Another sad football story.A player who didn't quite live up to his early promise.I wish him well though.

Despite his injuries, Mason Bennett has performed admirably. His ability to continue playing at the League One level speaks volumes about his innate talent, a feat most players wouldn’t have been able to achieve. I hope he and Burton can orchestrate a turnaround, as there’s no denying he’s a striker of high quality.

i totally forgot about him, but it is good to see hes still playing league football. he has to have something about him if he can continue despite all his injury issues. it might have impacted his game time and career somewhat, but if he has a love of football just playing professional considering everything seems a good reward.

  2. Morning all, is anyone doing anything exciting this weekend? I guess some will be travelling to Salford tonight.

We spent the night in a hotel in Newbury and this morning we are travelling to Southampton to catch the Isle of Wight ferry where we are staying for a 10 day holiday.

Let us know what you are up to or have been up to this weekend (assuming it’s legal of course). :joker:

i drove to salford on friday with @CliftonMagpie, meeting up with @TheSkipper at the ground. it was another decent away day, but i felt packed in, in their stands and i wished i could have had a seat about half way into the game. having worked earlier in the day, it was a bit too much to stand for 90 minutes but the result was worth it.

saturday i went out playing pokemon go for a bit, before going for a drink with my dad and uncle.

sunday, i helped my mum do her weekly shopping and then had sunday dinner with mum, my aunt and my other uncle.

I also went to Salford, along with @Magic magpie, @super_pie and @Callum234.

Considering how long Salford City has been owned by the former United players, I couldn't believe how non-league their ground was. It was just terrible. Nuneaton and several other clubs have such a nicer stadium.

The flooring was one of the worst things about the ground; it was just a metal shed.

Yet I wondered what would happen if something bad would happen, and there is only one area to each part where you can walk freely without meeting a bar that would force you to bend under to get out of the stand. Seriously, it seemed a poor design. I hope to god no fans to the size of ours that have the misfortune to need to exit quickly without being crushed.

      Saturday, I rested.

Sunday, I went to Kate's Nanna's 90th birthday. Unfortunately, one of her friends had a heart attack and died before making it to her party. She wasn't aware, but knew she had gone to the hospital. I couldn't help but feel it was very obvious, as I am sure someone would have said they were fine otherwise without hiding it. It made the occasion feel a bit saddening for her. It was nice to see her with all the great grandchildren mind.

Honestly, I don't remember him or much about any individual at Salford.

When they couldn't play football, they tried to bring on every tall player they had, which seemed very non-league. I'll try to see if there are any extended highlights as I keep meaning to join in with my own recommendations. I was surprised by how poor Salford were though.

From the list I'd like us to look at Conor Keeley, Josh Honohan and Ben McCormack.

Two players that aren't on the list and I'm not sure about their contract situation are Derry City pair Cameron McJannet and Ben Doherty. We tried to get their manager before we went for Luke Williams and with us having bids rejected for Keeley, I wouldn't be surprised if we looked into the League of Ireland.

Sam Curtis is another with potential but I think he'll go higher

    3. TheSkipper

      TheSkipper

Conor Keeley could be a good signing, if he's willing to talk to Notts once his contract is up or if other fans are right, that he will be heading to Walsall. Whatever the outcome, I don't think Notts needs to worry or become obsessed with trying.

There will be plenty of targets, with a handful potentially playing in the Irish league.

    4. liampie

      liampie

its good that we can pick up players on free who give us more quality and depth, but i can see notts signing a couple for a fee once the transfer window opens up. nothing wrong with looking at the irish or scottish league tho.

  3. My old mate @super_ram will be interested in this.

I’m on holiday here in Isle of Wight where there is a Garlic farm that sells everything garlic related including Garlic Beer, being a beet lover I just had to try it and asked the girl selling it about it, apparently it’s made with black garlic which is very mild. I must admit the garlic is very subtle and it’s a pleasant drink.

  4. Recently, whilst watching YouTube a lot of old comedy shows and comedians have been appearing in my video list. One of which is Tommy Cooper. I don't watch a lot of comedians these days; I just don't find them as funny.

There are a lot of good comedians out there, but they are completely different.

Peter Kay is one of the few who reminds me of the classic style, as these days it seems more about quick wit, sarcasm, irony, deepen, black and dark humour, controversial one-liners etc.

I used to enjoy watching Jack Dee and I think Russell Howard is one of the best currently. I just miss the family style entertainer, I suppose. The UK used to have many who could be silly, bring laughter but in a way that was wholesome.

    1. liampie

      liampie

i used to love watching the comedy panel shows but they have become very repetitive and usually quite mean spirited, i get the harmless poking of fun at each other but some can go too far just for a laugh.

i also like watching russell howard, i think he pokes fun of things in a humorous and down to earth way.

tommy cooper was a very funny act, a bit like ken dodd. so many greats from those days.

I've posted about this, as did JJ many years ago, but we kept getting comments from other clubs fans - so, Joe decided it wasn't worth doing because it's extremely difficult to validate. I know Stoke City fans believe they were the first, along with Preston.

We'll take it though, as I do recall reading a paper clipping in my grandfather's scrap book about Notts being the first to pay for a player and how it was not sportsmanlike behaviour.

it was a superb header, from a very good cross which could not have been any better. the ground angle does catch the quickness in which we moved into position to create the chance. also, macaulay langstaffs effort which almost went in. it was very unlucky!

I wished for once, the UK would make a real effort to clean up our lakes, countryside, rivers etc.

Learn to spend money investing in infrastructure, instead of big pally contracts to aid those who donate to political parties. The UK should be great, but we are not. More effort could go into creating jobs, instead of bailing out the rich who are going bankrupt just to save their own dough. The environment, cost of living and making the UK a great place to live needs to happen sooner rather than later.

It's ironic how those who come over here for the benefits quickly call the UK, despite being put up in hotels, having money to buy food, clothes etc.

Yet they just complain because they feel things should be handed to them.

The UK seems to have its priorities misplaced.

  7. We’re eight games into the season and our team is sitting in a commendable 2nd place, just behind Gillingham. It’s been a promising start, and with each game, it’s clear to see how the squad is growing and gelling together. However, we must keep in mind that Swindon Town still has a game in hand. If they win, we could potentially move down to third place. But let’s not forget - it’s still early days.

The season is long and there are plenty of games left to play. Despite this, I can’t help but feel optimistic about our chances this season. The team seems stronger and more cohesive with every match. It’s exciting to think about what the rest of the season might hold for us.

How do you feel about our start to the season? Are you as hopeful as I am about our prospects?

It is indeed early days, no one can deny that we have started amazingly well, however there is a long way to go and lots of things can happen to affect our progress. If we can keep our key players fit and keep hold of Langstaff in January there is no reason to believe that we can’t finish high in the league and even gain promotion.

It's awesome to see how we have turned around our opening day defeat, hard work from everyone has got us to this point and whilst I encourage everyone to get behind it. I am mindful of what happens if a couple of results don't go our way. Whatever the case, Notts will be up there I believe come the end of the season.

I am hoping we can maintain a battle for the league title, however, I will take each game as it comes and reflect as we go. It won't stop me getting excited, singing or encouraging our support.

We have had 4 good seasons under the Reedtz brothers, potenially a fifth this campaign if all goes well.

Luke Williams ought to communicate effectively to bring out the best in our players. Rather than merely observing the game’s progression, it would be beneficial to see him actively providing guidance to the players. This could help instil a level of focus that could lead to favourable outcomes. Given the quality of Williams’ squad, there’s no justification for him not to set high expectations for the players in their match against Salford City.

In my opinion, Steven Fletcher is a good acquisition as he will bring some experience to Wrexham and has the capability to assist them. I believe that sometimes seasoned signings like this can aid a club in their return to the Football League.

Wrexham don’t really play young players though @CliftonMagpie apart from Barnett, O’Connor and occasionally Cleworth. I think most of their first team are 28 years old plus, so Fletcher has been brought in to do a job for a season and will replace Dalby.

That’s a valid point. I believe their stronger signings have been the likes of Mullin, Lee, and Palmer. These are impressive signings, which, in my opinion, Fletcher doesn’t quite match. However, I do recognise the experience he brings. I just feel they need to infuse some speed and a touch of youth into their side.

    4. KingMaynard

    1. Chris

Passing is remarkably poor, no effort made by some of the players to even try to retain it. There are two examples in the highlights where a pass had been made but due to the other playing recieving the ball being sluggish, a Wolves player picked it up with so much more urgancy. I also think Sam Slocombe's positioning for the first goal was very poor, but I must note that the sluggish approach even remained visable with our defending. Very poor from Notts.

    2. AmericanPie

The exceptional result of the match was a testament to Nottingham’s vibrant performance, which was palpable through the radio coverage. Our supporters’ enthusiasm was clearly audible, adding to the excitement. The significance of this victory and the clean sheet cannot be understated, boosting our team’s morale despite Gillingham reclaiming the top spot.

Reflecting on the previous season, the thrilling rivalry with Wrexham added an extra layer of anticipation to each match. As we look forward to the new season, we hope to replicate this intense competition with Gillingham, promising another season of nail-biting matches and unforgettable football moments.

    3. MagpieLane

      MagpieLane

This is the approach I would suggest Notts adopt for the majority of their away games, albeit with a slightly less conservative style while still maintaining control of the ball. In midfield, we possess the capability to retain possession and cause frustration for the opposing team. I was thoroughly impressed with Notts' performance, as they showcased some delightful passing sequences throughout the match.

    4. Countyman

      Countyman

Notts began the match with a strong attacking approach, displaying an impressive performance right from the start. Each player executed their role excellently, contributing to the team's overall success. It was particularly satisfying to witness our players emerge victorious in their individual battles, even in the face of Salford's height advantage. Had some of the early passing moves been successfully executed, I believe Salford could have been systematically dismantled and left thoroughly embarrassed.

It is difficult to say definitively that Eusebio was better than Pele or Maradona, as all three players were incredibly talented and successful in their own right.

However, I would argue that Eusebio was better than Pele because of his impressive achievements. Eusebio became the first non-white footballer to win the European Footballer of the Year award in 1965 and the first African-born player to shine in a World Cup.

On the other hand, it is difficult to compare Eusebio with Maradona as they played in different eras and their styles of play were quite different. Maradona was known for his incredible dribbling ability and creativity on the ball, while Eusebio was known for his speed, power, and clinical finishing. What is certain is that all three players left an indelible mark on the game of football and will be remembered as some of the greatest players of all time.

@super_ram: One of the greatest, I think I would put him above Pele, but I would put Messi and Ronaldo above him too.

The latter player has done interviews in the past where he's spoken highly of Eusébio as being one of the players that inspired him with his own journey. Having seen old world cup recap shows with my dad, I know Eusébio was a classy player.

It is anticipated that the exit will be swift, but no one should feel surprised or let down by it. I believe Luke Williams cannot expect the lineup he fielded to produce remarkable results. Players tend to perform better when they have had the opportunity to play together and establish a sense of cohesion. While some welcomed changes were made, they have ultimately weakened the team. Considering the number of fixtures already demanding attention, this particular event does not garner much enthusiasm in terms of attendance either.
