  1. The loss of Alex Bass has created a new, more urgent focus for the club because Bass gave us confidence in his all-round abilities as a keeper. I haven't felt as calm or as assured that our keeper could make those defining saves to keep out the opposition as I have with him. The thing about strikers is I believe we need more than two; ideally, we would have four, ensuring they can get game time in different positions. Notts players have a good style, which has a high creation chance, and although last season we did struggle to score at times. I do feel confident in our ability to feed a striker and allow them to grow with confidence; for example, Kyle Wootton learned a lot from coming to us. This experience has given him a platform to go on. Whereas we once struggled with strikers, it now seems like we could put any hard-working striker with a good finishing ability in this position, and he would get goals. Macaulay Langstaff, Alassanna Jatta and David McGoldrick thrive within this type of setup, and their quality always stood out when in form. Sign a solid keeper that will impress and make us forget about the disappointment of Alex Bass moving on; it would allow us to remember his time as an excellent signing. Rather than wishing we had never sold him. Good keepers are out there, but again, just like with management, I think experience is key. Bass's time at AFC Wimbledon showed his quality, and there will be others waiting for that opportunity to be a team's regular starting goalkeeper. An attacking midfielder of proven class, hard-working, and with the potential to score, would be nice. Signings could easily boost morale in the fan base, as could a good start to the season. Excellent blog!
  2. Very well put together article & a good read too @allardyces tash . I think the most important thing at the moment is to bring in a quality goalkeeper that can command his area, direct is defensive colleagues, & can deal with crosses from open play & dead ball situations. I believe Notts still have a quality squad, but it needs a goalie as I've described, an attacking midfielder who is a good playmaker & another proven goalscorer. Without the additions, Notts would struggle to make at least the playoffs, but I still believe they would be good enough to be mid table without a playmaker or goalscorer, but they certainly need a competent goalie. I think the owners will make those additions in those areas I've described, I would be surprised if they didn't. Even with those additions, a playoff place is a more realistic expectation. I hope the fans get behind the owners, their management team, as well as the players. The Reedtz brothers have done so much for this club they deserve our support & trust.
  3. A commanding goalkeeper is a must, also a defensive midfielder who can bring the ball forward along with a creative midfielder (Crowley was sorely missed). Although we have three centre forwards/strikers, aree they good enough to take the chances we create. Michael Cheek would do for me. Hoping to see some movement soon COYP
  4. Thanks for the new blog @TheSkipper it’s a great insight into the build up for the new season the more I read the more excited I start to feel.
  5. i love your blog series @allardyces tash, the way you joke about things is enduring and make a difference from reading someone just complaining for the sake of it. its also enjoyable the thought you put into the accompanying poll. with regards to what you write, i largely agree with you and want to see how things turn out. as for the poll, i think we need depth for the injuries, but obviously a keeper is the highest priority now. would prefer a long term replacement for alex bass, but i am not against a loan if that move is not open provided the incoming keeper is good.
  6. With this level of strategic additions, it's clear that Notts County are really investing in their success this season. The balance between experience and fresh talent is key, and it seems like the team has managed to strike that balance well. Particularly noteworthy is Dan Crowley's addition as an attacking midfielder. Given his experience with the Arsenal academy, he would likely be a star performer. If the team takes advantage of his skills, I think they could really pose a serious challenge for the League Two title. The key word in my thoughts is "could", we need the results to go our way and remain optimistic as a fan base.
  7. Very fair and to the point, @TheSkipper. This is a very good blog. I believe it is widely accepted that we are in need of another centre back, someone who possesses similar qualities to Aden Baldwin but without the injury history. Baldwin is a key player from last season that helped to improve the defence, but it is unfortunate that he is so injury prone. All the signings are smart additions, capturing Jodi Jones' signature will be a key decision because he looks quality whenever he's on the ball. Randall also had a great collaboration with Sam Austin, and together they were a deadly force that could easily dismantle unprepared defences. I think our quality in the attacking positions is excellent, defensively we are fine, but one addition would cement a solid squad.
  8. I'm cautiously optimistic. The signings feel different this year, especially with Kouhyar and Iorpenda adding that spark in midfield. We’ve clearly gone for versatility and attacking intent, which is refreshing after last season’s stagnation. That said, I’m still worried about our defence, particularly if Griffiths is our only real option in goal as of now. Bass leaving does leave a massive hole in our defence, and it’s not just about shot-stopping, it’s leadership and communication too. We’ll need a strong start to build confidence, or the pressure on Paterson will mount quickly. Fingers crossed it clicks.
  9. Great blog, it really gives us something to think about. As for the poll, I reckon bringing in a forward and a solid new keeper to take over from David McGoldrick and Alex Bass would help win back the fans’ trust.
  10. It's inspiring to see the team showing signs of improvement. Jodi Jones has really been a game-changer for us! Good blog!
  11. in the clip of the fans, that is @Chris at the bottom right side. i like reading your thoughts on what fans and is posted on social media, i agree with what you say. its good to see more fans warming to stuart maynard. at times it has seemed personal, ever since the bbc did the piece about him giving up his bt technician job. some of those comments seemed unfair and it did take me away last season from wanting to discuss notts. i think the signs are there, we just need to have faith.
  12. The comparison between the current state of affairs and the Fullarton era really puts things into perspective. It's a reminder of how far we've come and the obstacles we’ve overcome. Yes, the situation isn’t ideal, but turning our dissatisfaction into boos only adds to the pressure on our players. They need us now more than ever. Let’s channel our energies into positive support and help reignite the spirit of Meadow Lane. We’ve weathered storms before; we can do it again together.
  13. i think much of the reactions against sutton were caused by frustration, the way the sutton players behaved and got on to our fans would only in turn put the pressure back on our players. i do wonder why some fans consider themselves supporters but thankfully thats few and far between, twitter can be an ugly place for any football fans but i do agree that we are in this together. i would have the club to be in the jamie fullarton times again. despite the poor transfer window, its our first back in the efl and i am very thankful for the investment of our owners.
  14. A great breakdown of what’s been a busy and slightly chaotic few months! Norburn could be a cracking addition to our midfield, especially if Paterson gives him freedom to play forward. But the forward line worries me. Jatta and McGoldrick is a nice combo on paper, but injuries or fatigue could really hurt us. With McGoldrick gone, we desperately need someone who can score 15+ goals. I’d love to see a young, hungry striker brought in on loan or even a permanent deal. Defence also needs a bit of steel. We're getting there, but it's not quite ready yet.
  15. We’ve got to be patient, there’s no point in rushing to bring in new players. The recruitment team needs time to make sure each signing truly adds something to the squad. Like everyone else, I was disappointed to see Alex Bass go to Peterborough. But if the money helps us bring in real quality, it could be what takes us that extra step forward. @TheSkipper, 'cash is king, and quality must be queen.' πŸ˜‚πŸ‘πŸ» I really enjoy the way allardyces tash writes. His comments are good, but his blogs are full of wit and humour, a great way to lift the mood. They help soften the blow and offer a fresh view on things. Top work, AT.
  16. I can see you are more a "half-eaten pie" type of fan, rather than a "half-empty, half-full glass" type of person. 🀣 πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ‘πŸ» I think we need to keep note of some of these lines you use, as I still can't get over your reference to MK Dons having 'the rich history of a microwaved lasagna'. It's pure brilliance and such a joy to read.
  17. Good read! Still have to see how Paterson does yet, we need to see how he handles a run of poor results.
  18. I’m hopeful that this is just a temporary phase. Most supporters are fantastic, and while I don’t blame them for booing, I personally wouldn’t do it. I agree that we’re going through a tough time, but the situation with Jamie Fullarton was completely different. As a younger fan, it makes me appreciate where we are now and what our current owners are trying to achieve. We’ve had some bad luck this season, especially with the loss of Luke Williams, but I’m committed to giving my full support.
  19. Reading this blog, it's clear that there is a wave of optimism washing over Notts County ahead of this season. The new signings offer reason for optimism, from the quality of skills and positions they cover, to the blend of experience and freshness they bring. Every player will bring his unique attributes in a way that will empower Notts. This is an enjoyable read.
  20. I think it's essential for fans to get behind Stuart Maynard, especially considering the progress we've seen so far. Changing managers often disrupts the team's chemistry, and we're beginning to see better football under his guidance. The defending against Tranmere Rovers was particularly impressive, and Maynard's tactics seem to be more effective each game. It's not just about immediate results but building a sustainable future for Notts. If fans rally behind him, it could create a more positive atmosphere that benefits everyone involved.
  21. I don’t boo at matches I just don’t clap or show any appreciation if I’m not satisfied with the performance. Having said that I can understand some fans wanting to voice their frustration with boos BUT some fans go too far and start verbally abusing players and the manager which turns the atmosphere very unpleasant and not something I’m comfortable with, I don’t want to sit at a match with my grandson and listen to the bloke behind me shouting obscenities at the manager, it puts me off going to matches to be honest. I hope it is only a temporary thing and we get back to a pleasant atmosphere enjoyable for all.
  22. I grasp the disapproval following the Sutton game, but I can't comprehend why certain fans haven't given Stuart Maynard a fair opportunity. Instantly desiring a manager to be dismissed isn't a positive reflection for a supposed supporter. Unfortunately, some individuals, particularly in this era, simply relish a good complaint. I acknowledge the reaction after Sutton; I wouldn't have jeered, but losing to the team firmly at the bottom of the table and conceding 9 goals against them naturally stirs heightened emotions. If this persists in substantial proportions, that's a distinct concern. It would be regrettable to see the connection established with promotion severed so early.
  23. A poignant reflection on our current times at Meadow Lane. This article resonates with the sentiment that we, as supporters, have a significant role in shaping the club's atmosphere. It's a reminder of our shared love for the game and the club. While it's easy to fall into a trap of negativity, especially after disappointing performances, it's crucial to remember the bigger picture. Our support can make all the difference in turning the tide. Let’s be the positive change we want to see in our club, cultivating an environment where players and fans alike can thrive.
  24. i hope we do sign a couple more, i think two should do it but if we are talking about having depth i am still unsure who will be keeping adam chicksen on his toes. he performs way better when he knows someone else can take his place. a centre back would be a welcomed addition, i agree with everything you wrote @TheSkipper. i think if notts can win the likes of wrexham, tranmere etc we could be in a title race. i will take it as it comes but i feel very optimistic.
  25. Great blog! I completely agree about holding an enthusiastic and positive outlook for the Notts County team this season. From the looks of the preseason training and the new additions made to the team, it seems they are determined to leave no stone unturned in their quest for success. The new players, as outlined in your post, bring a blend of experience and youth that I believe will form a formidable force against any adversary. The roles filled by the new players seem strategically planned. Jones and Randall, with these two wingers taking charge of either side, the attack line should pose a serious threat to opponents. McGoldrick’s championship experience should provide crucial guidance to the team, and Crowley, with his experience could impress us with his play-making skills. Stone, as a goalkeeper, could provide the defence strength required. Assuming that they will positively impact the team on a consistent basis, the upcoming season could potentially be highly successful for Notts. I would go so far as to say that a back-to-back promotion should not be deemed improbable for a team as promising as this, especially given the optimistic sentiment expressed by the fans and the solid start to the preseason.
  26. Nice blog @Joshua Well put together. Wow, we do have talented writers on PON. I'm just pleased for Stuart. It was rough for him taking over from a legend like Williams. However Stuart has come through all that, and the signs are very good with the team he's building. There will always be people who will be negative, but I believe there are big positive things going to happen in the next few months with Stuart's team.
  27. We have a lot to be optimistic about. The first game against Sutton will hopefully show us a bit more. The depth is a good thing, and Luke Williams has a clear plan for how he wants his team to play. I think he knows what his starting 11 would be, even if he’s not publicly saying so. I also believe that we may try to start the season without signing any more players.
  28. What a lovely blog and a great insight into the birth of PoN, I’m pleased that @super_ram didn’t have enough tickets to take Chris to Derby otherwise we wouldn’t have this wonderful community. Thanks for the blog and for persuading Chris to be the interviewed and of course thanks to @Chris keep up the good work.
  29. It’s been a strange summer, hasn’t it? On one hand, we’ve brought in a mix of hungry young players and seasoned heads, and you can tell the club is trying to reshape the squad to fit Paterson’s style. Players like Norburn should bring grit and experience, while someone like Matthew Dennis might just be a hidden gem if he settles quickly. The midfield’s definitely looking more balanced already. But I can’t help feeling uneasy about the keeper situation. Griffiths is unproven at this level, and while I wish him the best, it’s unfair to expect him to replace Bass seamlessly. If we don’t sort that position soon, it could undo the rest of the good work. We’re a couple of signings away from looking genuinely ready to compete at the top. The club have said they’re looking to bring in a replacement for Alex Bass. But things can change quickly, and if a good player becomes available, other clubs might think we’ve got money to spend and raise their asking price. I’m not sure which goalkeepers are available on a free at the moment. Still, buying one outright often gives the best results when it comes to getting real quality between the sticks.
  30. Another great read @allardyces tash i love your style of writing it’s very humorous, keep it up. πŸ‘
  31. brilliant blog @allardyces tash. πŸ‘πŸ» i dont think most of the notts drama is caused from performances or on the pitch, more from fans and rumours which is why i dont really like seeing them being spread without valid cause. your blog is very funny. "If he genuinely believes MK Dons, a club with all the rich history of a microwaved lasagna". πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ€£
  32. The defence is looking solid this season. Well done to the recruitment for the smart summer signings.
  33. Booing achieves nothing but division. Time to lift the lads, not break them down. We're stronger together!
  34. What a fantastic blog! I love the optimism and enthusiasm that comes through. Notts County's preseason preparations sound impressive and it's good to see how well the new faces have integrated with the team. The diversity of skills and previous league experience brought in by players like Jones and McGoldrick can only boost the squad's performance. A seven-way tilt at the title isn't just possible, it seems plausible. Let's get ready for a thrilling season and hopefully, back-to-back promotions.
  35. Exciting times ahead for Notts! The new signings truly promise a thrilling season. Especially looking forward to seeing McGoldrick's performance. You Pies!
  36. Great interview for your first blog! The Pride of Nottingham is an excellent site. Those abusive comments early on were probably just trolls, Forest fans, and the usual suspects who are jealous.
  37. Great post. You should list the things you would like the club to do, you never know they might read it.
  38. Completely agree about the squad needing to knuckle down for the rest of the season. Losing Crowley and dealing with injuries to key players like Ness and Robertson is frustrating, but this team has shown it can rise to the challenge. I’m thrilled Abbott is staying; his energy and work rate in midfield have been crucial. The January signings look promising, particularly Whitaker, who could bring fresh ideas in the middle. A striker would complete the puzzle, though, as we’ve been a bit short on goals at times. Maynard’s taken a lot of stick, but the Accrington win proves he’s still got the dressing room on side. Promotion is within reach if we stay focused and avoid slipping up.
  39. Nice one @allardyces tash I like this blog. My suggestion is don’t read social media, the majority of people on there who voice these ridiculous opinions on the club, manager and players are just Negative Nellies with nothing better to do that spout their negativity to get a reaction. Personally I’d rather read comments on here where the fans are far more level headed and when necessary will give constructive criticism without the knee jerk reactions of social media. Without a doubt the injuries to the squad have hampered our progress but I still hope we can get promotion but if we don’t it won’t be the end of the world, I’ll still support them as I have through much worse times than these in my 60 odd years of being a fan.
  40. i think some fans are just worried we wont get promoted and might return to those years were we was average, but it is frustrating to see people question the desire and hunger of our owners. they deserve better than that, the reedtz are greatly responsible for putting us on the right path. we are signing far better players than we would have under previous regimes. this is a good blog, i found it very funny and i hope people dont take the hump. thanks for writing it @allardyces tash.
  41. I was very disappointed to witness a section of the Notts Supporters booing the team and the modern day experience of seeing the vitriol aimed at the Head Coach and team on social media after the match. Since we were relegated to the National League, supporters, and significantly, the new supporters have seen nothing but success and good performances from the team. Even when we lost in the National League playoffs, it was still regarded by many as a successful season. When we got promoted there was a sense that the success would continue this season and now that it looks like this may not happen, some supporters have become very disappointed. I don't share their disapointment.I believe the team has done ok and to think we are still in the mix for a playoff place with 12 games to go should encourage Notts fans to get behind the team, and I hope that the vast majority will.
  42. Great blog. Let's hope it all goes Notts way.
  43. Solid summary of our Summer signings. With the newly added depth and quality, Notts County should be unstoppable this season. Can't wait for it to kick off!
  44. Thank you, Lewis. This is a wonderful read and I'm honoured that you asked me. I wish you well with your blog, you never know it might take off and you end up doing a full one. You've got my full support! Thanks again, @TheSkipper.
  45. chris puts no end of time and energy into doing something for others, he does not ask for the credit but he most certainly does not get it. very underappreciated by some parts of our fan base. this is a great blog, i really enjoyed it.
  46. Great interview with Chris, for your first blog. I love P of N. Best Notts County page on the net. COYP
  47. These are worrying times, the next week or so will see a major decision being made by the Notts board about who the next manager will be, it will decide the future of our great club, everyone should be worried, there are a lot of long standing fans who are now saying they are close to throwing in the towel. For all our sakes and for the sake of this great club we love Mr. Trew and the board MUST make the right decision. Irrespective I will still support the club I love and have supported for the last 50 odd years but then again I am a glutton for punishment and I have been here and worse before, there is nothing new under the sun.
  48. Pretty much what you've written sums me up too, although I'm only 26. I miss 10 years off from the things you've seen but for me it's about family. It's also about those you know at the Lane and some I've met treat you as family, which is pretty special! Being a Notts supporter is just like any other club, yet we hold onto some good tradition and make sure we keep the feeling about support, family and encourage future generations to be fans also. Some of my friends who support the red team, don't care who there children support. Not bothered about introducing them but for me it's about family at Notts.
  49. I've been watching Notts for over 50 years and like you have seen ups and downs in that time, for me being a Notts supporter is a way of life, a habit I suppose, it's just something that seems to have always been there since I was very young, I can't see me ever not being a Notts supporter. When I am not at the match I am desperately trying to find the latest score on my phone or whatever means I can, I hate the summer when we aren't playing and there isn't much going on at the club.
