I think we can, but we need to be mindful of injuries because this is the biggest thing which impacts our performances. I know some fans enjoy criticising Stuart Maynard again, but he's doing well. Yes, we are defensively stronger now, but I do think compared to last season, we are weaker in the striker department, mostly due to not replacing Macaulay Langstaff. Jatta will get goals, but we can't rely on him to involve himself as other strikers might. We have to present him with a good opportunity or hope it works out.

Notts have made a good start & in their first 10 league matches they have won 5 & lost only 2.
Unfortunately, Notts have played 3 of the top teams but have lost two of them & drawn 1. That is just 1 point from those three matches. Four of their wins came against teams currently in the bottom 6.
Last season, Notts had a poor record against the top 7 sides only gaining 19 points from a possible 60.
This season Notts know that they will need to take more points from these top of the league tussles to either get into the playoffs or better still get automatic promotion.
Notts will be meeting Doncaster & Walsall soon who are in the top 7 presently, & Notts will be hoping for a positive result against those two.
Can Notts reverse this trend of poor results against the top teams in league 2? I think they can but they need to counter the way that teams are playing against them, especially at home, & Notts need to be more unpredictable in the way they play too.
Notts County may have to wait for Doncaster Rovers and Walsall to address recent issue: View

ideally notts will start to pick up results against the top 7, but i think its more an issue with inform teams. league two is proving to be very tight, afc wimbledon might show its more "form" that is the problem rather than the position. then again, it could reveal its the top 7 that we do have problems with. i think they are games where we at least want to be drawing, as this would help when the points turn into a much crucial resource.
I think that January is a big month in the season, where teams strengthen their squad & players leave.
I think that the January transfer window will be a big window for Notts.
We know that Notts certainly need a new specialist striker, & someone with pace on the wings.
Then there's Dan Crowley who has not yet extended his contract. Will Notts sell him in January before his contract ends?
If so Notts will need another attacking midfielder.

Ah, the legendary Tesco Trolley Park stand!
To be fair to them, loads of non-league clubs are acquiring identikit stands that aren't very different to bus stops. As long as it keeps the rain off...
@Piethagoram the buses used with the other club seems like a genius idea compared to this.
Thank God for Derek Pavis and his stand is all I can say.
Virtual hugs to @Fan of Big Toneand all others, who have been affected.
Thank you @Piethagoram talking about suicide should not be a taboo subject, this is happening all the time our support group has new people every month who have been affected by suicide. Talking does save lives.
with the news of cedwyn scott, it has a sobering thought as to what might happen if players are not given the support they need. i remember fans turning on matt tootle for his time off, with some mocking his gambling addition and believing it was not a fair reason behind having time off. i hope nobody takes this attitude to scott because i think its sickening.

I am hoping that most right thinking fans will be sympathetic to Cedwyn and he will get lots of professional help, I’m glad he’s asked for help it’s very important to admit to yourself that things aren’t right and to seek help.
Hi all, back in 2010 I purchased 1 of 100 commemorative bottles of whisky celebrating 100 years at Meadow Lane. It's in the loft for the grandchildren. Has anyone else got one, there were 100. Has anyone opened it? Is it a decent dram? I've done a search online and there's no record out there.

This is an interesting article on football tactics & formations.
The 3-4-2-1 formation is the preferred formation of Notts for the last few years, certainly under Williams & now Maynard.
It is the preferred tactic of Antonio Conte, & Brendon Rodgers when both were in charge of Chelsea & Liverpool respectively.
It is very informative & I can now see why Notts prefer the one centre forward upfront, & why Didzy & Scott are used as "inside forwards" supporting Jatta

at some point we will see someone have success with 442, and more teams will revert back to it. sometimes tactics are not as much about what we think, but more about the quality in the team. some good managers can give good instructions and set their teams up well. i do think most tend to have talk of tactics but really its just staying to the same system they have been working on. tactics for me adapts and changes when needed.
Glasgow has four professional football clubs in the City, the old firm, Celtic & Rangers, then two other clubs, Queen's Park & Partick Thistle.
But there used to be a fifth club that was quite famous founded in 1872. One of the founder members of the Scottish football league, a club that won the Scottish 1st division once, & Scottish Cup twice, & as late as 1961 they finished third in the Scottish 1st division & played in Europe.
Unfortunately the club fell on hard times soon afterwards & due to mismanagement, went bust & were expelled from the Scottish league in 1967. The teams name, Third Lanark AC.
The Club played at Cathkin Park, a ground that regularly saw big crowds in the past. The record attendance was over 51,000 & with large terraces all around,
The Park is still there in ruins now. There is a football pitch still there but on the three sides remaining, the terraces are overgrown & nature has taken over.
The park stands as a sad reminder to what can happen to football clubs no matter how big they were in the past.
There have been several attempts to resurrect the club. A businessman bought the name & to this day, an amateur club in a lower league goes by the name of Third Lanark.
Here follows an interesting video about the club & the ground.
Here's another interesting video about Third Lanark & their ground.
The phoenix club of Third Lanark is still going strong.
i have never heard anything about them, its very interesting. a lot of scotland is natural and the cities seem very grouped. without looking into where teams play, it would be easy to think that rangers and celtic are the only two professional teams in that area.
Looking at his record he's played for 8 different clubs but never played any matches for the ninth club, Forest. He was signed but immediately loaned out.
He's played 62 times for the Korean national team and scored 19 goals.
people like him are only sorry that hes been caught, he should be locked up and put on that certain register.

I’ve definitely got some Notts stuff in my loft I’ll have a root and see if I can find something of interest.
I don’t have anything specific in mind, but my parents might. My father, who’s in his 80s, is a bit of a hoarder. Because of his age, he hasn’t watched Notts since 2015. I’d be amazed to see what’s up there.
all my notts stuff used to be in my room, now i have various things around my home and nothing is in storage. except the shirts i own being in my wardrobe. i will have plenty of time to start saving things for the future mind.

McGoldrick has been playing about 60 minutes until Stuart takes him off in previous games this season.
There's no reason why Jatta & McGoldrick cannot play together for at least 60 minutes.
I think it's better to try & build up a lead rather than bring a player on for the last 15 minutes to try & respond to being behind.
Notts have to be active as well as being reactive. I love the fact that Notts have shown Character & determination to retrieve a losing cause.
The point is, at home we need to build up a lead so the opposition have to come out & attack us for them to retrieve the situation.
When they are forced to come forward, it will leave more space for Notts upfront, & this will help players like Scott & Brown when they come on after 60/65 minutes.
That's why I'd play McGoldrick & Jatta together at the start of a match.
I think they should both start the game against Wimbledon. Jatta leading the line with McGoldrick & Crowley supporting.
I'm sure McGoldrick will be ok for at least 60 minutes, & if he needs to be substituted at that time, Scott could replace him if he is fit, otherwise it will be Brown or Austin.
I’m not averse to Didzy starting, but I honestly think he would be better against a tiring defence, not became he will be fitter, but I think he has that guile and quickness of thought to outsmart defenders whose concentration will be starting to waiver.
I really think that this is the one area we really need to strengthen in January, if we persist with two attacking midfielders behind a lone striker. My personal preference would be for a 5212 formation, but we really need another pacey forward for this. Either way, we’ll need to dip into the transfer market to get us into the promotion shake up.

Foreign coaches won't go into the lower leagues because they simply won't succeed at that level.
i think even without brexit, scottish teams may struggle to retain their better young talent. a lot of them were poached prior to it, but it might be more likely that premier league teams do look north. we are guilty of overlooking out own home grown talent, suffocating their potential for the belief that you can only find world class players overseas. it all comes down to ability and potential, i believe most really good players have the ability of being class. i think if callum mcgregor had left celtic, he would have reached higher achievements despite him doing well with the club he loves.
personally, i think its better that young foreign players are harder to sign now.
it should be a good thing for england, scotland, wales and northern ireland. as younger players should be getting more of a chance, those outside the uk should reach their potential and most likely would be able to be signed once they are of a better age so i dont see that as an issue.
being able to fill english academies with so many players from other nations, i think is worse. chelsea having been recently spoken about for failing to make world class talent count with jose mourinho. you might say it makes the playing field more fairer for uk based players.
It has been reported that Interim England Coach Lee Carsley doesn't want the England Job. And the Four Main Candidates are now:-
Pep Guardiola
Thomas Tuchel
Graham Potter
and Eddie Howe.
And it seems German Tuchel is into Advanced Talks to take over the role vacated by Gareth Southgate after his resignation after the Three Lions failure to win the 2024 Euro's Final. Really? A German becoming the Head Coach of England's National Side? Please Say It Ain't So, this Surely must be a Joke ? Just Paper Talk? Can you Imagine the Controversy this will Stir Up if Tuchel is Appointed? Or Doesn't the FA Remember the History between the Two Countries. Do they honestly think England Fans will Follow a German Head Coach? Social Media Platforms will Explode and Even the Main Stream Media (you would hope) would Condemn Such an Appointment.
Of the remaining three Candidates. Potter hasn't had Enough Head Coaching Experience. Pep would charge the Earth and Still wouldn't Embrace English Footballing Heritage. So that just leaves Eddie Howe. And he in My Opinion is the Right Man For The Job. Because he as Managed in the Lower League and Performed Miracles at Bournemouth taking them to the Premiership on a Shoe String Players Budget (compared to other Premiership Sides) and kept them in the Top Division for Five Seasons. And I am Convinced he could get the Best out of England Top Players.

Harry Redknapp was asked for his opinion by Sky Sports News on the Tuchel appointment & he gave his opinion.
He like anyone else, is entitled to his opinion, & many thousands of football fans around the Country will agree with him.
As for "jingoism", I don't see it's relevance on this thread. The UK is hardly going to declare hostilities over a football appointment. To be accused of jingoism for expressing an opinion is somewhat bizarre.
But of course, that happens on X all the time
As for any court case, I recall it ended with an acquittal on both counts.
Redknapp is entitled to his opinion @Robbie, but he's always been very cosy with the media. The man's a windbag. Ultimately, being super patriotic in front of the media won't help you when you've got a football team to motivate and organise.
I'm not delighted with the appointment myself. I was hoping that the FA had moved away from their old model of appointing a big-name club manager in the hope of instant success. Gareth Southgate proved that we could be more successful with a coach who had the right attributes for the job, even if that man didn't necessarily have a glittering club career. Instead they've gone down the Capello route again.
There's a caveat here - big-name managers have a big name for a reason. They have proven that they can handle the pressure at the very highest level, in a way that Carsley maybe hasn't. It's just a shame that a country with such a large pool of talented footballers seemingly can't produce a single coach deemed worthy of leading the national team.

The media has asked for Harry's opinion because his opinion is respected & he's popular as a pundit, former manager & player.
As I said before & I repeat it. The pressure of winning the national league is probably much more than winning the PL league.
In fact, it's easier for one of the "big six" managers to win the PL because they are in a league of six, not twenty & they have access to hundreds of millions of pounds sometimes billions of pounds, to buy the most expensive players.
Let's see the likes of Tuchel, & Guardiola get a team like Morecambe, Accrington or Carlisle who are currently at the bottom of league 2, promoted from league 2, with the players they have.
I've said my peace. Now Tuchel has been appointed we have to go with him. But in my opinion he's no better a coach than coaches in our lower leagues.

I thought it was an enjoyable derby, between two very good teams. I don't think Chesterfield can be compared to our style of passing play. Personally, I thought they were a bit more direct, and unafraid to take a chance.
There were times when we tried to pass the ball out from the back, yet Chesterfield marked the defence quite heavily and made the space very compact.
Knocking the ball backwards, and then sideways, to and from each other as Chesterfield tried closing us down just looked uncomfortable at times. I wish we would just try to draw teams out more, as we don't really look to create space but wait for it to open up. I'm not sure if this is always the best way, I mean I get the patient play but if nobody tries to lose their marker then we are playing into how the opposition wants.
It was pleasing to see Dan Crowley try from distant, even though some of his efforts weren't really that good. All he needs is one of those chances to pay off, so I would actually encourage it. Kellan Gordon is very good in the transition going forward, losing his man and putting in balls into the box.
With the likes of Jatta in the middle, this always seems likely to cause trouble and I do rate Gordon with his ability to float in clever crosses.
Jodi Jones can over hit them, but Gordon seems more consistant with putting them in the right area. Both Sam Austin and, in the past, Aaron Nemane have been prone to overhitting their crosses.
Chestefield did look lively, I thought they had done enough to seal the game but thankfully, Jatta managed to make something, and then David McGoldrick converted the saved penalty. It's got that thrill of a Derby day, with a late goal and a point.
i think both teams was not quite the best defensively at times, our goal is poor to concede from the chesterfield point of view but from ours a well worked goal. the opener was a fluky deflection, i dont even think paddy madden knew much about it. of course, he will probably say he flicked it on but it landed very fortunate for him to finish. its a shame alex bass had committed himself but i dont blame him.
either team could have won, but i do think a draw was fair and chesterfield will feel they threw it away which they did.
their fans on facebook are calling us a dirty team, i have seen @Dans pictures and the other photographer, i was at the game and rewatched the highlights. i dont think we were the dirty team, unlike them at times. the amount of times they were grabbing shirts to the point they could have put it on themselves.
It's one of those games nobody should be too critical of, because it's difficult to go into Derby games and achieve the outcome you desire. Both teams did play well. Chesterfield had some luck and the official on their side. We had to make our own, but I wouldn't complain about the game.
We managed to get a point, and there's a good chance we can build some form going forward. Avoiding the defeat, at least to me, feels like a win. I can't imagine Chesterfield fans will be happy with the way they gave the win away. Calamity defending by them for both of our goals, handling the ball so late on.
We've seen it plenty of times in the past, defenders coming on & playing upfront when a forward went off injured in the times when only one substitute was allowed.
We've even seen defenders turned into forwards & vice versa in the past on a permanent basis.
Notts have used Cundy this season as a forward because of his height up front. Stuart Maynard thinks this tactic may be of use to Notts in certain situations.
Notts have quite a lot of tall defenders that Stuart can choose from now that players like McDonald & Ness are fit to play.
What do members think of the idea of putting a Notts defender up front if the circumstances dictate. Do you think it a good tactic that should be explored fully?

Hughes may have played as a defender as a junior. Most youngsters play in different positions until they find the position that suits them best.
I think if a team could have a player that can play as a centre forward one week & then play centre half another, depending on the circumstances, would be utopia for a club.
Well, I believe Dion Dublin, who was a prolific striker for Coventry, also played as a centre back - I believe he ended up playing at Norwich City as a defender. The issue I have with Robbie Cundy playing as a striker, is it shows how we should have hung onto four options or at the very least have a young striker who could have gained some valuable experience.
Jürgen Klopp also made the change, I thought I recalled John Terry having done it, but it seems he was a midfielder.
I have no issue if there's effort, Cundy did try, but I mean we have two strikers since Cedwyn Scott is being played as a midfielder. Remember Harry Kewell thinking he could make players perform out of position, i.e Shaun Brisley.
defenders usually make terrible strikers and visa versa. does anyone remember that callum ball we had on loan? i swear it was mentioned by leigh curtis when we signed him that he had come through the derby academy as a defender.
Who's your Notts man of the match v Chesterfield? 51 members have voted
Here is my player shortlist for Notts man of the match.
Abbott, Gordon, Robertson, Jatta, Platt, Palmer, & Austin.
Abbott had a good game on the right flank for Notts. Got the assist for providing the cross for Jatta
Gordon also provided several crosses from the left flank.
Robertson was his steady self in the middle of the field. He got forward when he could.
Jatta, led the line well once again, he's dangerous with his head, & nearly got clear of the Chesterfield defence on a few occasions.
Platt, Was solid at the back & put in a performance that we are expecting from him.
Palmer, A big influence in the centre of midfield once again, & leads by example.
Austin, Another steady performance by Sam. He always puts in a shift but seems to do his work unnoticed.

It’s great to see the competition in the votes, especially with George Abbott coming out on top. Special mentions to Kellan Gordon and Alassana Jatta, who were strong candidates and deserved votes as well. Well done, George Abbott.
very much deserved, i think its good to see george abbott play so well for us. spurs fans must be delighted to know hes playing such a vital role for us.

Should players have more protection from the officials to prevent players from getting serious injuries?
Stuart Maynard has been complaining about the treatment dished out to his players this season & has asked for more protection.
Jodi Jones is calling for more protection from referees after being ruled out until the new year with a fractured shin.
Of course there has to be a balance in allowing a player to be able to tackle another player legally, but unfortunately, one referee's opinion of a poor tackle is not always anothers.
We know there are laws in place that prohibit tackles from behind, but the law is a bit too vague for my liking.
There is a rule that retrospective rulings can be made, but it's hardly ever used. All of the match officials have to miss an incident or do not see it due to a player being in the way etc.
So what's to be done. Should there be retrospective judgements made if a Ref makes a mistake, or misses a serious incident resulting in injury, & time away from the game?
- Show previous comments 9 more
There has to be a level of common sense. Even after challenges are made, the FA should review what caused the injury and make suspensions to the offending players when it’s been missed by officials. Whilst it wouldn’t help Jodi Jones, it may start to prevent those types of tackles and give more thought to the officials to make a better judgement on them.
I see Now Jodi's been side lined the opposition are after Dan Crowley. Yes something needs to Be Done? But Will It ? Don't Hold Your Breath!!
I see someone up there are not happy with Gillingham for what happened to Jodi.
Gillingham have lost their last three league matches. Long may the run continue.

It's been a wonderful sunny day here today. Right from this morning long periods of sunny weather.
Trouble is it's been cold and temperatures are going to drop again tonight.
I kept a gas heater on last night to keep chill away, first time since early spring.
Good morning it’s a cold start to Sunday.
I hope everyone has recovered from the thrilling local derby yesterday, we watched on the telly even grandson Fred was engaged at one point and actually put his phone down.
We’ve been sorting out our loft and found some documentation that suggests where Mrs. T’s great grandparents are buried, so we are going to have a look round the graveyard to see if we can find their grave this afternoon.
I hope everyone has a great day.
Good morning.

THANKYOU VERY MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING. IT'S VERY MUCH APPRESIATED.

That's A Red Card. For Them Both.
the scenarios you could do with something like this, even if both contestants did not fight or foul each other. it could be very funny! the cross bar challenge is something, but its always pretty safe.
get the third choice keeper to be in the net after an obstacle course and allow fans to take a shot to win a grand prize.
I'd love us to do something like this!
I can remember watching a few games one season, not at Notts, but at half-time a few fans got a chance to win a car. Presumably a local car-dealership was sponsoring them.
Anyway this car would be backed into one corner of the stadium, in between the stands, and the boot would be opened. From the halfway line the fans then had to hit the ball into the boot of the car to win it! Unsurprisingly no-one won it!
