Yeah, I'm relatively happy with that. I know it was only a pre-season game but we did well against them at their place. Even though they lost Colchester scored 2 against them, I'd say we are more than capable of doing the same (scoring, not losing!) If the team performs well there's no reason we can't provide a minor upset and get through to the third round.

It’ll be a good test for Notts, if we get through who knows who we might face in the third round.

Considering we played them in the pre-season, it will be a good test to see how we have improved with more completive football and the newcomers having settled in properly.

I'm very pleased with the draw.

Thank you @piethagoram that brings back memories of the great man. 1971 was before I met my lovely wife and at 19 years of age I was footloose and fancy free, I used to go to every game home or away sometimes in a friends battered old van and sometimes on the train, a whole bunch from my work place used to travel, so I would have been at that match, those were really happy days and what a season that was we stormed the fourth division as champions and Big Tone scored 23 goals. Happy days.

I can't help but notice how much more professional and physically fit the referees in this clip appear to be. Why is this the thought that I am taking away from it? 😂

    1. Dripsey3

      Dripsey3

I think Notts will bring in 2 players to replace Matty Palmer. A loan and a free agent. It will take a free agent some time to get match fit and used to the system. A loan player can fill that gap until then.

    2. Chris

      Chris

Well, we now have Dan Gosling and I think the club will be looking at extending his stay come January.

I don't personally see us adding another midfielder if Gosling does the trick, unless he leaves for a club higher up when his short term deal expires. The interesting thing is that it's a 2-month deal, it's almost like we have said - we'll give you football now, and we can discuss long-term wages in January. Here's something just to get you back into playing regularly.

The Irish league has sort of become a buzzword since we were linked with Conor Keeley.

    1. Chris

      Chris

I could pronounce his name correctly from the age of six, I suppose I may have had it easier with the likes of Savo Milosevic at Aston Villa. 😂

It's a funny clip though, in the words of Roy Walker.... Say what you see.

I suppose there were fewer foreign names for commentators to deal with then. Having said that, I think he just misspoke and the chaos then unfolded.

      Good save though!

Boca were very frustrating and poor to watch; they wasted so much time with repeated and predictable decisions. The complete opposite to "trying to walk the ball into the net".

John Kennedy will be off to a Spanish or Italian club I suspect, at just 21-years-old he has the world right now at his feet.

PSG could also be tempted to try and lure him.

He reminded me of the appearance (less the hair) of Genaro Snijders.

The loss of Matt Palmer is a big blow, but I believe we have players waiting in the wings who can cover and allow the club to reflect on the situation come January. Even without the injuries we have, every spell is going to be tough and its for everyone to make things work. I don't focus or pay attention to rumours, even if they do come with the best of intentions. This being shown to be true, doesn't mean much but people should remember that the information will come from third parties.

    3. MagpieLane

      MagpieLane

The absence of Matt Palmer will be keenly felt, which is why we could have benefited from someone like Frank Vincent or Regan Booty. We need capable individuals who can step in and provide adequate cover. I’m confident that someone else will rise to the occasion, so I’m not overly concerned. I hope that Palmer will make a strong comeback, unaffected by his injuries.

    4. KingMaynard

      KingMaynard

The setback is manageable, we possess the necessary depth and our players have demonstrated their ability to adapt to different roles. I don’t believe Matt Palmer is replaceable, he’s crucial and it seems wasteful to sign a substitute unless we can acquire someone equally adaptable. If feasible, this would be the ideal solution. Otherwise, perhaps Ollie Tiptop could take on the role if no other senior player can step in. We don’t need to worry just yet.

I am pleased Notts secured the victory, I love the FA Cup and all it's tradition.

In the National League my preference was just focusing on the league, but now a Football League club I feel it's far more important we take it serious. We have the squad to continue to do well and secure an automatic position. Even, if the worst happens, we won't be relegated and I think the playoffs is the lowest we can end up. I don't know how we played exactly against Crawley Town, I didn't go to the game but I have read many comments.

Most seem to be delighted and eavger to see us continue as we are.

I would have Tiernan in as our #1, after Stone's performance yesterday

He didn’t cover himself with glory did he? I thought he looked very nervous and his kicking was awful, people critics Slocombe for his kicking but Stone was terrible.

    3. Dripsey3

      Dripsey3

I was at the Derry City game the Friday before. Tiernan did very well. He could do nothing about the goal. It was a world class strike. He hadn't much to do against Shamrock Rovers. They had won the league the previous week and fielded a second string side. Cork City are in the relegation final next Friday night. Lose and they are relegated. Tiernan will definitely start in goal.

    4. Benji

      Benji

Tiernan Brooks isn’t quite prepared to be the regular first choice yet, but he could be in due course. Fans may criticise him for minor errors, which are normal for a goalkeeper his age. Just as people find fault with Sam Slocombe, who is perfectly adequate at this level. As for Aidan Stone, he appears to be a promising prospect but needs to maintain a clear and focused mindset on the game. I don’t overly criticise goalkeepers, simply because they have the toughest job on the field.

It doesn't sound good, if he's had to sell shares to pay this bill - what's future payments not resorting to needing further assets sold? I don't know, it does seem like he might not have the cash flow to keep the club secure no matter how good his intentions are.

Good luck to them, they're doing well despite this.

I’m not sure what the rules are about fielding first team players but if I was Luke Williams I’d put out a team of fringe/youth players, this is a game we could really do without, I know Williams says he wants to win every match but I would gladly see us lose this one.

  9. Did anyone else watch this match tonight? It was on a Welsh language channel, a really good game between two good teams and Wrexham won 2-1. The commentary was in Welsh so I couldn’t understand them apart from players names, they also mentioned Notts a few times, I’d love to know what they said,

  10. It’s weekend again, they come round very quick or is that just me? Today we’ll be heading home after our family holiday in Northumberland, it’s been a rather wet week to say the least nevertheless we’ve hade a good time.

Tomorrow I’ll be at the match to see if Notts can beat Creepy Crawley and give me bragging rights over my brother who lives in Crawley.

Sunday we’ll see what the weather is like before making plans.

  11. Look at that team sheet! I can’t remember whether I was there or not but I probably was.

    1. DangerousSausage

      DangerousSausage

I noticed those during our recent away match there. I hate the things as they're designed to draw your attention away from the match, and are much more effective at it than normal boards.

However, it'll probably just be a matter of time before they're a requirement as they are in Germany. It would be nice if the powers that be could at least restrict ads with moving graphics, but I'm not holding my breath.

    2. Ohh Tommy Johnson

      Ohh Tommy Johnson

My partner found them terribly distracting, and once the light began to fade (only slightly) the reds and yellows really became dominating and possibly had more of an illuminating effect than the floodlights.  I am sure floodlights aren't meant to be distracting, so these advertising boards shouldn't either.  I really don't like them at all.

    3. Chris

      Chris

They are frequently prone to damage. Kyle Walker recently did this in frustration, by kicking one which caused damage to the screen. There's nothing more annoying than a clicking screen or dead pixels on an advertising board.

If we were a much bigger position, say the Championship I think it would make a lot more sense.

Meadow Lane has a nice bit of space at the side of the pitch, which could see these come into play down the line. However, I do know that the club previously struggled to get companies to take up boards, I am not sure how easier it would be if they were digital. Most likely, we will end up with non-local companies and advertisers from the Football League shoved in our faces. Much like the new PA system has those annoying commercials which show on the scoreboard and deafen you in the stands.

  12. On Saturday Notts are at home to Crawley in the first round of the FA Cup, how many links can we find between the two clubs?

My offering is Enzio Boldwijn who joined Notts from Crawley in 2018 and made 112 appearances scoring 19 goals.

  13. There have been significant improvements to the PON themes.

All three options have been updated and enhanced further to ease the navigation of our website. PON provides members and visitors with three theme options.

On desktops, the navigation has been changed to include 'content feeds'.

This change has been made to reflect on helping people to navigate the sites more. It also includes the option to create a steam of your own custom preference. Content Feeds > My Activity Streams > "Create New Stream". There's also Unread, content I started, Content I follow, members I follow and content I posted in.

Our navigation menu may be tweaked further to improve the navigation layout.

In addition to our floating menu at the bottom of our pages, the main navigation also flows down across all three theme versions to give you even better control. With the 'all activities' tab now appearing at the very top of the mobile navigation, it means the dashboard page comes into the footer menu for easy convenience. Whilst this might not be the most exciting news, it is a practical step forward and one which should make life easier when trying to navigate the Pride of Nottingham.

As always, please report any issues that you may experience here.

In addition to our reading up about the site's recent maintenance.

    Thank you,

    Pride of Nottingham team.

The changes are nice, very attractive and useful. I’m a fan of the mobile themes; they’re the best for navigating such a site. I’ve noticed that all EFL sites now have bottom navigation, which seems to be a trend, but PON’s is by far the best implemented.

It’s all top-notch work, and while it might fly under the radar for some, I reckon the changes are spot on. They really make a difference, particularly on mobiles. The smoother the navigation, the better our experience as users. Good job!

    4. Chris

      Chris

I am sorry, since returning from my family break I haven't had much free time.

The last two days, I have worked relentlessly towards further optimisation of the site. Including further theme work, I have managed to make good progress, but this sort of thing is very time-consuming for me. The plus point is that good progress has been made, with the hope of further improvements from working with developers. In the grand scheme of things, this is vital because the better increases the smoother things will be Keep pushing forward.
