  1. Before I explain this, don't get me wrong I like Liam Noble but I think others should remain in place. It just seems unfair that he comes straight back into play, I would personally save him as a substitution but I admit he could be missed as that 'driving force' within our midfield.

Leigh Curtis has put his thoughts up as the general cliche when a player is missed.

In the aftermath of Saturday's defeat to Bristol City, Notts County manager Shaun Derry was predictably asked about his plans for the chaos known as the transfer window.

He said centre forwards were his priority and why wouldn't they be having conceded himself that his team were struggling to find a cutting edge.

But while Internet forums and social media have been rife with rumours about Joe Bloggs moving to Meadow Lane, the best deal of the window has already been concluded.

It won't grab as many headlines as a new signing, but the fact the Football Association's disciplinary department no longer has Liam Noble locked up in manacles is just as important.

This part I think stands out as a good start, yet I could be being picky about the title. Leigh is right about the importance of Noble's return not being overlooked.

The midfielder is free to play against Crewe this weekend after serving a five-game ban and for Derry – to pardon the cliche – it will be like having a new signing at his disposal.

I don't exactly agree that Noble should walk straight back into the squad.

Whereas I would probably leave Smith out for this game, mainly for the fact we need legs and people able to get the ball into decent positions (which Smith can offer when he plays well) I just think we have alternative options. I'd also like to see Whitehouse again because I think he looks a moderately useful player.

I also hope this isn't to be the best news within the transfer window as suggested.

  2. Another new member to welcome, hello @Captain Sticky I hope you enjoy being part of our friendly community.

  3. Easy game right? Let's not go there. :P

Crewe Alexandra have put together some decent results which in turn have lifted them up from the dreaded drop zone. Key results include winning those who never lose 'Bristol City' but they have also draw to sides in contention for promotion. In truth they can play some good football, although they do have an inexperienced squad. Some very good players are within their team (albeit unknown/underrated).

Also, if anyone made use of their academy it's them. Several players have made the grade, part of the struggle for them from what I recall being mentioned when I last spoke to the Railwaymen's fans.

We need to use this game to find our feet and get back some consistency, if the squad train hard I see no reason why the loan players cannot offer us something but if we are disjointed in the game I can this being used against us. I would love to write the game off and predict an easy win, yet I think they'll make it extremely difficult for us (either that or we will).

My heart tells me we can win, though my mind says this will either end up 1-1 or 2-2. I'll go with 1-1.

I just hope to see some direct play whereby hard work shines and we see a glimpse that we are together. Chin up, heads high... C'mon YOU PIES!!

  5. Here we go folks, even the highlights look far better than many of the results games. I think you can highlight from the goals who pushed Notts forward yesterday and it was a great team effort.

What's your thoughts on the Pen? Daniels finish? Did Noble deserve to go?

  8. What a beautiful day, we've still got grand kids till tonight, we were going to go swimming but they wanted to go geocaching. So we are going to look for some of their dad's geocaches, it'll get us out in the fresh air and a bit of exercise too.

What have you got in store today?

  10. With a family run firm, over a compulsory purchase order, which would see the club redevelop White Hart Lane.

This article could be read in a way that suggests supporters of the club have already, tried to enforce the move for Archway Sheet Metal Works. The company has, as is reported received bomb threats, and had their premises gutted by a "mystery fire" in November...

  12. I often look at opposition forums after we play teams. What is worrying is that a lot of teams list us as 'one of the worse/the worse team we've seen this season.' Initially, when we were beating teams, it wasn't so much of an issue as we could put it down to bitterness. However, now we are losing (even 4-0), teams are still saying this about us.

It seems to be a common conscientious, we are a poor team.

Shaun Derry says a lot about 'consistency' in the club, however a lot of his signings are for the short term. Far too many are the wrong side of 30, they may not even last another season, beyond that, we are knackered. Discounting those the wrong side of 30, our side looks like this:

    Speiss
    Dumbuya - Hollis - McKenzie - Adams
    Thompson-Noble- Wroe - ???????
    Murray - Bishop/Spencer(if fit)

That's a team that is destined for League 2. McKenzie is pretty much untried, Speiss the same, Hollis isn't earning much praise this season.

We desperately need to sign players of quality, who may be here 2-3 years. At the moment we have stop-gaps, and although they may be good, they won't last. Loan signings are only an answer short term.

  13. Scunthorpe lost both keepers to broken arms in the first half, what are the chances of that??

  18. One of my pet hates when driving on motorways is when large lorries decide to pull out to overtake another lorry thereby reducing the motorway to one lane or non if it's a two lane motorway, then they proceed to take a really long time to complete the overtaking manoeuvre which results in a long tail back of frustrated drivers behind them.

Or worse still after pulling out and trying to overtake for 5 minutes they realise they can't get the speed necessary and have to drop back behind the lorry they were trying to overtake.

If the lorry in front is only doing a few mile an hour slower can't they wait and drop their speed accordingly.

Perhaps @PTID1862 has a view on this, I believe you drive lorries and also cars so you have seen it from both angles are some lorry drivers being inconsiderate or am I just a grumpy old man?

  21. Without cheating!!!!

There are four current football league clubs never to have played at Wembley, how many of them can you name?

  22. I enjoyed going last year, it was my first time to one (at least I don't remember another time).

I will be ready to stick up for the pies tonight, even though I will most likely get a ticking off from @cheeky~k8. It's just a bit of banter but I have to do my part ;)

@super_pie and my eldest daughter have already seen it with school, so it will be nice for our youngest especially because she isn't at the stage yet where schools take her group. She loved it as much as me, so it will be nice to relax and have a bit of quality time where we are all laughing.

    Anyone else been recently?

  23. Southgate has signed an extension to his contract to manage the Under 21 side, and apparently this puts him in the box seat to replace Woy...

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/gareth-southgates-new-england-u21-4986691

Does success or not at Under 21 level naturally suggest that you can do it at full international level.

Could he cope with the bigger ego's, what would make him different to any of the previous 15 managers who have tried to emulate the success of Sir Alf Ramsey? Ramsey himself couldn't replicate the win of 66 during the following 8 years.

    What do we think?

  24. There has been alarm about new "stealth" speed cameras. Just how "sneaky" are they, asks Tom de Castella.

It goes by the snappy name Highways Agency Digital Enforcement Camera System 3, or Hadecs 3 for short. The new speed camera system was installed in April 2014 between junctions five and six on the M25 in Kent near Clacket Lane Services. But it only became operational on 22 October. By 15 January - less than three months later - 1,513 people had been caught. One of the biggest complaints is that they are painted grey rather than yellow.

The Daily Mail warned: "Watch out, new stealth cameras on motorways." It noted that the high tech camera system will soon be expanded to other motorways.

Hadecs 3 differs radically from older systems. It can cover all the lanes of a motorway carriageway from a single camera mounted on the grass verge or a gantry. If the vehicle is breaking the speed limit the camera takes two photographs of the registration number.

It differs from the average speed system that has been deployed at roadworks or accident blackspots for several years. That system requires a pair of cameras to catch the car entering and leaving a controlled zone. And before Hadecs 3, motorway cameras could only monitor one lane of motorway at a time.

    The answer
    • The new cameras are grey and situated on the motorway verge so may be hard to see
    • But there are signs warning drivers of speed cameras ahead

Critics of the new system say that unlike the yellow boxed speed cameras of old, its grey colour makes it hard to spot - "stealthy" even.

The Highways Agency rejects this. It may be grey. But so was predecessor Hadecs 2 - in operation on the M25 near Heathrow. And Hadecs 3 is accompanied by signs warning motorists of speed cameras ahead.

The M25 in Kent has been chosen because it is part of the government's Smart Motorways policy - where the hard shoulder is opened up at times of peak demand and variable speed limits enforced. The new cameras will soon be rolled out to other Smart Motorway sections - the M1 (in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire), M6 (around Birmingham) and a stretch of the M3.

A lot of people have been caught in a short space of time. Of the 1,513 drivers logged by the new cameras, 781 had exceeded a speed limit of 70mph, according to Kent Police. The other 732 had broken a limit of either 40, 50 or 60mph. The Highways Agency says the people caught are a small proportion of the "hundreds of thousands of motorists [who] use this stretch of the M25 every day". But without knowing how many motorists were caught by the old camera systems on a similar stretch of motorway, it's hard to say whether more drivers are being caught by Hadecs 3.
