  1. My vote would go to Roy Carroll, he showed how committed he is when he flew back from an International to play for Notts. What a man!

He's put in some fantastic performances since joining us and has saved us numerous times.

So who would be your player of 2014 they don't have to be playing for us now there are probably some strong candidates from last years great escape.

  2. I've just been reading another site where by a fan says;

"Everyone seems to be sucking up to him, but he basically is leaving because he wouldnt be first pick anymore, but he would have done them the favour of signing up for a few more million quid had they asked in the summer, when he thought he would still get to play whenever he wanted."

Supposedly he has a ego, although I can relate to the real reasons he's leaving or at least it's how I see it. You may feel differently?

He's leaving because he knows his best playing days are behind him, he retired from international duty when he still is one of our better players to focus on his league career. This suggest to me at the stage of the decision Steven realized something was different, that he's past his peak and that he wanted to prolong his career with the team he supports.

Nothing remotely selfish about that and I see no signs of a massive 'ego' which the title suggested.

Steven Gerrard is Liverpool FC, for me he is still worth his place in what is a very poor team considering the amount of money they have spent and the way they play.

I can relate to him not wanting fans to see him as 'past it' and I think it's an incredible sign of respect to not be selfish by joining another English club where he is settled, which probably would offer more than LA Galaxy (I'm specifically speaking money) and by refusing to play against them. This isn't solely because he wants to be remembered as a 'legend' and a 'great player' but because I guess it would hurt him.

What do you think about the Gerrard retirement saga? I am really curious! Do you think he's being selfish? #debate

  3. Supposedly occurring to "Mike McCarthy" on Twitter and the ThisisNottingham website, Wolves striker Jake Cassidy is still on our managers radar. He wrote "Notts County manager Shaun Derry confirms interest in bringing Jake Cassidy back to Meadow Lane. Says McLaughlin & Laing deals difficult."

It doesn't do anymore than state the obvious really, getting McLaughlin and Laing back would always be difficult.

Forest are going to need to balance their squad and I can see Laing making his way into their side on rotation due to their transfer embargo, whereas Pearce seems to support McLaughlin so they're very unlikely.

Would you take Jake Cassidy back?

  4.  Heysel Stadium Disaster. A Day that Shook the World.

On, 29 May 1985, before the European Cup final between Juventus and Liverpool 39 Juve fans died and many more were injured as a result of an attack by Liverpool hooligans.

This year will be the 30th anniversary of this largely forgotten horror.

I for one would like to do something to mark the occasion, and show the world that we do remember and that English football has moved on from that darkest of days.

It may seem a long way off, but it will take time to arrange a fitting tribute, so let me have your thoughts.

    Should we do something

If so do it as Notts or invite all league clubs

    what can we do

  5. 6. Shaun Derry eager to introduce young talent into his Notts County side

Shaun Derry wants more of Notts County's young talent to make his starting line-up this season after Colby Bishop's successful breakthrough into the first-team squad.

The Magpies boss is keeping a close eye on the pool of players in the club's academy to see if any can make the grade.

Derry has shown he is not afraid to give youth a chance, having given striker Bishop his debut against MK Dons on Boxing Day.

  7. I know many will say that their ideal striker is someone who can score 15-20 goals per season. These players don't grow on trees and often they have to be developed, nurtured and often patience is required.

For me the idea striker is one that can partner multiple players.

I'd settle for a player who can score 8-10 but can also assist and create play. The traditional striker is somewhat a thing of the past and we will be unlikely to find a striker who's got pace and can bang goals in for fun. If we did manage to find this player, it wouldn't be long before they left us in my opinion.

Realistically which players out their are your ideal signing as a striker?

I'm not sure if I can name someone, ideally myself I'd prefer them to be within the age range of 20-24 years of age. I'm not sure Notts could sign a lad called "Rory Turner" but in my ideal world we could. I'll have a think of others!

  8. I have noticed that there is a feature for ex players. Would it be possible to expand it into a 'Hall of fame' whereby former staff could be remembered for their contribution to the club. The members could all have a vote on who to add on a yearly basis and possibly have no more than 2 new recruits every year? There would have to be strict rules such as a certain number of games played or so many seasons involved with the club off the pitch. (Jack Wheeler as physio for example) Just an idea.

Shaun Derry targets two players as board backs signings.

"I am very satisfied with what I want to do. The board has given me their full backing and these conversations started two or three weeks ago. Whoever comes in has to be better than what we already have otherwise it defeats the object."

If we can tinker around with the loan players we have, then we wouldn't need many 'fresh' faces and perhaps two could do. I would like to see a defensive midfielder signed, most we have are offensive and only Alan Smith or perhaps Hayden Mullins but a striker and DM would be my preference.

We could loan a winger, right back provided the funds permit.

I'd give Cassidy the chance to return to Wolves, he does try but I think we could find better.

    Thoughts?

  10. His goal scoring record isn't bad within League 1/2. He is rumoured to be exiting his loan spell with AFC Wimbledon, with Portsmouth, Bristol Rovers and Luton Town supposedly interested.

I can't see Bournemouth wanting him or avoiding putting him back on the loan market.

A few years back his name kept cropping up with us, would you take him on?

  11. Like it says...

    IT IS SNOWING WOO HOO!

    A real Xmas at last.

  12. Please join me in wishing 4everapie a very happy birthday.Have a good one.

  13. @Blackville and I are going tonight. He's not been to Pride Park before.

I can remember going to this game in 1975 with a Leeds supporting friend, standing in the pop side.  Two very good, but dirty teams, lots of fights, sendings off, great goals, diving (Charlie George, Peter Lorimer, Francis Lee - nothing's new in this game), dreadful pitch, over-full ground, dreadful paper programme, great atmosphere. All in all - proper football!!

  14. Bradford City are one of them teams I strongly dislike, I'll openly admit that. It could be their fans or something else, I don't know but I just do. For this reason I want Notts to crush them and their glory supporting fans (they're a big club don't you know).

I do respect them, what they achieved in the League Cup was special and how they made it to the Premiership ALL THOSE YEARS ago.

Also I liked Neil Redfearn as a player, so back then they had a few which I did but I've never really liked the club.

It's another tough game, one which Jones and Thompson will have to be wanting to win against surely? I see us being able to beat them provided we stick at what we do and attack them, chances will come but my only concern is surrounding the backlash of missing good chances. I'd dream of 5-0 (never going to happen), I'll take 1-0 to us.

    Thoughts?

  16. I always check lifeline to see if I have won, today I looked and saw the name Hateley against a £50 win, my heart skipped a beat until I realised that is not my real name.

I think my alter ego is starting to take over, I was in the supermarket car park the other day and someone shouted "Tony" and I looked round. :joker:

  17. Well here we are, the end of another year. Our year has been mixed with some highs and some very low points but we look forward to a new year full of hope that it will be a good one.

Tonight we won't be going anywhere to celebrate but will prepare a nice meal and at midnight we will probably be in bed reading but we will have a glass of wine to toast the new year.

What's your year been like? If you are celebrating what will you be doing? Whatever you do stay safe and have a good one.

  18. Crystal Palace have sacked Neil Warnock this morning, I bet Shaun is glad he didn't join him there.

  19. Today was superb from the fans I see on match day, I love the banter and laugh (it really cheers me up).

    You Pies!

  20. Welcome @johnboy, I'm pleased to see you have arrived on here mate.

I thought I might have known by 'JohnBoy' which fan it was, however I was wrong. Yet that said, I'm pleased. Thanks for joining us John, would you tell the community a little about yourself buddy? Hope to see you on from time to time.

    Merry Christmas!

  21. Hello and welcome to @jonnyt.I hope you enjoy your time with us.

  22. I'll start with Borussia.

Bundesliga: Currently 4th - in the "Champions League" play-off spot. Settle for that of even 5th or 6th at the end of the season. However, the commitments of the German Cup (away to Kickers Offenbach in the 1/8th final) and the Europa League (Sevilla in the 1/16th final) may prove too much for the club's squad. Gladbach have a lot less money than the other current top 5 clubs, as well as some lower down, e.g. Dortmund and Hoffenheim. Good management and good coaching can only take you so far these days. The defence got very creaky without Martin Stranzl towards Christmas.

That said, a great first half, home crowds averaging 50 000, still selling out every away game in Germany and Europe (e.g. over 10 000 went to Zurich on a Thursday night in October).

Whilst the title race is just about over, FCB go to Wolfsburg on the opening day of the 'Ruckrunde', the interest is at the bottom with 5 'Traditionsvereine' (Traditional Clubs) in the bottom 6 and the Goat-worshippers not far above, HSV have huge money problems and Stuttgart are badly run behind the scenes, but I expect Doofmund to escape.

  23. And no I don't mean the o especially on Tony H's boat!

It's still manic out there. Even in places like Pets at Home this afternoon where I decided to treat the must to new extendable lead, there are people pushing and shoving all over the place. Car parks are full.

Come on people. Give it a rest now so I can get back to my little shopping trips, not major bloody events.
