating, but this team has shown it can rise to the challenge. I’m thrilled Abbott is staying; his energy and work rate in midfield have been crucial. The January signings look promising, particularly Whitaker, who could bring fresh ideas in the middle. A striker would complete the puzzle, though, as we’ve been a bit short on goals at times. Maynard’s taken a lot of stick, but the Accrington win proves he’s still got the dressing room on side. Promotion is within reach if we stay focused and avoid slipping up.

  27. Nice one @allardyces tash I like this blog. My suggestion is don’t read social media, the majority of people on there who voice these ridiculous opinions on the club, manager and players are just Negative Nellies with nothing better to do that spout their negativity to get a reaction. Personally I’d rather read comments on here where the fans are far more level headed and when necessary will give constructive criticism without the knee jerk reactions of social media. Without a doubt the injuries to the squad have hampered our progress but I still hope we can get promotion but if we don’t it won’t be the end of the world, I’ll still support them as I have through much worse times than these in my 60 odd years of being a fan.

  28. i think some fans are just worried we wont get promoted and might return to those years were we was average, but it is frustrating to see people question the desire and hunger of our owners. they deserve better than that, the reedtz are greatly responsible for putting us on the right path. we are signing far better players than we would have under previous regimes. this is a good blog, i found it very funny and i hope people dont take the hump. thanks for writing it @allardyces tash.

  29. I was very disappointed to witness a section of the Notts Supporters booing the team and the modern day experience of seeing the vitriol aimed at the Head Coach and team on social media after the match. Since we were relegated to the National League, supporters, and significantly, the new supporters have seen nothing but success and good performances from the team. Even when we lost in the National League playoffs, it was still regarded by many as a successful season. When we got promoted there was a sense that the success would continue this season and now that it looks like this may not happen, some supporters have become very disappointed. I don't share their disapointment.I believe the team has done ok and to think we are still in the mix for a playoff place with 12 games to go should encourage Notts fans to get behind the team, and I hope that the vast majority will.

  35. These are worrying times, the next week or so will see a major decision being made by the Notts board about who the next manager will be, it will decide the future of our great club, everyone should be worried, there are a lot of long standing fans who are now saying they are close to throwing in the towel. For all our sakes and for the sake of this great club we love Mr. Trew and the board MUST make the right decision. Irrespective I will still support the club I love and have supported for the last 50 odd years but then again I am a glutton for punishment and I have been here and worse before, there is nothing new under the sun.

  36. Pretty much what you've written sums me up too, although I'm only 26. I miss 10 years off from the things you've seen but for me it's about family. It's also about those you know at the Lane and some I've met treat you as family, which is pretty special! Being a Notts supporter is just like any other club, yet we hold onto some good tradition and make sure we keep the feeling about support, family and encourage future generations to be fans also. Some of my friends who support the red team, don't care who there children support. Not bothered about introducing them but for me it's about family at Notts.

  37. I've been watching Notts for over 50 years and like you have seen ups and downs in that time, for me being a Notts supporter is a way of life, a habit I suppose, it's just something that seems to have always been there since I was very young, I can't see me ever not being a Notts supporter. When I am not at the match I am desperately trying to find the latest score on my phone or whatever means I can, I hate the summer when we aren't playing and there isn't much going on at the club.

  40. I found it an entertaining read, very enjoyable. Isn't it always the same with Notts? When times get tough, the negative comments fly and the players get unfairly criticised, as if they don't care or put the effort in. As for Stuart Maynard, some fans who dislike him will never accept him as our head coach and just wait for those moments to claim he's not good enough. I try to focus on the positives, but unfortunately, a small vocal minority of our fans don't.

  41. Nice article. @allardyces tash. The Club has made great progress since last season. Could you imagine how the team would have finished if six first team players in midfield and upfront would have become injured for an extended period? It would have been a bit of a disaster to put it mildly. This season the squad is much stronger, and the players that have come in and replaced the injured have done a sterling job to keep Notts in the top six, & just a few points off second place. The reason for that is abundantly clear to me. Notts have a very good Head Coach & his staff have done wonders with the team, so that the remaining players available have been moulded into an effective unit to keep Notts in touch with the top while the injured players recover. There will always be a small number of noisy fans that will never be satisfied no matter how well the team are doing. Some would moan if Notts were ten points clear at the top. The sensible fan will know different. I'm confident that once the seven injured players return, we will see the Notts we saw at the beginning of the season, with a big difference. Those fringe players have tasted first team action and won't want to relinquish their place lightly. The players returning will know that there is going to be plenty of competition for places. That fact on its own will benefit Notts in the new year.

  42. After the Wembley victory over Chesterfield and the title Battle with Wrexham the Magpies picked up a few Fair Weather Fans and I would suggest most of the Negative response comes from them, for it would seem long term Magpie fans are willing to give the new Gaffer time and hope he can turn things around. The thing is after the 2023/2024 season Magpie Fans are used to Notts winning games and currently they aren't getting the victories Fans want, ( sorry for stating the obvious). We long term Fans have seen this all before the booing the call for the Manager/Head Coach to be sacked, and the Negative response to certain players. We can't stop the booing the cat calling the toxic posts on social media platforms, but I think a vast majority of the Notts Fan Base is positive the only thing is the nay sayer's seem to be the more vocal. And perhaps they believed all the Hype which the Media heaped on Notts at the start of the season, how Notts and Wrexham were favourites to get promotion. Myself and a large majority of Magpie fans would class a top half finish and maybe a run at the Playoffs would be the sign of a Good season.

  45. The club needs to do something to encourage younger fans, as a quick scan of the crowd photos will show that its the same OLD faces that turn up every week, and although the photographer concentrates on them , there are few younger fans in the crowd. If we don't get them whilst they are young and impressionable, they will be lost to the never never land that is at the top of premier league. Never able to get or afford a ticket Never ware the shirt when they are loosing.

  46. I agree with all your calls, they're spot on mate. This is an excellent blog, really insightful and it allows us to see just how far we have came, comparing to what we miss. If we can stay above Bradford then we would have done well and mostly Liddle might have some sort of regrets, especially if we do eventually go up and he doesn't. Great piece bud!

  47. It was nice to see you enjoy the game despite the result, you're the type of fan to get behind the team even if you didn't really sing much. I know you was somewhat nervous but how cool was it to play the drum? even I didn't manage that, so you're very lucky. Really proud of you for continuing this and for your keen interest in writing. Keep it up son

  48. For some strange reason, I took an interest in Notts County's results for a few years, before I went to my first game in 2005. I don't know what it was - I was only 7/8 at the time but for some reason I was drawn to the club. Maybe I liked the "underdog" tag; being different from everyone else who supported Forest or big clubs like Liverpool or Man Utd. Maybe I just liked their kit, I don't know! It's something that gets in your blood. Like Tony says above, when I'm not at a game - which living in Weymouth is every week really, I'm constantly checking the score. My mates will tell you - I've gone mad for no apparent season on the Weymouth terraces before having seen we've scored. There's just something about Notts. The one thing I love more than anything else about our supporters is our unique sense of humour. It's as if we're so used to the lows that we will ALWAYS find something to smile and have a laugh about. I've been to so many games where we've lost, but had a great time nonetheless. It's also a real family, community club isn't it. To me, football in general is about the camaraderie between you, your family, friends and the rest of the fans. One of the perks of supporting a small club like ours is that you recognise a lot of faces and make a lot of friends. I love it. It just kills me not being able to go regularly. Who knows, maybe I'll move back to Nottingham one day, I don't know at the minute. But what I do know is that it hurts me inside not being able to go to many games - 4 a season if I'm lucky. We support our team through thick and thin, come rain or shine. CTID! Some great posts here by the way, really sums up what football, and a club means to so many people
